although nothing funny going on at the mo...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 17 March 2004 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

here's one:

I was deejaying at a college function many years ago, playing a freeform set that was being well received, when some dirty hippie freshman told me that my music was "bumming everyone out". Normally, I would have politely disagreed and sent him on his way, but it a beutiful day, the set was going really well, and I was drunk on whiskey, so I told him "back the fuck off now or I'll slit your fucking throat."
I am not proud of this memory.

There should be cake for all. And I'm making the coffee. No-one except my Zen coffee master makes better coffee than me. You know how good my espresso is? I take a thermos of it to the finest cafes in the land, and drink it openly in front of the bastard faces of the staff, because once you've tasted this black gold, you cannot go back down to that shit. You just can't.
I'll tell you another story about my espresso. When people come round and I give them coffee, they fall into silence. A reverent silence descends. Then one of them might say, 'holy f***, this is some damn fine coffee'. That's how good it is.

I go to the best grinders, I make up my own blend, I SPECIFY the coarseness of the grind, if necessary I get the manager in, especially if I'm getting attitude from the cheese goofer at the counter.

Then, fueled with this mellow, deep, arabica, crowned with a the slightest of lemon astringencies, I come up with the most ridiculous, the most pointless posts, imaginable.

deep dark woods in wyoming, I was 16 and no coffee drinker yet. we were camping, metal coffeepot bubbling over a fire. my mom's boyfriend produced a bottle of Yukon Jack, poured a couple fingers into a couple of cups of coffee, and handed them to me and my brother. we all recited from the bottle: "Yukon Jack is a taste born of hoary nights, when lonely men struggled to keep their fires lit and cabins warm."

My dog loved beer. If we had people over on the deck and glasses were left on the ground he would just help himself. He loved it. He was a Schnauzer. Once we got fed up with him slobbering in our glasses, and put some in his water bowl. About a half bottle, which we (foolishly) judged would be a safe amount. He was most definitely drunk. He stumbled around a bit, fell coming down the deck steps, and then starting doing silly stuff like chasing nothing and then biting the ground and eating grass, which he seemed to really like. Then he puked and passed out. He had a very bad hangover later and was grumpy. Didn't stop him from going for beer again in the future, though. Sounds a lot like me there, actually.

It seems Mr.Joel had some credibility back in the earlier periods, circa THE STRANGER, but it all went horribly south circa the New-Wave-baiting GLASS HOUSES (from whence sprang the cloying "It's Still Rock'n'Roll to Me"). I'd like to respect him, but just cannot,....especialy ever since he insisted on wearing black sunglasses everywhere (for the last ten years) like he was the fifth Ramone or something. Y'see, you start a duplicate thread, and someone posts a link to the original one with four answers from 2001 (and they don't say anything else but the link so you're not sure if they're being helpful or irritated or just sitting back basking in the obsessive compulsive glow), so people go and revive that but by now the newer thread's already gained a few answers and they both just sort of shamble along the new answers page until one of them finally 'wins'.
Oh, the humanity etc

I swear this is true. When I was 12 a large group of girls and I coined the term wigger ,that is we made that word up. I found your site by accident and saw the word.I grew up in virginia beach ,va.I am now 26 and I cant beleive how many times I have heard this term used.I have lived in Virginia,Utah,3 cities in California ,and Missouri.Coast to coast and back. What I want to know is when is the first time you all heard the word wigger and what state?
-- shaylaa (shaylaa7...), April 13th, 2004.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh yeah here is another add on to my previous post.True definition of "wigger" is and was white kids trying to talk dress and act "Ghetto".This term does not apply to any other culture at all.We made it up because of white girls that stacked there hair and wore fila and addidas coats shoes etc.And the boys that are the equivalant to what M&M appears to be like. No offense was meant though. You had the stoners, the skaters, the grungers etc.

"In the English-language InterNet forum "I love books"
over-bid themselves the participants with short summaries of the
world-literary classical authors. The default is simple:
In maximally 25 words the book must be told. The fans of
the constantly growing Minimalisten Anthologie make neither before the
Bible nor newer works like the "Harry Potter" books stop. In
addition, a quantity nonsense develops, partially the thickest tomes
quite appropriate on the point is brought. Over Tolkiens
monumental Hobbit Saga "master of the rings" is called it about:
"small people turned out into large difficulties, during it
stolen decoration loose will want." The most beautiful
contributions often get along with a fraction of the demanded length.
Only three words hand absurd piece of "control rooms on Godot"
for Samuel Becketts: "nothing happens. Twice." "
