Stealing, anyone?

I stole last night for the first time ever. I was in the cinema with my gal, watching "Rabbit Proof Fence". We came out of that, and we just went straight into a different screen to see "Bowling For Columbine".

Incredibly boring story, I'll admit, but something of a landmark, as I didn't even steal when I was a wee nipper. Tell me anecdotes about times when you stole stuff. Have you done it recently? Do we have any kleptomaniacs on ILX?

When I was about 14, and really fucked-up (my breakdown wasn't for another year), I stole around £50 of CDs in one sitting from HMV. Got away scott free.

So, a few months later, I went in again, and stole a free packet of mini-Skittles off the cover of off a Playstation magazine. I got caught. Didn't get caught for the £50 of CDs, did get caught for the free packet of mini-Skittles that'd have cost 10p if I'd have bought them anyway. Yeesh.

I don't like skittles.

I went to the cinema once without having planned to see anything and the only one they were showing when we arrived was U-571, so we bought our tickets and went in. it was shit and, halfway through, we were going to leave. walking out of that screen we quickly decided to just walk into another. we chose gladiatior which was just as shit.

I haven't stolen.

In terms of shoplifting, I stole regularly from the age of four (I started with big boxes of Quality Street) until the age of 12, when I was caught taking pornography. Since then, I've only stolen a newspaper from a shop, about four years ago. I have been involved in other kinds of theft, though, but these are undiscussable.

funny to read your story killian, 'cause my ex and i did the same thing a few years back when no one was around to check entrances to the different theatres. we saw 3 movies in one day, for nothing actually, since we just walked in, and well, Walked In!
i felt guilty for a while, but i got over it.
apart from that i stole a 5 cent packet of christmas tags when i was 13, got busted and humiliated and that was the end of my criminal career.

i stole a tiny star shaped mirror when i was 5 but my mother made me take it back and apologise to the shopkeeper. i put it back but didn't apologise. it was still a deterrent for a long time after though. the next time was @ 12 yrs old, when a group of friends all used to go to the movies on a saturday morning. one day they decided to sneak into ace ventura after the movie we'd paid for. i followed them but once i sat down i felt so guilty (or was it just antipathy for the movie?) that i made an excuse and left.
i did it properly recently though - i was late meeting friends to see spiderman and it had already started when i arrived - i asked the usher if i could just go in and see if they were in there. i'd intended to go back out and pay for a ticket but i didn't.
i also take chocolates from work all the time.

i stole a pack of gum once and when my conscience got the better of me, i hatched a plan to buy another pack and then put that one back.

got in trouble once for stealing a sign off a grocery with a bunch of friends. i can't quite remember how that one turned out, although i know we had some kind of hearing before a magistrate or something.

one thing i felt guilty about was suggesting that my friend should steal my neighbor's car stereo. that was pretty lame.

we stole a bunch of lumber once to build a fort under the freeway ramp. the dept of transportation tore it down fairly quick-like.

Wow, you are all very nice law-abiding people. I used to steal books from the book store every time I visited, sometimes putting them in my jacket in an empty corner of the store, sometimes putting the book on the floor and kicking it out of the store. I've stolen a few computer games from, like, k-mart.
A used-CD store I used to work at had this deal where you got a stamp on a card every time you bought a CD, and if you filled up the card you got a free CD. I gave all my friends cards already full of stamps, but I got caught and fired.
When I worked at a sub shop once they left me to run the place myself, so I started making change for the customers out of my own pocket and keeping the money. I really cleaned up that day, and never got caught for it.
Oh! And when I was in middle school my brother and I each stole Tamagotchis (remember those?) successfully.

We used to steal bikes regularly from back gardens, because it was easy, but I was only a kid then and these days I wouldn't dream of stealing.
Funnily enough, last night, I went to use a Cash Dispenser and noticed that there was a £10 note sticking out of it. I ran after the guy who had just used it and gave it him back. (Then I noticed the burk driving down a one-way street the wrong way)

I evade train fares all the time. If I can get away with it, why not? I once stole a seat from a train, like a cushioned seat. Just took it with me when I left, then left it somewhere. Seemed funny at the time.

Stole cigarettes, magazines, donuts, anything else that took my fancy from any shop I've worked in. People don't treat this as stealing, I don't even, but I guess it is really. I think the worst theft I ever did outside of this was last year one day when I ate at Pizza Hut with a friend, the service was terrible (i know i know pizza hut but it was exceptionally bad). So we waited for 10 minutes to pay our bill and then said fuck it lets just leave.

I once saw somebody steal the cushion from a train seat. It was 11:30 in the morning. What the hell is it with you people?
