How overexcited did you get when you discovered ILE?

Did you A ask lots of daft questions and start/revive threads?

Did you B post once or twice and come back three weeks later?

Did you C tell your mates and meet up here in virtual pub land stylee?

And if you went nuts at first, did you D calm down a bit later?

Or did you E post a few times then leave and not come back? (Admittedly that's a hard category to fill...

(Inspired by, oh I dunno..)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I was totally guarded and underwhlemed. I don't like being the outside who doesn't get the in-jokes, so I was all grumpy and suspicious for a while until my ego made me start imposing my opinions all over the place.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I was category B, and when I came back, I never quite got round to picking a cool alias, so here I am, still, yours sincerely...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind watched for a little bit, but was lucky enough to already have reasonable strong connection with a regular poster here, so yeah, I didn't really feel quite so weird and self-conscious.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

What? Ah, maaaaan. I joined the f#ck in! But I knew half these people anyway AS DID YOU MARK...

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:00 (twenty-two years ago)

(umm, no I didn't. Unless you know me and these people... and I don't even know about it... (now i'm scared.....)

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

F: you didn't discover ILE - you were here from Day 1 in June 2001, when it grew out of the need for an additional general board that complemented ILM.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha sorry I was talking to Barry and went briefly insane!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I already knew lots of people, which made getting a few reactions as if I was a troll from people I didn't a bit disconcerting. But that was mostly Marcello anyway, so...

Mark G, Starry means Barry (markelby).

Liz :x (Liz :x), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I got in an argument with Momus about Squarepusher.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris Brown banged on about it every night for two years before I even looked at it.

I got bored with it but really like I Love Books. I come here in the morning when ILB is slow and I should be working.

Some people on here are far cleverer than I.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, I'm cool (and cooled down) now.

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I lurked for a bit, occassionally posting & it just carried on from there!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

I refused to post for the first few days, then went nuts talking complete bollocks for oh, a few years...

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Kate!

rainy (rainy), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

this is the thread where you link to your first ilx post.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

I want spaaaaaam :)

rzyraf (rzyraf), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't even remember anymore.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

How did you first discover the joys of ILX?

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't even post to (or read) ILE for the first few months of my ILX life; it looked too much like the rest of the internet and I wanted something different. Eventually I succumbed. But I still have a hard time caring what everyone's wearing today.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Shiny tweed and an old fashioned leather diving helmet.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

i wasn't very excited when I discovered ILE, cos I could never remember that greenspunk URL, but since it went on the handy www.ilxor.com address i'd been B i guess.

ken c (ken c), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 12:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I refused to post for the first few days, then went nuts talking complete bollocks for oh, a few years...

Hey, that's me too!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I was around from the start, it didn't seem a big deal either way. I have always tried to limit the amount I post (due to being stupid and boring) but haven't always had success.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:06 (twenty-two years ago)

(Insert 'El Diablo is NOT stupid and boring' post here.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I found ILX when I was googling for orange juice and found a thread w/ the pinefox on and I decided this was not somewhere I should be.

then I came back.

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:12 (twenty-two years ago)

It has been stated here and also proven by science, Ned.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:15 (twenty-two years ago)

The only person who said that was Robin!

Ricardo (RickyT), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahaha Ricardo wins!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I did both A and B 'cause I can't make up my mind ever

Donna Brown (Donna Brown), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I like RJG's post. Or do I?

I didn't really like early ilx.

the ... pinefox, Wednesday, 24 March 2004 14:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Was there a thread on ILM which started the breakaway?

From what I have heard tell of the schism, I think of it like the way the District line came to outgrow the Metropolitan line, even though the District was instigated by the Met. I suspect not many people have considered the similarlities between the formation of ILE and the early underground transport network.

Dave B (daveb), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:14 (twenty-two years ago)

"I love Books" is the Jubilee line of ILX..

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the direction this thread is taking!

So what's the Waterloo and City of ILX, then?

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

"Shouts for the Moderator" board. obv...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:19 (twenty-two years ago)

But the Moderator board is actually useful!

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

And so occasionally is the W&C!

Sarah (starry), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Although I've never taken too long getting off the moderator request board and ended up stuck down the tunnel until it runs again...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Nah, I think of the Moderator board as more like an overground. Probably not the DLR, but more like Silverlink. Quite slow, there's never a moderator around when you need one, but it goes to all sorts of useful places you wouldn't normally think of getting to by tube...

Psycho Kate (kate), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Weirdly I was going to post ILB and the Jubilee Line. Mark beat me to it.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's not weird if its true...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, take two..

The Waterloo and City line of ILX is....

"the Pimf my ryde" threads...

Theres not that many of them, but they are PACKED with people you have never seen before...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

No, it's weird looking at the boards and seeing something written that you are intending to write, then thinking I must have already written it, then thinking my name isn't Mark Grout.

Course it's true, all shiny and new.

x-post

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

More weird is thinking about posting something to a thread, only to find the same comment already posted by yourself, two months ago...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame wormholes

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I was "here" from the beginning, but I remember being suspicious of the upstart board. I don't think I had been on ILM long, and departing from the impersonal and comforting world of music discussions seemed a bit scary.

It also seemed very jokey in a way, suddenly being able to apply search & destroy, classic or dud, etc. threads to things like toothpaste.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

So, ILM is the Bakerloo line, and ILE is the Circle line...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame wormholes

I read that as "I blame wombles".

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:40 (twenty-two years ago)

you're obsessed

chris (chris), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I read Mark's post as I Blame Wormholes, so parity restored.

Mikey G (Mikey G), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:45 (twenty-two years ago)

.. and I read it as "I bum wormholes" so whatever...

mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I lurked for a couple of weeks, then took a deep breath and introduced myself to you all like this :

The ILE bar is now open..............

Blimey, nearly two years ago now!

C J (C J), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 16:19 (twenty-two years ago)

For the first couple of years I was consistently top ten, I've tailed of a bit over the last year or so, as I'm not good enough and don't have much to say.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I sort of gravitated over here from ILM because I like the variety and find people less pompous, posted about whatever I wanted to as I didn't know anyone anyway, still don't really know barely anyone on the board, and tend to go through heavy periods of use interspersed with complete abstention for weeks or months.

webcrack (music=crack), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I still have a hard time caring what everyone's wearing today.

?

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:19 (twenty-two years ago)

except for you, RJG.

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's all about leprechaun hairdos.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Mostly B for me, though Jordan's experience is eerily similar to my own. Lurked during the Greenspun era, gradually delurked on wh3rd.

O.Leee.B. (Leee), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ahh

RJG (RJG), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

b cos i'd already a'd on ilm.

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 24 March 2004 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)
