Anyway. Been a while since I got out to NYC and while I'll be missing Matos's party on the one hand and Stevem's visit on the other, one can't have everything. More to the point, I'm looking forward to seeing all y'all fine folks again!

Tickets bought and will be crashing with the mighty cool Maura and her boyfriend, so really this is all about suggesting meet-ups and meals and whatnot. I'll be arriving way early Friday March 25 and will probably spend most of the day resting up but after that I'm pretty much open through early afternoon the 27th, so rah. Revive this thread as needed as the time comes closer, talk more now, whatever works...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 February 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Ned - Hi from King's Cross, London. Wish you were here!

I may be in NYC on that date...will be in touch.

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 3 February 2005 17:37 (twenty years ago)

Rah! That would be most grand. And speaking of London, my European trip tickets for July should be bought here shortly...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 3 February 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Yee-ha! Let me know dates. Best email is thea.boyanowsky@gmail.com, fyi.

Thea (Thea), Thursday, 3 February 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
revive (with vivarin)!

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

I missed this the first time around. FAPstravaganza.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

25th at Siberia! there's gonna be a good show, and if folx don't wanna rock they can hang out upstairs too.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:27 (twenty years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

is it gonna be really noisy downstairs?

jbr (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

it's gonna be rockish bands, not noize bands. still don't have a headliner tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:34 (twenty years ago)

I could do spoken-word... ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

we already have an open-mic night.

ZING!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

sorry Ned, just joshin'.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

WAH

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

bring your WAH WAH pedal!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 2 March 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Two weeks to go, more or less, so revive. JBR and I were pondering the idea of food at the glorious Taverna Kyklades again, as we had such a killer time there with the 2003 July 4 FAP. Presumably this could be early Saturday night or something, then drinking/roistering afterwards, if Friday will be Siberia stuffage. I'd definitely like to try some other spots to eat I've not been to before, though -- Saturday lunch, Sunday brunch, etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 March 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

oh, i might be in miami for wmc. :(

phil-two (phil-two), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I'll only be around for Friday night. Blame Easter.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:20 (twenty years ago)

i want tapas.

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

i still can't find a good headliner, dammit.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

has anyone been to onju (upscalish veg-friendly restaurant on east 4th)? it looks promising and would obv be a good option for non-carnivorous folx.

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

no but that looks good!

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

i'm up for it. entrees are $20 and under (if the menupages menu is still up to date).

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:38 (twenty years ago)

I would like to attend.

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 10 March 2005 18:48 (twenty years ago)

:-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 March 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

does anyone in this fappin' bitch like robyn hitchcock?

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

Wait, hold on, I can't be in two places at once! But the show is early, yeah? How unfeasible is a dinner-into-Southpaw drink thing and then going to Siberia for more plus tapas? Like when does Robyn have to get off stage?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

my thought was that i'd go to the show and catch up with youse guys at siberia (i'm sure you'll be there well into the wee hours, and if not, i've got my cell).

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

but lemme see what the deal is with this show

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

*merry* Well it'd still be fun to see Hurting's band play at least, if they're on at 7 pm.

(Dinner suggestions for Friday? Also, I need to figure out with Maura and Joe what their thoughts on things are too -- plus my non-ILX friends in the area who want to join in! This is going to be busy but fun. :-))

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

doors open at 7, show starts at 7:30, according to the website.

should we have dinner in the park slope/ft. greene area (where southpaw is)?

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

If there's good eats, why not?

Let me get a hold of a few folks tonight and I will plot and plan further. I admit I'm still feeling a major Taverna Kyklades jones for Saturday. Also, will brunch be a horrifically bad idea on Easter Sunday unless we book ahead right this second?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:04 (twenty years ago)

i'd imagine so.

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:05 (twenty years ago)

Then I ask you, the good peoples, to suggest a better option for Sunday brunch than might otherwise be thought.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

i'm not the expert on brunch, but i was just looking at the menu for this south african restaurant and i noticed that they serve brunch.

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

that south african place is okay (and walking distance from mine and geeta's respective houses), but a little pricey. there are better places on the same strip of dekalb.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, I will be in Munich and some other place nearby during this time. Have fun!

S!monB!rch (Carey), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

tho if it's nice out, you can sit outside and it's just a block from ft. greene park. but it'll prolly still be cold.

looks like i won't even make it to siberia myself until after 11, due to other job.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

what about chez oskar?

