Right before we left for NYC, I found out that I won a $100 gift certificate to a local tattoo parlor. This will be my first tattoo. What should I get a tattoo of?

NA. (Nick A.), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

a hundred dollar bill.

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

A tattoo of a butt on a tattoo of a butt tattooed on your butt.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Settle down Beavis.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:23 (twenty-two years ago)

anything just so long as it's on your face... this is the best place to get tats and prospective employers/girlfriends love it.

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:26 (twenty-two years ago)

A tattoo of breasts. Nothing's better than tits for tats.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:27 (twenty-two years ago)

for $100 your not going to get much.

Dada, Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:32 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps enough for a 't' - to begin the sentence:

this will look average in thirty years and i'll curse the day i won that freakin' prize.

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:37 (twenty-two years ago)

a tatto of breasts on your face, that will do it nicely...

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I quite fancy a new tattoo. Can I have your voucher Nick?

Damn! I'm jealous. . .

Only you can figure out why kind of tattoo you want. Think of some ideas and discuss them with your artist.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

This one rocks.

You'd be surprised what you can get for $100. Even if you wan't something that costs more it's a good start.

Are tattoo prices cheaper in Texas, because here in Ma. they are outrageous. My tattoos were all well over $100 and they aren't even that big. My friends arm sleeve cost him $800 and its not even complete yet.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

They are much cheaper over here. The place where I'm going to go for my future piercings is also a tattoo place -- very hygienic, the rooms look like they're straight out of doctor's offices, lots of glove wearing and a real show of how sterile everything is. Anyway, they do tattoos for $65 a pop. I don't think they're big ones -- I think they're kinda average sized, which I honestly have no idea about in terms of size, but I do know I saw on the board of prices that the regular price for tattoos was $65, with higher prices for what I'm assuming are larger tattoos.

Me, I'm just dying for another set of ear piercings. Will get them after I get my new computer, which I'm currently saving up for.

WE HAVE A WINNAH!!! Shit, I'm wanting that. Get it across your back.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 22:25 (twenty-two years ago)

$800 for a sleeve sitting is completely reasonable.

I have many smallish tats and the most I've ever paid is $130 (for about a 3" diameter color piece.) I'm getting a full lower back piece here soon for $500 but that is total friend price.

There are SO many factors that go into price: location of tat, colors, complexity, size, region of shop, etc. Still a free hundred dollars? rock on Nick.

Woah Chris V...

Mark C (Mark C), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 11:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I still haven't gotten the gift certificate in the mail, which is odd considering they called a week ago and said they were mailing it.
Yeah, I'm not going to get anything huge. Something small and tasteful. Still can't decide what. Haven't really given it too much thought yet. Sarah has suggested various small cutesy things (birdies, swan, etc.) which might be good except will make me seem even wussier than already and I want something more meaningful to me personally. So it needs more thought.

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 10 July 2003 13:12 (twenty-two years ago)

go for an old school tattoo, hula girls, anchors.

OMG Pinkpanther wins hands down.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Please say that is yrs sweetie. . .

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

That Baby Ink link was funny. I probably would've gotten raggedy anne.

Anyway, back to top! We need to force Nick into getting a tattoo right away. I mean, the less you think about it, the more intuitive and right it is, huh?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

That's how I go about getting them, yes.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Me too usually

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Though I will say that the anchor idea is pretty good.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 10 July 2003 18:46 (twenty-two years ago)

I want Nick to look more like a pirate...
Would a pirate get an anchor tattoo? If not, what? A parrot? I want Nick to look more like a pirate...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Get a tatoo of Tatu.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Awesome! I can see it now - this sort of graffiti look to it, kissing of course...

Sarah MCLusky (coco), Thursday, 10 July 2003 19:06 (twenty-two years ago)

the taTu one would cost much more than $100 though. I think that a pirate might have a tattoo of a mermaid? But that would be a bit of money too.

DDG - I would love to say that the tat was mine, but sadly it isn't true!! But if you want to borrow the idea hun, feel free, I'm sure it would look great! ;-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 July 2003 08:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Mermaids are cool, but I don't know if I'd want to look at her breasts every time Nick took his shirt off.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 11 July 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Sarah is OTM def!!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 July 2003 11:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe Nick should get a picture of skull and crossbones! That sounds very pirate. And maybe it could even have an eyepatch.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

bluebirds

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 11:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Just get a ring. I want a 2-inch ring tattooed onto my left shoulder blade (1/4 inch thick).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:40 (twenty-two years ago)

cock?

