This is the Thread Where I Say Pt 31: This shit is bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

In just under two weeks, too.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Thirty two!

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Huk, remind me about the hippo one

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

TITTWISers be sayin'!

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Do you guys have Zoodles in the US?

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

I don't think so. What are they?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

They're spaghetti in a can shaped like animals, and when I was a kid they had a great commercial that showed kids eating Zoodles to a zippy little song that ended with:
VO: Tell all your friends, tell the whole bunch
SIX-YEAR-OLD KID: (screaming) I JUST ATE A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR LUNCH!
VO: Zoodles are animal noodles!

Bryan will back me up on this, it was the greatest thing ever. Zoodles themselves...as far as spag-in-a-can goes, not so bad.

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

http://photos1.blogger.com/img/205/943/640/zoodles.jpg

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

So they're like animal spaghettios?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

I'm sure that's *exactly* what they are.

slightly more subdued (kenan), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Despite the fact that eating a monkey for lunch vaguely appeals to me, yuck.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Huk. I needed something to rhyme with oodles/poodles/noodles/doodles, and strudels. Seriously. Don't be surprised, however, if my gf tracks you down and sends you hate mail.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

Don't forget CANOODLES!

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

and kaboodles.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

And you can't have a kaboodle without http://www.ilexikon.com/images/3/31/Kitt_front.jpg

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Do y'all ever have times when you want to say something to someone, but you aren't entirely sure if it would be a good thing or not, so you just don't ever say it, wondering all the while if you should have?

Also, why am I always being bitchy or cryptic lately?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

i definitely have those times. communication with people is so fucking complicated.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

How are you, Jules?

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

worried about some things that are probably out of my control but nonetheless ridiculously fucking frustrating. looking forward to meeting sarah tonight. hating that the a/c in my building is broken right now. not posting much lately because i want to have something positive to say but some of the more prominent things on my mind aren't too positive.

on a break/maybe broken up with my boy at a time when i'm going through a lot of change and thought i'd have his support to help me through, instead of his absence saddening me.

there have been/will be some positive changes too, it's just hard to see them sometimes.

i'm not all negative and bitchy all the time though, i swear. we're probably going to be watching some six feet under tonight, which i totally love.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

My blog, which admittedly I haven't posted to in months, seems to be broken. Which means I can't put comments on other peoples without reregistering.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

One day we shall drink margaritas together. This I promise you.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

margaritas sound fabulous.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Or whatever. We're wild 'n crazy girls, after all.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

http://www.digsmagazine.com/images/hostarticles/margarita.jpg

i got some lemonade yesterday, only it turned out i couldn't drink it because it had nutrasweet in it and for whatever dumb reason i'm allergic to nutrasweet, and it was just staring at me looking all refreshing and stuff.

a margarita would be a good alternative.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Plus nutrasweet tastes like bad.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

Kind thoughts, Julia. Talk to y'all on the morrow. I get to leave now!

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 6 June 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Dolly Parton is my hero.

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

So yeah. I'm really thinking seriously about moving to Chicago this year. I love it, I haven't seen a tenth of it, and... it's time to get out of LA.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Plus, pizza!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:17 (twenty years ago)

Also, all TitTWIS-ers, please list for me your top three books. I need more to read.

Thank you.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

do you care if it's fiction or non-fiction?

teeny (teeny), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:23 (twenty years ago)

Nope. Anything.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

The Killing Joke by Anthony Horowitz. It's not about Batman or Alex in NYC. It's about this guy who walks into a bar...well, and winds up going off in search of the origin of jokes. It's sort of like Carl Hiaassen meets Roald Dahl meets Mel Brooks.

Speaking of Carl Hiaassen, I've just started Skinny Dip which is finally out in paperback. You can't go wrong with Hiaassen. Unless you're Demi Moore.

#3...hmmm...I imagine you would get a kick out of Iain Levison's A Working Stiff's Manifesto.

