ILM's most thug'd out, blinged down and krunked up posters.

What's really good.

ddb, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

after wiggins posted that jerkin off to r. kelly thing, i kind of some respect for him. or was it gained?

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i think everyone knows who's really putting it the fuck down right now.

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i kind of lost. eek.

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

it's funny because indie rock doesn use slang

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

or maybe: indie-fratboy u.s. "noise rock" "prl" pedantic "oh i didnt really say that" letter not spirit of the law assholes in quasi-racist "wigger" jokes shocker

how does momus' "bon mot" about his "favorite new jew" fit into this?

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Wigger, Wigga - "White Nigger." [Cont] This term denotes someone who is White but acts, dresses, or talks as if they were Black. Popular in Black and White parlance, though "wigga" is the preferred in Black and "wigger" in white parlance.

(As opposed to regular white indie kids who don't really think about what color they are and don't spend every day of their lives fearing that their car will break down in the South Bronx and some "blinged-out" "pimp" will ambush them and pop-quiz them on BDP or whatever.)

this place is getting mad ugly

vahid (vahid), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:11 (twenty-two years ago)

why are most white rappers ugly?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:13 (twenty-two years ago)

trife, i never ever ever used "wigger" as a putdown. believe it or not, i was going after "authenticity"-obsessed dick-wavers who do use that word, and i wasn't doing it in some edgy satirical vice way either. lay off already.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah indie kids have no racial hang-ups whatsoever.

djdee2005, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:18 (twenty-two years ago)

the "regular white" ones I mean.

ddb, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That white girl on blackpeopleloveus.com is hot.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

i still don't really understand how "not worrying" = "racism" and "republicanism" but okay whatever.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:27 (twenty-two years ago)

jody i do like you and im not trying to chump you or anything but i dont really see what making a joke about underground rap has to do with 'obsessively worrying abt what other races think of me' but then i dont see what your racial insensitivity has to do with fighting racism either

$$, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

i mean the colorblind schtick is fine for when the bodyguard comes on tv at your parents house but most ppl are actually offended by it bcz usually it means 'youre my friend so i'll excuse your blackness ok??'

scott seward (scott seward), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Begs2Differ (Begs2Differ), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 20:44 (twenty-two years ago)

jody i read the thread again and i can sort of see what you mean but you have to admit it ws a really weird way to put it

yeah, reading it again i guess i wasn't being too clear there.

what authenticity obsessed dickwavers you were trying to attack??

keep in mind that when i first came to ilm every other thread on new answers was railing against corny indie fuxxx and undie rap, and it's not like either is exempt from criticism (a lot of posts were pretty OTM), but the anti-undie arguments were fairly new to me (not being a particularly avid undie fan myself but wanting to support people's right to enjoy whatever the fuck they enjoy) and i was seeing people really getting off on how hardcore/un-racist they presumed themselves to be. i'm still seeing a lot of that post- P&J, actually. the whole "why isn't EVERYONE writing breathless paeans to crunk? they must be racist if they prefer [white indie band/accessible hip-hop act]" angle that got played.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly when did Trife become untouchable anyway (in the 'you can't make fun of him and any serious criticism is obviously wrong because you're reading him incorrectly' sense rather than the Hindu caste system sense)?

William Wiggins, Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

it would all be much easier if we agreed that society is screwed and someday we'll all be the same color, that is, gray specks of microscopic dust floating in an ever-increasing universe long after the sun has consumed our planet and imploded upon itself, all that was our culture lost, destroyed, and forgotten in an ever expanding universe etc etc.

Gear! (Gear!), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:16 (twenty-two years ago)

ethan (and just about everyone...this includes both me and ned) has a propensity after posting to an internet message board for as long as we have to sort of offer themselves up as kind of ridiculous caricatures of themselves (and it would be wrong to assume sometimes it wasnt totally intentional), but there's no need to start threads about him (or any other poster). what's the point? i found the geir stuff just as annoying/offensive if not moreso (even as i found bits of it very funny, just as i found bits of this thread funny, like nick's "queers" gag.) ethan's a close friend, geir's not. it doesn't matter. it's just more meta-bullshit that starts more in-fighting, when we could at least be in-fighting over stuff that we're supposed to be here for, i.e. MUSIC. and anyway, the idea that i give ethan a free pass on stuff he says is bullshit, since we've been fighting on and off for like two weeks now, are barely talking, and might not even like each other anymore. but i'm sure you loved it when doomie started threads about ned raggett that cum guzzling mbv loving faggot or whatever. it's just bullshit.

Al (sitcom), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess, that was more Calum, but I was amused. In any event, at what point does the caricature become autoresponse? God knows I have my moments, but Ethan sure has his, and the flailing on the 50 Cent thread was just that, obv. Sorry if I don't feel like patting him on the head today.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Even if you don't agree with Ethan that doesn't mean that starting threads belittling him should be okay. I objected to the Geir threads for the same reason.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 10 March 2004 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I started this thread to give props (did I use that right fiddo?) to both $$ & WW, who are both clearly HUGE hip-hop heads, they both posted a lot in the past couple of days/hours and I enjoy BOTH posters threads, I wasn't poking fun at either, contrary to Strongo's opinion...I do like hip-hop (a lot!) and I'm a FULL-BLOWN racist as opposed to quasi-racist!

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

It would make his opinions that much more dismissable.

I don't consider that a problem per se.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

well of course it's not a problem but there are other options aside from white or black, is all I'm saying.

Gear! (Gear!), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm aware of that - those particular variables don't really matter to me. It's whether or not he's white, ie, a member of the "dominator" ethnicity, that interests me.

Dan I., Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ilx sure gets a helluva lotta humor mileage outta de-humanizing them too

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:35 (twenty-two years ago)

well, pathological consistency is not the most human of traits, so it's no mystery as to why people wonder. Actually trife doesn't bother me so much. But, like Geir, it's clear he's got a lot of "baggage".

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

fuck off ilm.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

shakey are you saying that rocks are pathologicially consistent? what about dishwashers?

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Shakey, listen, it's like this: WW and $$ are both interested in hip hop, and they tend to post on hip hop threads. Now, unfortunately, most people can't discuss hip hop without resorting to crypto-racist bullshit. Trife and Wiggins just call them on it, and everyone jumps on them for being touchy.

Dan I., Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even know who WW is, so I could care less. I don't have a problem with Trife either really - it's just that, like Geir, you don't even have to ask him to know what his opinion is gonna be or which side he's gonna take.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:45 (twenty-two years ago)

and yes Jess, rocks and dishwashers are both more consistent in their behaviors than the average human.

Shakey Mo Collier, Thursday, 11 March 2004 01:46 (twenty-two years ago)

though neither is consistent as trife.