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:43 (twenty-two years ago)

No.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:45 (twenty-two years ago)

don't lie.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I like skull and crossbones, but it has kind of the opposite problem of the twee tattoos - it's so hardcore that it might make me look disappointly wussy in contrast. But still, yeah, skull and crossbones. Or bluebirds.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Bluebird skulls!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 12:53 (twenty-two years ago)

The bluebirds are nice, its an old school design originally sailors tatooed the bluebirds on both sides of their chests near the neck to signify crossing the atlantic.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I meant crossing the equator.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Dan, Do you mean the ring from Lord of the Rings? Cuz that would be funny. But uh, not cool...

I'm all into bluebirds. Neat fun fact, Chris.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Some ILX threads for research purposes:
* What corporate logo would you have tattooed?
* Tattoos-Suck or Rock?
* Tattoo you
* music related tattoos

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

In fact im getting the bluebirds tattooed on my back left and right of the one thats in the middle of my back. Sometime this month. Much to the dismay of the wife.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

another not so fun fact about the bluebird tattoo's, Mark McGrath of Sugar Ray fame has them.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Think about what you're doing, man!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Good god, what does the Jazz Butcher have to do with that?

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh huh, thanx!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I like them bluebirds! What does the one in the middle of your back look like?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Its a tribal piece, all of mine are tribal pieces. I have nothing but black tattoos, i need some color. I can't describe it, if i had a pic i would post it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I love tattoos so much. Pinup tats are hot. I love looking at sexy girls' breasts inked on people's bodies.

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 12 July 2003 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

There are two tattoos I'd like to get:

five dots inside of my wrist, going from small to large and back to small. (Very clean, simple)

My family crest

The first one isn't feasible right now because it would make working more difficult, and I don't know if I'll someday have a job where that sort of thing is frowned upon (aka teaching). The second is a bit harder, as I haven't found a version of my family crest that is large enough for an artist to work from, and the family colors are pretty bad (white and black).

Traditional/old-school style rocks, but seems quite hard to pull in design and execution.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 12 July 2003 03:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Milo:

old school is not hard in design/execution. A lot of artists get v. bored doing straight Sailor Jerry style stuff b/c it's so simple.

Also, i have had no problems teaching with my tats. But then I teach in the H to the O to the O to the D.

(did you get my email?)

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 12 July 2003 03:07 (twenty-two years ago)

Let me rephrase - it's difficult to do in a way that's aesthetically pleasing and interesting. (To me, at least.)

I had a dream of a tattoo once - it was similar to the old-school knife-through-a-cat's-head in shape, but with a rocket/missile cracking open the Earth. It sounded interesting at the time, but I wasn't 18 yet.

I haven't checked my e-mail in a few days, but I will.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Saturday, 12 July 2003 03:22 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
Argh, I still don't know what to get, and if I'm going to do it, I need to do it before I leave Richmond so I can use the gift certificate. Here's what I want:
Something fairly simple and not huge (probably no bigger than 2 inches than 2 inches, and probably smaller than that).
Most likely, something that can be done in just black ink, or just a couple of colors.
Something that isn't bullshit macho or overbearingly twee.
I'm more into classy, old-fashioned tattoo designs than newer-looking things or tribal patterns or whatever.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

You should get a mermaid.

Allyzay, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm getting this one of these days (but probably not this big):
http://www3.mb.sympatico.ca/~bshurb/es%257dcnt.gif

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

So, no roses on your forearm, then, NA? You could always have Sarah's name done in hieroglyphs.

THAT would be unusual.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 17:53 (twenty-two years ago)

I still like the bird idea. Or a black swan. I'm sure you could find something like that that is a little more masculine looking.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Here is a question. If you don't know the tattoo artist, is it better to stick with a design they have up on their wall than to bring in your own?

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:05 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.belgianbeer.com/images/ozzy.gif

At my tattoo place, most of the artists hate doing stuff off the wall. they prefer to actually create art rather than re-create it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

sarah yr own stuff is always better than flash. First of all, the artists probably hasn't drawn most of the flash, second of all do you want a tattoo that ten other people might have gotten that month?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 18:42 (twenty-two years ago)

OK this is totally dorky, but for awhile, I was thinking of getting a cassette tape as a tribute to the glories of all things analog and hissy, perhaps to even go so far as to have the slogan "Analog Forever" emblazoned below it, but now that we're moving to recording on the computer instead of to tape, that last bit would make me somewhat of a poseur. But I still kind of like the idea of a stylized cassette tape. Yes, I am a nerd.

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:09 (twenty-two years ago)

i think a cassette tape would be cool. maybe a reel to reel?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:10 (twenty-two years ago)

I still like the tape idea.