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

that place has good food but the service can sometimes be lousy. but that's cool. i also like liquors, and loulou. actually loulou is a great little belgian place, but might not be so good for a crowd. basically, anything's cool with me as long as it's not a table on lafayette. fuck that place.

shit i don't even know if i can go, anyways. my work schedule says "early only" on sunday but no hours!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

chez oskar sounds fine for brunch as long as no one minds service that's a bit... european.

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

yeah that's exactly what i mean.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I leave it all to your tender offices. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

my tender what now?

lychee mello (Jody Beth Rosen), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 18:02 (twenty years ago)

!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Hurrah! I'll come by for drinks wherever.

Jay Vee (Manon_70), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:23 (twenty years ago)

anything's cool with me as long as it's not a table on lafayette. fuck that place

Looks like somebody did. It's closed.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 16 March 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

!awesome! that's the best news i've heard all day. seriously, the people that ran that place were FUCKHEADS.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 17 March 2005 09:17 (twenty years ago)

Cool, I can totally walk to said places in ft greene.

57 7th (calstars), Thursday, 17 March 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

awesome! that's the best news i've heard all day. seriously, the people that ran that place were FUCKHEADS

I've never actually been to it, but a friend was trying to take me there a couple weeks ago, and when we got there the place was boarded up. She was disappointed, but we went to the S. African place instead, which was pretty good.

o. nate (onate), Thursday, 17 March 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

(p.s.: THE game is tonight @ 9:55P. ROOT FOR THE VILLANOVA WILDCATS OMGWTF!!!)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:44 (twenty years ago)

Tonic is open incredibly late and we wouldn't be planning on getting there until relatively later on anyway, I THINK much after you guys would be showing up at Siberia (didn't someone say they'd be there at like 7.30??).

Tom isn't here yet so it throws a spanner in meeting up with anyone any time before like 10ish or 11ish because we have to get his stuff uptown, get our own food, etc which is why I haven't posted on this thread yet, I didn't know until today what time he'd get here!!

Ned if you all don't make it to tonic tonight I believe you have my # so call Saturday--I can't meet up on Sunday due 2 easter so i guess it depends on what you guys have planned for tomoorrow, it seems like you guys already have a pretty militaristic itinerary going!

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

depending on where we get dinner and when we finish we might stop by Siberia for a short period en route to tonic.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

Jeanne said she'd be there at 8, but I don't think anyone else is getting there til around 11ish. I know I'm not, as I'm at work, and everyone else is coming from Park Slope. If you guys are gonna be around Penn Station, why not come by? Or on your way back downtown?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

oh shit i thought everyone was getting there at 8

jorel I'll keep in touch with you, we might stop by either before or after tonic.

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to see people, but I'll be at work all weekend

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

i'll definitely be online until 11ish.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:16 (twenty years ago)

thankfully, the rockies/giants game was pretty uneventful.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

boo hoo I can't make it tonight - I'm on lockdown (baby duty), likely for the whole weekend
have fun everyone - just know that I would like to see you if I could
especially sorry to have to miss Ned, Gareth, Stelfox & Ripley (and any other out of towners)

Paul (scifisoul), Saturday, 26 March 2005 04:06 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, this totally sucked. Southpaw was so crowded I couldn't find anyone, then I got out too late to make it to Siberia. Well, if anyone came, thanks. I'll see if I can make it to one of the other days' activities.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 26 March 2005 06:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I got to Siberia at 12, saw nobody there, went home.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 26 March 2005 06:25 (twenty years ago)

michael, the show was downstairs! i was there! i saw o. nate for a second.

dudes, call me tomorrow. i don't know what i'm up to but at the very least, brunch on sunday.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 26 March 2005 07:07 (twenty years ago)

yeah when we showed at Siberia we didn't see anyone there--was everyone downstairs? :(

Allyzay Subservient 50s-Type (allyzay), Saturday, 26 March 2005 09:48 (twenty years ago)

michael, the show was downstairs! i was there! i saw o. nate for a second.

I went downstairs and some dude accosted me about paying a cover charge and I was I like "I'm not paying a fuckin' cover charge just to see if my friends are here, especially when it's likely they've already left." And then I just scampered out.

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Saturday, 26 March 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Fuck, this totally sucked. Southpaw was so crowded I couldn't find anyone

ned and i were there! we were near the front. we stayed through the first 20 minutes of robyn's set and ducked out around 9:15 to see who we could find at siberia. answer: no one! but a few phone calls later, we did manage to track down maura and joe and hstencil. apparently EVERYONE ELSE was at this tonic thing and had we known this we would have just gone straight there from southpaw. ah well, hopefully i'll see some of you tonight.

