Isn't it cool?

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:08 (twenty-two years ago)

you've all got me on killfile haven't you

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 28 April 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I like that DK7 acid trak, and the Volga Select 12 is nice and grimy. what else is on there? Output's roster is always good, they just seem a bit faddish, albeit usually a baby step ahead of the game. what happened to the post-rock Trev (not that I care)?

p.s. we need MORE dance fodder, MORE, Ronan.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Monday, 28 April 2003 20:05 (twenty-two years ago)

damn straight. yeah the DK7 one is the one I was thinking of, I wasn't exactly sure of the name so I neglected to mention it. I have a good dance thread for tomorrow.

I also hadn't heard Olio before. Not so impressed by the Black Dice tune, I'd be way more into Lacquers new track getting all the props, I forget what it's called though. Erm I'll post tomorrow.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 28 April 2003 21:18 (twenty-two years ago)

that lacquer tune is called 'behind' and i really want to hear it.

michael wells (michael w.), Monday, 28 April 2003 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

did you like "x"? I thought it was very good.

I got the Kitsune thing and like it alot. DJ Falcon is playing that "I don't know why, I don't know why" vocal off one of Bangalter's Tracks on the Rocks 12s over the Braxe/Falke song Love Lost, and it sounds fantastic.

My friend has stolen the trick, it's just too good not to steal, makes it like a whole new song.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 28 April 2003 21:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That DK7 track is incredible, XFM were playing it last night so it might be out as a single soon. I like the whole album a lot, though I've been listening to it in the car so can't pick out many individual tracks - this is the first time I've heard "Losing My Edge", shamefully, and obviously that stood out.

Mike (mratford), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I want the Output comp. pretty badly.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 28 April 2003 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

tracklisting pls!

ta.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

So far I'm big into ODB on the Run and obviously the DK7 thing, I just hope someone plays it out soon.

What was all the fuss over Me & Madonna about? Every single Black Strobe track I've heard has been the same, not bad or anything but not fantastic either. Their remix of Number One by Playgroup which our own Andy K introduced me to is the only thing I really felt I could love.

The Zongamin remix of Make It Happen is a bit dull too. Not heard the original Olio, is the full length version any different? It's an absolute classic as far as I'm concerned anyway, I wasn't hugely into HoJL but between I Need Your Love and Olio I think I am quite excited about the album.

And good to see you around again Mike.

1. Malibu - 7 Hurtz
2. Doop - Manhead
3. Crazy Love - Colder
4. Me & Madonna - Blackstrobe
5. Losing My Edge - Lcd Soundsystem
6. The Unconditional Discupline Of The Bastard Prince - Volga Select
7. The Difference - Dk7
8. Olio (Full Length Version) - The Rapture
9. Distance - Grand National
10. Make It Happen (Zongamin Remix) - Playgroup
11. Dont Stop - Tall Blonde
12. Odb On The Run - Dempsey
13. Ice Skating Girl - Rekindle
14. Non Revival Alarm - Circlesquare
15. There Are Great Monsters Going Past - The Boy Lucas

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

The Rekindle song is the one you need. It sounds like New Edition!

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 10:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Ronan, slightly off topic they're rereleasing the Playgroup CD with a remix cd. Now do I buy it again or not?

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 10:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I have only heard one good remix, so no I reckon!

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:11 (twenty-two years ago)

The DK7 single is going to be released in May, which I could have told you yesterday if I'd bothered to read the CD booklet. I love this album, it's stylistically all over the place but aesthetically whole in a very satisfying way. The sequence from Blackstrobe to The Rapture is completely solid, you won't hear a better trilogy of tracks than the LCD Soundsystem, Volga Select and DK7 ones all year.

And good to see you around again Mike.

Thanks! Appreciated.

Mike (mratford), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 20:17 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
so what's volume 3 like? is output falling off? i really like that lopazz 12, especially i need ya (house with amp hum!). plus the new yello track (if it is new) is fun.

i know it's floating about on slsk, just haven't found it yet.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Friday, 30 July 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

That Yello track is an old B-side of theirs, apparently. I think I really want this comp.

Shady Loch Lenin (haitch), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

the comp is great. i love the manhead track.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

me, too. pretty good all around, actually - it's been my stairmaster soundtrack lately.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I like this alot.

The DK7 track is insanely good, far better than "The Difference" even. Also the Circlesquare track is great to play into the Black Strobe one at work. Oddly the shop staff don't seem to like me much, haha!

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I had been waiting for a Dead Combo song forever. They were great when they opened for Colder in NYC a couple of years ago. Who'd have thunk that the Doors + ARE Weapons would be awesome?!?!?

