This is the Thread Where I Say Pt 28: My Pimp Hand is Strong

luna (luna.c), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

:)

Remy (x Jeremy), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

yay! new thread.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, that's the one I would have gone with, too.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh, Sam is now in the fray!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

It was either that or "How about F: You're a gimp?"

luna (luna.c), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Old lady jazz? As opposed to... hot young chick jazz? WTF does that mean?

-- sunburned and snowblind (fluxion2...), March 21st, 2005.

Jazz that approaches smooth.

Huk-L, Monday, 21 March 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Oh, Sam is now in the fray

I'm hoping to stay caught up this time.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:29 (twenty years ago)

xpost - ok. I won't fight about this again. I like a lot of different types of jazz, and some of it approaches smooth, and calling something "old lady jazz" is rockist. But I'll be quiet.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

That's just my smarmy whatevery of it. I don't really think it's old lady jazz, but I call it that sometimes to get under his skin. I like old ladies, btw.
But most of the stuff I'm going to be playing is by necessity (because I have to draw from my own collection) a bit more, um, out there than listeners might be used to. But I also made a point of popping by my parents to borrow some more trad stuff from my mom (so in fact, I'm the one who'll be playing Old Lady Jazz) so as not to completely alienate the regulars.

Huk-L, Monday, 21 March 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

My nearly valid personal injustice for this week: This morning I found a msg on my voicemail at work from the Optical Shop, left Friday about 10 minutes after I left for the weekend, saying that my new glasses are ready. I gave them my home number first, and they didn't call me there. I was in the vicinity of the shop twice over the weekend, and thought about popping in to check on them, but didn't, thinking, "They said they'd call me, so I'll wait to hear from them."
There's no way I can get down there today, and tomorrow's crazy too. Damn, damn.

Huk-L, Monday, 21 March 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

hi john!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:46 (twenty years ago)

hi! i'm back in chicago!

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 21 March 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

argh, I'm telling my kids today that I'm leaving and each time I do it's like a little stab in my heart. I suck. I'm about to do it again in about 10 minutes and dreading it. This is a big class with some vulnerable kids and I feel like a complete schmuck leaving them in the middle of the year.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Sam, as much as it is wonderful that you care about/for them so much, remember: You are not responsible for them. Take care of yourself, and once you've done that, you'll be much better equipped to take on the world.

Huk-L, Monday, 21 March 2005 20:16 (twenty years ago)

Last saturday I was at a party, and there was this girl there whose hair I shaved a few weeks ago, and I realized I find her kinda interesting but also kinda scary, even though I can't exactly say why. Anyway, she asked me whether I would like to come to this night club with her and her two friends, but I had to decline (I had other plans, plus I hardly know her). Anyway, we exchanged phone numbers and she told me I need to shave her hair again once it grows a bit, because she wants a mohawk (I did a mohawk to a mutual friend a week ago, and she looked fab). I think there might be something brewing here, or maybe I'm wrong...

Why do I post to TITTWIS threads only about romantic matters nowadays?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 21 March 2005 20:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm off to make my FM JAZZ debut.

Huk-L, Monday, 21 March 2005 21:10 (twenty years ago)

luck to you. sounds like fun.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

I feel like swinging an axe. It's about goddamn time ticket scalpers started living up to their name. Fucking bastards. THEY HAVE MY J0AN J3TT TICKETS. THEY WILL ROT FOR THIS.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Can I just eat your tits and then... um... not die?

mmm... tits.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

NOT UNLESS YOU HAVE MY TICKETS, FOCKER.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

HEADACHE! I HAVE A HEADACHE!

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 21 March 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

Back off.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 00:36 (twenty years ago)

Me?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

Great conversation I heard yesterday on the train. Speaker was a fiftyish hooker (just believe me on this) and she said to her john - a limp bizkit type w. earplugs & a blond goatee -

"My mother and I, right, we got this theory of chronological ... theory of chronology if you know what I mean? Like, you start your life in the top of the Himalayas as like a giant snowball and start rolling down the hill. Each, you know, complete turn, is a day, and as you roll along and bump into shit and junk gets ripped off, you get smaller. Like your days are getting shorter and there's less time to do stuff 'cuz you're moving faster and smaller. And by the time you get to the bottom, which is when in chronological place you'd be nothing but a pile of loose snowy mess, you're basically nothing, and you're lucky if you get a single flake into a um alpine village."

The guy sitting next to her, blonde goatee: "What's the village?"

Hooker: "that's when you're dead."

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 00:53 (twenty years ago)

If you made it from the Himalayas to the Alps you'd be doing all right, I think.

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 01:06 (twenty years ago)

I want joan jett tickets.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

Joan Jett rocks! I hope you get to see her. (Aside: She's touring?)

Hey there. Semi-confidential to Pink: I did get your e-mail ages ago but haven't had the chance to response to it yet. I so sorry, hon. I so sorry.

Huck, that eyeglasses shop is SUPER-incompetent. They SO should've contacted you at home first! Even if it would've been at a time when they would've gotten an answering machine. At least the message would've been there on the machine for you to listen to when you got home.

(BTW, I'm really beginning to miss wearing eyeglasses again. I wonder if it'd damage my eyes any if I went and got me some off-the-shelf reading glasses, partly so I can get back to wearing glasses again.)

Anyway, I'm going to go off and pant for a bit while I throw open the windows of my bedroom. Or turn on a fan. Yeah. I think I'll go with turning on my ceiling fan. It'll mean less noise.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 02:47 (twenty years ago)

i was visiting redhotpawn.com and read the tab as uncutpawn.com.

hello all. i have been looking forward to moving for MONTHS now and they've pushed the date back yet again...it's a new building and bureaucracy blahblah. sigh.

and hello all.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 03:19 (twenty years ago)

You'll never guess who was the sponsor of the second hour of the jazz show I was filling in on? THE EYEGLASSES PLACE!
So, I'm going to get them after work tomorrow. I'm starting to get worried that I made the wrong choice. Like maybe they were women's glasses? They said "That wall is unisex." But, like, maybe there were some kids in there earlier and they were dicking around..."Heh, heh, let's put the ladies' glasses in the unisex section and then hang around in the parking lot for 7 to 10 business days and see if a dude comes out looking like a chick."

Fucking kids.

Also, I got one call during my fill-in. It was from this guy who always calls during my regular show to ask me why I don't play more popular stuff. He asked if I had moved timeslots, and I told him not to worry, he can still harass me on Wednesdays just fine.
And the show after the jazz show is a latin american show, and the guy came in and kept talking about how much he "lubbed t'e yazz" I was playing. He was really sweet.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 04:42 (twenty years ago)

Semi-confidential to Pink: I did get your e-mail ages ago but haven't had the chance to response to it yet. I so sorry, hon. I so sorry.
Ah that's cool, I wasn't sure if you'd got it & if you had whether you were ok! *hugs*

Sorry to hear about the moving date being postponed Julia, that sucks! How is everything else?

Sam - it must be sucking leaving the kids that you care for, but try to think of your own health & wellbeing. Best of luck.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Hey a new thread! Hi people. I hope everyone's well. It's spring and I hate my thesis!

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Hey Sarah! Is the thesis not going well? Or is it just not going?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Hi Pink! Well, it has ceased to be fun, and is very close to ceasing to be interesting at all. I'm just losing motivation and confidence and am tired of justifying the degree to myself, and I have a big deadline(s) coming up. I hope I can work through it.

Am I wrong for thinking that Remy's hooker was kind of on to something with that analogy up there?

sgs (sgs), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I liked it! I'm sure you can work through it Sarah, you're probably experiencing a down period. it will pass!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Am I wrong for thinking that Remy's hooker was kind of on to something with that analogy up there?

Except that snowballs get larger as they roll downhill, not smaller. So... um... time for a new analogy, I think.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:28 (twenty years ago)

Life is like a thesis... starts out fun and interesting and you learn a lot but somewhere along the line you lose motivation and confidence and the deadlines start to seem kind of impossible...

(sorry sgs!)

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

Life is like an uncut penis. It seems smooth and uniform at first, but when things get interesting, it reveals its true nature.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

I really wish I could unpost that.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 15:59 (twenty years ago)

haha!

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:18 (twenty years ago)

It's spring. I hate everything.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Atta girl.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Some spring: http://users.accesscomm.ca/saskweather/stationwebcam.htm

Huk-L, Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Aww Luna, even the little lambs & spring chicks?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh sure they're cute now, but in 6 months, they're going to be all ugly and grown up and people will EAT THEIR FACES OFF.

So yes, them too.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

B-b-but I wont! *sniff*

I'd totally love one of those gentically deficient kitten that stay as kittens all of their life, I mean, can you imagine how great that would be?!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

It would be awfully cute...

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

Except no! I'd hate it! Grrr.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

It totally would Luna, don't resist!! you know what part 28 was lacking? I'm thinking....

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

No! No kittens!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

(I sound like an angry two year old. No kittens! Not THAT juice! NOOOOOOO!)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Spring is nice, but the mold is KICKING. MY. ASS. The inside of my head itches! GAAAAH! Make it stop, mommy! Make it stop!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Is that what it is? I've had a killer migraine since I woke up.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

No! No kittens!

*cries*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Luna, read some Calvin & Hobbes. That always works for me (except then I start pining for rolling, wooded bits of America I've never even been to - though I guess the Berkshires comes close).

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

On that Sask webcam, it says I have a 94% chance of a hummer! Word!

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I've already read all the Calvin & Hobbes in the world. Anyway, I'm at work, and it wouldn't help. I have a migraine, I'm hungry, and I am in a BAD. MOOD.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:25 (twenty years ago)

And the next person who tells me I should take a bubble bath because it will help forfeits the right to retain all of their vital body parts.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Try M0trin Cold and Sinus. It's the best. Regular ibuprofin doesn't help sinus and allergy headaches.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

I have excedrine migraine, too - that's usually good, but this morning it's just not working.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

I could murder a bubble bath, though that would presumably mean clearing the orange and grey moulds from out of the bathtub. I'll do it over the weekend.

How about comfort eating?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

No, migraines make me want to throw up.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

Mojito, then?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

Puppies?

My best friend's stepmom is a fucking bitchzilla. I want to fuck her shit up.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

Never mind about the puppies.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

"That TEWN was simply mahr-velous!"

Marian McPartland lived in my suburban LI town growing up, she played with our HS jazz band while I was there as a fundraiser. I traded 4's with her. One of the cooler things I've ever done I must say, even if I'd only been playing for about 2 years at the time and had no business on a stage with her.

She was unreal.

Ash (ashbyman), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

That's pretty awesome!

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to get my new glasses soon! Very soon!
I'm nervous.

My girlfriend and I finished moving into the new apartment last night. Now the real hell starts - unpacking!

Tantrum (Tantrum The Cat), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

No, the real hell is moving. Unpacking is fun by comparison.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:20 (twenty years ago)

I like the elliptical shapes this year!

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

try packing. that's hell. I've moved my move up from Sat. till Sun to save $$ and also give me another day. I have nothing packed.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

i'm very good at packing. it's like my secret superpower. but i'm sick of doing it. i have too many books.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

This is an utterly insignificant complaint, but I just had to (almost lethally) wound an eight year old in my script. And it's not like this is a surprise. It's been in the cards since the pitch outline. But I've gotten to feel so attached to him that it actually took me the better part of an hour to make up my mind to write the scene where he's hurt. And twenty finger-shaking minutes. I'm such a big wimp. It's essential for the story, but even in the fake-lives of my characters I feel like a horribly wrathful & malevolent god for what I've done.

The next scene I have to write is the one where his mother discovers him half-buried underneath a rotten treestump and all of the detritus held in the root-tendrils. Sigh.

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

So it's a comedy?

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Romance.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Apropos of absolutely nothing, and apologies for those who were already aware, but I have just learned there's a Firefox plug in that allows for the spell checking of internet text boxes just like the one at the bottom of this here page (if you don't use Firefox...you should).

It's called Spellbound and from what I can see, it works quite well. You have do install the spell check utility and the dictionaries as separate xpi's, but the result is a "Check Spelling" option in your right click menu whenever you are in a text box. Pretty sweet.

Ash (ashbyman), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Note that a spell checker will not help you with errors such as replacing with "to" with "do"...due to idiocy.

Ash (ashbyman), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:34 (twenty years ago)

awesome. thnks.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

But I need something that will help me with idiocy!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

idiocee.

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

keep it real!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

word, yo.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 22 March 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

Whilst packing just now (read: throwing stuff away) I found a brand-new bottle of Ativan. I haven't felt this happy all week!

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 01:16 (twenty years ago)

Wow Huck, your new glasses are going to look so damn good on you. Their shape really compliments your facial shape and features. Please take a picture of you in them!

Sam, congrats on that discovery! I personally believe that that's just God's way of trying to tell you that He's looking out for you, but you are more than welcome to choose to believe differently. Which I'm pretty sure you will.

Pink, I'm... I'm doing okayish, thanks. I'll have to wait until I have some time to explain further all the madness. I really wish you had AIM, though. You and I could keep up with each other and everything!

I'm so sorry for that delay, J. (Hey, that rhymed!) Um, how is that going to affect, well, you know? You are more than welcome to confidentally tell me if you consider it Top Secret.

I need to go. I need to type up an update for my LJ and I've only got thirty more minutes in which to be awake before I'll have let yet another night slip past without an update. Ta!