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 26 March 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Well, hope you enjoyed the show at least. We had to play pretty quiet because Robyn's fussy road manager insisted on it, so I recommend seeing us when we have a chance to rock out a little more.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 26 March 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Also, I promise the stage banter will be better next time.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 26 March 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

I did rather enjoy Robyn Hitchcock -- much more than I thought I would.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 26 March 2005 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Ack! Okay, so last night didn't QUITE work out as planned in meeting everyone. ;-)

However, today is the day, so -- Ally! I don't have your cell number with me, so plz mail it to me at ned@kuci.org? I will check my mail later today around mid-afternoon as I can. If you have already done so I will call later. :-)

Show was grand, Hurting, credit to ya!

TODAY -- Maura and I were going to grab brunch around here and then after that is record shopping in the company of some friends. To keep things simple -- dinner is still on at 6 pm at Taverna Kyklades in Astoria. Make it as you can! If not, I need numbers so I can contact you for whatever plans follow later in the night. (See, this isn't TOO militaristic.) As I said I will check mail during the afternoon via net cafe to see what's up.

Ned logged out (maura), Saturday, 26 March 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh, BTW, I was VERY tired last night so nobody fret about showing up too late at Siberia or anything, I wouldn't have lasted much longer anyway! I've settled the jet lag so today will be much more coherent. Smiles everyone, smiles!

Ned logged out (maura), Saturday, 26 March 2005 15:57 (twenty years ago)

And Ally, just sent you a cell number I should be able to be reached at by mid-afternoon or so, so we can chat then! :-)

Ned logged out (maura), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

I got impressively drunk at Siberia and then split some time after that. I have the f*ing headache to prove it. Owie. And I played pinball and played aprx 10 Ramones songs on the jukebox. And I kept staring at the door guy because he looked like Gibby from the Butthole Surfers. I had no idea about the Tonic thingie. Sorry to have missed so many of you (Ned!) last night. Ah well. Ow my head ow.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Ha, the Gibby guy! I saw him, he made me think of Steve Hewitt from Placebo. I was mistaken for bar staff last night! God knows why.

Another time, Jeanne -- it was a pity to have missed ya.

Ned logged out (maura), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I'll be in Philly today, but may be around to hang tonight or tomorrow.

Hurting (Hurting), Saturday, 26 March 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

And while I'm thinking of it, tomorrow again will be Chez Oskar for brunch at noon or so. From there I'm probably going to head out to the airport, so if you can swing by if today is out for anyone, please do! More details will be posted as they are.

Ned logged out (maura), Saturday, 26 March 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

michael, the show was downstairs! i was there! i saw o. nate for a second

Sorry I missed you. I just poked my head in for a second, didn't see anyone I recognized and left. It was already getting late by that time, so I figured everyone had gone home or to another bar.

o. nate (onate), Saturday, 26 March 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

No worries, Nate, got your number and will be giving you a call shortly.

Taverna K -- take the N line all the way to its stopping point in Astoria, is about two blocks over, 33 and Ditmars, 33-07 Ditmars. 6 pm still the time of choice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 March 2005 20:59 (twenty years ago)

thankee for the directions, ned! see y'all @/around 6 pm!! yay!!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 26 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

And I kept staring at the door guy because he looked like Gibby from the Butthole Surfers.

OH MAN, hahahaha patrick hates being called gibby.

sorry folx, if i hadn't had to work beforehand, i would've been running the door downstairs instead of the douchebag. he tried to give cause co-motion $12! so i gave them another $30 out of pocket. fucking scummy.

chez oskar, noon tomorrow? we have reservations? lemme know, i'm game.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 26 March 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

Rock to both of yez! Eisbar, I figure you know what I look like, so just look for me. ;-) Stence, yeah my understanding is Chez O., noon tomorrow!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 26 March 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

You fuckers better all be drunk right now, or there's going to be hell to pay.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

Alex is right. Just because we can't be there to "Honor the Pi-er" doesn't mean you should be half-steppin'.

Ken L (Ken L), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:19 (twenty years ago)

Shun the half-stepper!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:56 (twenty years ago)

So wait wait wait....where is everybody going after Taverna Kyklades?

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:57 (twenty years ago)

OH MAN, hahahaha patrick hates being called gibby.

