Forgive me if this topic has been exausted before......but
like, what's the indie scenester set obsession with wolves?
Wolfmother, Wolf Parade, Aids Wolf, Wolfbite, Wolf Eyes, Wolfie, Tiger Bear Wolf...

The worst part about it is, these pretentious hacks don't even dress up like fucking wolves! What the fuck is that shit!? At least be be man enough to take it to the real wolf level man!
Naw, it's just the usual skinny bearded white dudes with strategically disholved hairdos.
Fuck that shit, if your gonna put wolf in your fucking band name, I wanna see some wolfed out legs in basketball shorts!
Then there's the wolf fashion. Wolf t's, wolf trucker caps, wolf patches, bandadas around the neck etc...
Did I miss any indie wolf bandsnames?
Forgive me, I live in like one of the hubs of america for indie schlock rock...I gotta see this shit everywhere. I'm looking for the socialogical reasoning and breakdown....

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:27 (nineteen years ago)

Also, there was no discussion in that thread as torward the reasoning why the kids are so bout wolves.

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:29 (nineteen years ago)

because foxes are too poncey

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

Damn! I was gonna call my new band Wolfscrotum!

sleeve (sleeve), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:35 (nineteen years ago)

When the "Black ----" craze was at its peak (Black Dice, Black Eyes, Black Keys, etc.) I wanted to start a band called The Black Guys.

I also thought of Black Black, but that's taken.

So how about Wolf Wolf?

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:38 (nineteen years ago)

NONE OF THESE FUCKERS DRESS LIKE WOLVES! They aren't keepin it real!

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:40 (nineteen years ago)

Peanut Butter Wolf is quite possibly the most annoying name ever. I want to physically injure that individual, if I get the chance.

punis (punis), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:43 (nineteen years ago)

How bout a cock rock cover band that inserts wolf in every lyric hook.
"Wolf me once, wolf me twice, c'mon pretty baby wolf me deadly!"

"Here I wolf again on my own, wolfin' down the only road i've ever known, like a drifter i was born to wolf alone..."

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:46 (nineteen years ago)

...

gear (gear), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:49 (nineteen years ago)

Going back a little earlier, there was The Wolfgang Press, who perhaps deserve some of the credit for starting this whole lupine movement.

ratty, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:51 (nineteen years ago)

It's all about Lupine Howl. Or at least it should be. Underrated band...

Jacobo Rock (jacobo rock), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:54 (nineteen years ago)

don't forget early 70s prog also-rans Wolf

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:55 (nineteen years ago)

Dude. Wolfgang Mozart was such a fuckin' indie poseur.

Also, Lupine Howl's first CD does, indeed, rule.

vartman (novaheat), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 04:57 (nineteen years ago)

nerds & pretentious hacks are adjectives that best describe music critics, not musicians. you were obviously in a hurry to attack this mythical thing you are calling 'indie'

nicky lo-fi (nicky lo-fi), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 06:13 (nineteen years ago)

"shit" is going to replace "wolf"

see Shit Robot, Shit Disco

i predice more to come

I do like how my first search result for "Shit Robot" brings up the Alan Parsons Project...

zach mercer (suizen), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 06:38 (nineteen years ago)

we got teenwolf and wolf and cub here in Oz as well.

The Black Wolves? Just to really miss the zeitgeist.

Mowgli in Flares (Mowgli In Flares), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 06:42 (nineteen years ago)

You see the late 90s saw the rise of the monkey in popular culture, there were sock monkeys, cheeky monkeys fucking Paul Frank everywhere and a general celebration of monkey-style amiable cheekiness.

But monkeys have had their day and, probably driven by the popularity of the "tousled mane" look wolves feel more au courant for today's youth and their agnostic relationship to rock cliches. Lone wolves, packs of wolves, blood and venison and red indian braves.

Interestingly in Asia, people have more of a thing for pigs right now. I can't see the wolf thing taking off here.

Jacob (Jacob), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 07:43 (nineteen years ago)

wolves have that nordic viking black metal nazi thing going. perfect for pitchfork.

Was Guitar Wolf (of Japan) the first indie-type band to adopt a lupine moniker? They've had that name since the early '90s.

o. nate (onate), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 08:15 (nineteen years ago)

Peanut Butter Wolf is quite possibly the most annoying name ever. I want to physically injure that individual, if I get the chance.

I need your home address, a photo of you, and the hours that you will be home. Thanks!

worf, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:01 (nineteen years ago)

Takes me back to the "super" boom of the early nineties...
superchunk, supersuckers, superconductor, supersnazz, supertramp, superdrag, supernova, supergrass,

Ron E. Mexico, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:15 (nineteen years ago)

I love that you tossed supertramp into that list.

QuantumNoise (Justin Farrar), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:21 (nineteen years ago)

Forgive me if this topic has been exausted before......but

Heavy metal owned it long before indie and that's where Wolfmother goes more than indie and everyone knows I'm not a fan. Hammerwolf turned to Wolvz. Leatherwolf stayed with leather. Wolf did a Blue Oyster Cult cover a year or two ago but BOC weren't canine. And BOC-cover Wolf weren't the same Wolf that was originally known as Black Axe. And neither were the same as Wolfbane, a band that was on Def American. I never listened to the bands called Seasons of the Wolf or Dark Wolf. Wolf Hoffman was the name of a metal guitarist. Wolf-wolf-wolf ... is the sound the nextdoor neighbor's dog makes.

And no one has had the stones to name their indie band Wolfsschanze.

George 'the Animal' Steele, Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:26 (nineteen years ago)

Interesting breakdown, I always suspected that heshers & indie rockers were slightly different breeds of the same species.

astronautagogo (astronautagogo), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:32 (nineteen years ago)

Can we get a third thread going about wolves

Chris Bee (Cee Bee), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:40 (nineteen years ago)

wolf is the truest animal, and a lone servaent of darkness. i want to eat the innard of the indies whose trespass on sacred grounds

Mr. Vas Djifrens (byzantum), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 22:44 (nineteen years ago)

Patrick Wolf!

Jeff. (Jeff), Wednesday, 17 May 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

More experimental horse blast-core then?

Ice Cream Electric (Ice Cream Electric), Thursday, 18 May 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

Used to be a lot of Fish bands, once.

This time next year? Marmosets. You mark my words.

Marmoset, the band not the monkey, and why that needs to be explained

Keep trying. All your base are belong to us [me].

astronautagogo, this thread is made for you!! -->>> Feel Like Making Lunch

Ice-Cream Electric, all the cool kids i know have moved on to gherkin beat and brine-rock

Tracey Hand (tracerhand), Thursday, 18 May 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

gherkin beat goes down very nicely after a few vodkas.

ratty, Thursday, 18 May 2006 02:46 (nineteen years ago)

I missed the marmoset craze and the brine-shrimp fad?

Fuck.

Perhaps I'll name a band Dugong Show, then.

Keywords: revenge, knife, granddaughter, demonic-possession, rock-star, eel (Aus, Thursday, 18 May 2006 02:50 (nineteen years ago)

Whatever. I still like Ulver.

vartman (novaheat), Thursday, 18 May 2006 04:18 (nineteen years ago)

They really are the last word in wolf worship. Go any further than Ulver, and you may as well eat a raw sheep in the dark.

ratty, Thursday, 18 May 2006 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

Peanut Butter Wolf is quite possibly the most annoying name ever. I want to physically injure that individual, if I get the chance.

At last, somebody musters the courage to stand up and say it. Thank you.

Jason Toon (Jason Toon), Thursday, 18 May 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

I don't understand how hilarious=annoying.
