Hi!

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

will you still love me

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Good job, jaymc.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

So...what's everyone doing this weekend? Or did we cover that?

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Review by William Ruhlmann
It is an article of faith in corporate lore that everyone is expendable, and Chicago Music, Inc., responded to the departure of Peter Cetera by hiring another blonde, bass-playing tenor with sex appeal in the person of Jason Scheff. Some people were fooled, especially by the power ballad "Will You Still Love Me?," but others weren't (the album stopped at gold), and longtime fans were dismayed at the re-recording of "25 or 6 To 4."

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Weekend: food, friend's art show, grad school open house, maybe haircut, band practice, probably more Lost on DVD, probably the gym. I want something to be EXCITED about though.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

oooooh, grad school open house. Are you allowed to tell me more?

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Tomorrow I've got to go to a wedding (outdoors! in October!) of some people that I strongly dislike. Then a big gig on Sunday. I also anticipate finishing the movie Dead & Breakfast tonight and watching some Arrested Development.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

I thought "blonde" only applied to women?
I may try to get up early tomorrow and go "jogging".

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Dudes can be blondes!!

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:55 (twenty years ago)

This came out at the same time as P. Cetera's SMASH HIT Solitude/Solitaire, featuring

GLORY OF LOVE.

And "Next Time I Fall"

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

The next time I fall in love it'll be with yoooooooooooooooooooou.

The way that Peter Cetera songs have invaded my brain is borderline criminal.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

My weekend: pizza with wife's recently-come-out-as-lesbian co-worker and her First Real Girlfriend, probably movie like Were-Rabbit or Constant Gardener, going to pub at break of dawn tomorrow to watch football game with Alex in SF, followed by huge Southern breakfast, then lots of studying all weekend.

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

sorry, i'm just catching up with the lesbian couple i am a part of & we have a two pet pugs, one of them is amanda & they were matching argyle sweaters, but in slightly different colors.
whew!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

hi everybody. John did do a good job. Got the image right and everything. You go, John.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

oooooh, grad school open house. Are you allowed to tell me more?
-- 400% Nice (adamr...), October 7th, 2005 11:53 AM. (nordicskilla) (later)

What do you want to know?

I want to see Were-Rabbit movie too.

We will probably be playing We Love Katamari at some point too, I got it last night plus a second controller so Sarah and I can play it in COOPERATIVE mode.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Dudes can be blondes!!

I think Jocelyn is right. If I were getting married to Jason Scheff, he would be my blond fiance. If, however, he got a sex change prior to the wedding, she would then be my blonde fiancee.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

xpost - Yes, the other pug and I are proud to be a part of your new alternative family.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

People, people... I humbly request that in my absence, you do not talk fondly of Peter Cetera.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Kenan! Sorry I didn't call you back last night -- I felt like I'd already made plans with Renee and didn't want to back out...

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Tomorrow I've got to go to a wedding (outdoors! in October!) of some people that I strongly dislike

That is a recipe for obnoxious public intoxication if ever there was one.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Listen, that's not FONDNESS -- it's horror.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Hey, next weekend is MANDEEFAP 05. What are we doing for that? Where is Mandee?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

i am a man who will fight for his honor!

bingo (Chris V), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Peter Cetera makes me angry.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Me too.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

nooooooooooo oh chris i kill you now.

Juulia (julesbdules), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

Wow, blond/blonde, really? This never even occurred to me.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

That is a recipe for obnoxious public intoxication if ever there was one

YOU ARE CORRECT.

But I also want to be able to drive away as soon as possible.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

So "Blonde on Blonde" is about hot, lesbian sex?

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:03 (twenty years ago)

there's a possibility that leaf & i will be trying to round up some of his friends for drinking on saturday night. i can keep people posted if they like.

LEAF IS COMING NEXT WEEKEND!!!!!*

*excited spazzzz out

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Hey, next weekend is MANDEEFAP 05. What are we doing for that? Where is Mandee?