Huk-L, Monday, 6 June 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

okay I don't read a lot of fiction, a few books that I've enjoyed in the last few years are:

Guns, Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond (he has a new one too but I haven't gotten to it, plus this one's out in paperback = cheap)
Home From Nowhere/The Geography of Nowhere by James Howard Kuntsler
Reefer Madness by Eric Schlosser (although Fast Food Nation is better)
A Vast Conspiracy by Jeffrey Toobin (about Whitewater/Lewinsky)
Subscription to the New Yorker!!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

If you've like Hiaassen, try Colin Bateman (the Irish Hiaassen) or Christopher Brookmyre (the Scottish Hiaassen). If you like lazy comparisons as recommendations, that is (these are not my lazy comparisons, you understand, but I see them both compared to CH and can sort of see why - seriously, Brookmyre is a good read, I would try "Not The End of the World" or "A Big Boy Did It And Ran Away" first).

Sorry, I'm bored and gatecrashing your TITTWIS thread.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

there's no gate!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

i've read three good novels this year:

motherless brooklyn, jonathan lethem
cloud atlas, david mitchell
norwegian wood, haruki murakami

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

I think I've told you about Geography of Nowhere a long time ago, so I second that recommendation.

oops (Oops), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

x-post Yeah, but you are 32 threads in and this is only the second time I've even stuck my nose in (the last time I was being slagged off so I ran away again)

Last book I read that I would recommend to people that I don't know if they'd have read is "The Wrong Boy" by Willy Russell which is about a depressed kid that runs away from home and keeps himself entertained by writing letters to Morrissey.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

It's better than I'm making it sound, I think. The whole book is narrated by his letters to Morrissey. Like Adrian Mole if Adrian Mole worshipped Morrissey, which sounds horrific, and it probably is, but it reminds me of people I knew when I was younger, not me, honestly. Anyway, here is an extract. It's quite sweet.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 6 June 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

The library doesn't have the Wrong Boy or the Killing Joke. The other ones are on my hold list, however. Keep 'em coming.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Also, ailsa, I really like you, so fuck tha hataz.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:23 (twenty years ago)

man i'm pretty bored.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

here's three books:

walker percy, "the moviegoer" - good novel about middle class desperation/boredom in new orleans
ed mcclanahan, "famous people i have known" - memoirs of the 50s/60s/70s in kentucky and california, super funny
michael lews, "moneyball" - decent baseball book about the oakland a's, the bible of the sabermetrics movement

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:36 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa, we don't slag people off on this thread - what on earth did you say??

Luna, do you like fossils? If so, "Wonderful Life" by Stephen Jay Gould. Regardless, "Baudolino" by Umberto Eco is wonderful wonderful wonderful.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Is it easier to get through than In the Name of the Rose? Cause I still haven't finished that.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 6 June 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Yup. It's less dry, more rollicking, less i'm-so-brainy, more fantastical. I loved it, whereas I liked the Name of the Rose but found it heavy going in parts.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 6 June 2005 23:00 (twenty years ago)

oh shit, i just checked my myspace profile to find some books i'd listed there, but then got totally distracted by a message i'd gotten. weird, getting distracted on that site...i never even visit it anymore because, eh. but wait. books.

interpreter of maladies. short stories. jhumpa lahiri's newer novel apparently isn't as good, but i haven't read it. the crimson petal and the white. bel canto. atonement. that's what i tend to recommend as stuff that's really entertaining interesting stuff. it might all be oh so 2 years ago, but i don't read much anymore.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 6 June 2005 23:10 (twenty years ago)

walker percy, "the moviegoer" - good novel about middle class desperation/boredom in new orleans

quite coincidentally, i just went to the library to pick this up! but they didn't have it. all the copies were either checked out or, according to the computer, "missing." :(

so i got a muriel spark novel instead (upon n/a's recommendation).