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

So do I try and draw something reasonably cool myself, or do I go to the artist and say "Draw me a cool tape" and then see what they come up with?

NA (Nick A.), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Be original, and draw it yourself, NA

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:29 (twenty-two years ago)

they'll probably draw it better than you. (since they are artists and all.) sketch out an approximation or take an image you like it and let him/her work with it.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:31 (twenty-two years ago)

This would make a nice tattoo, so long as it's lifesize, that is...
http://roland.tardieu.free.fr/Picasso/Guernica.jpg

Skottie, Tuesday, 4 November 2003 19:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking something just totally blocky and plain, like this:
http://www.uslink.net/~golden/ tape90.gif
But something more stylized might be cool too.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 4 November 2003 20:00 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a couple of them. one a lameo butterfly on my ankle *cringe* that i got at age 15. it will soon be covered with something else, not sure what yet. the other is a large WWII bomber across my back.

NA, the tape idea is great!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Do you have any pics emily?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

no, but i can have the roomates take some. will post soon!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Cool, am def intrigued to see the one on your back.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 10:52 (twenty-two years ago)

We went to the tattoo place last night to check out the "flash" (thanks for the lingo, I blended right in) and wasn't particulary inspired, so then I went home and drew some pics to try and get inspired. I ended up with a little blocky cassette tape with the slogan "Rock & Roll" underneath. I am so cheezy.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

if it's what you want Nick, who cares. Go right ahead & get it done!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 5 November 2003 14:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo tomorrow. I want a scarab beetle on either my back or my shoulder. Discuss.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a feeling there's only one vote that counts besides your own.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Well I'm not sure if my dad's threat to whip out the rotary sander still stands.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

We should get ours at the same time so we can hold hands.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You guys are making this thread all gay :/

I just decided I'm going to get one too! Probably not cos I gots no money but maybe! Anyway Tom, I think it depends on the size still. Actually that's irrelevant cos if you got it on the smaller size it'd be a bit girly so it'd have to be on the slightly larger size on either place. Where exactly on yr back?

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:41 (twenty-two years ago)

(and I totally think you should get it regardless but then again I would)

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 19:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I was thinking just cover my entire back with the thing, as much as possible.
The trick is, which one?

That big huge one with the white on it is obviously the fucking king of the beetles, he'd eat the other ones for breakfast, and then go to his ladybug harem and fuck some bitches too, so I like that one best. Tho he's got some comp from the one on the lower left corner, but he doesn't have as much of a pattern on his back so he's not quite as fucking rough as the other one. ALTHOUGH fuck, that one in the middle row, solid black, with CRAZY legs sticking out, second column in from the right edge, that one is pretty hardcore.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:39 (twenty-two years ago)

anything involving lettering of any sort is such a mistake, I don't know anyone who doesn't eventually get it covered. I'm so glad I didn't do that, not that I don't want to get the one on my stomach covered up anyway.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

but Memento!!! Best tattoos ever!!

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

There are things I agree with you on in theory and things I agree with you on in actuality. If you showed up covered in Memento tattoos, you will find that that is very much a theoretical agreement.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Holy shit, I am definately getting one of these.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha rosemary should get the Law & Order one.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Now I finally found a picture of a bug that I like I'm all jonesing to get it immediately. Big on the shoulder like. It should be tomorrow already. Dammit.

TOMBOT, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Dude, we can go tonight if you want.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:09 (twenty-two years ago)

sleep on it tom. I think you should wait at least 24 hours on getting a tattoo once you've decided on something.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:10 (twenty-two years ago)

NO GET IT NOW

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have NEVER done that. The only one I want to cover, actually, is the one I did put any vague amount of thought into.

xpost with Jordan

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

do not listen to him. he speaks madness.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:13 (twenty-two years ago)

really this is a permanent mark on yr body (barring another one to cover it up or painful expensive laser stuff.) If it's a good design and a good decision, it will keep. This is not impulsive shit.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Grrr, I really, really would like a tattoo (and have for about two years), but I just cannot find anything that I would not get sick of very quickly. :(

That's why the next time I think of something I need to just act on impulse.

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean I'm not saying you're wrong but it's not a theory that works for everyone--for me I secondguess myself into changing my mind, tweaking things, etc etc until I'm all pissed off. The best one I have, I literally saw a design in the subway over someone's shoulder (they were reading some really lame book about druids and celts and shit), I paid them $10 for the book, and went to Sin City with a friend of mine and got it done immediately. I mean, we're talking about a 45 minute span of time.

Same thing with piercings: I had a whim when I was much younger to stick a pin thru my navel. I still have that (slightly crooked, badly done) piercing. I thought about getting my tongue pierced for SIX MONTHS and it hardly lasted 4.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Did you ever get one, NA?

