They're both a couple years old now. Last.fm (né Audioscrobbler) seems to have won. Is that because it's all on the web, instead of an app?

There were a couple of ILM threads about 'em that I stumbled over while searching for info on stuff I found on tapes in my closet. I'd never heard of 'em either, but they seem to do a similar thing to Audioscrobbler, and I was wondering if anyone had used both.