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:07 (twenty years ago)

nah, not even caitlin. posting to ilx is the go! then again, sitting alone at the bar with at least some refuge in someone you know (just in case)might be ok????

pinxor...they asked me "talk about 2 or 3 of your greatest achievements..." ...like...what? i mentioned having kids. also the main guy (who i had been warned was a psycho) talked more than me!!!!

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Friday, 17 June 2005 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Why do I feel slightly emasculated at the thought of Sgs and Colette dancing together? On the other hand, Sarah, I expect you to start SERVING people, esp. at Poptimism.

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 17 June 2005 09:40 (twenty years ago)

I will have to BRING IT.

sgs (sgs), Friday, 17 June 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

haha, many men would feel something very other than emasculated at the thought of sgs and Colette dancing together! Not me, obviously, but some men.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

but not me, I emphasise. No.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

Eurgh, I'm having one of those days when you feel fat & horrible. Oh & everyone else is prettier, skinnier, smarter etc etc than you! :-(

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

my hair feels icky today. not like straw, but like (cheap) doll hair. it feels very plasticky. hmm. and i need to do it again because i want to keep it blonde till my parents see it, so needs to stay for another month or so, and that means at least one more lot of bleach to do my roots and then my hair will just all fall out. hmm.

sorry you're having an ick day, pink! just think about how tan and lovely you'll be after glasto!

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:01 (twenty years ago)

haha, surely you mean, sunburnt & muddy Colette! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

well, people put mud all over themselves at fancy health spas, don't they?

i just wrote out everything i want to take and it's just too much. plus, deep conditioner or something for my hair. but deep conditioning without washing= extra gross? and it isn't like my hair is better on the 'second day' or whatever, it just is greasy roots and dry and plasticky at the bottom. boo to that.

colette (a2lette), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

i think I'm going to try to wash my hair each day this year's glasto. My hair really needs a cut, but I don't want to risk getting it cut beforehand otherwise I wont be able to put it back into a ponytail.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Good morning. Here's to hoping this Friday doesn't drag.

I feel like dancing. I hope to do quite a bit of it at the wedding reception tomorrow night (jeffpttl's).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Pink, I feel that way nearly every day lately. My rabbit food diet failed quickly and every item of clothing I put on makes me feel like I'm in sausage casing.

dancing lessons, woo-hoo! I want to take some.

yeah I just moved down to austin from Dallas about three months ago. Imiss my old haunts and friends in Dallas. Austin's not the same anymore. A lot of the places I used to hang out at when I first lived there are featured in Slacker yet don't exist anymore. It doesn't feel like my town anymore. (stence, a couple of my friends are in that movie too. wish we could watch it together, I could give you a running commentary of stories).

monday I start a job at the Un1vers1ty of Texas doing computer programming. hopefully I'll start feeling more at home after that.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 17 June 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I got sunburn on my chest and it is itching me like crazy. Suggestions???

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Pop vitamin A capusles and emulsify them with aloe and slather yourself up.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:02 (twenty years ago)

Pink, I feel that way nearly every day lately. My rabbit food diet failed quickly and every item of clothing I put on makes me feel like I'm in sausage casing.
That's exactly how I feel sam & it sucks doesn't it?! Now it's hot here today everyone is wondering about in really skimpy clothes. Is it wrong for me to want to stab them all? :-(
x-post
Jeanne - do you have any aftersun/aloe vera? If not you could try callomine [sp] lotion.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I saw Batman Begins last night, and I'm going on holidays right after work today. This is a wonderful week.

Huk-L, Friday, 17 June 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I have access to ice, tea, coffee, milk and MAC lip gloss.

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:06 (twenty years ago)

Put some ice in a towel & place it on the burnt area. Then drink some coffee or tea, with milk & put some lip gloss on, because you never know when you might meet Miss Right!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

Oh honey, not in this office, I assure you.

Je4nne ƒur¥ (Je4nne Fury), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Haha, well put it on anyway & just be happy in the knowledge that you look fabulous! :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Can I go home now, please?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Yes you can M! Please may I come too?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

What time is it chez Pink? It's 8:30 am here and I have about as much desire to spend the rest of this day at my desk as I do to be beaten with a hammer.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

It's 11:17 here in Chicagoland. I just ate some craisins. yum.

