it looks like you're blessing some food or something.

i'm probably sending a text message!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:11 (twenty-four years ago)

oh, that's what you're saying now...

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:12 (twenty-four years ago)

weird. the "new answers" page isn't refreshing so that the active threads move to the top.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:15 (twenty-four years ago)

also, it is june 27, 2001.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:26 (twenty-four years ago)

huh. it IS 2001! It's my first year out of school! jaymc & i recently broke up. i'm being a jerk to jaymc....oh the memories.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:27 (twenty-four years ago)

Pizza Hut pizza tastes exactly the same, i.e., a lot like the box it comes in.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:29 (twenty-four years ago)

Kelsey, in a week you and me and Colin will go to the Chicago Botanical Garden and then go to Banana Leaf for dinner.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:29 (twenty-four years ago)

awkward times ahoy!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:30 (twenty-four years ago)

We'll talk about Memento. I'll still be bummed that I had to see it by myself, since I'm not yet used to going to see movies by myself.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:30 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't even want to talk about what I was doing this time four years ago. It's too much shame.

Ok, ok. I lived with my mother for five months. Bad times. Bad, bad times.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:33 (twenty-four years ago)

Dan sure is spending a lot of time in Houston, working on his movie. I wonder if he'll ever come back. The house we live in is really moldy. I wish my dad had a job. Ahh, June 2001.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:34 (twenty-four years ago)

i hate this time in my life, looking back on it. i treat jaymc like crap, i get all sucked into cs & don't break things off to have any down time between relationships, which was a mistake. also: cs = mistake in many ways.
i also cut my finger really badly while washing dishes & having a bad conversation with you on the phone. it leaves this giant scar that i figured i deserved.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:36 (twenty-four years ago)

i'm living in boston, and buying too many country music lps. also i just blew off a girl named teresa because she didn't like a godard movie.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:37 (twenty-four years ago)

you didn't treat me like CRAP. we broke up. i needed to get over it.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:38 (twenty-four years ago)

breaking up is hard to do.

Amst: classic.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:38 (twenty-four years ago)

i am making more money than i will probably make in another 15 years.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:39 (twenty-four years ago)

(i mean, i was the one who was kept wanting to linger ... which is why i did dumb things like invite myself to hang out with you and c.)

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:40 (twenty-four years ago)

i spend saturday afternoons taking photos in south boston and eating lunch at the pig & whistle.

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:40 (twenty-four years ago)

("the one who kept wanting")

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:41 (twenty-four years ago)

the whole thing was messy. oh well. glad we're past it now.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:43 (twenty-four years ago)

I have just left what will easily be the worst relationship in my life. We broke up, I moved to the couch, she immediately started bringing other guys in the back door in the middle of the night. I go to the bathroom in the morning, and there's Some Dude in bed with the girl I broke up with 4 days ago. What a terrible person, this girl. No wonder I moved in with my mother.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:43 (twenty-four years ago)

I just got laid off from my fancy pants tech writing job and am telling Jeff via ICQ that I'll be moving in with him in North Carolina. With my cat. In approximately one month, I will wander into a local redneck bar after the first of many living-arrangement-adjustment fights with Jeff and accidentally get a job there, thus starting the three-year series of events that eventually led me to go to law school in Chicago and meet all you people, many of whom celebrated joined us in celebration of our wedding.

June 2001 was a seriously very pivotal time in my life. Kind of weird that the date reset to that particular month.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:45 (twenty-four years ago)

glad we're past it now.

the minute you say this...

Amateur(ist) (Amateur(ist)), Wednesday, 27 June 2001 03:46 (twenty-four years ago)

four years pass...
Orcar Wilde said that our machinery is beautiful. I think he may have meant it as an insult.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Nick's idea to call the threads Chicago 8, Chicago 9, etc, like the albums, is brilliant. My thread title is dumb.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Well, maybe not dumb. Too prosaic by half.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

At least you didn't use Sandburg. That would have been cliche.

There are ILX thongs? Where do I get one? We could just sport our Manowar panties instead. (Note: My website is the third google result for "manowar panties.")

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

the ilx thongs are here

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, when we march, your sword rides with me.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

I just put a rather long, uninteresting description of the factory across the river from my work on TITTWIS. But seriously - you should see it. It's the one next to the Kendall c0llege building on halsted. There are all these huge rusty boxes and conveyer belts and boats involved. Actually, I'm sure you've all seen it.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Halstead btwn Chicago Ave. and Goose Island? I think I know the one. It is a remarkable industrial landscape. The whole area is.

