D_l_k From Government Names is my current favorite music writer on Earth

I'm sure some of you go to the Government Names blog as some of the people on it used to (or still do) post here, but I just wanted to start this thread because I think that site is doing some really fantastic stuff (by all involved)....However, this D_l_k (who I'm pretty sure used to be William Wiggins and DK on ILM and maybe cloverlandthug but I'm not sure) is really doing what I think is some of the best, most poignantly observed "music" writing around today (I put "music" in quotes because they are almost like little strange short stories than criticism or analysis as such but whatever it is I like them very much)...

Anyway for those of you who have missed some of this here's some links:

Government Names (Young Buck platinum chain essay is up right now)

http://www.governmentnames.blogspot.com/

Also, YOU REALLY NEED to scroll down the September archives for this thing about going to a club to see some dorky looking Canadian rap crew called the Set Speed Crew, really amazing (it's below a picture some black dudes and one white dude in all white t-shirt:

http://governmentnames.blogspot.com/2004_09_01_governmentnames_archive.html

Also, this is the person who I think is the same person, posting here on ILM as William Wiggins, in what is probably my favorite thread ever....scroll down a bit for the obvervations from the 50 Cent concert:

i'm going to see 50 cent

Anyway, DK, DLK, William Wiggins whoever you are, good job on all this stuff....Just thought is should be noted.

I wholly endorse this thread.

there were so many toughlooking boys. fat white dudes limping around in jogging suits with fake burberry on them and rough native boys with tears tattooed under their eyes and the name of their reservation on the backs of their shiny black jackets and kids selling weed for way too much by the ice cream window. there were so many beautiful girls. native girls with sparkles all over their all fixed up hair and on their necks and foreheads and dragging around their little brothers in brand new g-unit t-shirts over the shirt they wore to the concert and having perfect method for lighting the joint, holding it cupped down around your waist and lighting it there and puffing it on your lips. pretty white highschool girls with their winterfat still on and little shirts crinkling over fat tummies and folding into bellybuttons, butterfly or maple leaf tattoos on their right shoulder, ugly asshole boyfriends with curly hair. and spectacular women that have real jobs and after it's done their boyfriends will be out front, cruising past the shuttle buses, revving engines, beeping horns in white corvettes or black denalis. and overthehill women with fat breasts and low shirts and weird skirts that are tight on the legs and dancing all weird down with the kids and some men dancing with them.

That paragraph from the 50 concert is a great piece of writing.

i love this stuff (weave in they hair weed in they purse too and that posse blog ddrake is on is up and coming). its a great antidote to the reyonaldsians writing about dance/r@b/hip-hop etc (who I also love) and closer to how i would/do write if i put any time into it.

Ha yeah the whole gov't names blog is great. The one I'm doing is ok but yeah gov't names and weave/hair is where its at.

i had a query on another thread - there was someone posting on ilx under the name thoed who also writes for GN - what name does he post on GN under?

r kelly - a woman's threat the best thread ever?

Symplistic (shmuel), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I liked that post in gov't names where they reviewed a song with a lyric about sucking balls, and the writer mentioned how they preferred licking to sucking.

This is why I read blogs.

thoed = scg = swolla on GN

I feel weird outing/explaining everyone else's names, I hope they don't mind. it's kind of ironic because I came up with the GN name partly as kind of a "real names, no gimmicks" statement, but then I'm like the only contributor who doesn't use aliases!

btw, this is as good a place to ask as any, how does everybody feel about the new logo graphic at the top of the page? it used to be one of the normal green bills but then my brother Zac made the one that's up now with the new colorful $50 bills, and we're not sure which one to keep up there.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:17 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry zac, i liked the old one better.

m. (mitchlnw), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:27 (twenty-one years ago)

no need to be sorry, he made both, we're just trying to figure out which is best. i appreciate the feedback.

Al (sitcom), Tuesday, 5 October 2004 20:44 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for clearing up the confusion Al! i enjoy GN plenty when i get the chance to read it. dk is very good.

Government Names is awesome. My favorite post remains the one about Biggie's Toyota fetish. My kind of expose.