I feel like a Ms. Fatty McFattycakes since my free gym membership ran out. I still do a hell of a lot of walking, so maybe it's just psychological. Also, I had donuts for breakfast. B-But I did ride my bike to work today!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

4 more hours and then NO MORE WORK FOR 5 days!

Huk-L, Friday, 17 June 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm still sick (I have a fever! It's proof!), but am at work because Ernesto needs to leave early today. Again. I'm really beginning to want to kick this guy in the ass.

Also, my broken toes are a lovely shade of black, and some weird something-bulging-out-and-it-really-hurts thing is happening with the instep of my other foot which is probably related to my wearing flip flops every day, but I prefer to think that it's some sort of alien trying to headbutt it's way out.

I am falling apart.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I suggest you cut down a bit on the football, kickboxing and ballet for the next few weeks, Luna. Get well soon.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Luna, which toes?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

The two middle toes on my left foot. Not as bad as end toes, thankfully, but still, when I put shoes on, the bones kind of grind together ever so slightly and I get that 'oh, I could throw up because of this' feeling in the pit of my stomach.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

Poor dear. Hurting your foot always sucks 'cause it makes you less ambulatory. BTW, tell Ernesto that I'm sending him a big kiss made out of concrete and twisted, rusty rebar.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

My lungs hurt. Weird, huh? I mean, all I've been doing today is sitting at my desk. I blame Ernesto.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Gallo?

Huk-L, Friday, 17 June 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

It probably is his fault, Sarah. The bastard.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

So, this coworker came up and whispered that since the owner left, I could try sneaking out early too. This was at around 1pm. So then she left. There were still a handful of other people around, so I decided to stick it out a while longer since I am the receptionist and get paid to do hardly anything as it is.

So, around 2, another coworker comes up and whispers, "Sarah, I'm leaving for the day at 3. You should try to leave then too if no one else is here!" She ended up leaving like 15 minutes later.

Then I'm just waiting for this one guy to leave. And then - doh! - one of the project managers walks in the door with her assistant. So now I have to stay until the bitter end.

I guess it's good though that she didn't catch me, um, not being here.

Whatever.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Well done, Sarah.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

Bastards!

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Is this thread too big now, d'ya think? Should I start another one? If so, what should we call it?

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

damn! well, only 2 hours, sarah.

dvds + pie = content.

i had sweet potato pie the other day. i'd never had it before. holyshitgood.

do you have painkillers, luna?

xp

juliaaa, Friday, 17 June 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Ooh! I want to name it this time! Please!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm debating whether or not I should just finish my work and leave on my little tiny vacation or if I should stay and sweat out a review of my new favourite album (which could add another 45 minutes/1 hr to me being here).

Huk-L, Friday, 17 June 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

sweet tater pie rocks.

god austin sucks. just went for lunch with my friend. took us nearly an hour just to cross town. and it's not the big of a town! fucking traffic everywhere. and it's sooo fucking hot. surely the heat index is over 100. even in her air-conditioned car I felt dehydrated and feverish. ugh. why do I live in TX again?

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

This is so much pressure!

What about Sweet Potato Queens and Hot Young Manly Things?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

how about under more balls than a midget hooker? (sorry heard that on king of the hill last night. funny)

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

I don't know. I do know I like sweet potato pie though. And sweet potato casserole. And just plain sweet potato with butter.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

You tell me which one, and I'll do it.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Fuckit.
Me not being here is marginally more important than the High Dials getting one more swab of good ink. And there's always next week.

Huk-L, Friday, 17 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

(and if it ain't the balls one this time, it will be next time, cause that's fantastic)

luna (luna.c), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Ok! Go with the balls.

Or... Ok! Go with the balls.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

haha

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 17 June 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

This is the Thread Where I Say Pt 33: Under More Balls Than a Midget Hooker
