"If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me..."

Ah, Chicago. You're so lite.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

So what are these threads all about, then?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

Mainly we talk about what a tool that Huk guy is.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Rock superstars Chicago, of course!

dan m (OutDatWay), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Haha, that's awesome, Kelsey.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

We also discuss whether huk is "handsome," "handsomish" or "not so handsome."

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

I want to move to Chicago. Is that a good idea?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:00 (twenty years ago)

Everybody wants to move to Chicago, because it's a very good idea.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

i'd like to move out, so you can take my spot.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

if i were to judge chicago based on chicago threads, i'd say moving to chicago is a very good idea. but i've never been to chicago, so i can't be sure.

Dave Matthews dumped doody in the river, look.

andy --, Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, Halloween:

Every year in Madison, all the college students and a bunch of other people get dressed and spend the weekend closest to Halloween on State St. It's a giant street party and it can be a lot of fun.

However, a couple of years ago kids started getting stoopid and out of hand, then the police overreacted and there were "RIOTS"! And it's happened pretty much every year since then.

So, if you come up you either have the option of going home before the RIOTS start, finding a quiet(ish) bar off of State St., or looting a liquor store and getting tear-gassed, whatever your mood is at the time.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

Are there lots of opportunites in Chicago for a college drop-out stand-up comedian with 60 wpm?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

YES.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

If you and Maddie go as Zmobies you should get another team together to go as the crew from "Shaun of the Dead" And then you can fight.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Why is that man being so mean to Spongebob? I mean, honestly.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

(Maybe it's because his costume is stupid and lazy.)

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

Maddie actually wants to get a bunch of zobmies together and have ZOMBIE LURCH. Possibly for charity.

Shaun of the Dead is a good idea too, though!

MASS THRILLER DANCE ON STATE STREET

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

http://badgerherald.com/news/2004/11/01/halloween1_dm_400.jpg

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn, my roommates did that like five years ago! It was actually before I moved in with them, so I wasn't there to learn the dance and get made up. I did hold the boom box, though.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

that's awesome.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

I do not want to get tear gassed on Halloween or any other day, thanks all the same. I want to get drunk and hold my own private costume-judging contest in my head, while dressed as perhaps a member of Devo.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:11 (twenty years ago)

I want to learn the thriller dance.

Also, I want to see Shaun of the Dead again.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Everybody wants to move to Chicago, because it's a very good idea.

To tell the truth, I've been thinking about moving to Chitown lately. Today is my last day at this job, I have 6 months severance pay & benefits, my house will be ready to sell by the end of October, I crave (painfully) to live somewhere other than Lexington for once in my damned life, and it's within decent enough driving distance of Louisville that I wouldn't have to fuck up my relationship with my son to do so. But lord only knows what I'm REALLY going to end up doing. We'll see.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

MASS THRILLER DANCE ON STATE STREET

They have done this a few years in a row here. This 19-yr-old kid named Micah got the Michael Jackson part by auditioning SINGING AND DANCING THE ENTIRE VIDEO ROUTINE WITH A DEADLYLY FRIGHTENING PRECISION.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Also on the maybe moving to Chitown: there are people there I have known well enough and long enough that they would A) put me up until I found my own place, and B) start a band with me.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Nickalicious and I could be roommmates!!!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Your arguments to yourself are compelling.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

nick! someone in my office did exactly that!!! she regularly treks back to louisville (& owensboro) to visit. i think she loves it here!

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I believe for Halloween I might like to dress as this guy:

http://jon.happyjoyfun.net/pics_ms/snl/snl80.jpg

And play the spoons.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

so are me, nicklish and huk all moving to chicago? wowzers (well, i am - someday, probably not for a coupla years)

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

i swore to myself last halloween i WOULD be momus this year.. now im not so sure. i'm not skinny enough.

Homosexual II (Homosexual II), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

I saw a guy dressed as Papa Lazaroux (from League of Gentlemen) and I think that wins my top costume prize ever.
I was going to be Adam Ant in Stand and Deliver last year, I think I might do it for real this year.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

I'm still not sure Mandee! I might be getting an amazingly well-paying job here in Lexington that starts in January, if not, well, then teh SKY'S TEH LIMIT!

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

I think Jeff should be Henry Spencer from Eraserhead for Halloween. I've been pushing this for years, but Jeff is kind of anti-dress up so alas. I, on the other hand, live for Halloween.