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

Hmm... judgement call for y'all:

I worked for six years (age 13 - 20) at a very upscale privately-owned coffee-shop in Rhode Island. Lots of weird stuff happened. Our clients were governers and visiting celebrities, politicians of every variety, and more than a few known mobsters. The bosses had been under federal watch for various RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organization) charges, and I know that they were basically hanging-out for the better part of a decade running an inconspicuous coffee-shop and I presume front for other activities. They were nice guys. I used to do weird shit for them all the time: drive cars from state to state and return during a single 8-hour shift, clean out trashed houses, mow their lawns, all sorts of seemingly legitimate but questionable nonsense. Only trouble was that most of my paychecks bounced. I worked under the table, got paid in cash / personal checks, and had a tremendous amount of trust from the owners. Bank runs all the time. You know, really sincere part of the business. Anyhoo... after one particular bounced check they got mad at me for trying to claim my money. I'd quit the week before, and I don't think they had any intention of giving it to me. But I stuck around and got it, with the threat never to set foot on the business again. Two years later the building burned down under 'mysterious' circumstances. The guys disappeared off the face of the map five years ago and just yesterday on a whim I put their names into google. Feeling nostalgic, wondering how they were.

They came up with an ad in a fairly large newspaper looking for employees on a new sca-- err, job. Should I call just to chat with them? Except for the end bit, with the not-getting-a-check, I remember them very fondly. Do you think I should fake a job interest until I get them on the phone and reveal myself? I'm 3000 miles & one legal name-change away now, so it might be fun...

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 07:46 (twenty years ago)

But you got the money!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

"You've got the brawn and I've got the brains -- let's make lots of MONEY!" Sorry. That song popped up in my Eternally Filled Pit O' Earworms. :)

Remy, that is quite a story! Wow! I don't know what you should really do, but I'm guessing that Chris P will have the best idea of what to do.

Oh yeah, and me go sleepypoo. Nite-nite!

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 08:14 (twenty years ago)

I'm sleepy and drunk and eating tacos. I have three nights left as a Dallass resident to go to Sh!ps. WTF???

arhg.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Pink, I'm... I'm doing okayish, thanks. I'll have to wait until I have some time to explain further all the madness. I really wish you had AIM, though. You and I could keep up with each other and everything!

AIM isn't the problem Dee, I have that, it's the time difference as I don't have interweb access at home! argh!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 09:34 (twenty years ago)

Remy, I think you need to un-immerse yourself from writing drama and contemplate the wisdom of taunting mobsters.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 10:49 (twenty years ago)

I just bought the Office DVD box set. So excited. Fairly cheap too, $46. with two day shipping. I wonder how the american version will be, looking forward to it tomorrow night. (not really)

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

I had no idea the world had become such a hideous place. But, I must admit, I look damn good. I'll see about getting some photos.
But seriously...the world, ugly!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

I just made a hilarious joke about the 1994 Provincial Budget that went waaaaaay over the intern's head.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

or maybe it just wasn't funny... ;)

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

Awesome, Chris. How's it goin'?

So, I said I'd be a regular again, but then had the flu for a while. But now I'm back and in full effect!

I'm still curious about the American office despite bad reviews. The previews have been pretty funny.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

I just rented Series One of the Office. Can I watch it all before the American one debuts so that I can sneer with hipster contempt at it?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

i read some decent reviews on the american office...we'll see. I'll watch.

Its going, still trying to make babies.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't ordinarily link a blog entry, but this started as a post on this thread and got out of hand, so I thought I'd put it back where it came from.

The guy next door is fucking crazy.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

I'm making two different marinades for pork chops tonight. I can't wait. I should start a band called the Porky Chops.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

jeanne you just gave me my new nickname. im porky and i have mutton chops.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

I've been at work for two hours and have had several conversations with several people, and nobody's mentioned my glasses. I think they're all afraid to, because they're not sure if I've had them for a while and they're only noticing them now or what.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

i just tried to pop out a piece of gum from one of those funky new packages and the fucking thing shot out and hit me in the eye.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

You should sue them. Then all gum packages will come with safety warnings, and will be all the cooler.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

I've already have too many lawsuits on my hands. well one actually.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Did you ever sit around feeling like you might have to got #2, but you're on yr unpaid lunchbreak so you figure you might as well until yr back on the clock, because, really, my shits are so good I deserve to be paid for them?

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

That was a Seinfeld episode, Huk-L!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

That was my life!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

I have Brandy (You're a fine girl) by Looking Glass stuck in my head.

Please help me. I may start singing the backing vocals at any moment.

Ash (ashbyman), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

I finished all my work for the day at 10:30 this morning, and I've been reading Stylus since, so now I have "If I Was a Rich Girl" stuck in my head.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Huck, if you were a rich girl, you could poop whenever you wanted. Imagine the luxury.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Girls don't poop!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

especially rich girls

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

That's what those little tiny purse dogs are for!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

I'm making two different marinades for pork chops tonight

Do tell. We can compare receipes.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Huck, if you were a rich girl, you could poop whenever you wanted.

You could also rely on the old man's money.

I really do listen to things other than late 70s AM cheese...sometimes.

Ash (ashbyman), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

But that's a great song. Not quite as great as "Sara Smile" or "She's Gone," but pretty great.

I'm so happeee. I got a new iMac G5 at work. This is a lovely, lovely piece of machinery.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Pineapple/soy sauce/ginger/scallions is one marinade. The other is salt/oil/all spice. The first one gets stir fried with strips of pork. The second gets slathered on whole chops and broiled.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

I desperately wish we used Macs at work, it will never ever happen.

As for Hall and Oates, my childhood lined up perfectly with the Out of Touch/Method of Modern Love era, so I am more attached to those than I would be otherwise.

Ash (ashbyman), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

I started a LiveJournal, y'all.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

OMG that icon. You're the cutest boy in the whole wide world.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

it's japanese, duh.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 23 March 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

You know how sometimes there are things in your life that need to be changed in order for other things in your life to happen, and you haven't changed them and haven't changed them and haven't changed them and then all of a sudden because the time is finally right you do change them? Why is it at that moment that you find out that the other things that were going to happen after you changed your things have changed?

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

I know you're trying to be vague, but is there any way in which you could be a teeny bit less vague? And by 'things' do you mean 'people?'

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:23 (twenty years ago)

Not trying to be vague - just high. I can't explain it more clesrly really. But yes, things mean people... ish.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:26 (twenty years ago)

Hm. Is this like a grass/greener scenario, or is it a too-late scenario?

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

It appears to be too late.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

"Nobody snuggles with Max Power, you just strap yourself in and feel the Gs" (Accompanying pelvic thrusts)

I love the simpsons.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

I was supposed to work on an article tonight... instead I googled pictures of people I haven't seen for ten plus years. And I saved them if they'd aged more poorly than I had in /remy/personal/images/internet_photos/people_uglier_than_me/

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

I can see how one might derive satisfaction from that.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:52 (twenty years ago)

Remy, does your brain work under Linux?

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:55 (twenty years ago)

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

Shit sucks sometimes.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 07:59 (twenty years ago)

:(

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

About a year ago I was going to propose that instead of taking the time to type xpost, one could just type ../ and save the effort of two keystrokes. But I figured I'd get teased.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

You know how sometimes there are things in your life that need to be changed in order for other things in your life to happen, and you haven't changed them and haven't changed them and haven't changed them and then all of a sudden because the time is finally right you do change them? Why is it at that moment that you find out that the other things that were going to happen after you changed your things have changed?

I always worry that the moment I get my shit together will be the moment my life starts to suck beyond all reason. It's almost superstitious. I think somehow that if I just keep fucking around, everything will be alright.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

I mean for FUCK'S sake.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

I am all nearly-weepy-for-no-real-reason right now. Bah. Today felt like a dumb day.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

Well now I am weepy and you know, fuck. Fuckity fuck fucking fuck.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:11 (twenty years ago)

Aww... kittens...

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't know how to make anybody feel better. Dumb animated gifs?

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

Homer renamd himself because of a tv show that portrayed a character named Homer Simpson as a doofus. So he changed his name to Max POwer

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Gotcha.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:34 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what's with timing these days, because so many people right now are so messed up in so many ways. Life is being a bitter bitch right now just because -- well -- I don't know. Maybe because we're not willing to accept our limitations or something? Like -- I don't know exactly where I'm going with this "praise" journal I've got going. I barely have enough time to update my REGULAR LJ and now I have to think of something that I want to share in detail because it's impacted my life in a positive way? I mean, not that nothing positive happens in my life; Tons of positive things DO. It's just... why am I doing this again? Oh yeah, that's right -- it was an assignment, a challenge given me by that damned Voice of Reason of mine. (VOR, I kid.) And -- yeah.

It's just that sometimes I feel like I'm kidding myself. Should I accept my limitations and move on? Should I stop from fighting as hard as I am to turn fate's tide around and just accept what comes? I... I don't know. I do know that right now I'm feeling like an empty vessel. An empty vessel that is nodding off every minute or so, right here on my computer chair, sitting upright. So I need to go. Let's hope the future's a kinder maiden for all of us.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:41 (twenty years ago)

It's spring!

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 08:44 (twenty years ago)

I went to bed 45 minutes ago and it didn't take. Now I'm up, and exhausted.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 09:09 (twenty years ago)

I got some pics in my email from the nuns in Puerto Rico where my dog came from. Here he is as a puppy...about 4 months before we adopted him.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 24 March 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

cuteness! I have heard about other dogs adopted from puerto rico...street puppies?

I had a dream about my (sadly, no-longer) dogs again last night.

yes they are called Satos. http://www.saveasato.org/

thats where we got George.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Thursday, 24 March 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

OMG WHAT A CUTE LITTLE PUPPY! I WANT TO KISS ITS FACE OFF! AWWWWW. ITTLE LITTLE BABY!!

*ahem* Anyway. Yeah, it's spring! Yeah! Ha. Me go off and have long day now.

Surreal Addiction (Dee the Lurker), Thursday, 24 March 2005 12:56 (twenty years ago)

Chris, that puppy is so cute, holy cow. What's his personality like??

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 24 March 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

He's so cute, I bet his little puppy poops smell like fresh baked bread!

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

And his fresh baked bread smells like poop!

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:13 (twenty years ago)

All you ever do is flip what I say, and somehow everyone thinks you're "smart."

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh Goodness my cuteness!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

That's because you always say things backwards! You're like Bizarro-Huk.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 18:57 (twenty years ago)

Pineapple/soy sauce/ginger/scallions is one marinade.

Hmmm. I'm not a fan of the cooked pineapple but I get the general drift. We use soy, ginger, sesame oil, shallots which is really just a variation on the soy, lime, ginger, garlic marinade for flank steak. My gf is fond of the allspice but it's not my fav. I also sometimes like to just marinate the chork pops in just lemon, olive oil, and herbes de provence depending on what veg I'm serving with.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:20 (twenty years ago)

You're not a fan of the cooked pineapple???
God, man, what's wrong with you???
One of my favourite things to do is grill fresh pineapple on the bbq, and then eat them, of course. So that's two of my favourite things to do.
I need a life.

Afternoon.

I didn't have to come in to work until noon and I've hardly done anything since I've gotten here anyway! YAY!

John, I like your new livejournal. It makes me want to totally abandon Diaryland, which I've been updating since 2000 I think, and totally leaving my LittleMe project behind, and just Livejournaling my main stuff all the time. I mean, it's just... it's just so much better. Also, I'm glad your home today resting up because I might be going to your show tonight and I want you to play your best.

K, I'm scared of your neighbor too.

Hello all around. FEeling better today, luna?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

Bizarro is awexome. And the script marked "SCRIPT" in huge letters falling off the table is a nice touch.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm like 5 minutes from being done my work for the week, BUT since this is Thursday and not Friday, I have to be here for another hour. Which is moronic.
Also, there's some drama going w/r/t to the local folk music community and they're trying to drag me into it and I'm like, "FUCK."
I'm considered sympathetic, even though I'm really just courteous. And, frankly, that courtesy stems mostly out of contempt. I'm a vile man.
And nobody's said anything about my glasses. What a bunch of a-holes. AND there's a card going around because a co-worker's SISTER had a baby, so it's like "Congratulations on becoming an aunt!" Like she had any say in the matter! GET REAL CHICAGO.
And somehow, I've never ever rec'd a card here!

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

But once I do finally leave, I've got a 30 minute bus ride where I can listen to the new Howling Hex!

Huk-L, Thursday, 24 March 2005 19:59 (twenty years ago)

feeling sort of stupid and melodramatic today, Sarah.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

It's ok, luna. There, there. I'm high on cold medecine and caffeine, so I'm all loopy. Too bad you can't come hang out with me at my desk to bitch because hardly anyone is here, including a boss, and it's too quiet. I might fall asleep (despite all this caffeine - it's that bad).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 24 March 2005 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I admit it, I have no interest in going to work today.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 24 March 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

(yawn!) I'm sleepy too, Sarah. I couldn't sleep all night last night. And I've got a ton of work to do today, but keeping my eyes open is abouyt as much as I can manage.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 24 March 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

So, Huk, are you obsessed with Royal Trux like Nick? Because I was reading your post on the blog and thought it was his, but it was yours, right?

And Chris, cute pup.

Hi, Remy. I couldn't sleep either. I had all these nightmares inspired by watching too much 24 season 3.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Thursday, 24 March 2005 21:03 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, this is President David Palmer. Million of American lives are counting on you.

I don't care how many commrecials he does, how many FOX dramas he stars in, that is Pedro Serrano from Major League.

"aaaahhh, Hay-ZOOS. Like him very much...but he no help with curveball"

"Are you saying Jesus Christ can't hit a curveball?!!?!?!?"

Ash (ashbyman), Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

That was such a great movie.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 24 March 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Underrated in its subtle brilliance yes.

