i re-read that siltbreeze thread again today. that was a good thread and it gave me lots of stuff to listen to.

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 22 November 2004 12:13 (twenty years ago)

I bought that fucking Avalanches record too.. thanks ILM! what a piece of shit. I traded it in at a shop on Thayer & bought some more early 80s Depeche Mode..

hahah yeah

latebloomer (latebloomer), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:03 (twenty years ago)

things i blame ilm on: dizzee rascal, the streets, avanlaches, lemon jelly, ms dynamite, sugababes. all fucking terrible and all bought by me.

doomie the saint (jimmy the sainted kid of death), Monday, 22 November 2004 13:40 (twenty years ago)

the second streets album is actually good tho.

ilm has many nice people and stuff, i just have gotten tired of some of the way arguments go over there. it's like caricatures battling caricatures.

and i really could give a fuck about "rockism" and stuff like that either way. critical turf is so moronic. yet that gets people day jobs listening to records... and names in papers... and book deals. desirable? 9 outta 10 [CONTROVERSIAL MODERATOR EDIT] say... "YES!"
m.

msp (msp), Monday, 22 November 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago)

yeah its that whole irony-in-criticism. is it me or does that shit pale and get kind of boring after awhile. '101 REASONS WHY GIRLS ALOUD ARE BETTER THAN ORNETTE COLEMAN'S FREE JAZZ' everyone goes 'holy jesus, did poster x really say that' .... i dunno. *yawn*

i don't get all het up by ilm. our tastes just don't meet that often. and that's cool.

msp (msp), Monday, 22 November 2004 22:52 (twenty years ago)

people keep making jokes on the terry melcher rip thread. he made fuckin' genius records with paul revere & the raiders. he deserves mad respect. those records rocked so fuckin'hard.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Check out "Make It With Me" on Revolution! if you don't believe me. (an album that is basically terry, ry cooder, van dyke parks, and hal blaine) That bass is fuckin' heavy!!! you would have to wait for sabbath to hear a heavier louder bass sound on a major label rock record. It's a monster! man was a prophet and a seer. don't fuck with terry melcher, motherfucker. you see what happned to manson and his crew, right? DON'T FUCK WITH THE MELCH.

scott seward (scott seward), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:21 (twenty years ago)

does carol kaye play bass on that? she did a bunch of the "raiders" (wrecking crew) sessions.

i jumped on that thread to point out melcher's "surf music champion" claim as pretty laughable. that's like weezer claiming "emo rock champions".

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 22 November 2004 23:28 (twenty years ago)

If ILM really was anti-rockist, there would be more showtune love.

I like the Avalanches though, but I bought the album, like, 4 years ago. I like the Divine sample.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 01:56 (twenty years ago)

I like-a da Avalanches and teh Streets and some Dizzee tunes.

but I do not like Springsteen and Dylan and I swear to christ, Big and...arg

Riot Gear! (Gear!), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 02:11 (twenty years ago)

don't stereotype ILM unfairly! Most of them hate Springsteen too. And Big and Rich is kind of meh to most of them I think.

"love for sale" is one of my faves. pretty dang real. noise. (or is that less of a show tune, more of a standard? pat, can i buy a clue?)
m.

When the only sound on the empty street
Is the heavy tread of the heavy feet
That belong to a lonesome cop
I open shop
When the moon so long has been gazing down
On the wayward ways of a wayward town
That a smile becomes a smirk
I go to work

Love for sale
Appetizing young love for sale
Love that's fresh and still unspoiled
Love that's only slightly soiled
Love for sale

Who will buy? Who would like to sample my supply?
Who's prepared to pay the price for a trip to paradise?
Love for sale

Let the poets pipe of love in their childish ways
I know every kind of love better far than they
If you want the thrill of love, I've been through the mill of love
Old love, new love
Every kind but true love

For sale
Appetizing young love for sale
If you want to buy my wares
Follow me and climb the stairs
Love for sale
Love for sale

showtunes are sad ... my girlfriend likes showtunes. maybe a little bit too faggy for the ilm crowd? but when rowetta sang 'somewhere' ... oh, you know my heart was breaking.

yeah, people on ilm do seem similar. i like to think that i'm talking to a multi-faceted machine. makes it more fun. like a thousand dr manhattans all at once.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 23 November 2004 14:19 (twenty years ago)

its this thing you download, and then when you play music on your computer, it adds it to the thing, then makes a page of what you have been playing. if you get in a group with a bunch of people, it makes a radio station, in this case it would be at http://www.lastfm.com/group/ilXor and plays popular things in the joint list, like mort garson, for example

MY BAND ROXX LIKE HOT SHIT R INFLUENCES ARE TRAVIS OASIS LIBERTINES COME AND SIGN ME FUCKERS. etc etc.

i just ... dunno ... i had to laugh because i respected the out-and-out hypocrisy - usually everyone is so sneaky. so it was an ironic laugh. AND DON'T TELL ME THAT CANADIANS DON'T KNOW ABOUT IRONY - OR ELESE I WILL POST THE LRYICS TO IRONIC.

yeah, she knew me from ilx and irl. yeah, that's what i thought as well....

doomie the saint (jimmy the sainted kid of death), Wednesday, 24 November 2004 20:31 (twenty years ago)

but in her defense it wasn't a listen to my demo email. it was 'hey, i'm doing music again - who would hvae realised etc etc.' omg wtf i so didn't care and that was the only time she emailed me like in years. and she got the address from the record company website. so i just thought hahahahah.... i wonder what she wants!