Guess what I just did, ya'll???? I just drove the car all by myself in Chicago! Jeff wasn't even at home so if I got lost or scared or crashed into a building, I couldn't even call him to come get me! And it was a complete success. I took the vacuum cleaner to the vacuum cleaner repair place, and ate free cheese at Whole Foods and then bought a toothbrush just like Kelsey's. I also bought some recycled plastic razors that are disposable but you're also supposed to be able to replace the blades. I almost got killed by a bimbo in a Lexus SUV then I ran a red light then I parallel parked right in front of our apartment building.

Anyway, YES everybody move to Chicago!

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

I like how one Nick has come to sub for the other today.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

yay for jenny!!!

hope you like that toothbrush! did you get the yellow one too? if we have a sleepover, I'll put a sticker on mine so we don't mix them up.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

I wonder how Nick's brandy consumption is going.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I think it's this flippin' weather, but I am tired & cranky & I don't feel like doing anything except sleeping. I wanna get take out food & watch more episodes of the shield ... in my room. lights off.

i'm so tired i don't even feel like riding my bike home in this windy town.

kelsey (kelstarry), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:13 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... Well, I haven't heard from him in a while... I guess I'll find out when I get home! Any guesses as to what happened? Maybe he fell asleep on the couch.

Tonight I'm going to Barnes & N0ble to get learned.

xpost- I know. And I wore long sleeves Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Today, I decided to go for something practically sleeveless and not bring a jacket. Ta da! It's chilly and windy. Last night, I wore a corduroy skirt to practice from the back of my closet. I decided it was time to pull out the fall duds. Nick wore a long sleeve shirt too that he hasn't worn all summer. Ben was like, "Whaaa?! Did you guys go back to school shopping or something?"

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

I think it's this flippin' weather, but I am tired & cranky & I don't feel like doing anything except sleeping.

But the weather is beautiful! Cool and overcast and mellow. I love weather that makes me feel like doing nothing but sleeping.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I wish Am. was around so he could give me advice on the best silent film involving a flapper. I was thinking of maybe checking out It with Clara Bow, but then saw it's #72 on the best silent movies of all time list. The General is #1 which:
a) I've seen
b) Is great
c) Doesn't have any flappers in it.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I do love this weather - fall weather is the best. But it helps to have my fall gear with me, like my tall socks.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Thursday, 15 September 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

wait, you're telling me that knee-length fishnets are cool right now? with the top showing? you're kidding.

generally i love knee socks too, but i feel like i can't really wear them anymore.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:07 (twenty years ago)

I think of fishnets as a goth thing, not an old-lady thing.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

but they're flesh colored! they're like dancer's tights, but they're knee-high, like trouser socks. trust me, they look truly geriatric.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:14 (twenty years ago)

of course, they're not flesh colored for EVERYONE, but they are for me. anyway, i guess they're not as egregious a fashion infraction as i had thought.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:17 (twenty years ago)

Wait, maybe I am misunderstanding what fishnets are.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

it's just the weave of the stocking, they can be a variety of colors. i had red ones in high school that i wore over purple tights. white over blue tights...etc. all about the tights.

tights. what a weird word.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

So the tights are (Caucasian) flesh-colored, and the fishnets themselves are ... what?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

jeez -- they're like this but they only go to my knee and if my skirt goes the wrong way, you can see the top, which isn't supposed to be visible

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

"Tights" kind of sounds creepy akin to the "panty" discussion from a few weeks ago.

I've been working too hard, I've missed out on a lot. Does anyone want to go drinking this weekend? Friday maybe? I'm feeling a bender coming on.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

Nothing creepy about panties and tights. On gals, anyway.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

It was the word "panty" that was the creepy part. At least for me...

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I guess I prefer good old fashioned "underwear."

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Or perhaps thong th-thong thong-thong.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

panty panty panty
skivvies
u-trou

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

i think u-trou is my mom's word of choice.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:43 (twenty years ago)

"Panty" just has some weird mental images associated with it for me. Like gross sick fat dudes buying little girls' underwear in veding machines in Japan.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

veding=vending

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

You mean the panties that your mother laid out for you?

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

Wait, what's that from?

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Amanda -- I think those probably look fine, apart from potential top-visibility.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

Sumo wrestlers need love too.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

No I mean the stains on the panties my mother laid out from me.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

do guys actually prefer thongs?!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

NO

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

I've been making bad jokes (well, they're funny to me) while waiting for an especially large file to distill, and that was one of them. So was the panty stain one.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

the stain was hilarious. slightly gross, but funny.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Dear automated telemarketers, Please stop dialing my work number. In the end, my human soul with conquer your heartless robot antics.