Haysbert was one of the only Major League stars (Corbin "will sing the LA Law theme song for food" Bernsen being the other) to be in both Major League sequels. For those unaware of the existence of Major League 3, it starred Scott Bakula and Ted McGinley, nuff said. I feel like it was a long sad decade and change between Major League and 24 for ol' Dennis.

If I ran Hollywood, and I clearly should, I would found a movie franchise where the ensemble cast members from wacky 80's comedies (Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds, the John Cusack Trilogy) banded together to form an elite counterterrorism unit. I can't decide if Corbin Bernsen would be a hero or a villain.

Ash (ashbyman), Thursday, 24 March 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

He's too big a weenie to make a good hero. He'd maybe be some kind of minor evil... the diet coke of evil, if you will.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

What did Diet Coke ever do to you?

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 25 March 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

Amen sistah.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 18:46 (twenty years ago)

The law school show I played guitar for took place during Purim one year. At one cast party a large group of us did a spontaneous dramatic reading of the story of Purim, colored heavily by large amounts of alcohol.

I challenge any of you to tell a lamer party story than that.

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 25 March 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

You win.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Hahahahaha.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 25 March 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Dag yo. Why you gots ta be like that?

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 25 March 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Dammit. This flat of mine is pretty well soundproofed, but I am just two storeys above a pub, and I think that is what I am hearing now. It's not loud, but it is enough that I can tell that there is karaoke happening, often with very out of tune singing. Perhaps I need something louder in the flat than this dreary Girl With A Pearl Earring film...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 March 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I went to the COUNTRYSIDE today! I really, really should do it more often. More pheasants than I could even *want* to shoot, hang and eat, mmmmm...

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Awww, baby, I'm sorry - it's just that... I can't top that.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

None more lame.

I can't complain, lawyers, and law students, are just inherently lame people. I participated in a game of "I Never" at a law school party once. Any game of I Never which features me as the "cool, drinks a lot kid" is a sad and regrettable affair.

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

The last game of 'I Never' that I played involved one of the main participants being forevermore referred to as 'she's the girl that likes to lick ass, right?'

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

(And no, it wasn't me)

luna (luna.c), Friday, 25 March 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

(Although you do, right?)

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 25 March 2005 23:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm doing research for a new script assignment. And I realied today that any healthy, red-blooded, and masturbatorilly active American male at the age of 15 spills enough semen on the floor during the course of a single summer to easily repopulate the entire planet.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, if the floor is paved with ova.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:15 (twenty years ago)

And if he just keeps ejaculating on the floor, which is surely not universal.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:20 (twenty years ago)

Well, I've populated a lot of socks.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 March 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

(No, I don't) (Not usually)

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

What is "I never"? Is it like truth & a lie?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Saturday, 26 March 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

It's more like 'I'm going to think of something outrageous, and if anyone in the group has done it, they have to drink'

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

'mornin, luna.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

SHIT! I thought I had tomorrow free to write, but back in December I signed up to volunteer gaff for some retarded AFI/IFP/indie-ish film called 'Acc3pted Si1ence.' No compensation or nuffin. No advance warning. That is - until twenty minutes ago when I got a check-up phone call. Because it's absolutely fucking logical for some producing cocksucker to call me at five minutes before midnight to ask if I'm still intending on lighting his broke-ass shit in the morning. Goddamnit!

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:12 (twenty years ago)

Fuck an Acc3pted Si1ence. It's bad grammar. It should be 'Acceptable Silence' but this is Indie film, so they can't afford a shitsucking Strunk & White.

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

:/ How's everything on that end?

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:15 (twenty years ago)

Remy, you look like you have the flu...

(night all)

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:28 (twenty years ago)

Sweet dreams.

If worse comes to worse, give them my cell # and tell them that's how they can reach you - in the morning when you don't show up and they call, I'll answer and say "oh sorry no, he's a little ... tied up..."

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:30 (twenty years ago)

I should really get more sleep, shouldn't I?

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 08:43 (twenty years ago)

Have we played 'I Never...' on ILX yet? Or on this thread?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 March 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

No! And we're not going to, Martin. You'd end up with alcohol poisoning, for a start.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 26 March 2005 13:50 (twenty years ago)

Not if I am sitting at home with orange squash, as I am now.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 March 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Half the fun of 'I Never' is watching reactions from people and then taunting them when they drink. I don't know that it would cross over to text so well...

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Also, anal sex is unavoidable.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 26 March 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps you'd like me to rephrase that.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 26 March 2005 19:09 (twenty years ago)

No no.

luna (luna.c), Saturday, 26 March 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

No, that is my experience of life too. Or were we still talking about that game?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 26 March 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Once you go back, you'll never go, uh. Hm.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 26 March 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Chicago types: I have a layover from, like, 8am to 3pm, somesuch, on Thursday, on my cross-country train trek. Anyone want to meet up?

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 27 March 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

The last time I played I Never I was a freshman in college. I wouldn't feel so relaxed about playing it again now. Did anyone ever play silent football? It's like truth or dare...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Sunday, 27 March 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

I bought a Henny Youngman jokebook. A lot of it doesn't make any sense. I'm thinking of just reading from it at my gig this Thursday. Maybe dressing up like him too. It's gonna be a hipster crowd, so it might go over really, really well.

Huk-L, Monday, 28 March 2005 13:35 (twenty years ago)

Good morning to you all.

Huk, I guess I'm not a hipster, because I've never heard of Henny Youngman..?? Explain yourself.

I can't talk this morning, but I have to anyway because I'm the receptionist. I sound a bit like a demon.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Henny Youngman made famous "Take my wife...please!"
He's an ancient comedian, insanely corny and schlocky and all that. I thought the hipsters would dig it because each generation of hipsters seems to think they invented irony.

And hey, I thought about you this weekend, Sarah, when I saw this in the paper:

Boxcar Betty beats odds:Survives 13 days sealed in rail car

She doesn't have a green card, but Boxcar Betty evaded authorities and rode the rails from Chicago to Regina and will soon have a home.

At the moment, the scrawny illegal alien resides in isolation at the Regina Humane Society.

"We got a call about 4:30 (Thursday) morning from a CP employee saying that she had come out of a sealed container from Chicago and they say that there's no way she could have gotten in other than at Chicago," said Gail MacMillan of the Humane Society.

"They wanted to keep her until morning because they were having so much fun with her, but then about 5:15 we got a call saying, 'Help, she's having babies.' "

Dolan Lemond, a conductor, found the domestic short-hair orange tabby when the train stopped at Canadian Pacific's Regina yard.

"I was on the last car and heard a cat meow," he said Thursday. "I thought it was a brake on a car because it whines, so I got off and walked around the car a couple of times and looked underneath. We opened up the doors and out came the cat. It had a kitten right in the cab of our engine and then she had two more inside the station."

Lemond used his Swiss Army knife to cut the first umbilical cord.

"I'm a city kid so I'm not very good at this stuff," he said. "We went into the station and she gave birth to another one and another guy walked in and he doesn't have a very good stomach so he started the dry heaves. He went right into the bathroom and then she had two more."

The five premature kittens did not survive. Lemond believes that the cat was locked into the rail car on March 11 at 9 a.m.

"I have a hunch that she was malnourished to start with, but she is wonderful -- she is such a sweet cat," MacMillan said.

Lemond hopes to adopt Boxcar Betty, but whether she retains her name will be his wife's decision.

"They said they had to keep her for a couple of days, but we will be the first people they call and I'm sure we'll take her," Lemond said.

The cat has no tattoo, licence or collar to identify her.

"Our policy is going to be the same as with all stray animals that come into the shelter," MacMillan said. "We have to hold her for four days for an owner to have the chance to come and claim her -- and that's obviously not going to happen and then at that time we'll decide when we're going to put her up for adoption."

The three-year-old will be checked by a vet, vaccinated and fattened up before she's available for adoption.

Currently the Humane Society has 55 cats.

"Adoptions have been incredibly slow," MacMillan said. "The animals are sitting here and waiting and waiting. Even with a lower population it's serious. We have about 20 dogs available for adoption -- some wonderful small breeds and normally they go the same day they come up for adoption, but because people haven't been coming out they're still sitting here."

The Humane Society is open for viewing and adoption from noon to 5 p.m. today and Sunday.

Huk-L, Monday, 28 March 2005 13:47 (twenty years ago)

The cat has no tattoo... to identify her. Those crazy big city cats with their tattoos...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 28 March 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

"I'll take a small piece of summa that funky stuff..." That's in my head. Just that line. Damnit.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

I just wanted to add that I fell in love yesterday. It's a love I guess I have had for a long time, but didn't realize until now. All hail Mitsou.

Huk-L, Monday, 28 March 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Who or what is Mitsou? Some sort of small dog, I would guess from the name.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 28 March 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

She's a Quebecois pop star. She had a big pop hit called "Bye Bye Mon Cowboy" around '89 and was briefly considered Canada's answer to Madonna. She's in Denys Arcand's The Barbarian Invasions, and, as I discovered yesterday, is the host of a CBC Newsworld program about franco-cdn culture. And she's beautiful.

The shirt I'm wearing today has mesh sleeves. Long sleeves. I'm really into the mesh thing lately. This could be worse than the resurgence of synthesizers. I LOVE MESH CLOTHING. I ADMIT IT.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

And, you can use it to catch fish!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L, Tuesday, 29 March 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Are we talking SEXY MESH?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

So let's assume that I might be too busy to check in before I leave: I am off on a train trip across country. I'll see you in a few days. Have margaritas ready on the other side. (If you drink them all before I arrive I will find it impossible to blame you.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I wouldn't call it sexy mesh but it's not polyester gym-clothing mesh. It's nice mesh. But now that I look at myself, this top kind of looks like maternity clothing.

Goddamnit all.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 29 March 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I don't recall ever having seen maternity clothing with anything mesh, so clearly you are fine. (No really, fine).

Anyway, it's better than unlubed fisting.

I've got a comedy gig tonight and my hero might be dead. Should I just do a bunch of his jokes, or should I just do the jokes I ripped off from him?

Huk-L, Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

Which hero, Huk-L?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Yay it's pay day, boo it's all gone!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

I got paid a week ago. Tonight, before my gig, I'm taking all the coins I've amassed over the last three months and getting a PS2 and some hellishly violent games.

Huk-L, Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys.

I had a fucking terrible Easter, and am actually glad to be back at work. And I didn't even get a single egg!

I just spent the first £2.50 of my pay on a fizzy bath bomb for Matt, as I am such a good wife-in-waiting.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:41 (twenty years ago)

i had a boring easter. boring is good, in my family. sorry to hear that yours sucked, archel.

i'm hanging out at my parents' for a bit now, staying here til friday for a change of scenery. they're on business trips, so i have quiet and a full fridge and a nice big tv.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Boring would have more typical. Boring would have been good. (There was a full fridge but unfortunately it was full OF CRAP.)

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 31 March 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

yay! Everyone's back on the thread!

My Easter was uneventful and very un-Easter like. I didn't even buy any candy, because I've been feeling sick for a long time now. Grrr.

Have fun with that, Huk. Nick dreams about killing people for points because he's played PS2 so much.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Aw Archel, what happened (if you can say)? I tried to AIM you earlier, but you logged off :(

aw, i love this thread.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:21 (twenty years ago)

I never smacked into a wall, I have suffered numerous injuries from "Crowd surfing moron on my head disease."

I was at some festival show or another when I was in school I think it wasa the lollapalooza with Rancid, and I was two or three feet away from a kid crowd surfing when everyone just sort of...dropped him. On his way down he lashed out with all the fear and adrenaline of someone who apparently thought he was going to die, and grabbed my arm. I had a bruise for a month, one of those ones that starts red and eventually fades to purple.

Ash (ashbyman), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

I have been that kid, many times. But I also took it regularly in the face and chest and neck, so I feel I earned the right to kick strangers' heads in.

(NB I haven't done this for over a decade)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Everyone used to climb up my back to crowd surf because I'm nice and tall like that, so I would go home from shows with footprints on the back of my shirt. I didn't give them special permission or anything. They'd just come running up to my back.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:39 (twenty years ago)

I think I only crowd surfed twice in my life. It was a lot of fun, and I would have done it more often except that I always had tons of junk in my pockets at shows because I hated carrying a bag. I was worried that my keys or money would fall out.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 31 March 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

Is anyone else scared about TITTWIS turning 30?

No. No I'm not.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:53 (twenty years ago)

B-but we don't have any kids yet! And our careers aren't figured out!

I wouldn't mind some gray hairs though. Nick's are cuuuuuutttee.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

(NB: I'm almost 33)

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:55 (twenty years ago)

I always forget how old I am, so I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm 27 now, just so's you know.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 31 March 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

30 seems a little scary, but I can tell you without a doubt (and not just because I have to say this, being on the wrong side of 30), my 30s have been a helluva lot better than my 20s.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

when people ask how old i am, i always want to say 28. and then i stop and realize that no, in fact, i am 30.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Most of this year when I've been asked, I've wanted to say 33.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 31 March 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Hi everyone. I'm here at work with no AIM or MSN and I probably shouldn't be posting to this thing but I don't care today. Email me at the address I have here if you like, but if you don't want to it's ok. I hope you're all well.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

This was the year I officially entered my "late 20s." (That would be 27.) I am eagerly awaiting my 30s because it can't possibly be as sexless and solitary as my 20s. And also because maybe I'll actually look a little older than 17.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Hi Bryan! Good luck with the Junos!