I think Tom should do something like this

http://ikjeld.com/features/tattoo/images/102016-japanese_tattoo.jpg

It would be very Beat Takeshi - hot.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

That was an xpost--basically what Jordan is saying is exactly what I'm saying, when I put thought into it, I overthought it, ended up turning down a lot of designs that I now would prefer because of too expensive/too involved/too whatever and picked something really simple and "meaningful" (ie not objectionable to various people in my life at the time) instead of what I wanted simply because I gave myself the couple days to think about it and didn't go with my first instincts.

Now I am full of regret and hatred over something that's not even bad! But I want to get it covered up, thankfully it is a retardedly simplistic and small one.

xpost again Mary!!!!!!! :P

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

it sounds like you just overthink things ally. I do too a lot of the time. I still do not advise doing it so quickly. And any artist worth his or her salt (read:someone not just after money) wouldn't do so either.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I haven't gotten it yet, I'm overthinking it like Ally. But I am getting closer, we went to the place last week to check out the flash and I drew up some ideas.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:28 (twenty-two years ago)

So, hypothetically, is it really dorky and cheezy to get a tattoo with the words "ROCK AND ROLL" in it?

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe you should put "Indie Pop" instead?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:41 (twenty-two years ago)

i'll marry the person who has "Klezmer"

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

"Microhouse"

Allyzay, Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

The tattoo of mine that I like the least and want to cover is the one I overthought.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:43 (twenty-two years ago)

NA, you should get something dark and romantic like a heart or a black swan.

Lurker (coco), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we just come about ideas differently. I don't even think of getting a tattoo until the basic idea of it clicks in my head. It's a lock tumbling when you stick the right key in. There isn't a whole lot of thinking involved.

As far as waiting it's more a matter of deciding that this tattoo is right to do, at this time and for whatever reasons. I've got lots of designs in mind that I haven't done yet. It's not the right time for whatever reason.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

"electroclash forevah"

Jordan (Jordan), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Romo Rock 4-eva

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Fuck it, I'm sick of thinking about it, just tell me what to get.

NA (Nick A.), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I lie. There are two I thought about for a long time - one I hate, one I love. It's this one... the symbol means 'remember' and it's memory of my godson who died in 1998. (though this picture got a little huge and blurry in uploading.. it's about 2x2 and on the back of my right ankle)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Nick I thought you were going with a cassette? I thought that sounded cool.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

You should get this one, Nick. I told Luna I was getting it and she believed me. Oh how I laughed.
http://www.iirg.org/~iirg/valkyrie.jpg

oops (Oops), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't believe you, moron, and that isn't the one you showed me. You're too much of a weenie to take the pain.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 12 November 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

okay, here is my bomber tattoo

Emily looks fierce in that first one!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 November 2003 01:51 (twenty-two years ago)

that is saved under filename "meanass photo' on my computer!

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 14 November 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha Tom's is done and it's enormous!! Nick, you should get a naked lady riding a dolphin, OR you should get Don Knott's face!!!

Who wants to help me decide what to put to cover the one on my tummy?

Allyzay, Friday, 14 November 2003 03:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Here's my part I

http://f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dallasdeadgirl/vwp?.dir=/Misc.&.dnm=part+I.jpg&.view=t&.done=http%3a//f1.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/dallasdeadgirl/lst%3f%26.dir=/Misc.%26.src=ph%26.view=t

it's blurry and sucks b/c it's hard to take a pic of my upper arm by myself.

We're going to lay in the color in two weeks. the heart will be purple, flames all around, the roman candle busting out of the middle will have red/blue stripes like "Figure 8" and there will be a thick green border around the whole thing.

It's not as big as I thought it would be and is not covering up my booty kanji piece like i thought i would. But so far I love it. :)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 14 November 2003 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

luna, I can't see your pic, even when I cut and paste...?

Yours is lookin' good, Sam!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

you've already all seen some of my bling.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yep. I remember the birds. They were awesome.

We need pix of Tom's scarab!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't have any birds. They are my next tatoo. I have tribals. Yeah Toms scabs.

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I like Emily's, it's pretty tight. I think I'm going to go get mine this weekend.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 November 2003 13:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have an appointment tomorrow...eep!

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 November 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

it will be good. where on yr body are you getting the work?

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 14 November 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Standard upper shoulder dealie. I'm not that worried about the pain.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 November 2003 22:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Emily, is that a 'Liberator'? If so, that's kinda odd.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 November 2003 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

or actually, kinda super cool. why that plane?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 14 November 2003 22:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm very thankful I didn't get the pinup/nose-art tattoos I wanted when I had just turned 18, and didn't get the matching Iszes (from The Maxx) when I was getting stoned constantly and watching the cartoon.

