It is time to bring Barbara Bush to justice.

In the light of her recent comments, I think there is only one possibility left. To wit:

Austin Still (Austin, Still), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

She's always been a bitch.

O'so Krispie (Ex Leon), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 00:55 (twenty years ago)

Don't you mean "rhymes with stitch"?

Set her adrift on an ice floe, I'm sure it will work out very well for her.

Happy campers they are, and happy campers they'll always be.

From the link above: "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."

Is this stuff made up? Seriously now.

Sounds good to me. I recommend the venue for the duel be a telephone booth, and the weapon be hand grenades.

shes always been viewed as a sort of mastermind behind the bush clan, this is nothing suprising.

my mom, im sorry to say, adores this woman. once when i was a kid she planned a whole family vacation around going to kennebunkport maine, in hopes of a bush-sighting (no pun intended).

Barbara Bush: Lovable Granny-Type or Bitch-on-Wheels

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 02:32 (twenty years ago)

It's almost like the Bushes are caricatures of the privileged. They are the embodiment of the rich and clueless stereotype. Every time one of them opens their mouth I wonder whether they're being serious or not. If I was writing a satiric piece about a wealthy and powerful family who are completely out-of-touch with reality, Jeb, George (W.), and Barbara would have to be included. I'd also create a character based on Jenna just because I think that would be fun.

A convoy of 30 trucks left the state Tuesday carrying food and emergency supplies for Gulf Coast states battered by Hurricane Katrina in a massive relief effort that Gov. Jeb Bush called "payback time."

Barbara may be a bit cuter (and I'm not convinced of that), but Jenna's straight up trouble. I get the impression that she'd do all the cool, fun, and dirty stuff that nice girls wouldn't. That's why she gets my vote.

One of the great Nixon tape quotes that emerged in recent years was Dick calling Poppy Bush an "empty suit," but then rhapsodizing about what a vindictive harridan Babs was.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

The only defensible thing about Barbara Bush (the elder) is that she's anti-abortion.

I think Jenna and little Barbara look too much like their father in the face and so I could never be attracted to either of them.

One of the great Nixon tape quotes that emerged in recent years was Dick calling Poppy Bush an "empty suit," but then rhapsodizing about what a vindictive harridan Babs was.

My favorite Watergate line about Bush was from Al Haig who said that Bush's reaction after hearing of the "smoking-gun" transcript was that he "broke out into assholes and shit himself to death."

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Tuesday, 6 September 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

Nothing over at NRO world about Barbara's comment. I wonder why. (They were noticeably silent re: Trent Lott's house comment via W. too.)

Barbara Bush re: TV news coverage of the Iraq war:

I watch none. He (former President Bush) sits and listens and I read books, because I know perfectly well that, don't take offense, that 90 percent of what I hear on television is supposition, when we're talking about the news. And he's not, not as understanding of my pettiness about that. But why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?

Its being reported in all the major papers here (though interestingly theyve all left the "slight chuckle" bit out), it would be hilarious if it was a hoax. Somehow I doubt it though.

...McClellan, at the White House briefing, said: "I think she was making a personal observation on some of the comments that people were making that she was running into. ... But what we're focused on is helping these people who are in need."

Asked if Bush agreed with his mother, McClellan said: "I think that the observation is based on someone or some people that were talking to her that were in need of a lot of assistance, people that have gone through a lot of trauma and been through a very difficult and trying time. And all of a sudden, they are now getting great help in the state of Texas from some of the shelters."

Do you know all of those people, the kind of people from which you drifted away almost instantly after the end of high school, the people who never ever had anyone over to their house not because the house was shitty but because they thought everyone would steal their video games or if they did let ONE person over there were all these random but plentiful restrictions on what you could eat and what was 'their parents' stuff even though it was just regular fucking white boy food you can get at any store, people who exaggerated the totally misread affectations of the scenes they didn't belong to (all of them) eg. if someone liked loud rock music they'd whip their hair and throw 'satan horns' (but they'd do it wrong, with fingers for 'devil ears' on the head) or for rap listeners they'd just bring their knees up and straighten their arms ('hip hop walking, "HEH"'), people who disparaged 'drugheads' for four years before they started doing drugs (they still disparage 'drugheads'), people who 'got into stuff' during college, people who think going to a restaurant is 'going out', people who still think it's baffling how someone as effeminate as Prince ever made lots of money - THESE are the people who grew up to be the ones who still don't GET it. They have never had connection to anything or anyone they can't understand or be good at instantly, so while they don't say outright that they don't care about the people suffering from this, make no mistake that deep down they still have no idea how to empathize with different people, because they've never had the urge in the first place. These people know who they are, and they still have no real friends after all these years; just people and situations that help them make sense of everything. Understand these people, and exactly why there are so many of them, and you will understand why inevitably, in about ten years, you might as well fuck it all and move to the interior with a truck full of non-perishable goods.