Huk-L, Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

I turn 30 in July! The general consensus seems to be that 30s fucking rock, I'm not too worried about it. I get that same thing too Jeanne, since I moved and am meeting lots of new people, they always ask, did you just graduate from college? Which is nice I guess, except on days like this when I'm totally broken out like a teenager and I think that's the only reason they think I'm young. :(

teeny (teeny), Thursday, 31 March 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Huk (I guess). I won't be attending the Junos as only about half of the tickets were made publically available, they sold out in 16 minutes, were $60 or some shit, and I don't give a crap anyway. I'm still betting Neil Young (just about the only performer I would've liked to have seen) won't show. I might go down there on Sunday to see what I can see but I mostly don't care. I'm mostly glad it's going to be warmish (+9 C or 48 F) and sunny on Sunday so we won't have to listen to people whine about the lousy weather here.

Bryan (Bryan), Thursday, 31 March 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Glad to hear about the weather. I'm a little gunshy about it after declaring Spring officially here back in Feb when the mercury hit -20 C.
I've got two yrs left until 30, and I have this sinking feeling that by that time, consensus will have shifted back to "Your 20s are when things are really great."

Huk-L, Thursday, 31 March 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

My brother just got offered free front-row tickets to the 3agl3s concert tonight. He asked if I wanted to go with him. I told him I have a reputation to uphold and would not tarnish it by going to see the fucking 3agl3s.

Just to say: I was making salsa and mincing habanero peppers. I came back in here and wiped my nose and eye before I washed my hand and now they sting, incredibly, like pepper.

Remy Ulysses Fitzgerald (x Jeremy), Friday, 1 April 2005 05:01 (twenty years ago)

Pepper-choppin' hands and genitals don't mix, either.

Morning everyone! What happened to this thread mid-week? Were we all having a breather?

I have not had a constructive week at work. I've not had a lot to do, which gave me the perfect opportunity to be proactive (and there are things where I really need to be) and I did fuck all. How can I get myself psyched for next week?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, Markelby. I made the same mistake at work twice. This company called me when I first started here and said that we had an account with them for toner and the price was about to go up, but we still had 3 toners left there at the old price. They just needed my confirmation signature. This was just routine, and so on... Then I got a call saying the same thing but it was for only 1 toner. I said, "Um, I thought you were sending three?" "No, no," they said, "Only the one." And I said, "Great, because we don't really need that many."

Ok - BIG mistake: We don't have an account with them. 3 toners show up with an invoice for well over $1000. It turns out we get toner for FREE from the company that does maintanence on our copier. DOH! But fortunately, my boss figured I was duped and I'm new, so our accountant bitched them out until they let us return the toners and get a refund.

BUT - then another toner showed up yesterday. It turns out that the second call I got was from another company doing the SAME fucking scam. So I got fooled TWICE. Now I've called the number of this invoice and left a message, but I don't know if anyone will call back. I had to tell the accountant and she was obviously really pissed and shocked that I would do that TWICE. ay ay ay

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:27 (twenty years ago)

Aw Sarah, that does suck. But once they've got over their mood, they'll realise that it's just as logical to get done on scam #2 as scam #1 - more so, as you were doubly confused. Just don't do it again :)

Having said that, I do have 17 leftover toners from last year's stock at low low prices, and your MD said I should ask you to sign off - can I get that autograph and I'll be on my way?

Markelby (Mark C), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Also, since I'm on a roll bitching it up here, the show that I played last night was pretty dumb.

ALSO, my nose looks really bad because I've been sick for so long - it's scabby and the dried skin looks like dried snot. NOOO!!!!

Ok, I think I'm done now. I'm just tired.

x-post: Thanks, Markelby. I know they'll forget about it eventually, but I try so hard to be a good little worker bee!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

THe show I played last night was pretty dumb too. The guy told me to show up around 8. The show didn't get started until 10:30 and I was the only one on the bill who wasn't, um, a complete wanker. So naturally, I was told I had to go on first. Which was good, because I left before the flute and bass improv group really starting sucking.
And everybody talked through my set.

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Remember when I told you folks how I hit the back of my head on the wall headbanging? Well, I hit the front of my head on a window ledge last night while bending over to pick up the trash.

I completely fucking give up.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

xpost. ha ha I said what Huk said: But Jeanne, that should balance things out and make it all better, right?

Sorry about that, Huk. Yeah, the acts we played with were dumb too. And nothing quite kills your mood than having to wait around forever to perform.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:04 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and I went to rent my PS2 for my non-stop weekend of debauched violence, and they were out, so I had to get an Xbox and non-venal games.

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

That's too bad, Huk. You should just save up and buy one. I'm sure you'd get your money's worth.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, except then I'd want to play it all the time and, um, my writing "career" would suffer. And I'm sure that as soon as I actually buy it, a new and better one will come out and I'll feel like a turd.

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Do you remember when this thread used to stay up top all the time? How's everyone's afternoons?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:43 (twenty years ago)

JEANNE PLS AIM ME

teeny (teeny), Friday, 1 April 2005 18:56 (twenty years ago)

Passing notes, are we?

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Dude, she's just got teh horn.

Hooker for hire (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:12 (twenty years ago)

Pepper-choppin' hands and genitals don't mix, either.

Please listen to Mark on this point.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I've got "Daft Punk Is Playing At My House, My House" in my brain.

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Huk, you and Nick must share a brain. It freaks me out sometimes.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

LiveJournals aren't brains, Sarah.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 April 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

I just wait for Nick's approval before declaring I like anything.

Huk-L, Friday, 1 April 2005 20:01 (twenty years ago)

The thing is, I don't really like that song as much as most of the other LCD Soundsystem songs. It's a good song but those ringing artificial harmonics over some of the verse parts really annoy the hell out of me.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 1 April 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

But you'll admit it gets stuck in your head all the time, right?

Man oh man am I ever bored. I haven't had ANY work to do since lunchtime, which is pretty cool, but also it makes the afternoon draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, I got burned by that toner thing once before, too. Send that shit back and tell them it was sent to you fraudulently and you refuse to pay for it.

luna's e, Friday, 1 April 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

That's the plan, Stan. Nonsurprisingly, they didn't return my call. Wait, is nonsurprisingly a word?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

it's a perfectly cromulent wordthing.

There you go.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

I need some new music. Any (ahem) direct-connecters here?

Remy Ulysses Fitzgerald (x Jeremy), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Just compulsively need to paste this somewhere...

Jean Améry, in his book On Suicide: a Discourse on Voluntary Death (originally published in German in 1976), provides a moving insight into the suicidal mind. He argues forcefully and almost romantically that suicide represents the ultimate freedom of humanity, attempting to justify the act with phrases such as "we only arrive at ourselves in a freely chosen death", lamenting the "ridiculously everyday life and its alienation". He killed himself in 1978.

Girolamo Savonarola, Friday, 1 April 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

I need some new music. Any (ahem) direct-connecters here?

Right as I read that line, the Beach Boys crooned "add some music to your day" in my headphones.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 1 April 2005 21:16 (twenty years ago)

Remy, are you on the ILX hub thing? Or would you like some tunes emailed to you? I know you are a hip young person and I am old and English and all that, but I might have some things that would appeal.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 April 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

would you consider emailing something? dc's being bugged by my firewall and I'm not up to fixing it now. Thx muchly!

Remy Ulysses Fitzgerald (x Jeremy), Friday, 1 April 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

Give me a clue as to what you want - I've no idea what you like or already have.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 1 April 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

Good morning. It will get up to 67 degrees today!! :-D (in Chicago)

Also, I'm excited about seeing the Shins soon and MIA/LCD Soundsystem next month. :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

I had my first fitting for my bridesmaid dress. (My best friend is getting married.) My boobs were squished into what I refer to as "muffin tops." Not pancakes, but muffin tops. But I like the dress and I feel like a pretty person in it. So I'm glad. I just hope I'm not PMS for the wedding otherwise my pretty-person feelings will turn into giant-scary-monster feelings.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 4 April 2005 13:25 (twenty years ago)

Jeanne, that's a brilliant way of putting it. I know exactly what you mean. About boobs.

I got an email about my morning suit for my mate's wedding at which I'm an usher. I think this means we're legally bound to make out, Jeanne. I have been instructed to wear a shirt that makes me look neither like a snooker player nor an 18th century dandy, which seems rather a shame, really.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 4 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

You need to ignore your friend and show up as as a dandy snooker player. It's all about the ruffles.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:01 (twenty years ago)

Greetings.
I have emerged from a weeked where I did almost nothing except sit on my ass and play Xbox.
I did go to the grocery store and to the libary and hang out with my dad (wtf???), but many I held back the Sith Invasion.

Huk-L, Monday, 4 April 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

Yay, Huk. I spent a really long time yesterday afternoon just hanging out in the backyard in the sun drinking Stella. Oh, it's a good life.

It was really hot in my office and my boss suggested I prop the front door open, so now I'm enjoying the beautiful day even more.

(Sorry if anyone is in a grumpy mood today - you probably want to kill me in all my joyfulness)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:29 (twenty years ago)

I wanted to revive this thread earlier, but I couldn't find it! :-(
I'm going to glastonbury, i thought you should know!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I had a great weekend.
I saw Sin City, hung out with my closest friend for a day and got milkshakes and onion rings, and went for a hike, and worked on painting a room, got freckled
And I met someone
!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Woo! He/she is a very lucky guy/chix0r. Have you got a date lined up?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Pink, I have this thread bookmarked. :-D What's in glastonbury?

And yay, jocelyn! I barely remember what it was like "meeting someone," but I was feeling awfully mushy all weekend. It's springtime.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I was so mushy this weekend. I think I said hello to every random dog I saw.
He came along with my friend when we went to see Sin City. Friend is going to see today if he's interested...he certainly acted interested at the movie. (I think. I'm bad at judging.)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 4 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

yippee! *clapping hands*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 4 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Sorry Luna, I shouldn't be fatuous. What's up hon?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 4 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I'm just upset about something I was told a few months ago that I thought I had straightened out, only to find today that many more people knew about it than I was originally told and it's just really really frustrating.

It'll blow over.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 April 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

C'mon Luna, let's go fuck shit up.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 4 April 2005 16:26 (twenty years ago)

DON'T DO IT LUNA!

I know Kryptonite when I see it!

Huk-L, Monday, 4 April 2005 18:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, luna. I drank enough alcohol for both of us this weekend. Well, maybe not, because I have such a low tolerance. I'm going to a book club tomorrow night for the first time at a bar, but my bf said I have to promise not to drink if I drive there because I'm such a lightweight. NOOOO!!!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Damnit, Huck, SHUT UP. Don't you know the quickest way to get a girl to like you is to give her candies??? Sheeeeesh.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I am not superman, therefore kryptonite can eat my fuc.

Jeanne, I kiss you. With tongue.

Ooooh sour tongue kissin'. HAWT.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:37 (twenty years ago)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

JuliaA (j_bdules), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:41 (twenty years ago)

Well played, Jeanne.

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 4 April 2005 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Entertaining euphimisms for dirty sex I've heard so far this week:

Saying the Rosary

Watching CSPAN2

Grilling Tuna

Ash (ashbyman), Monday, 4 April 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

The newest I've heard are as follows:

- Burping the worm in the mole hole
- Carnal gymnastics
- Crashing the custard truck
- Growling at the badger
- Knocking mops; and
- Windsurfing on Mount Baldy.

I have weird friends.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 4 April 2005 20:21 (twenty years ago)

Burping the worm in the mole hole has GOT to be the TTiTWiS title #30!

Yes, but Max got to wear a wolf suit! And be the king of all the wild things (after he tamed them with the magic trick of staring into all their yellow eyes without! blinking! once! And when that whiny bitch got home, his dinner was still hot!

Max can take a big bite out of a cold shit sandwich, for all I care.

yay! that means many people rate me highly.

()ops (()()ps), Monday, 4 April 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

Chris V, what time do you get off work in the week? We're working on a trip to a baseball game and we were wondering if you were around if you fancied coming too. It'd probably be at the New Britain Rock Cats stadium. Provisionally interested?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 4 April 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

I went to sleep when I got home 'cos I've had a migraine this afternoon, and I dreamt that my pregnant sister (due any day) was there and that I had to kneel down, pat her stomach and tell the baby that it was time to hurry up and be born.

It was very... odd.

luna's e, Tuesday, 5 April 2005 03:34 (twenty years ago)

mark, im out of work for the time being so i am home all damn day. when are you in mass again?

and no jeanne it was not code for making babies! but im glad you posted that it made me spit beer on my pc. ;)

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 11:58 (twenty years ago)

oh and the only thing is i can't drive....my knee is preventing that at the moment.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Why do I come in to work so early? I've been here about 30 minutes, but I have only HAD to be here for the last 7!

In better news, it's another pretty day. Plus, I went on another Targe shopping spree last night and I'm wearing my new necklace and brought my new purse today.

Are you sure you didn't just make those up, luna? Also, I hope today has been much better than yesterday for you.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Chris, if we do go the New Britain for a Rock Cats game it is v likely to be an evening game on 5th May. I guess there's no convenient public transport you'd be able to get? Worcester is just a bit too far out of our way, as we're going to be spending the daytime in the state parks and forest of west CT :(

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 13:24 (twenty years ago)

The day someone comes up with a SEXY euphemism for having sex is the day I ... I uh... well, that'll be the day, damnit.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 15:23 (twenty years ago)

Since it's too early for cocktails here, I'll go for a mimosa.... yeah.

Also, should any of you be trying to AIM me, it's a little screwy this morning 'cos we're having computer problems.