Did you know that Goose Island is a protected industrial zone? Historical, they say. So no converting anything into pricey condos.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Exactly.

That's cool. Right behind my work is the goose island boat yard. Across from that is an old abandoned warehouse building that says "RECORD STORAGE" on it. Obviously, it was for papers, but I like to pretend it was full of vinyl records.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Did you peeps see this? It's confusing to me.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 14:49 (twenty years ago)

ah, fresk thread

"No containers at all"

But what am I gonna put my weed in?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Clothes are a container! Did they ever think about that? Heck, my BODY is a container - of my soul!

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

And yeah, I know! Grant Green and McCoy Tyner would be quite a band by themselves.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

i like how that french guy says "mcCOY tyNER" at the start of some coltrane album -- love supreme live or something?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

I've always liked Mickey Roker, too. He's the underdog of jazz drummers, and he's on my favorite Milt Jackson album:

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm so glad there's somebody else in the world who likes jazz.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I like jazz. I play saxophone!

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

I'm so glad that there's somebody who's not a jazz musician who likes jazz!

xpost, DO YOU SEE?!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:35 (twenty years ago)

You're all too cool.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I AM VERY COOOL.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

I haven't puked in eons, since I was a little kid. I have a pretty strong stomach and also my tolerance is low enough that I never really drink enough to puke from drinking.

I don't care much for jazz, except for Albert Ayler, oddly enough.

I've been doing work today!

I had a little mini-crisis last night about jobs and school and my future and stuff but I mainly put it down to being sick. But I also watched the PBS special on Chicago's own Bob Newhart, which was fun.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Mini-crises suck just as much as big ones, but only in the middle of them.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I pretty much only have mini-crises, fortunately. Except that they're all part of the same MEGA-CRISIS, just spread out intermittently.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

I have been wasting time playing Kingdom of Loathing, and doings earthmounds of work.
I don't like jazz beyond the swing era, which I love. My dad and an old boyfriend tried very hard to get me to like Coltrane and Miles Davis but I just don't like it : ( I think it's the lack of melody. Not to be a Hongro.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:42 (twenty years ago)

I dated a jazz guitarist once, but I've been trying to slowly learn to appreciate it again. Very, very slowly.

You know where I want to explore this weekend? Around Hamlin Park - it always looks so cute when I drive by it (like last night when I was going to visit julia/jbdules).

Question: What are some cool retro/used furniture stores in Chicago that aren't completely overpriced? I have found a couple of awesome lamps and a sideboard at the Arc in my hood, but I really want to find a couple of arm chairs that are in decent shape. Recommend away!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I like jazzy more than I like jazz. By which I mean, I really like jazz flavors in other music. I like jazz, too. I just don't really feel compelled to seek much of it out.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Question 2 : Have any of you been to Brookfield Zoo? Lately? Is it awesome?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Gawd, you're such a HONGRO.

giboyeux (skowly), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

I haven't been to Brookfield Zoo in probably ten years, but it's a good zoo, for sure. I went to LP Zoo after work a couple weeks ago and was kind of disappointed. There's just really not all that much there. Brookfield is huge.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Against all odds and my concepts of using public transit/bike/feet to get around, I bought a car. It's a 1995 Corolla Wagon, one owner, with only 56k miles on it. Now I have a way to cart my drums around and go for pointless drives to places like "the South" whenever I want. I think I'm going to keep with the train/bus ride to work, though. But being able to sleep in that extra half-hour is reallllly tempting.

dan m (OutDatWay), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I've really come to appreciate New Orleans jazz in the last couple years because it stays grounded, there's always a focus on melody and danceability.

Maddie and I took a cat to the vet this morning. We're going to have to give him meds that he hates and pay a lot of money for dentistry, but at least he doesn't have any life-threatening diseases. There was also a swarm of kittens in the office, they were like popcorn.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I like jazz. That is to say, I like hearing jazz. I can't be bothered to learn all that much bullshit trivia, history and such about it, like I have with the rock n' roll. Scorch Trio is the kind of jazz I've listened to lately. Although that might not really be jazz. A friend of mine had a really insightful quote about jazz he used to drag out once in a while, I'll see if I can find it.

dan m (OutDatWay), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I can't be bothered to learn all that much bullshit trivia, history and such about it, like I have with the rock n' roll.

haha Yeah, I understand. Listening to any kind of music gets to be like baseball after a while.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

kittens like popcorn! i love it!