Aww. Well, he's a handsome fella, regarless of who he looks like.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 27 March 2005 01:00 (twenty years ago)

I've just called Mike so all is not sadness. Many drinks were had and Greek beer is a fine thing, as is Czech. :-) Rah to all who showed -- Eisbar, O. Nate, JBR, Nick Graham, who says hi to all, her friend Liz and my friends Eve and Efrem. Yay!

At this point we have a party of six for brunch tomorrow -- Geeta, Hstencil, JBR, Nick, Mike and me -- so if anyone else wants in, please let me know! Plan is still Chez Oskar at noon, though updates will occur as warranted.

And hi to Dee! Great talking to you on the phone!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 27 March 2005 03:09 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, Ned, it was excellent chatting with all of you guys! I'm in eternal gratitude to Nick for setting up that phone conversation. The only drawback I can think of is that I couldn't really hear you guys too well! But JBR explained that you guys were sitting in an "outdoor beergarden next to a bunch of drunken Europeans", so that explains a lot. I hope to get a chance to chat with you guys in person, in a place that isn't as noisy. Hope you guys have an awesome time tomorrow!

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 27 March 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

it was great to meet ned (at last!), nichole, nate, efrem, and eve, and to see jbr again! the food, the beer, and the company was great!!

it was also nice to talk to dee -- it was too loud and cold where we were when we called, so it was kinda pointless to talk too long. but it was still great!!

WHERE WERE YOU ALEX?!? :-)

have a great easter, everyone!!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Sunday, 27 March 2005 03:49 (twenty years ago)

Is it still possible for me to elbow in on the brunch at Chez Oskar? I'd like to at least meet you guys, since Friday's plan fell through.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 27 March 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Well, if it's ok, or if I don't hear otherwise, I'll try to make it. Since no one will know what I look like, I'm wearing a black sweater, jeans, and brown shoes that are in a bad state of disrepair. Also, I'm white and Jewish-looking, and 5'9" and have dark brown hair that's somewhere between Seinfeld and Kramer. And my name is Josh.

Hurting (Hurting), Sunday, 27 March 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

ok, brunch brunch brunch. if you want in, just show up at noon! 211 dekalb ave (at adelphi st), fort greene, brooklyn. near the dekalb ave subway stop (m/n/r/d/q).

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 March 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

we never did confirm the reservation (i wasn't able to reach a live human being there) but if this doesn't pan out there are a zillion other restaurants there we can try.

So wait wait wait....where is everybody going after Taverna Kyklades?

we went to the bohemian hall beer garden! we didn't stay for very long though; we were more interested in talking than doing any serious drinking.

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 March 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

argh, overslept, hungover. damn.

hstencil (hstencil), Sunday, 27 March 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Blossom in Paris (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 27 March 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Am home, everyone rules, sorry I missed many people :-( -- more later, not fully coherent. Rah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 March 2005 03:25 (twenty years ago)

I am sorry I missed American Altitude because my OCD-afflicted friend made us late!!! Especially since Robyn H's set was drawn so heavily from the second, weaker half of his career.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Hey Ned, I'm sorry to have missed you. I thought you might wash up at Tonic on Friday night but I should have realized that you'd get "stuck" at phase 14-a or LK-6 of your plans that night. How was Chez Oskar? I love the food there but they have a whole different definition of "timeliness" when it comes to bringing food, or speaking to you.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 28 March 2005 22:24 (twenty years ago)

sorry we missed so many people. it was all a bit hectic, trying to fit everything in, in what was a bit of a whirlwind visit

tonic was fun, for those that made it down there, finally met fellow englander d.stelfox at last.

saturday got a bit messed up due to my erractic sleep schedule, we went to a good japanese place near hasaki (but not hasaki this time), then hoped to catch up with tracer at misshapes, but it wasnt to be

sunday was the morrissey night at sway, this was just me and mary, and, despite all the tedious morrissey records, it was actually quite nice

charltonlido (gareth), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Gareth loves the interior design at Sway. I didn't realize he was into faux-Moroccan-fetishism--I would have brought him to Fez.

I would have loved to go to Misshapes--but we ate so much at Yokocho and left there at 2 in the morning--I was too filled up on grapefruit shochu and fried squid legs to go anywhere.

Miss you, love you, NYC.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

How was Chez Oskar? I love the food there but they have a whole different definition of "timeliness" when it comes to bringing food, or speaking to you.

quite good. it took us nearly an hour to get our six-top (to be fair, the place was PACKED, and it was easter sunday), but once we sat down we got waited on and served very quickly.