I just had a small argument with the guy at Quizno's about a free beverage. I had to explain three times that it didn't matter to me that it was free, I just didn't want it. And when he finally understood, he got a hurt look on his face, like I'd just told him that he was ugly.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to a bar tonight, but shouldn't drink because I'm driving. B-but I can have a gin & tonic when I get home. Mmmm... Nice and springlike what with the lime juice and all.

Oh Luna, you are good. Very good.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:43 (twenty years ago)

Okie ... here's an easy dilemma:

I'm in this EMBARRASSINGLY STUPID early film-history class. There's not a single film we're watching I haven't already seen, and the professor teaches using - exclusively - powerpoint demonstrations. I'm taking it to fill a side credit, but most of the students are MA / PHD candidates for critical studies programs and - at teh age of 25 - 35 are fascinated talking about the Odessa Step Sequence and the racist implications of Birth of A Nation. This is beyond old-hat and sophomoric for me (and for anybody who's written professionally on film / taken a single film-history class) and I can't force myself even to feign an interest. Since the class is large - 40 students - we're expected to post to a discussion board every week. I've been slacking lately, missing most weeks because I find it depressing and demeaning to have to answer high-school style masturbatory prompts about Metropolis or Sunrise among people with no real insight into the works e.g.

One only has to see a few minutes of the film before the expressionist use of perspective and angles is apparent. For example, early in the film when the couple renting a room to the Woman from the City (WftC) are eating their breakfasts, the shot is composed so that there is a lamp hanging quite askew in the extreme foreground, with the roof rafters leading the eye back to the small figure of the WftC standing in a doorway in the background. The carnival scenes were also very reminiscent of the carnival from Caligari for me--the layer-upon-layer of action and the wild angles created by forms in the background.

So my question is this: do I just not answer the questions and take the grade penalty? If it's going to make me miserable, shouldn't I just skip the assignment? I'm not being snobby about this, but I do feel a little above this kind of bullshit. No?

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:45 (twenty years ago)

Here. Have a kitten.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

kitten & boobs!

Remy (x Jeremy), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:57 (twenty years ago)

yeah, it's a potent combo. See? Film class ain't so bad.

sunburned and snowblind (kenan), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 17:59 (twenty years ago)

Assuming you're paying for the class yourself, I'd go ahead and answer the questions, even if they are annoying. What's the point in spending a lot of money on a class and not try your best? (um, that's what I would think if I were in your shoes..)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, dude, it may be boring but at least it's easy. Just grit your teeth and go for the easy A.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 5 April 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

Sam,
wherever you are I hope Austin is treating you good!

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Okay. I went to class and it was every bit as painful as I imagined. Umm... my plan for the rest of the night.

1) In sixteen minutes take my grapenut pudding out of the oven
2) I take a shower while it cools from nigh-volcanic temperatures
3) Dry off, eat the bread pudding and drink my new bottle of wine
4) Sleep until late tomorrow morning and ignore work. Not even bother calling in sick. Just don't show until somebody catches up with me.

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Sam,
wherever you are I hope Austin is treating you good!

Just wanted to agree with Orbit here! Hope you can check in soon Sam!!

So then, are we still have cocktails in here or what? If so I want a white russian please with added chocolate flakes on top, ok?!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 09:22 (twenty years ago)

I never did end up having any alcohol last night, but I did have a mocha shake, some Coke, and some chocolate candy. MMM!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Hi! The weather's got nice so I've perked up. Now all I have to do is, um, some work.

I am consuming cherry juice by the litre right now. It's just the most delicious thing ever. I don't even want to contemplate what kind of heavenly cocktails I could make with it. Actually, I do - any suggestions? It's not tart cherry juice, just very very delicious, tangy, sweet cherry juice. Rum maybe?

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Try vanilla stoli. mmm...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Um, I need some sun...

What are you working on, Arch?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

Ah Sarah, unfortunately a) I don't have a porch b) I don't have a laptop c) it's not nice weather here and d) I'm at work anyway. Otherwise... :)

Course, I shouldn't be writing at work. I should be working. But anyway, it's just a couple of new poems. One of which seems to be DOA sadly.

Nice pic by the way! Your hair looks very lustrous!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

I have to take my Xbox back tomorrow. I don't know what I'm going to do. My life has become so much more streamlined with it. Alas, alack.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

i've worked in an office with a water cooler for a couple of years now and i've never seen anyone talking around it - EVER. it is a myth. nor have i ever drunk from it - people fill up bottles that they've had their mouths all round and this makes me feel a bit queasy. i don't like the idea of sharing fluids with anyone here.

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

We get free bottled water at my work. :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

But do their bottles actually touch the dispenser, not just the water stream?

xpost

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

We get free bottled water at my work. :-D

oh la-di-da. i suppose they're served to you on demand by french-speaking dwarves carrying silver platters, too?

and yeah, they jam them right up to the nozzle, which is a bit grotty when everyone's got colds and stuff.

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

nozzle really is the best word in the english language. if anyone can top it, i'll take the dwarves' place.

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

Great pic sarah!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Stelfox, we have THREE different types of bottled water to chose from and free soda too - and coffee of course. Yes, I am high and mighty. I get to order the drinks and stock the fridge.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:36 (twenty years ago)

At my last job, we just had this horrible water fountain that smelled of mold. The stream was so pathetic, one would have to practically make out with it to get any water. I saw people do this ALL THE TIME.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

now that's real power - holding the keys to the fridge. i bet everyone is super-nice to you.

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Yup.

Man, I'm staaaarrrrvvvvingggggg, but it's still almost 2 hours until lunchtime.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:47 (twenty years ago)

That's it. I'm eating my PBH.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

just so as you know how great my career is, i am editing a piece headlined "win your dream shed"

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

nozzle really is the best word in the english language. if anyone can top it, i'll take the dwarves' place.

'Kazoo'.

I defy you to disagree with me.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

Also, how much editing could a piece entitled 'win your dream shed' actually NEED?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

cooter

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

Damn. Okay, cooter and kazoo both are clearly much better words than nozzle.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

Jeanne and Luna, I had a dream about you last night. I forget what it was about but I was wearing hot pants.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Well it sounds good SO far, but what were *we* wearing?

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I think I already had my dream shed. When I was little, we got a new shed made to look like a baby version of our house. It had a loft inside it for storage (yay sleepovers), electricity, and a front porch. Basically, it was a playhouse, but I'm pretty sure the main structure would normally be bought as a shed.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

nozzle is waaaaay better than either of yours.
sheds are more complicated than you'd think.
i actually want one.

TEENY, DO NOT BE A COCK TEASE.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

ahem, back to topic, please - sheds, nozzles... oh hell forget it!

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

I'm sorry, but you're wrong, stelfox - nozzle is clearly an inferior word.

However, I forgive you.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

no no, nozzle is better. i mean it has not one, not one n a half, but TWO z's.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm... I have this vision of the perfect word, but I don't know what it is... Let's see... It would have to have a CH sound and a T and maybe an L and a K sound and maybe an S... Scotch?

stelfox, Wednesday, 6 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Nuzzle is much better than nozzle, esp. in the context of boobs, and esp. in the context of Jeanne and Luna's boobs, and esp. around the time they start complimenting each other's boobs.

I was, of course, being facetious, Luna as I'm sure you know. They do this not from malevolence but from sheer unimitgated organically farmed idiocy.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:11 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I know you were, but honestly, it wouldn't have surprised me at all.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

What wouldn't have surprised you? That some deranged consultant decided to use Nazi style productivity inducements.

"Increase your output by 7 % and we'll let you urinate. By 15% and you won't have to shit yourself at your desk should the need to poo arise. You see, we are qvite reasonable."

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 6 April 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Thursday, 7 April 2005 11:42 (twenty years ago)

So a shot in the ass turned you gay? Woah.

(unless you mean a different kind of shot in the ass)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

Queer Street sounds like a new police TV drama starring gay detectives. I mean, there's that one with the blind guy, so...

I'm feeling grumpy this morning. It's chilly out again. I had to bust back out my winter coat. :-(

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

My computer at work can't handle the iLX search function, so I'll just put it here instead of the Public Restroom Etiquette thread: Is the groaning REALLY necessary? I mean, it's not like you're having a baby... Ok, that's enough about that.

Sorry for being crude. I'm tired and cold and ... and.. .and whiney.

Dee, you know we loves ya!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 12:34 (twenty years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

I can talk about ass for hours! But I'm not going to. Other than to say my ass is decent for a 31-year-old male who cycles. And I'm about to buy some tight cycling shorts.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

And yeah, please change your screen name Dee. Positive visualisation dude! *hugs*

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

I have an oddly shaped ass. It's kind of long(?) so I feel like it's too big, but other times I feel like it's non-existant. In summary, I think it's dumpy looking.

You need some new friends, obv. Or your old ones back. You can't just go around not having your ass appreciated.

Hm... dreaming about ex-girlfriends, c/d? It wasn't a sexy dream, thank goodness, because having sexy dreams about an ex girlfriend while sleeping next to your current girlfriend is just too weird. But I was visiting Cindy. It was the present day. We were friendly. We had lunch. She told me all about getting her degree in theology. It was nice. I guess I kinda miss her, ten years later.

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

Haha Archel :)

So, it's 23 degrees in Canada and it's supposed to be fucking MINUS 2 AND SNOWING at some point tomorrow here in London. How does that work???

Sarah I pick my bike up on Saturday! We can have a bike bore conversation if you like :) What are you getting? What are you getting it for?

Maybe *we* should come up with a new name for Dee - she's so polite that she'd have to accept it! Maybe something about her beautiful smile and twinkling eyes. Or her open, generous heart. Or to do with the fact that she voted democrat AND explained why (maybe my favourite post on ILX).

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

A very good idea.

Matt had constant dreams about wedding disasters last night. Which I regard as promising since it might make him get off his (very nice) ass and organise the stuff he's meant to be organising.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 7 April 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

I've seen Matt's ass.

xposts: I don't have sexy, or even pleasant, dreams about exes, but I do dream about them. It's always about some awkward social situation. Like, I had one last week in which my family and Nick all had to go stay at my exboyfriend's house to go to his wedding - and I had to share a room with him. Blech.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:00 (twenty years ago)

I want to get an old cruiser, Bear (hee hee, does anyone ever call you that?), mostly just because it's fun to ride when it's nice out.

Hey, we've earned every single one of those Centigrades. CF: Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March.

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

I was emailing this one ex for a little while kind of recently, but he kept asking for my phone number and I felt weird about talking to him on the phone, so I stopped emailing.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I was actually thinking about this kind of thing yesterday. Breaking up sucks tremendously (how obvious is it that *I* was always the one to get broken up with??) in part because it feels so final, like you will never even be friends ever again. And that seems nuts. Whenever I miss an ex-, I don't miss them AS my significant other, but just as a person in my life.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Wait, I should have said that whenever I miss an ex- MANY YEARS LATER, I miss them as a friend, not a S.O.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

I am still friends with two of my exes and am able to appreciate their fine personality traits a whole lot more now that I am not emotionally involved with them. It took a while though.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

I miss them as a friend, not a S.O.

Yeah, same here. She's a nice, smart girl.

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Yes, or to laugh about that one time that such-and-such happened, and no one else thought it was funny but "you two". I never know what to say to exes, so I just end up cutting off contact, not maliciously but just because there's a lot of dead air.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

That does it. My mother is now officially junk mail. She just forwards messages to everyone in the world all day long. I got three this morning alone, each one stupider than the last. And what's worse, sometimes they're dirty jokes. DIRTY JOKES. FROM MY MOTHER. I CANNOT DEAL WITH THAT.

I hope you don't work at a skatepark, Archel.

Huk-L, Thursday, 7 April 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I tried the irate reply once, but she was horribly offended. So I backpedaled and explained, no, I didn't mean it like that, and of course your emails are charming, and not at all idiotic or annoying. And then she went right back to forwarding me every joke, virus hoax, and dumb-ass online game she could get her hands on.

Then I have to decide if I want to copy each page individually or take the binding off and have to go through the hell of threading the pages back through. That's what I decided to do this time (the latter). ugh.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

But surely the time saved by copying a stack of paper all at once outweighs the time spent rethreading?

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 7 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Sarah - rip off the spiral binding, copy it, then rebind it with those metal fasteners that are really easy to put on and take off. These things:

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:14 (twenty years ago)

Here I am - now what are we talking about? Butts? I have one.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:40 (twenty years ago)

You have THE ONE.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

OMG, Luna's butt is Neo. TEH MATRIX IS IN YOUR ASS!!!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

these people (I'm in class using wi-fi to not pay attention).

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Stelfox, your belt is appalling.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:45 (twenty years ago)

jealous!

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:47 (twenty years ago)

Luna's butt is everywhere. It is all around us. Even now...in this very room. You can see it when you look out your window, or when you turn on your television. You can feel it when you go to work, when you go to church, when you pay your taxes. It is the ass that has been pulled over your eyes....to blind you from the truth.

I apologize, I could not resist.

Ash (ashbyman), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

You should be sorry - that was terrible.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 7 April 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

Having just caught up on two days of this thread, I would like to point out that Teeny's dream featuring Luna and Jeanne never got detailed. This is obviously highly important.

On less substantial matters, I came home yesterday to find I had no electricity. Phone calls. Waiting. Engineers from suppliers gave me most of my power back at 9, but no sockets (except the spare one that goes with the cooker). That circuit was the problem, and was an internal matter. Call a private electrician. He comes and takes all my sockets apart and fiddles with things, then realises he needs better detection equipment, so will return the next morning. This morning he returns and traces the problem, then discovers he can't actually fix it. I've been to work (had to take half a day as leave), and he's here again now - should be finished in half an hour or so. I'm powering the PC temporarily from two extension leads to that cooker socket.

