Am I alone in hating (as in REALLY hating Coldplay)?

I thought Yellow was utter crap, I didn't think much of Parachutes and the new stuff is total boring, bland, soulless pish. You know you're in trouble when the local radio station we have on in work will only play Coldplay alongside Ronan Keating, Stock Aitken and Waterman 80's hits, disco one hit wonders and Phil Collins as far as modern music goes. And all the oldies at my work LOVE Coldplay! One girl who only buys dance music is happy to announce that 'Coldplay are great'. It's like they are the inoffensive, dad-rock crap that has taken over everywhere.

Thankfully my friends hate them. I hate them. I hate Chris Martin's face. It annoys me. Great, he's shagging Gwyneth Paltrow - maybe now he won't have reason to moan so often. I really wish Coldplay would fuck off, they're the new U2 alright - in more ways than one.

Ronan Keating, Stock Aitken and Waterman 80's hits, disco one hit wonders

sounds like a grebt station

Chupa-Cabras (vicc13), Sunday, 2 March 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

they're not the new U2 at all, and Chupa-Cabras you're so lucky!

Stock,Aitken & Waterman ROCK!

Paul R (paul R), Sunday, 2 March 2003 15:28 (twenty-two years ago)

It's like they are the inoffensive, dad-rock crap that has taken over everywhere.

Except in the United States where, Grammys and the odd bit of MTV aside, it is possible to mostly pretend they're not there at all. See, there are good things about America!

Jesse Fox, Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Hate is too strong of a word for Coldplay. "indifference" is better.

jack cole (jackcole), Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

America has enough terrible dadrock of its own, why would they want the British equivalent?

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:28 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't be indifferent to a band that now graces the front pages of every tabloid newspaper, every fucking magazine, has NME worshipping their torid ass and blare from every radio and TV station in the land. I HATE Coldplay, I hate that ugly bastard lead singer: "Oooooh I didn't lose my viriginity until I was 22, feel sorry for me as I now prove that as long as you have a bit of fame any half witted, overrated, over-paid blonde bint actress will suck my fetid cock". ARGGGHHHH! They are so damn inoffensive and boring and I hate, hate, hate Yellow. What the hell is that song anyway? An ode to jaundice?

I even hate that dogass video for The Scientist.

Calum Robert, Sunday, 2 March 2003 19:53 (twenty-two years ago)

i just can't get enough of reading about people hating coldplay

keep it coming

ron (ron), Sunday, 2 March 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Take that hate and direct towards Nu matal.

Hayden (Hayden), Sunday, 2 March 2003 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with Jesse on this. God Bless my USA.

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Sunday, 2 March 2003 23:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Coldplay is so bland and dull that I forgot they existed. All their tracks go in one ear and out the other. They're just another example of glorified elevator music.

Justin Price, Monday, 3 March 2003 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

well Justin, you've just taken your first step into a larger world...

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 March 2003 01:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't mind "Yellow" and the song they played on the Grammys. I've heard nothing else. Should I be thankful?

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Monday, 3 March 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Beyond all measure.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 3 March 2003 02:09 (twenty-two years ago)

you are not alone. Search both ILM and ILE for details.

Ed (dali), Monday, 3 March 2003 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I could never hate Coldplay. What some people call "Dadrock" is clearly the best music around these days.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

there are some around here who disagree (more fool them). if you don't believe me, see this:

Does rap count as REAL music?

Keep fighting the good fight!

andy paltridge (andy), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

not to mention...

toploader

andy paltridge (andy), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm.. Stereophonics and Toploader isn't exactly the best retro music around. Let Rod Stewart and Nazareth both have a rest now, and rehash the _good_ pop of the past instead - OK?

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

toploader are the heirs to stevie wonder's throne, surely? they have updated (if not bettered) his formula, for the modern age....

andy paltridge (andy), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:41 (twenty-two years ago)

When Titans Tussle

Tom (Groke), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

That would be Jamiroquoi, Paltridge. Only Wonder's own "Conversation Peace" is a better 90s album than Jamiroroui or Toploader will ever be able to come up with. :-)

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Jesus! Just because a band is inoffensive doesn't mean they can't be good!

Evan (Evan), Monday, 3 March 2003 11:58 (twenty-two years ago)

does not compute.

stevem (blueski), Monday, 3 March 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh my word.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Monday, 3 March 2003 12:31 (twenty-two years ago)
