romanticised as being the more avant-garde, futuristic relative of Chicago House, despite Chicago being repsonsible for the likes of Washing Machine, No Way Back, French Kiss etc.

How do you say "agenda" in German?

blunt (blunt), Thursday, 25 January 2007 23:23 (eighteen years ago)

i guess this is as good as any place to say...holyshitfuck, have you heard the Demon Days/Samurai FM set? if not, i think 24hrs has a zshare link. it's incredible. unassailable.

carlz_duh_main (brother loves dub), Thursday, 25 January 2007 23:29 (eighteen years ago)

if we can't erase totally it from history, let's at least make it a footnote

PappaWheelie MMCMXL (PappaWheelie 2), Thursday, 25 January 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)

hey...I was just playing devil's advocate...early detroit techno is my religion! I just bought all that jazz about how it was so cutting-edge compared to house music before I really got into house music.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 25 January 2007 23:51 (eighteen years ago)

TECHNO WILL ASSAIL YOU

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 26 January 2007 00:01 (eighteen years ago)

can you point me in the way of that CC zshare link? is is from the live set a week ago or a separate thing? i refuse to DL realplayer, as it is worthless junk except in rare cases.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 26 January 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

i just got the Landcruising remaster/reissue in the mail last week and it's a wonderful update to the original recording. i've been on a serious carl craig trip in january and plan on riding this out for as long as possible.

the myths and legends (and cliches) are what make some bands/movements etc so fun. (see Factory Records)

i had to look up the definition of assail.

speculator (speculator), Friday, 26 January 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

Be gone from the internet!

jimn (jimnaseum), Friday, 26 January 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

I was about to write something and then realised that (forgive me) I'm not entirely sure what tracks are typical of Detroit Techno. I know Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson etc etc but few tunes despite being really up with my Sheffield Bleep and M25 Rave stuff. Can someone POX for me? Sorry for being a total noob.

Definitive Techno Compilations (old and new)

that thread mentions a lot of the comps that give a good intro.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 26 January 2007 02:09 (eighteen years ago)

Todd Hutlock wrote a great bluffer's guide to Detroit Techno on Stylus last year.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Friday, 26 January 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, that is a pretty good article to start at-- the track recommendations are spot on.

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 26 January 2007 03:34 (eighteen years ago)

Todd Hutlock leant me the Virgin Techno CDs and Transmat Relics in 1993 and I made a mix tape and would listen to it driving back and forth from ohio to jersey and still have it and to this day it's the single greatest techno mix ever.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 26 January 2007 04:56 (eighteen years ago)

:(

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 26 January 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

so detroit and acid are like the only true sacred cows of ilm? thats great

PRKLTR (flezaffe), Friday, 26 January 2007 10:00 (eighteen years ago)

I love the techno but I find much of the electro tinged stuff overly retro and not particularly great to listen to. I'm not talking about Drexciya though. Those guys rule.

friday on the porch (lfam), Friday, 26 January 2007 13:41 (eighteen years ago)

let's name all the other new genres invented in the last 35 years and see if they measure up to the boom boom boom.

friday on the porch (lfam), Friday, 26 January 2007 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

Skacore
Swing revival

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 26 January 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

oh man... 35 years? it was very early (for me) when i wrote that.

friday on the porch (lfam), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

since detroit techno was invented

the table is the table (treesessplode), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:17 (eighteen years ago)

Todd Hutlock's article is nice but NO mention of Drexciya?

God Bows to Meth (noodle vague), Friday, 26 January 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

I have nothing with which to assail, but I'd like to post this fantastic picture:

*squints really hard*:

"The cookie crew: Dave Gahan and Derrick May share a chocolate chip while discussing the microchips of the 909 drum machine."

Tantrum The Cat (Tantrum The Cat), Friday, 26 January 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

I will say that some of the pressings that have been coming out of submerge in the last few years have been really bad. I bought a new copy of Fade 2 Black by Vice to replace my old worn-out copy. I bought it about 5 months ago and left it sealed. I opened it up yesterday and tried to play it, it skips and jumps... :(

I bought about 15 records and a friend of mine did the same for his shop. A lot of it was warped very badly and had a lot of pops and crackles, it was barely salable.

That being said, I also opened a sealed replacement copy of Living For The Night by UR & Yolanda and it played fine. What a great great record!

Disco Nihilist (mjt), Friday, 26 January 2007 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

that looks more like 808 to me.

no doubt they're thinking about Deko!'s "How Do You Like Your Cookies?" 12"?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 26 January 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

one month passes...
Can anyone ID the penultimate track of the C2 set that was posted above? It starts just before 54:00 - its the one with the voice sample and prominent echoed melody. I swear I know it well, but I can't quite place it.

jng, Thursday, 22 March 2007 02:44 (eighteen years ago)

I believe it's this isn't it?

matt2, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:02 (eighteen years ago)

Yup, that's the one. Nice catch!

jng, Thursday, 22 March 2007 17:05 (eighteen years ago)

Glad I could help. I just got it off eBay like 3 weeks ago so it was fresh in my mind. Great track.