Everyone think GOOD THOUGHTS, because you-know-who's review is in T minus 10 minutes.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

Oooh, I luuurve fishnets, at least as much as I like any form of stockings. Soon it will be fall/winter and I will have to switch from bare legs.

Laurel (Laurel), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

A thong is like makeup -- sometimes it reads as "trying too hard to be sexy" and sometimes it works.

Fishnets would seem like they could read as "trying to hard" but they never do because they're lovely.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

what about garter belts, then?

GO NICK!!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

i like fishnets, so long as they're not the full-body kind you can buy at stripper-shoe stores. have you ever seen those things? they have them in spider-web print too. my word, those are SKANKY.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:54 (twenty years ago)

Fishnets are discussed quite a bit on the FALL FASHION ILX thread, which means they are hip.

A thong is like makeup -- sometimes it reads as "trying too hard to be sexy" and sometimes it works.
So, is the goal to:
a) look like you were born with a thong or
b) where just enough of a thong that it looks like you aren't wearing one at all..?

ha ha, I know what you're talking about, Amanda.
Kelsey, according to ME, garter belts are also in, but I don't have any, alas.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

I picked one up this past weekend and it took me a while to remember what it was. I was just holding it up with my hands, turning it different directions, thinking, What is this? A bra? But wait... no...

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Here's hoping Nick gets a $25000 raise like George's secretary did on the Seinfeld I saw yesterday.

Garter belts - hot
Fishets - hotter
Those sweatshorts with words on the ass - for some reason, really hot. A dirty, dirty, I-know-I-shouldn't-like-it-but-I-can't-turn-away kind of hot. I saw a pair that said "Stick It" one time. Lord. My inner fratboy almost jumped right out of me. His name is "Big Danno."

I wonder if my PDF is done yet?

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Garters are lovely, too. Thongs, I guess...They're fine, but on the right gal some Hanes Her Ways are fine, too.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

i've wondered if it would be a sexy thing underneath a dress or skirt to be discovered later. a friend of mine made sure to tell me that if i ever get one i need to wear my underwear OVER the belt b/c that way you can "keep the belt on while your undies come off." a good tip, me thinks.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:03 (twenty years ago)

fishnets with or without the seam up the leg, gents?

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

dan, i find it sorta charming that you have an inner frat boy.

kelsey (kelstarry), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Whatever. Womeny type things in general aren't really my style.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to have to say with.

xpost: Yeah, it's a good thing I have an outer normal guy. Fuck those visor-wearing sons of bitches in their stupid asses.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

Sorry for the angst, my college sucked when it came to those dudes.

dan m (OutDatWay), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

The words on the ass are kind of hot, though.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

Jaymc, Do you like your ladies in menswear? More along the lines of retro sock garters? ha ha

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

which of the following 4 sex tips is NOT from c-o-s-m-o:

1. "give your guy oral when he's on all fours"
2. "write his name on your panties"
3. "wear a cowboy hat"
4. "bite him all over his butt"

note: i have the article RIGHT in front of me (don't ask why)

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Chicago 16

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

xpost That's funny. I always thought the words on the ass pants were more slutty than anything else, but I think mostly they disturb me because they're often worn by 13 year old girls.

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:09 (twenty years ago)

I started a new thread. These things get out of control so quickly.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

The words on the ass are kind of hot, though.

I agree, but it's ICKY when you see 14 yr old girls wearing them at the mall.

xpost!

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

With. The general issue with women and sexiness -- and this goes back to the makeup and thong comparison -- is: is it sexier to have a woman wearing something particularly sexy, or having a woman perform a feat of alchemy by having something that isn't innately sexy (i.e., a hunting cap) transform itself into something sexy by virtue of the occasion and the charm and air of the woman herself?

Canasta needs to sell name-on-the-ass sweatpants. And for the plus-size ladies, there could be name-of-the-ass sweatpants advertising The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:11 (twenty years ago)

So I guess the thing about hiding the obviousness of makeup or a thong is to wear what you appear to be transforming by virtue of either your body or your character, instead of wearing something that screams "sexy" but is out of sync. Sexiness starts on the inside and gets revealed by earthly objects; the trick of a good sexy item is to reflect, or give the illusion of reflecting, the innate sexiness of the particular woman that has been there all along.

Eazy (Eazy), Wednesday, 21 September 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)
