You do realize you killed that thread, right?

Hardish porn pic - I know there are people who'd like it removed. Including me, probably.

Replaced w/link for the curious.

Not sure whether it's spam or not, keep an eye open for more I suppose.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 10 September 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

Porn pic added. At least make NSFW or turn into link. (Actually the whole thread is pretty deleteable.)

You can have my site back IF

(I know I posted one myself recently. It was a one time thing.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Monday, 12 September 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

(Also, I'm not point fingers, just pointing out that it's there. It may be spam though, I'm not sure.)

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Monday, 12 September 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

can somebody linkify the pic on this one, too?

C/D: That drunk chick who always climbs onstage to dance "with" the band

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

No! Not Zia!!

(Seriously, is there a policy of no potentially "controversial" pictures on ILM? Cos if there isn't, oughtn't we to debate it before unilaterally adopting linkage? What's wrong with NSFW tagging the thread title?)

I Oppose All Rock and Roll (noodle vague), Monday, 12 September 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

it says in the faq that hardcore porn will most likely get deleted, that's about the only mention of it.

For me, it's kinda dependent on context--if it's the first pic on an otherwise clean thread that doesn't otherwise seem like it's going to attract naked pictures, I'll linkify the pic. If it's a thread that's ABOUT penises or whatever, I'll tag NSFW. Obv this goes for ILE. I would be a little stricter about ILM since there's a little less expectation for nudie pics, but eh.

Believe it or not, the argument against simply tagging NSFW is that some people don't know what NSFW stands for. I'm not saying it's a great argument, but I thought I'd mention it.

teeny (teeny), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, Teeny OTM.

The reason to linkify rather than to tag a thread NSFW is that, well, people at work might want to follow it. This obviously matters more for an innocent thread that gets random porno'd, rather than a show us your cock thread.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

I just worry there's a danger of killing some visual humour by linking everything suspect. Fair enough if we're talking hardcore porno but, y'know, sometimes what makes a picture funny is its immediate impact. (Not that that necessarily applies in this case, I just think there's a line to be trod and maybe work ILM-ers should turn the pictures off?)

The Ghost of Black Elegance (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I don't think I'd linkify a nude pic, I'd tag "mild NSFW", but ultimately ILM is a board for people to talk about music so "allowing people to talk about music" has to override "making people laugh" if the laugh is going to exclude workplace posters. Ideally we can have both of course.

(ILE is a completely different case.)

Tom (Groke), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

surely it's up to each individual to decide what's Suitable For Wanking?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

Maybe each individual can go and ask their boss.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

In general, most times things only get linkified if it's requested--only stuff that's hardcore/large filesize gets shot on sight by the mods.

You can only turn images off if you're registered and logged-in, and maybe people don't want to do that at work especially!

teeny (teeny), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Also on ILM there are LOADS of specific MUSIC-RELATED picture threads (album covers etc.) which are pretty much filth-free, and it seems unfair to expect people to turn those off so the rest of us can have a larff at a cumshot pic.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 12 September 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

maybe work ILM-ers should turn the pictures off?

Why modify your own personal settings when you can make the moderators do unnecessary work at your beck and call?

You can only turn images off if you're registered and logged-in, and maybe people don't want to do that at work especially!

They're already tracking http traffic! What does a cookie on your machine matter when they've got an entire log of you dicking around on ILX? Also, if they haven't already said something to you, THEY DON'T REALLY CARE. (Or you won't find out they care until your review. Either way, not logging in will have absolutely zero impact on the amount of shit you will get for dicking around on the Internet; no one's going to say, "Well, you spent 35 hours a week posting on this message board but at least you didn't log into it! Here is your 60% raise and 5 extra vacation weeks.)

kingfish superman ice cream (kingfish 2.0), Monday, 12 September 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

sorry if i created a fuss - i really wasn't bothered by the image, but it was requested by the thread starter, so i thought it was a fair request. i should have NSFW'd it, sorry