I was already in my worst depression in a few months. All this has made me very, very much worse, really miserable - and it's costing me a small fortune. I am now relieved that my planned holiday in Rome this month didn't happen, as I'd be pretty broke if I'd had to pay for that too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Martin, someone just emailed me this link with the subject line, "This will take away all your pain." Maybe it'll help you, too.

Yeah, threading it through was the obvious choice, but it was still a pain in the membrane.

BUTT NEWS:

JENNA BUSH IN DIRTY DISCO DANCE

April 7, 2005 -- VIDEOTAPE of Jenna Bush in very high spirits at a bachelorette party is being sold and could end up on national TV by the end of the week. Luckily for Jenna, the cameraman missed "the high point . . . Jenna on all fours doing 'the butt dance' — and doing it very well — as guys were ogling her thong," said our source. Club patrons do the suggestive dance when the deejay plays the 1988 hit "Da Butt," by E.U. The president's blond daughter arrived at NerveAna, a '90s-themed lounge on Varick Street, at 10:30 p.m. last Friday with several other pretty young things in a battered old blue minivan. Sources said it was Jenna's third visit to the club, which features replicas of Monica Lewinsky's blue dress and O.J. Simpson's white Bronco. Jenna, who plans to teach school in D.C. next fall, wore jeans, moccasin boots and a midriff-baring, satiny blue top. She lit up a cigarette "and she was very polite when she was told she'd have to go outside to smoke," said our source. Before leaving at 3:30 a.m., Jenna and her pals gamely joined a conga line and danced around the club.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I've waited all my life to see such footage! Seriously, do you think being part of her Secret Service detail would be fun or just suck major ass?

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

I'm sooooo suddenly depressed by a meeting I just had, in which my script was compared (unfavorably) to a recent and terrible fanboy vampire script currently in circulation. My script is (admittedly in incomplete 2nd draft) a children's sports drama and doesn't bear ANY FUCKING RELATIONSHIP TO A.K.'S BLOOD AND JIZZ VAMPIRE MOVIE, AND FUCK YOU FOR SAYING OTHERWISE. I don't even want to look at it, now. Mope. So sad. A cute girl smiled at me and I almost gnashed my teeth back at her.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:47 (twenty years ago)

Then I sliced her face off and am currently wearing it.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:49 (twenty years ago)

His awful script sounds like a rip-off of those awful Laurell K. Hamilton novels. You should tell them that.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:50 (twenty years ago)

Aw man, if a cute girl can't cheer you up...

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 7 April 2005 17:51 (twenty years ago)

More cheering up necessary:

thanks for kindnesses. More cheering up necessary, because this is my worst day ever:

Message on my voice-mail

"Hi [my name] -- it's Mom. I'm calling to make sure you remember to pick up your sister at the airport tomorrow" (No, Mom, I'd forgotten she was flying thousands of miles to see me for the first time in fivemonths!) "we need to tell you to be careful with her health. She had a doctor's appointment yesterday and was diagnosed as - probably - having a tumor in her uterus. She doesn't want you to know, but it might impact her ability to move around a lot. Also - I'm sending a hundred dollars you can spend on meals and entertainment. Please don't tell her I told you about this. Bye, honey!"

yet another logged out, Friday, 8 April 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

Oh no that's awful. I'm not sure who you are, but good thoughts are on the way. It was a pretty harsh way for your mum to tell you, but perhaps she didn't really think it through properly. I'm sure she just had your sister's best intentions at heart. With regards to your sister, "diagnosed as - probably - having a tumor in her uterus" surely isn't concise enough. Will your sister tell you about this when she gets there, so that you can discuss it in more detail? I wish I could help more & my email is always open if you need to, but in the mean time good thoughts are on their way to you & your family. *virtualhugs*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 8 April 2005 07:38 (twenty years ago)

I hope your sister is feeling better, I know (from experience) that reproductive problems are hard to diagnose and difficult to talk to people about. My sympathies for your situation.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

That's horrible, logged out, but maybe your mom's heads up will help you be calmer/stronger for your sister when she does tell you herself.

I'm so glad it's Friday (and sunny again!). I went to a fancy pants breakfast place in my hood to get a slice of banana walnut bread. Then I got to work and a coworker said that I've lost more weight and my jeans are sagging. Duh, hasn't she ever heard of sportin' a sag? It's all the rage.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:30 (twenty years ago)

stelfox, Friday, 8 April 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, so I have a date tonight with guy I met last weekend. I'm excited. I also have to go to the dentist to get my teeth cleaned today, which I am not excited about.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 12:53 (twenty years ago)

Stelfox, I could have sworn I've seen a pic of you on ILX before... hmm... post one. I dare you.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

you look great in the one upthread, so really don't have anything to worry about. as a rule, i think i look ok. i just always end up looking like i have special needs when a camera is pointed at me.

stelfox, Friday, 8 April 2005 13:22 (twenty years ago)

You are human and you need to be loved.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

I have special needs, like I need to get doses of chocolate on the hour.

I look really blurry up above. I think part of the reason I think I look much better without my glasses is that I can't see myself when I'm not wearing them.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:31 (twenty years ago)

what are these threads about? i never understood, and still dont. k thx plz.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Greg, post that pic with your tongue out again!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:37 (twenty years ago)

My co-worker keeps trying to befriend me in really forward ways. The first week I was here, he asked me to help him move, which is a strange thing to do to someone who you've known for three days. Yesterday he was a bit nicer, but still weird -- he had an extra ticket to see Mustard Plug, and wanted to invite me. As if I would just be like, "Sure! I think we get along plenty well enough to start doing things together socially!" I don't ever talk to this person, despite the fact that he sits 10 feet away from me. One of the main reasons I never talk to him is that once I say a word to him, I can't get him to shut up. He just talks and talks. I've encountered this behavior before in old people who live alone. He's clearly lonely. But how can that by my problem?

Also... I'd rather spend the evening in physical pain than see Mustard Plug.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

what are these threads about?

blog entries that are too stupid to put on your blog.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

oh ok.

as for tongue poking pic: er, no. it's around here somewhere.
i'd suggest googling "gregkitten tongue poking" but i'm scared as to what other pics you might find (hohoho etc)

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:41 (twenty years ago)

I should start copying and pasting my posts on this thread though, because they are exactly like my blog!

What is Mustard Plug? It sounds vaguely sexual and gross.

One of my coworkers is always trying really hard to get everyone to hang out with her outside of work. She has a handicapped brother-in-law that she and her husband care for at least every other weekend, which zaps up a lot of her time. First she invited people for drinks, but hardly anyone showed (and that's when I had the flu). But then she invited me to her book club, which I went to Tuesday and will actually join! So that's fun.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

That pic always makes me smile, g-kit.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 13:44 (twenty years ago)

I didn't even wear a jacket this morning.
I might wear shorts tomorrow.
Today I feel like doing no work at all. I took my XBox back last night, and now I know how parents feel when their children leave home.

Huk-L, Friday, 8 April 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

logged out, I hope everything turns out well for your visit, but also for your sister. I know how scary things like this can be.

Sarah, you look beautiful.

Stelfox, the belt is ap-pall-ing. Appalling.

Kenan, I have a co-worker to hook up with your co-worker. People are weird.

In other news, my sister is in labor as we speak, and I should be an even prouder auntie of a wee girl at some point during the day. When last I spoke to my sister (about 2 am, local time) her only comments were "FUCK! THE LITTLE BITCH WON'T COME OUT!"

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, Huk.

I know how you feel, Jeanne. It's all about layering. I actually preffered it at the beginning of the week when they didn't have the AC on and my boss let me leave the front door open all day.

x-post - What a happy day, luna! Congrats! Were you already an Aunt?

Saw that coming.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:14 (twenty years ago)

Luna, has your niece been born yet? Will they C-section 'cause your sis has been in there for at least 8 hours, I figure. How long do they wait before ratcheting up a notch obstetrically speaking, anyhow?

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:16 (twenty years ago)

No she hasn't (that I'm aware of), and it really depends on the mother/baby situation. 8 hours is rarely long enough - but it depends on 8 hours of WHAT. 8 hours of labor, no, but they'd never let you get to 8 hours of pushing. My sister is a baby machine, though, so she'll squeeze the kid out in fine shape - when I last spoke to her, she wasn't fully dialated yet, so pushing had not yet commenced.

And oops, please stop trying to ruin my baby euphoria with your cocksucking, thank you.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

(The perfect chance to use 'cocksuckery' and I blew it fucked it up didn't use it). (Dammit).

I totally want babies so I can buy them cute things. I was in Target the other day and they had a onesies sale. There was this huge rack full of onesies in every cute color and pattern - for only $2 /each! I was like Ohmygod I'm gonna have the cutest baby in town! but I don't have a baby so...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

Laurie (my boss) told me this morning that Jay (the stupid attorney/suffers from a napoleon complex/office manager)wants to hire some woman at the same amount of money that I make to replace Jay's assistant who is leaving. Not only does she have no experience (which means I get to train her on top of my already really busy workload), but Laurie also said that she told Jay he can't pay this chick the same or more than me, and he said well you monopolize Aimee, and she said no, other people use her too, and anyway she doesn't do that much for me (um, WHAT? YES I DO) and he said oh well, then maybe she's not working hard enough! I have worked my ASS OFF for this company for FOURTEEN LONG AND SOUL SUCKING YEARS.

If I can verify that they hire this inexperienced woman at the same
money I make, and I do not get a substantial raise, I will quit that
same day. I AM SUFFOCATING UNDER THE SHEER JACKASSERY OF IT ALL.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I HAVE FOUR FUCKING CAVITIES!

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

Okay Luna, the gloves are OFF.

FUCK
THAT

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:17 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I don't really know what to say about your work situation, and since you work at a law firm probably no chance of a discrimination/fair pay suit?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

So yeah, what Jeanne said.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Mustard Plug? What is this, 1996?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

oh man, the cavities situation sucks, jocelyn. i haven't been to the dentist in five years...

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn, that's why I don't go to the dentist any more. (um, actually, because I'm wussy and know I will have to get old fillings drilled and refilled... the USual for me)

Luna, That SUSUUUUKCKCKCCKKKS!
My replacement at one job was hired at a higher salary than I made working there after 2 years. My boss (the realtor) said, "It sure is going to be expensive to replace you - you wouldn't believe what kind of money everyone is asking for!!?"
Also, I can totally sympathize about being monopolized. I do a hell of a lot of work for this one lady and everyone is annoyed with her taking up so much of my time. But if she sees me doing anything that's not for her she says, "You look bored. Let's get you something to do."

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

I'm not even being monopolized by her - everyone in this place asks me to do work because of the fucking stupid and moronic policy of hiring people with no goddamned experience!

I. Am. So. Fucking. Angry.

Most, not all, Ash, you know I love you desperately, but MOST lawyers can just go eat a bag of dicks.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I had had perfect teeth with no cavities and then didn't get them cleaned for 3 years because I had no money to do so because of my dumbass ex, and now I have cavities. I shall name one "Duncan."

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Luna, can you talk to Laurie at all?

If so, tell her that:

After 14 years you expect to be appreciated for your loyalty and hard work. One sign of such respect would be to not hire a new employee at a salary which it took you 14 years to acquire or, if that is the going rate to re-evaluate what you are being paid so as to make it commensurate with what the market will support. If they are not prepared to do so, you too can apply at another firm where new hires are courted more assiduously than faithful old stalwarts.

If you're serious about quitting over this, let them know in advance what your position is. It's professional and 'pro-active' and should you have to follow through, it will sound very competent and businesslike to a new employer.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

There is no point in talking to Laurie - she has no decision making power.

The going rate for this job in Los Angeles is about $20-30k more than I make here.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 17:41 (twenty years ago)

Quit.

This isn't a difficult set of facts love. You know god damn well you can make more money elsewhere, you have stayed only out of comfort and out of loyalty, they have just showed you no respect, and that, to me, invalidates any claim they have to your loyalty.

Quit. Get another job ASAP at more money and tell them if they want to keep you that they'll need to go 50% over the new salary you've been offered, and they'll have to crawl on their knees.

It is not OK for your employer to work you like a slave and take you for granted. I stayed too long at my first job out of loyalty, they took me out of NYU and trained me, gave me good experience and etc., but they practically never made me feel appreciated, and were out and out disrepectful to me in my last review. I had the good fortune of going into said review with an offer for more money in my pocket that I was about 90% sure I was going to take anyway. I only regret not quitting on the spot. I waited a day.

You don't have to take it Luna, I don't want you to. Move on from there, its more than time.

(Lawyers do, in fact, suck. Each and every one of us)

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:07 (twenty years ago)

ash is otm, I was not being paid what I was worth at my last job and I shouldn't have taken it for as long as I did.

teeny (teeny), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:11 (twenty years ago)

They take you for granted possibly more than any one or any thing has been taken for granted ever. You've spent far too much time being overworked and underpaid/appreciated. Quit. Other employers would jump at the chance of hiring you.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I think I'm going to go into Laurie's office and tell her that if they hire this woman at the same salary I make or more, that I will leave that same day.

Fuck, I don't know.

I really want to walk out right now.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:14 (twenty years ago)

Ash is correct. I don't think it's enough if they hire someone at the same salary as you. You deserve a friggin raise. A big one. But I think you should tell them to get lost.

I feel bad that you're upset. Therefore, I think we should make out.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:19 (twenty years ago)

I wish I had friends like that...

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:25 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I don't think you should quit without first demanding a raise and seeing how they react.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:30 (twenty years ago)

If you did get the raise, you could just start working on getting a different job but not have to worry about money while you're searching.

yeah. a BIG one.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

I think they just hired her.

