My other thread's getting a bit confusing so i thought i'd post the revised details here.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

Provided it can be guaranteed to be G****m-free, I would be more than happy to come along to this.

At the first appearance of G****m, however, you will fail to see me for dust.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

oh god they have GM beers now too?

look forward to meeting you leigh!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

You too. It would seem we're going to a gay indie night at the Scala on Friday night. I can't help thinking i'm at least ten years too old and hetrosexual for it.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

G****m:

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 July 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

gay indie night sounds fun! I wonder if they will be playing gay indie anthems all night (and indeed what they'd be!)

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

Kitchens of Distinction, Ken.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:07 (twenty years ago)

"Danny Edwards" by Sexton Ming, maybe.

spontine (cis), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

Franz Ferdinand obv. Plus Suede and the Libertynes.

BARMS, Monday, 25 July 2005 10:34 (twenty years ago)

Hmm, my idea of an indie club is probably pretty out of step with that of a young (gay) londoner. I'll have to restrain myself from striding up to the dj booth and demanding that they play MBV & Spacemen 3.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:55 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, that would only work if I was DJ-ing!

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm stuck somewhere in the early 90s.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 10:58 (twenty years ago)

no i don't think kingmaker or cud would get too many people out on the floor there...

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Thankfully the central belt indie discos were skewed more towards the bellshill sound and american indie than rubbish english stuff in the early 90s. Or perhaps i'm looking back through rose tinted glasses.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:12 (twenty years ago)

good grief, the bellshill sound - whatever became of the bothwell sound, that's what i want to know!

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

Why do Glasgwegians pronounce Bothwell as Boswell, is it one of these quirks like the pronunciation of Milngavie?

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

New one to me; I grew up in Bothwell and never heard anyone pronounce it as Boswell.

Then again, Bothwell does have a castle, a golf club and a Tory councillor.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Indie is only gay in the Cartman usage, surely?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

bah we are having party at our house on saturday. it's meant to start with a bbq at about 4 or 5 and continue until ruin. people are most welcome to drop by pre/post-fap if they like...

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:37 (twenty years ago)

ooh if you are going to popstarz you will have a TOP time! and they let in straight ppl these days, so long as you don't look like a dickhead (identikit ben sherman or whatever) who's gonna cause trouble. drink lots before going out though, the scala's bar prices will empty your pockets doublequick.

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:40 (twenty years ago)

i spent most of the 90s at gay indie nights "mis-shapes" and "popstarz"

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Or take Spesh.

(I had the feeling that you had a party this weekend, Emsk. And yes, you should get those invites out post haste or I shall forget again.)

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh yes, the Scala's bar prices are suck-your-breath-in terrifying.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

I wonder if i've still got any of my indie girl frocks kicking around at the back of the wardrobe.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:46 (twenty years ago)

Re. Graham and FAPS - having heard a fuller account of what happened on Friday it strikes me that it's best for Graham not to come to any more of them. It's the second time he's behaved in a way which - quite apart from the wrongness of attacking people - is likely to get some or all of us kicked out of pubs or banned.

I suspect that at any given FAP there will be several people who would be very happy to tell him, calmly but firmly, that it would be a good idea if he left as soon as he shows his face.

(This goes for club nights too obv, except for those we have an actual security person who can earn his keep in this way.)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

well that's fair enough i think.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Oh no no no. What you do for Popstarz is: get there when it opens so you don't have to pay, then order as many 2 4 1 drinks as you and your friend can carry and then go sit on the balcony and drink, drink, drink. Then you won't need to drink again for the entire evening and you can focus on dance, dance, dancing.

marianna lcl (marianna lcl), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Tom, what's the best address to email you on?

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:50 (twenty years ago)

Kate - freakytrigger at gmail dot com

Tom (Groke), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

My friend's flat is a five minute walk from pentonville road and we're going for a meal at 7, so i guess we'll be going back to the flat after we've eaten to dump my bags and get a carry out of booze.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

yeh you cannot spesh cos the bouncers there are very very very thorough. but dead right you should get there early so you can get in for free. arriving at 10.30 is no use cos they slow the queue right down at about 10 so more ppl have to pay. (does the complex where popstarz used to happen still exist?)

emsk ( emsk), Monday, 25 July 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

My friend informs me that they're operating a strict lesbian and gay door policy at the moment so we'll have to try and look dykey. My problem is that i'm too feminine to appear butch and not girlie enough to appear femme. They're gonna see right through me for the big old hetro that i am!

As far as drinks go I'm not that bothered. I've reached the stage of ambivalence about drinking where I can't remember when I was last drunk cos it was so long ago.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

My friend informs me that they're operating a strict lesbian and gay door policy at the moment

Would be interested to hear/see how this policy is enforced.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

I bet you would.

spontine (cis), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

i think the emphasis must be on 'strict', steve.

N_RQ, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Strict lesbians are the best.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Not sure how you determine whether or not a door is gay though. I mean, I can't see any obvious joke there relating to that.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

where's ken c when you need him?

N_RQ, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

I imagine they will have some kind of gaydar.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:39 (twenty years ago)

at flesh in m'chester back in the day you used to have to snog someone of your own sex as you went in - there was a girl and a guy at the door for this very purpose.

grosvenor lucrece, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

that's fucked up!