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 30 July 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure about the Linus Loves remix thing on it, the rap is awful and reminds me of Crazytown. Also it sticks out a mile cos it's so happy and nice compared to the rest of the record.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i like hey dusty. there's another one on the record that i like a lot as well... it has a great t-rex "la la la la la la la" thing.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 30 July 2004 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked 'The Abwehr Disco'. I looked on the web to see if it was on any CDs. I saw it was on an Output records one. I wondered if the rest of the CD was good. I searched ILM for the first artist, Lopazz. This thread comes up. I realised that this was compilation that Ronan was telling me to buy yesterday on this thread. This is what being on ILM is like for me these days.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 19:59 (twenty-one years ago)

The first time I heard Abwehr Disco was just when we got Channel 3 at work, I actually winced when that evil grating synth comes in, so angry!

ps-N shop at Carbon.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to Carbon today, in fact. I was thinking of asking for the Black Strobe 12" but I haven't even got a turntable at the moment and I still get weirded out about having to ask for things in shops.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(also, judging by the fact that Kompakt 100 was £18, I don't think it's very cheap. Though the 3 for £15 CD racks looked tempting.)

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I do too sometimes, I think everyone does, I've spent ages perfecting my "make customers feel they can ask about something by the way you say hello".

The Black Strobe thing should be available on CD also, we have 2 copies anyway.

(yeah it's not the best value I don't think. we don't have kompakt 100 though, is it out on CD?)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Carbon people are unfriendly try Rub-a-Dub, they are much nicer.

btw i used to have the crazy shopping fear too so i can feel your pain brother.

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Kompakt 100 has been out on CD for ages, I think. I got mine from juno.co.uk.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not unfriendly!

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 20:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i meant the glasgow people - i'm sure you're very friendly! is your carbon part of Urban Outfitters too?

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yep. there only was ever one outside a UO and from what I hear the less said about it the better!

also being in urban outfitters makes for far prettier customers. (not to mention the staff)

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

and discount!

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

The women in Urban Outfitters are hilarious. They just flit about looking beautiful and confused, like moths to the only flame in Glasgow or something.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed. i've not bought a thing since starting there though, can't be bothered going in on my day off, also don't like the idea of going into work in clothes I bought there.

they probably look scared more than confused judging by how UO treat their staff.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:17 (twenty-one years ago)

No one seems to ever be buying anything, either in Carbon or the rest of the shop. Except crappy knickknacks downstairs when they can't think what else to get for someone's birthday.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I suspect the whole thing is a front.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's say Carbon wasn't exactly loading in the new stock for a long time, say the first 6 months of this year. I only started in June and for the first 2 weeks or so it had gotten so bad we might sell 2 cds a day. It's still on the upswing and not quite firing on all cylinders yet in Dublin, stock increasing and sales too, so I imagine Scotland is similar.

UO does really well here, it's really busy, there aren't many good clothes shops in Dublin though.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

It's busy, but more as a kind of afternoon attraction to wander around than as an actual shop where people actually buy things. Though the clothes are so expensive I suppose they only have to sell about one item a day. The NY one was quite cheap, I seem to recall. I don't really understand their pricing strategy.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

UO UK is quite a different thing from UO US. UO US is more like H&M cheapness.

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yes UO here is not really indie is it?

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it's like eurotrash hipster millionairess.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

now you're talking.

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

yes UO here is not really indie is it?

is it if you work there ;)

jed (jed_e_3), Thursday, 5 August 2004 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

alba - i just sent the colette one out (i'm moving with lightning speed these days), but i can burn the output one as well if you'd like. fear me and my new ibook/free postage/mailers!!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 5 August 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

GOOD GRIEF.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 6 August 2004 08:06 (twenty-one years ago)

N you make a good Charlie Brown.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 6 August 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Lauren dangles CDs in front of me like Lucy holds the football.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 6 August 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I always saw myself as a Linus.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 6 August 2004 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Charlie Brown: Why is he such a hippie?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 6 August 2004 08:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I went to Rub-A-Dub and they were indeed very friendly but they didn't have Channel 3. Then I popped into HMV on the way home and found it there. I feel bad now though, because Rub-A-Dub said they'd ring me if they got it in. I hope they're not going to get it especially for me.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 7 August 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

how do you like it

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 7 August 2004 17:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Nothing's really grabbed me like 'The Abwehr Disco', but I haven't listened to it properly yet. I like the Manhead track.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 7 August 2004 17:43 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
My favourite track on Channel 4 is "All I Wanna Do is Breaks Some Hearts" by the Kreeps, apparently from Baltimore. Live-sounding transverse flute punk disco. Anyone know anything about these Kreeps?

JoB (JoB), Sunday, 30 October 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

not heard the new one yet, though the vinyl sampler was a bit ecstacy nightmare kills teen.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 31 October 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone know what happened to Output's US distribution (formerly through Caroline)? Not only are the new releases unavailable except as expensive imports (Channel 4, the Colder and DK7 albums, etc.), the entire back catalog has also been jacked up in price...