Kelsey and I also have friends coming into town that weekend. I have a feeling things might be crazy! I am half-considering seeing United State of Electronica on Thursday the 13th, and then going to see Superpitcher and Ada LATER THAT SAME NIGHT. Of course, that might only make sense if I took Friday off.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

I have five gigs that weekend.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

Who is Peter Cetera?

I don't really know what I'm doing this weekend. Laundry, sweeping. Exercise!

Oh, and drinking.

gib at work, Friday, 7 October 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

are you talking about daronco?

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:07 (twenty years ago)

I don't know.

giboy-YO!, Friday, 7 October 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

are you talking about daronco?

Yes, and Chris.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Jeff and I also have friends coming into town that weekend! Crazy.

Peter Cetera is the lead singer of 70s rock group Chicago. He later went on to reach new and as of yet unheard of levels of suck, and contributed to the ruination of my tastes for radio in the 80s.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:08 (twenty years ago)

chris is coming?! fucking hell. so is my cousin. and leaf!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

OMG six minutes to SANDWICHES.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

chris is coming?!

Yeah, he texted me the other day! I thought you knew!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Someone (not me) should have a party to accomodate all of these people. Maybe this would be a good time for a Delilah's party?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

So "Blonde on Blonde" is about hot, lesbian sex?

I wouldn't say that it's definitely NOT about hot, lesbian sex.

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

I had no idea!! I'm actually a little stressed about all these visitors, I have to say . . . Leaf & I haven't seen each other in a month (which feels like forever) & then all these other people I love are in town at the EXACT SAME TIME!!!

amanda, I'd have a party, but people would stay longer than I'd want. I'm thinking about sending out an invite to have everyone meet up at the edgewater tavern or something like that.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:13 (twenty years ago)

My wife *loves* that Peter Cetera song, the one from Karate Kid?

What do you want to know?

What are you going to study? Where are you applying? etc!

What's We Love Katamari like? I want to get it when I next get paid. I too bought another controller (for MY Sarah) so that we could play the first one, but she got bored of that mode.

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

I am thinking of doing a Master's in Journalism. I'm looking at a couple of schools here in Chicago. The open house tomorrow is for the school that it's vastly more likely that I'd actually get into.

We Love Katamari is great, but I've ONLY played it in cooperative mode so far, which is kind of impossible.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Tell me about these sandwiches, Jenny. Don't spare the details.

I just went to get a deli sandwich, but the guy said they were out of BREAD and sold me some garlic-pepper chicken instead.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:22 (twenty years ago)

Who runs out of bread?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Ah, my wife was once looking at at least one of the Masters programs you were looking at(the big famous one at the big famous school in Chicago). Well, good luck!

400% Nice (nordicskilla), Friday, 7 October 2005 16:23 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys.

I think my favorite thing about "You Shook Me All Night Long," and this is a trick that AC/DC uses a lot, is how it starts with this pretty, almost delicate guitar intro, before going right into the DUH - DUH NUH NUH, NUH NUH! DUH NUH NUH, NUH NUH! And then the bass doesn't come in until the first chorus. They are masters of space and dynamics in rock riffery.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 14 October 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

YES. Kelsey that's fab-u-lous.
(Amanda, I have read all the other books in the series when I was about 15 except for the Tanith Lee one, as I don't like her writing. I have most of them, except for The Nightingale and The Sun, Moon, & Stars because they are out of print)

I like how you wore the sweatband over your doorag, to secure it. HOTT.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

In all of those photos, the goatee looks drawn on in Photoshop!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

I call it "GrouchoVision."

Paunchy Stratego (kenan), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

By the way, I woke up this morning and found a letter under my door (I guess I didn't notice it last night when I got home) saying that my building is being sold and I need to vacate the premises by November 15. What a week.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:05 (twenty years ago)

John, you're kidding!!!! That's fucked up!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

What? You've been gentrified!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

That's horrible!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:14 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's terrible. Don't worry though, we'll help you move your stuff.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

(Who is the person with blonde hair and glasses?)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

you've been gentrified!

Probably! The cheap rent couldn't last forever...