N_RQ, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

hello i'm here
http://web.tiscali.it/Until_The_End/images/gruppo/robbie.jpg

so blatently gay.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

What if you already had a partner?

(Also, I have no problem snogging girls, and I'm not a lesbian. I just like snogging.)

Rum, Sodomy and the LAN (kate), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

you're in!

N_RQ, Monday, 25 July 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

I'm so not getting in. Having said that a few lesbians have hit on me before so perhaps i give off erroneous vibes.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 12:54 (twenty years ago)

maybe they didn't want spoken for or respectable monogamous people in there.. it was pretty decadent. pop starz should be ok

grosvenor lucrece, Monday, 25 July 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

I can probably do a perfect rendition of Tory Derek if I was going.

BARMS, Monday, 25 July 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

you've always been more an orlaith to me

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

it's the boob job that does it, i think

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I know I shouldn't even be on this thread - why bother right, if you live in Belgium - but I'm intrigued to know what happened exactly. What provoked him to be violent. I wasn't there so I'm not here to defend one side nor the other. But wouldn't it be right to let him explain his actions... I can't imagine him being violent for a reason (whether that one is wrong/right...) Well, I don't know, it's like putting him on trial without letting him defend himself. Okay, flame me, critique my words, whatever. I'm not here to defend Graham, really not. Or maybe I am a little. He always seemed very shy and quite friendly. But then again you never know. I'm just very surprised... *clicking the submit button against better knowledge*

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

He was hardly provoked to the point where he should just throw wine all over Colette and myself. He made a sour comment, he got told off, he snapped. I don't know the guy, but I'm certainly not interested in ever seeing him again, dig?

it's the boob job that does it, i think
-- ken c (pykachu10...), July 25th, 2005.

I'm still not showing you my titty twister, dude.

BARMS, Monday, 25 July 2005 13:33 (twenty years ago)

I am sorry, I didn't want to say you/Colette provoked him! I was just intrigued to know what happened. In the meantime Graham emailed me saying what happened.

nathalie's body's designed for two (stevie nixed), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I am frankly furious and disgusted with his behaviour but see no need to drag it up, and especially don't see why you are being brought into this. If you are intrigued and want the gossip, please, could you keep it offline, we're all so mentally and emotionally exhausted that I for one cannot DEAL with this.

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Jesus! Sorry to further contribute myself, of course, and to get in the way of Leigh's thread - I hope to be in pub, for one :)

Lucretia My Reflection (Lucretia My Reflection), Monday, 25 July 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Yeah sorry Leigh for disrupting yr thread - I will make it up by buying you a pint on Saturday, I hope.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

No bother. It'll be good to see everyone that i've met already and meet those i haven't.

leigh (leigh), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

i'm more intrigued to find out how the Lex managed NOT to throw wine all over himself!!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

as i witnessed wine glasses being wrassled back and forth with some force

ken c (ken c), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

it's an indie thing

Britain's Jauntiest Shepherd (Alan), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

oh god is this becoming a meme?

I don't recall wrestling with wine! Oh god.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Oi!

There is a perfectly good thread (ish) for last Friday's FAP.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 25 July 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Is it still scorchio in London just now? I always misjudge how warm it's going to be and end up sweltering.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm losing track of FAPs, where is this one?

Dadaismus (Dada), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 12:12 (twenty years ago)

Medium warmth at best. I would suggest consulting a weather forecast nearer the time.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

FAP details at the top of the page.

leigh (leigh), Tuesday, 26 July 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

Are there any internet caffs on or around the bloomsbury end of Tottenham Court Road?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Easy Internet caff, just past the tube station/side entrance to Virgin, next to Boots and Sainsbury's.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

Yep, Easyeverything by TCR station is your best bet.

That said, there are internet caffs all over the place in Bloosmbury, so you might find one closer.

Was there a time for this FAP?

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

didn't the Megastore have an internet cafe in it itself?

koogs (koogs), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

There's at least one very near the Oxford Street end - the Virgin megastore offer the service, and I think there is another a couple of doors north of there on TCR (there used to be, I'm sure, and I think there still is. (xpost)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

We'll probably head along to the pub about 7ish.

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I would love to come but my friend is getting married that day. Have fun kids.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Is that the one you went to the Mormon stag do for?

leigh (leigh), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

Do Mormon stag nights run to several days?

Dadaismus (Dada), Wednesday, 27 July 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

I'll need an early night before tomorrow's trip, i'm knackered.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 28 July 2005 06:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm just leaving work now, will try to check in again tomorrow when i arrive. If not, hope to see you on Saturday.

leigh (leigh), Thursday, 28 July 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

er, i'm worried we have a clash with this: a PARTY this saturday (july 30th), and a DOCTOR WHO MARATHON somewhere in the future

koogs (koogs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

ah, maybe not:

> this earliness is good cos it means if you have stuff to do already that evening you can still make it if you want to - i guess some of you will be fapping

in which case, er, bump, or something.

koogs (koogs), Saturday, 30 July 2005 13:36 (twenty years ago)
