Some might get away w/needing a standard boss pedal, others might need something bigger, like an electro-harmonix memory man. January could be young mark gardener, february jason pierce etc up 'till december, which could be sonic boom, who needs an entire serge modular panel, of course.

my uncle used to be the lighting guy for medieval times. when i was a kid we all went to see the show and he rigged our tickets so that we sat in the winning quarter. then at the end, the knight came and plucked my grandma out of the audience to be his bride. i think that was rigged too.
the next time i saw my uncle was at his wedding, where he was getting hitched to some eighteen year old he met while vacationing in mexico. the vision of a balding, squat, middle-aged ex-lighting tech for medieval times marrying a voluptuous barely legal knockout set off the red flags, so a small section of us spent the reception placing bets on how long it would last. in the end, they went about fourteen months. she left him to join the circus! burn

Me and my friends used to tape sections of "Between the Lions" over parts of my brother's skinemax tape. These two women were talking about some giant dildo/alarm clock thing they had, which squeezed lube out the top. After they started, we taped Funnymouth Whitehair, who was saying, "GLOPPY! ggggllllllooo-ppy! Gloppeeeeeeey!" So now I just associate him with fake spooj.

stoked for the madness (nickalicious), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 14:18 (eighteen years ago)

The difficulties in this thread are numerous.

First, the figure must be 'known' to every ILxor, yet cannot be a member of our community. This one limitation alone reduces the possible candidates to 100% celebrities - entertainers, sports figures, politicians and their ilk. And only the most visible of these.

Next, we do not actually know any of these people. We know their reputations, their public faces, their public gaffes, their personas. It is all quite artificial and heavily mediated.

Although we may accurately enough know and admire their public accomplishments (or deplore them) our 'liking' for them can never have the slightest bit of depth or meaning. It only means we think they have a nice manner or a pleasant smile or something equally shallow - with pure imagination making up about 95% of the content of that 'liking'.

So, I nominate George W. Bush. He's one heckuva likeable guy, dontcha know? Folksy. Warm. Genuine. Not too stuck up. And not afraid of "hard work" either. I must have heard him praise "hard work" a million times! What's not to like?

-- Aimless (aimles...), November 13th, 2006. (later)

THANKS FOR POINTING THAT ALL OUT

-- gbx (polarbea...), November 13th, 2006. (later)

Sorry, gbx, but getting caught up with celebrities is like having lots and lots of imaginary friends. Although this does make for some fabulous imaginary tea parties!

More tea, Cameron? And do tell me all about this, uh, kabbala, Madonna! Ooops! Did I pronounce that correctly? Ving, you bad boy, you were laughing at me weren't you? Be that way, you lug, I love you anyway!