I'm on a month-to-month lease, so apparently the short notice is legit. The annoying part is that while I technically have one whole month to leave, I only really have two weeks to find a new place, since most places start at the beginning of the month.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

1) Nick is OTM about AC/DC.

2) Haha, that beard looks paintshopped on!

3) Jaymc, WTF? Did you at least get your car back so you can live there?

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:17 (twenty years ago)

it's my friend, katie, joce.

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

I blame M. Henry.

And no, the car is still missing.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Hey I just did a search on apartments dot com for 1-br in the lower Rogers Park area and there seem to be some nice ones within the same price range as what you were paying, although they're probably 1br and not 2.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

That's probably fine. I'm not sure I need a 2BR anyway, although I like having a room to just throw stuff in. (My smaller bedroom is basically a glorified closet.)

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, if you need help moving stuff into storage, that shouldn't be a problem, and i'm sure there are plenty of couches you can crash on while you look for a new place.

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

John, that sucks, BUT this gives you a chance to start over in a new apartment. I suggest getting rid of as much stuff as possible before trying to move. It's very freeing.

SIX HOURS LEFT!

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Do you want to stay in the same area or try something new?

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I am a commitment phobe in the housing arena, but I love me a new apartment (though, oddly, I'm kind of stuck on the one we have now, for the moment anyway).

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

I found out recently that our landlord is planning on expanding into our floor of the building (can't blame them, they have 3 kids and live in the downstairs.) I think we have until the spring, which is good. I think I want to stay in L. Square, but I'm kind of curious about other areas.

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if I want to stay in the same area. I originally moved up here because I was living with my brother and he was going to Loyola, but that's obv. not an issue anymore. The idea of a shorter commute appeals to me, but opening up the possibilities of moving ANYWHERE is a bit overwhelming.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

i'm leaving in about 10 minutes for a staff meeting that gets over at 3. then i get to go home!!! weeee!!!!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

No, John! It's fun! What sort of neighborhood tickles yer fancy?

Yay, kelsey!

Kittens Licking Cakes (coco), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

and leaf comes soon!!!!

bye all! i'm biking up to evanston!!! i feel like an exercise freak today b/c i'm going to the gym since i get out of work early & it's my "heavy lifting" day. so bike to work, bike to evanston, bike home from evanston, lift heavy things.
then nap?!

kelsey (kelstarry), Friday, 14 October 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Nap is right! Geez. Don't forget to eat something. Have fun with your MAN!!

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

Sarah -- I actually do like the idea of moving into a NEW place. I was just telling someone the other day that because I moved into my current apartment when I had just turned 22, it never really progressed out of that just-out-of-college aesthetic, with creased posters on the wall and all that. I'm looking forward to reinventing my living space.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

And in fact, I'm kind of glad that I'm getting a kick in the pants to do it, because I wouldn't have done so myself. I probably would've lived in that apartment forever.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

A couple of my friends just signed a lease to live in Roscoe Village. Is that like Wrigleyville Jr. or what?

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Yes. All of my 30+ friends who are married/engaged are moving there.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Heeeeeeeeey now.

Jaymc, this could be the dawn of a whole new era for you.

The Milkmaid (of Human Kindness) (The Milkmaid), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Argh, why is my boss here today? She always works from home on Friday, allowing me to play on ILX all day, but today she is HERE. OH NO!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Not us!

What time are people meeting tonight?

Jeff-PTTL (Jeff), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Df'nM (OutDatWay), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

We have this work study student who is going to be the end of me. Last Friday she sat at the table twanging a rubber band like a banjo and giggling to herself for 5 minutes, then popping bubble wrap, this Friday we got a whole collection of Judaica books in, and she's felt obligated to explain the difference between Hebrew and Yiddish to every. single. person who walks by. In a "How much would my head weigh if it were made of cheese voice?" Most of whom answer "Yes, we KNOW" and then she started wondering why books about Jews were in some sort of Spanish language. I thought about being a smart ass and explaining it, but didn't even want to get involved.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 14 October 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

And then I went to get lunch and they were blasting Dave Matthews Band in the coffee shop.