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Me too!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

and sarah, i'm going to have to say that you are the ONLY person to have ever made barfing sound remotely attrative. it *does* sound cute when you talk about it!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

I've been reading about Domino Harvey this morning, after seeing the movie trailers, which are annoying and apart from the weird yellow color pallete look pretty terrible. Like Skinemax directed by Tony Scott.

Anyway, she was apparently a butch dyke, and the movie makes her a sexy hetero. WTF? So so bad.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:19 (twenty years ago)

It sounds cute when I talk about barfing? Grody! That makes me wanna puke!

Do you know what I hate? Being on hold forever and then having to answer a million voice prompts and say YES really loudly. Ugh. I had to call Pe0ple's gas to pay my boss's bill this morning, but they never let me pay it. Now I'm holding with SBC about a phone problem out at a property. It keeps saying "PLEASE CONTINUE TO HOLD" every few seconds.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Also, I inevitably space out and miss a prompt question and then get disconnected.

I know not of Domino Harvey. I will do some research.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

You mean, like, his personal bill, Sarah? Ugh.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:29 (twenty years ago)

I increasingly prefer live jazz over records these days. I'm really looking forward to seeing the jazz group (Sabertooth) who plays after us at the Green Mill next Saturday. Ted Sirota is the drummer and they were kicking ass last time.

I'm not looking forward to the house band who runs the jam after we play on Friday night. The sax player sux and the bass player makes me not want to sit in.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:34 (twenty years ago)

I have to be there Saturday. I will be.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

Awesome. It's the 30th, not the 23rd, lest I cause more confusion.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

poop! i'll be grumpily moving my bf to minneapolis!

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

excuses, excuses.

kels, are you going to see the north atlantic play on friday night? i think i will.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:40 (twenty years ago)

I prefer free jazz.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:42 (twenty years ago)

I just had an interview with the nicest recruiter. He may have just been buttering me up, but he told me that I have a really nice resume and I'm really more talented than I let on. Then he said he has a job that pays 45k a year. I immediately said sign me up.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Archers of Loaf Vs. the Greatest of All Time is rocking my afternoon away. Hooray for guitars that hate each other!

dan m (OutDatWay), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Of course, I still have to interview with the actual company.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

xpost - as for jazz, i like miles, pharoah sanders and albert ayler the best. i do not play jazz, but i also dated a jazz guitarist once. a jazz guitarist named walt.

i just got back from lunch with the coworkers, where we were "saying goodbye" to someone who got a new job. i didn't have much money on me, nor did i want to spend much. so i got a $7 appetizer.

then they told us at the end of the meal that we all had to put in $17, to round it off evenly. i was not aware of this arrangement at the beginning of the meal.

fair?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:48 (twenty years ago)

No. I hate that shit. Like when I was invited to a "Birthday Party" for a friend (of a friend), and it turned out to be an expensive sushi restaurant. And then at the end of the meal, everybody put in a share except for the birthday girl, who of course had gorged herseld on nigiri. Bitch, invite your rich friends out to buy you sushi. Leave me out of it.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

john, this friday? i'm leaving tonight for arkansas . . . .

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

i realize that i'm an upper tier cheapskate, but still. yeah -- at least tell me ahead of time so i eat more than three tiny lettuce-and-chicken thai tacos!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

yeah, kels. so, uh, tomorrow.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

You mean, like, his personal bill, Sarah? Ugh.
Yeah. Actually, he asked someone else in the office to do it and she passed the order down to me.

My boss in VA had me paying his personal bills all the time, even when he was sitting at the desk right next to me. Then he'd get really annoyed if I had to transfer the call to him for say I was authorized to pay his bills.

My boss now, whose bill I was trying to pay earlier, just came up, handed me a $20, and asked me to go to the restaurant next door and get him a sandwhich.

I just think it's kind of funny that these people have so much money to buy STUFF, but they can't be bothered to go through the actual transaction themselves. Personally, I would think spending the money would be part of the fun.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

what's money without the power to push people around?

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 21 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

True.

Anyway, I totally hate the 'Let's all just put in the same amount to make it easy' approach. It's not that hard to figure out who owes what.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 July 2005 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I think it's time for a new thread.
