what was the significance (effect on music from New York/America/World since)?

discuss the connection to British Post-Punk (similarities, differences, equivalents for those feeling playful)

Anyone there at the time?

I'm listening to its now and its pretty cool. The Contortions are amazing, Lydia lunch sounds like one of the chicks from the Raincoats and Mars are also pretty cool what with that weird guitar bit on Helen Fordsdale and the surreal brooding of Hairwaves.

Of the artist selected to appear on No New York, none were very happy with the production, claiming Eno did little more than turn on the mics.

sure sounds like that, esp. the contortions tracks which sound like he used one mic.