If I get another, I'm going for my family crest, and possibly Don Zimmer's face.

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Friday, 14 November 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

nick, on the upper arm part of your shoulder or shoulder blade? If former, no problem, one of the least painful spots. If latter, ouch. also if there's color that's a breeze. the black/outlines are what really fucking hurt.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Friday, 14 November 2003 23:09 (twenty-two years ago)

spencer-it is a liberator, a B-24. my grandfather flew one in WWII. it is unfinished, but soon i am getting the decals put on it to complete it.

Emilymv (Emilymv), Friday, 14 November 2003 23:12 (twenty-two years ago)

The former. I think it will be black outlines with some red.

NA (Nick A.), Friday, 14 November 2003 23:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I went and got it. It was fun. It only took like half an hour and didn't really hurt. It looks pretty cool. Pictures someday maybe, I don't have a digital camera.

NA (Nick A.), Saturday, 15 November 2003 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

yay nick! (and tom!)

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Saturday, 15 November 2003 22:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I discovered recently that an ex of mine had her Duran Duran tattoo removed, all for the silly reason that she was, um, in a long-term relationship with one of Duran Duran.

I am still vaguely considering one, but unless a design genius wants to try and work an image based on what I (think I) want, I doubt I'm going to find an extant image I like enough. All volunteers to this email address...

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 15 November 2003 23:32 (twenty-two years ago)

an inch is 2.54cm.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 15 November 2003 23:36 (twenty-two years ago)

just do it mark. all tats are you at some point, right? i don't really understand the removal thing. all of my tats are landmarks.

that said i am actively planning on covering one of mine up. I though the elliott memorial tat would do that but the final design didn't work out that way. so my artist and I began discussing tonight how we would cover up that booty-ass kanji shit I have. Actually he said I have no business thinking about it, he would, as me thinking about it is what got the crap tattoo in the first place. I don't hate it, I'm just bored of it. The characters stand for "self-integrity" but I tell people it says "east slut" as that is more interesting.

i have 3 music-realted tattoos and I think this is a good thing. I can't ever imagine regretting any of these.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Sunday, 16 November 2003 10:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Barry, get "No, I'm heterosexual actually" tattooed somewhere - think of the time and wear and tear on your vocal chords it could save!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 16 November 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm doing this on Friday. if not tonight.

I'm not saying I'm going to get that done but it's awesome.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I discovered recently that an ex of mine had her Duran Duran tattoo removed, all for the silly reason that she was, um, in a long-term relationship with one of Duran Duran.

I don't know why, but I think this is the funniest thing I have read today.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Is that a tribute to the band or the movie?

Chris B. Sure (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:19 (twenty-two years ago)

What are you thinking of getting Ally?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Very much the movie (and El Diablo's photo skills).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:36 (twenty-two years ago)

?

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Ned is implying that is yr ass, Nicole!

Sarah...my ideas are...sketchy at best...sometimes I want a bird you know but sometimes I want to get a pin up girl and sometimes I just want to put the number 13 on myself in big blocky football jersey letters but I think I will wait and put that on my arm.

Allyzay, Wednesday, 19 November 2003 19:40 (twenty-two years ago)

That is not my ass! I never thought I'd have to be issuing ass-denials.

AM NOT. I was referring to her brilliant technique of posting gremlin photos at appropriate times on the board.

I'm just trying to keep the Zach Galligan flame alive.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:01 (twenty-two years ago)

I really want a Gil Elvgren-style cowgirl. Considering how I'm getting grief via work for my latest first I'm going to have to be careful where I put stuff like that. The thigh is a good spot but I hate thigh tats. I'm just going to go ahead and half-sleeve my left arm so maybe on the underside there.

A Girl Named Sam (thatgirl), Wednesday, 19 November 2003 20:14 (twenty-two years ago)

miloauckerman (miloauckerman), Monday, 1 December 2003 01:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Being a non-believer puts you at a serious disadvantage - I love all the old-school/Chicano culture icons - the sacred heart w/ barbed-wire, the Virgin of Guadalupe, but a white agnostic getting them because they look neat borders on the offensive.

I've said fuck it and will soon start getting sleeves. I have a few tattoos already but none that are visible when I wear short sleeves. But I've always wanted sleeves and, like many things in my life, I believe I will regret not doing it much more than I will regret doing it.

The Picasso tattoo could be really cool; I'd find it much more interesting to see on somebody than most tattoos.
