What happened to that post where you looked up "ebert" on google images and the first thing that popped up was a picture of a stripper with bert and ernie dolls seemingly going down on her?

Hey! Someone posted an article (maybe a Substack?) about how films/TV shows never address jobs and money. There was perhaps a clever way of talking about this - "where's the income?" or something like that. Ok way more clever than that but this was late last year. It was a terrific piece about how TV/films never talk about HOW the characters have the financial wherewithal to do whatever we see them do. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Kevin John Bozelka, Tuesday, 25 March 2025 05:26 (ten months ago)

I think it was related to the show "Friends"?

Is there a "covers you wish existed" thread on ILM? Because I want to go there and say I wish the Beach Boys had covered the Dead's "Cumberland Blues" sometime during the 70s. The harmonies on the original are strugglin'.

Somewhat relevant quote from Robert Hunter:

“The best compliment I ever had on a lyric was from an old guy who'd worked at the Cumberland mine. He said, 'I wonder what the guy who wrote this song would've thought if he'd ever known something like the Grateful Dead was gonna do it.'"

I’ve been trying to find an exchange from many years ago where former ilm gadfly, pipecock, following something stirmonster’s wrote, said something like “no one knows/has every good techno record” and ronan/local garda replied saying something like “he actually might!”

I remember thinking the same thing and now remember it as a funny moment that speaks to stirmonster’s presence here.

budo jeru, Sunday, 3 August 2025 16:29 (six months ago)

ok so that thread has like 5 posts on it, explaining why i might have trouble thinking of a single example of "female-led bands with male vocals"

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 August 2025 16:23 (six months ago)

yeah. you would think there'd be more examples, but it definitely has stumped me

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 August 2025 16:58 (six months ago)

The Cramps maybe?

Kim Kimberly, Wednesday, 6 August 2025 17:12 (six months ago)

i couldn't think of any examples, so i wasn't really expecting an avalanche. women haven't been empowered enough in the music industry to be bandleaders on a wide scale, much less with male vocalists. i can think of a handful jazz/out-music bandleaders who are women but they are mostly instrumental or also the singer so no male vocalist to boast. (Mary Halvorson, Meg Baird, Nicole Mitchell, Olivia Block come to mind)

Piggy Lepton (La Lechera), Wednesday, 6 August 2025 20:22 (six months ago)

is there a thread for smart homes?

There are a few "internet addiction" threads, this one touches on that sort of thing.

Kim Kimberly, Monday, 29 December 2025 20:29 (one month ago)

But a thread originating in 2025 would probably be welcome.