I just told Laurie that if they did, and she makes the same as I do, that I quit. The end.

Today might be my last day!

Are you 'at will', Luna? If not, keep your cool and give them two weeks notice. Don't allow their asshattery make you do something you might later regret.

M. White (Miguelito), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:44 (twenty years ago)

because I had no money to do so because of my dumbass ex

I don't get this?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:45 (twenty years ago)

I can use this advice myself, guys. Thanks.

If it makes you feel any better Luna, and it probably won't, I'm in pretty much the same boat. I do work that is never appreciated for money that amounts to charity. The only reason I'm still here is because I thought I might get the chance to lay out the magazine, and gain some valuable experience. That all fell apart this morning, I think. My boss found out he would have to (gasp!) buy some new software. And that's that. Doesn't matter that every magazine in the world that's worth two cents has in-house design. Doesn't matter that it would streamline the process immensely. Doesn't matter that I desperately want to do it, and that his current designer is more than willing to train me. He's not shelling out the money for the software, period.

Jessa is at the end of her rope, listening to me bitch about my job. All she says to me anymore is, "So fucking update your resume already." But... but... I keep HOPING things will get better!

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:47 (twenty years ago)

Things will not get better for me. I've known this for a long time, but this really puts the hat on it.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:50 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I feel for you. At least you don't have interns who make more than you do.

There is a very good chance there will be a transit strike, which will horribly complicate my life, which I have strived so hard and so long to make uncomplicated.

Huk-L, Friday, 8 April 2005 18:51 (twenty years ago)

Hey kids. . I just got i'net back day before yesterday. In Austin, still jobless. :(

I'll try and get caught up on the board over the next couple of days. Hope you are all well.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Friday, 8 April 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

Hugs to you, Luna. It's really too bad that people can't just be decent to their employees without being somehow forced to.

happy fun ball (kenan), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:02 (twenty years ago)

jaymc-because he spent money on frivolous things and used savings without telling me. And dental care is quite expensive in the UK and not covered by NHS because it's considered a luxury.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

One hour of work left today!!!!

Hi, Sam. How's Austin?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

I could eat a whole pizza right now. But I want it from J0hn's on 45th.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

jocelyn, why were you sharing money with this dude? aren't you like 24?

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:41 (twenty years ago)

Nick and I don't share a savings account, but that's partially because neither of us have any! *sigh*

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

45th and what? As noted upthread I'm new to this whole midtown thing and the pizza I've seen thus far is pretty frickin ratty.

Ash (ashbyman), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Between 8th & Bway. But it's not by-the-slice. It's a huge place that is actually a converted church. God loves teh pizzas. There's also Little Italy on 45th b/t 5th and Vanderbilt. That's a take-out only place, unless you want to stand elbow to elbow with the eating-standing-up crowd.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 8 April 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

welcome back sam and good luck!

teeny (teeny), Friday, 8 April 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

Okay, I've been thinking about it, and I'm not going to quit today. I'm going to wait and see if they have indeed hired her, and if so, what her salary will be (Laurie just told me she 'misrepresented' what she told me earlier, and all Jay said was that it will be more than the other secretaries - this may or may not be bullshit) and if it is the same or close to what I make, I'll ask for a significant raise. If I don't get one, I'll hand in my resignation at that time.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

I don't know at all how these things work, but seems like no matter what the case is, you should say hey, avg person in LA who does what I do makes considerably more...make it worth my while to stay here or I'm gone.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, they can;t afford to pay me the going rate - the firm is too small, and while unions have $$$$, they're loathe to part with it.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:47 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile, I've posted my resume on CL, and I updated my resume on Monster, and I'm going to be actively looking for work.

So yeah, um, if anyone knows someone who needs a secretary/assistant/personal assistant/whatever... uh, call me.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

"CL", huh? . you're too hip for me.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Craigslist.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 8 April 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Ok so I am. Shut up.

()ops (()()ps), Friday, 8 April 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

Austin's super-boring right now and the traffic sucks balls. Too many cars, not enough street. I'm going to get hit just pulling off of our street.

Since I'm not earning money I can't go out or anything so am stuck inside all day. going nuts. Finished the Office DVD tonight, now what am I going to do??

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Saturday, 9 April 2005 03:43 (twenty years ago)

My niece was FINALLY born (Friday was false labor again) about an hour ago in a wee hospital outside of Sydney. Mother and baby are reportedly doing well.

Yay!

auntie luna, Sunday, 10 April 2005 19:08 (twenty years ago)

Fantastic news! Congratulations!

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 10 April 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

That's brilliant, Luna - hope you get to enjoy the wee one soon!

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 10 April 2005 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Whoo! New Life! Endless vistas of infinite possibilities! Humanity at its most pure! Rejoice!
Meanwhile, I just spent an hour and a half doing complicated (by my standards) math, and all I'm owed from my taxes is ONE FRUGGING CENT. ONE CENT. I did math for a penny. And I'm not even going to get the penny, because they don't give refunds for anything under $2, which, um, really isn't their decision to make, in my opinion. If they don't want to charge if you owe them under $2, that's their business, that's their money. But that's my goddamn penny, and I want what's coming to me.

Actually, if I got what was REALLY coming to me, like universal-karma-wise, that probably wouldn't be something I'd want.

My brother's been in Austin this past week, Sam. Maybe you've seen him and not even realized it. Or maybe not, since you're stuck inside. Maybe he walked past yr window, though. He's been known to walk past windows.
I don't even know why he went. I assume he knows a lady there. In the last two years he's been all over the states for a variety of well-bred women. He shames me. I haven't even taken a bus to see my mom.

And by the way, the Martha Wainwright album is partly sickeningly good, partly so-so, which makes her, I don't know, all the more appealing in a way.

Huk-L, Monday, 11 April 2005 03:29 (twenty years ago)

Hi Sam. Things will get better!

Orbit (Orbit), Monday, 11 April 2005 03:31 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L, Monday, 11 April 2005 03:51 (twenty years ago)

So much going on! Big hellos & congrats for the new little one Luna & I'm sorry that your job is sucking so much. Fwiw, i think your final conclusion is the right way to go!
sam - sorry to hear all is not well on the job front, best of luck with that.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 11 April 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

Good morning, everyone. It was such a beautiful weekend! I got a new-to-me bike (a vintage maroon one), played a fun show, wrote most of a new song, started reading Fever Pitch, watched Ripley's Game, ate some delicious mexican food, and had a margarita and a rum and coke. Ooh - and bought a bunch of stuff I shouldn't have (like fancy jeans, a Le Tigre purple polo shirt, and a cd by the New Black). B-but enough about me, how are YOU??

Congrats, Luna!! :-D My sisters need to start makin' some babies because I have baby fever again.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 11 April 2005 12:28 (twenty years ago)

congrats luna! I got a new niece a couple of months ago, have only seen her once. Hope you see yours soon.

Orbit, how are you?

I doubt I've seen your brother Huk as I live on the wrong side of the freeway andpeople aren't wont to wander this way.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 11 April 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

Hey Sarah! I'm glad you had such a good weekend, and got your bike - what kind is it? Describe describe! I've spent a large part of the morning collating reviews of the US remake of "Fever Pitch" - are you talking about the Nick Hornby book, or is there another of the same title? The film sounds pretty good, fwiw, especially if you like Drew Barrymore :)

My week has begun cautiously positively, mainly because I spent the whole morning working and not bumming around wondering what to do. Go me! I am desperate to pick up my new bike too, and the shop says they'll call me the second they've got it in. Excitement!!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 April 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

Hooray for auntie Luna!!! Awww, finally a baby girl in the family!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 11 April 2005 12:45 (twenty years ago)

i went to the r. crumb exhibition on saturday. it was great.

stelfoxxx, Monday, 11 April 2005 14:07 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys.

My Saturday went a bit wrong as we intended to take a bus out into the countryside, but the buses to Devil's Dyke only run on Sundays at the moment :( I got all grumpy at being in a crowded city full of asshats instead of in the wonder of nature, and ended up crying in a pub. But then decided just to get drunk, eat chips, take some mushrooms and watch Northern Exposure. So it wasn't totally awful.

On Sunday we had a bit of a spring cleaning binge on the flat which while boring, was satisfying.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 11 April 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

My niece is as yet unnamed and I wish my sister would hurry up. She has to 'see what her personality is first.' She's a day old. Her personality is eat, sleep, poop, without a lot of variation...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:21 (twenty years ago)

This won't change for 18 months, either.

Huk-L, Monday, 11 April 2005 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Congratulation auntie luna!

So, how can I get my boss to stop bringing chocolate to work? She leaves on my desk as a kind of communal supply. Which is fine, except that I actually do have a real problem with chocolate, and if it's there I can't NOT eat it. It's bordering on compulsive and if the supply remains constant I will probably not be able to fit into my wedding dress :(

But how to tell her that I am just too piggy and weak-willed to let it sit there for months like she does, only having the odd bite?

Archel (Archel), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

Well yeah, it will, it'll change in about 6 months, but still. My sister is weird.

Possible names last I knew were: Ruby, Maya, Yasmin and/or Zhara.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Can you move it somewhere else, Archel? Just plonk it down on someone else's desk and say if it's on mine, I'll eat it, and I don't wanna eat it, so I dub thee holder of the chocolate for all eternity, thank you and goodbye.

Then run away.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:27 (twenty years ago)

Flee in great haste!

Rah for Luna the Aunt. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Um, look Luna, not to embarrass you, but I think I know a little more about babies than anybody else in the whole world. Okay, so step off.

Huk-L, Monday, 11 April 2005 15:34 (twenty years ago)

Oh right, I was forgetting all those times you've given birth. Mea culpa!

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

That might work. Trouble is, my desk also = reception desk. So it's the logical place for communal chocolate etc. Which may soon cease to be communal and be MINE ALL MINE bwahahahaha. Oh dear.

Get one willpower.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 11 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

Also, I run an infantilism fetish site.

Huk-L, Monday, 11 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

Ruby is at the top of my daughter-to-be name list.

My newest niece is named Serenity. They let my aunt name her which is bunk b/c my suggestion is they name her after me! I've told them they've doomed themselves to having a loud-mouthed brat by giving her that name.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 11 April 2005 16:35 (twenty years ago)

I finally got some batteries for Nick's digital camera, so I will take a PICTURE of my new bike this afternoon. (oh, and yes, the Nick Hornby book, Markelby)

I like Ruby the best too, luna. You should tell your sis, "Yeah, so, this random girl on the INTERNET likes Ruby..." I did lots of baby watching this weekend and decided that I need to have a baby in wintertime so that by the time stroller season rolls (ha ha) around, I can deck him/her out in cute spring colored onesies. (Did I mention I've got baby fever again?)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

I like Zhara.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

There were several more names, as I recall, but I didn't like any of them, so I didn't bother to remember them.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

At one point, my cousin said he was going to name his son either Zebediah or Jacob. Fortunately, he went with Jacob.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

what's a onesie?

Hi people, I've gotten behind with this thread. I hope you're all well. Spring is great. I am pining for America lately. I need to get my teeth cleaned. The end.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Onesie: http://www.cottonsisters.com/baby/1Baby%20Onesie.jpg

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:16 (twenty years ago)

ah ok. That is cute! I thought it was maybe what Maggie Simpson wears. My exposure to children has been very limited thus far :)

sgs (sgs), Monday, 11 April 2005 17:24 (twenty years ago)

onesies are U&K with young babies.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Monday, 11 April 2005 20:45 (twenty years ago)

I'm sometimes sorry that *I* can't wear them.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:36 (twenty years ago)

What's the difference between a onesie and a dickie?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

Lady if you have to ask...

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:39 (twenty years ago)

A dickie is a false front - like a collar and a shirtfront instead of a full shirt.

Like this ihttp://www.awinningstitch.com/Dickie.jpg

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

I knew girls in school who wore onesies (called dickies by them) until 2nd or 3rd grade.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

well this kind of onesie only goes up to about 24 months.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:50 (twenty years ago)

BTW, congrats on being an aunt and a loving sister.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Well thank you. I'm desperate to call and see what's happening, but this fucking time difference is making it difficult. It's nearly 9 am there, though, so I'm not going to wait too much longer.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 21:52 (twenty years ago)

Tell me if I'm just being ignorant, but is the difference between Zara and Zhara that the latter is one 'h' more pointlessly pretentious?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Now I'm all a titter at the idea of fucking time difference. Two people on radically different schedules. Guy gets jumped by his wife at 4 am when he's all groggy and what not (not that I'd mind, say). He takes his horn over to his wife's office in the early afternoon and makes big time woo. Either that or at some time after the sexing, they come.

She: "Well you know, honey, my orgasms are now on EST."
He: "Oh? OK. Well, tell you what, you call me whwn you come so I can at least hear it, OK?"
She: "Uh, honey, it's 10 o'clock here, which means it was 10 on the East Coast three hours ago. Yeah, I came at seven."
He: "But I wasn't even here..."
She: "I know, I know but since I knew we were going to have a nice romantic evening together I fucked our neighbor."
He: "What!!"
She: "Well you want me to enjoy our sex life, don't you?"
He: Spluttering
She: "Oh, don't worry, I faked it anyway."
He: "With me or him?"
She: "Uhhh..."

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

I didn't mean that to make it sound like Zara is a pretentious name, just Zhara. But, as I said, I may just not know what I'm talking about.

Mharkelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:09 (twenty years ago)

Is the 'Zh' pronounced like Sz (or is it Zs) in Magyar? Like a buzzing 'sh' sound?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

I was wondering that too - but imagine the poor kid's life if they have to state and re-state their name every single time they say it, and if no-one could ever spell it. Fair enough if you're Hungarian. Is the child in question Hungarian?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:20 (twenty years ago)

All I know is the boyfriend is Lebanese and they wanted an arabic name. Zhara is apparently arabic and it means 'blossom' or something.

As my name is Aimee, I really have no room to speak about it.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Aimee means 'beloved' and it's even spelled correctly, what's wrong with that?

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

Zhara must be a variant of :

ZAHRAH
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Arabic
Derived from Arabic zahra meaning "blooming flower".

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:31 (twenty years ago)

I know what it means, I just mean it's slightly more poncy than 'Amy'.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Now that I think about it, I think my sister actually said Zahra. (Zed-a-h-r-a)... yeah.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

Aimee is the French version and it is a French past participle/adjective turned into a name (minus an accent aigu, of course. Perhaps what's sketchier is the Anglo knee-jerk reaction to unanglicized names...

BTW, I think Zahra is a lovely name.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:41 (twenty years ago)

I know it's the french version - my family is french/french-canadian... It's the only way my father would consent to my being named Aimee. I'm not sure I've forgiven him.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

Eh, ben, qu'est-ce tu peux faire? A part t'appeler luna, je veux dire. "Tout comprendre, c'est tout pardonner."

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, I'm not supposed to flirt senselessly with you 'til Friday afternoon. Salut.

M. White (Miguelito), Monday, 11 April 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

As of this minute, the baby is still unnamed, but my sister is leaning towards Ruby.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 11 April 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

Baby McBabypants
Bebe Babealini
Bitty Von Weefoots

I should be in charge of naming all babies.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

Luna, congratulations.

As I'm seeing tonight that my ILX name is 100% accurate, I'm not about to change it.

And... yeah. Not going to get into anything else at the moment because I don't want to disrupt the current mood of this thread.

I am that unhip, naive nobody you always avoid. (Dee the Lurker), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 05:26 (twenty years ago)

Dee, please tell me what's wrong!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 08:07 (twenty years ago)

Dee, you're not usually petulant - really, please change your name, most people on ILE are fine (or better) with you - why make them think bad things about you?

Je4nne should, indeed, be in charge of naming all babies.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 09:13 (twenty years ago)

dee take it to the mongrel thread if you wanna unload somewhere! (if you want to natch)

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 09:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, what's so good about your thread huh Gaz? Are you saying it's better than the TITTWISer thread?!! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 09:56 (twenty years ago)

nah just that if you want to whinge about something somewhere way from yr friends thats the thread to do it on.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 09:59 (twenty years ago)

its what i use it for.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

I was only joking! I am sure both threads are equally as good for that! :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:22 (twenty years ago)

In other news, this is my new bike:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/naamme/IMG_0658.jpg

It looks better when it's sunny out. I took that this morning (it's cold and rainy - ugh).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Yay! It's purty. You have a cool saddle. My bike will be slick and sporty but will, I'm sure, be like sitting on a razor blade.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I need to name it.

Yeah, the seat is cool, but I hadn't been on a bike in a few years, so my butt needs to conform to it.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:17 (twenty years ago)

just feeling really sad this morning. health shitty. scared about all the usual stuff (health, relationships, uncertainty). i dunno, sometimes it just all seems too bleak. i know i just have to hang in there and wait for things to change. it's all i can do, really.

i'm so afraid too of becoming this boring person who does nothing but complain. i dont want that. but i don't want to be this quietboring person who doesn't say much, either. i'd like to avoid the boring part.

but sometimes things just suck, and sometimes it's for extended periods of time, and arrrgh. i feel like my problems keep going on and on and on, without much that i can DO. frustrating.

and that's my whinge.

also, hi. and congrats, luna! that's a great bike, sarah.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 13:43 (twenty years ago)

Julia, I'm so sorry you're feeling crappy today. What with the move on hold, it must feel like some greater power has their finger hovering over the pause button on your life. It's always a depressing time, for some reason - and with health problems too it must be terrible.

You just need to keep reminding yourselves of the unpredictable, exciting times ahead (and not too far ahead now!), and look after yourself - and keep talking to your TITTWIS friends, of course...

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Sorry you're feeling that way Julia. I wish i could say something that might make you feel better, but I don't seem to be able to think of anything apart from I'm sure it'll all work out. *hugs*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:12 (twenty years ago)

Julia, What makes you can happy? What can you indulge in to distract yourself from everything that's bothering you?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:15 (twenty years ago)

I like the name Aimee miles better than Amy.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Random Question:
Could I replace my hub caps by myself with just a screwdriver or is that something that would require a drill and/or repairman?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:36 (twenty years ago)

I have a huge complaint against yogurt containers. What piss-poor design. First of all, they're not big enough, but that's not the real problem. They know you're going to be eating it with a teaspoon, yet they build in two major lips and crevices where yogurt can always hide from your spoon. You can never get all the yogurt out from under the top lip, and getting it out of the bottom crevice requires effort that could be better spent elsewhere in life. Yogurt containers have been like this for so long, I don't think anyone even notices anymore, but this is shitty design. Someone please invent a better yogurt container, k thnks.

happy fun ball (kenan), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:43 (twenty years ago)

I have a complaint against yogurt: IT'S NASTY.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:48 (twenty years ago)

I agree (with K, not with Nick). I eat lots of yogurt, so I'm an expert in yogurt container design. You should start a petition.

Also, I like to put granola in my yogurt, but that's not so easy with the tiny containers. I have to just put a tiny bit in at a time, but I always end up making a mess on the table anyway. But that doesn't stop me. I need to just buy another huge carton of yogurt and pour it into a bowl each time.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm all worried about yogurt containers since I read the "Please crush to protect wildlife" on the side of my Yoplait container last week. Have I been inadvertantly killing innocent wildlife for years while eating healthily?
Also, please stop making something called Go-Gurt, it looks and sounds quite gross.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:50 (twenty years ago)

thanks for being sweethearts, you guys.

i watch lots of dvds, play computer games, do what i can to distract. getting new netflix stuff tomorrow probably, yay.

was just looking at the pics on that letsbefriends blog, which are supertweeee...

and i agree with jaymc, aimee is a better name.

i always get the big things of yogurt, but there's still crevices...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

I like the yogurt that comes in a tube. That shit is freaky!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:52 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, why do you want to take off your hubcaps? You don't have any replacement hubcaps yet.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Um, because your parents want to use our car to go on a road trip and my car looks very ghetto right now. If it's something I can just do myself, I can buy some at Target. If not, I might have to buy them where the work is done anyway.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:56 (twenty years ago)

Nick, didn't you notice these in the hallway?

http://homepage.floodcity.net/users/jjsglass/rims.JPG

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

My parents said we could use their rental, I thought. Besides, who cares what they think about our car. If they're offended, THEY can buy the damn hubcaps.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Julia, *hugs*

one of these days my 'puter will be back up and hopefully I can chat again.

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Hello. I'm bored. It's rainy out and cold, and I want chocolate.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 17:20 (twenty years ago)

My mother told me last night that the baby's name is Ruby Patricia.

(Um... ew)

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 April 2005 18:59 (twenty years ago)

What's wrong:

I'm almost always running into demons lately. I'm either thinking that I'm this horrendously ugly idiot or that there's no chance in hell I'd ever fit in anywhere or that I'm, like, this nobody or that I always screw up everything or that I *am* that unhip, naive nobody people always avoid. I mean, right now I'm not as deep in that dark hole as I was when I posted that, but I still kinda am in that hole. Which is why I can't think of anything to say; my mind is clouded over by the vastness and depth of that hole. But I did promise someone very close to me that I would get some help, and I feel like I really need that help, so, well, yeah. And Gaz/mullygrubbr (which one is it?), I'll have to return to the monguxors thread as soon as I clear myself of some of these thoughts.

As for now, though, I'm falling asleep on the chair. So... yeah. There. End of ILXing for tonight. Sorry for mentally being of one track; this is just THE ISSUE that's plagued me throughout my life and it's only been with certain events in the recent-ish past that I've had them dredged back up, after I thought I'd resolved them. I guess I REALLY need to do that. Because I want to become a better friend. And talk about other things. Even though right now I feel like my life's not worth talking about, like it's this totally boring and unremarkable existence. Which is one of the things I think about when I think about being a "nobody".

Anyway, thread, night.

I am that unhip, naive nobody you always avoid. (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 06:18 (twenty years ago)

Oh Dee, you're breaking my heart. I wish i could be there to talk to you & try to help you. all of my love is on its way to you. You have my email address if you need it.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

hi folks, checking in and saying hi. still working on babies and still at home with a bum leg.

i saw fever pitch this weekend, it was decent. kind of reminded me of myself.

congrats to auntie luna and cheers to all.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

When I was in the video store the other day, I came across a version of Fever Pitch with Colin Firth from several years ago, based on the same book. Has anyone seen that one? (And it's actually about soccer, I mean, football).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 12:37 (twenty years ago)

Arrrrghhhhh. What are you doing all up in this thread Hornby??? A pox on you and your rubbish books! No offence Sarah...

(Wait a minute (much as I hate to dwell on it) - does that mean that the US version of Fever Pitch is NOT about soccer? Wha?)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 12:52 (twenty years ago)

Yes - it's quite good, Sarah (very British as well - I don't know if that's a good or bad thing for you), though very different in tone and content from the US version (which I can't wait to see). It was directed by one of our clients.

I took a picture of my NEW BIKE today, but it came out rubbish, so I'll take another one tonight and show y'all. Even though it just looks like the one in the pic I linked to upthread.

(Archel, stop being a hata and let people enjoy the Hornby loveliness. It's about baseball.)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 12:55 (twenty years ago)

the US version is about baseball! it looks not great but chris has seen it so he has far more right to comment than me. also whilst i HATED high fidelity as a book/concept i actually quite liked the US movie of it, so who knows. they sort of de-hornbyed hornby and that's no bad thing at all, so i guess what i'm saying is that fever pitch might be ok.

stelfox, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

hope you're enjoying all that working on babies, and not getting too stir crazy with the bum leg, chris.

a sunny day again, today. i hope it's cool though, they still have the heat on in my building from the chilly day yesterday. my long distance phone service is on the fritz, i need to figure that out. i realized it was fuxored and then realized that just about everyone i call is long distance (or local toll, same thing). i may not be here for toooo much longer (hopefully), but that's a bit of a problem.

does anyone have recommendations for fun movies that have just been released on dvd? my netflix list is getting a little bare...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I hate so few things in life. Don't deprive me of my lone Hornby hate Mark!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I like Nick Hornby books. There I said it! Oh no my secret is out, I really am that stupid.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

I remember enjoying High Fidelity (the book) when I read it, but that was a while back. How to Be Good I thought had a good premise and a promising start but kind of fumbled the ending. It seemed like he couldn't really figure out how to conclude it so just jumbled some crap together.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Archel, you must be re-educated. MUST RE EDUCATE! MUST RE EDUCATE!!!

High Fidelity and About a Boy are wonderful books, and I don't care who knows.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

I liked the movie of High Fidelity a little better than the book (which is odd, that rarely happens), and How to Be Good was just sort of meh for me.

I did, however, quite like the Colin Firth version of Fever Pitch, though this may be more due to my love for Colin Firth than anything else.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:01 (twenty years ago)

I got more emotional watching the city of Boston in Fever Pitch than anything else. I'm homesick!

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:02 (twenty years ago)

You are all insane. INSANE!

Wait, it's me, isn't it? Oh well, better mad than a Hornbyite.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

Me, too, Remy - though I lived in Maine, not Mass... I guess just homesick for New England.

(But I'm going next month!)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Let's talk about something. Anything. Suggestions?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Don't worry, the entirety of ILM hates Hornby!

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

The only things on my mind right now (that aren't about work) are food (mainly, lunch) and sex.

I am probably not the best person to talk to.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

the entirety of ILM hates everything.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

ILM loves Hornsby, though, oddly enough.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

ILM is supposed to be talking about muuusssiiicccc. The nerve!

I have a horrible horrible headache from hell. Must... stop... looking... at... computer... screen!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

food and sex....doesn't one or the other comprise the majority of thread topics on ile? or maybe it's just the threads that i click on....

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I suppose they do, really.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

I liked reading 'Fever Pitch'. It was an interesting sociological study. The movie was OK too. 'How to be Good' was dire though.

M. White (Miguelito), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:27 (twenty years ago)

there have been a lot of food threads on ile lately I think. Or maybe I'm just really hungry and I'm noticing them more.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:35 (twenty years ago)

oh man I just realized I have some nice sharp white cheddar and avocados, I really want a quesadilla.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 17:36 (twenty years ago)

I'm at home for a brief moment because one of my classes got cancelled for today and I got out of work a little early, so I was able to eat something here at the house for lunch. Right now I'm sitting here in front of the computer with the last bit of water I used to wash down my meal. I had a sandwich!

Oh Dee, you're breaking my heart. I wish i could be there to talk to you & try to help you. all of my love is on its way to you. You have my email address if you need it.

Pink, your heart could cover the whole world. Aw. Your sentiments and thoughts and messages of love and support have meant far too much to me to be pinned down with just words. You are so GOOD. Good of spirit and heart and a good person overall. I'm currently not feeling any of the darkness so I can accurately convey to you my appreciation for all the good you do. Thank you.

(I will get that help, BTW.)

I am that unhip, naive nobody you always avoid. (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:06 (twenty years ago)

Dee, "hip" is one of the least important things you can aim to be. You seem like a good-hearted and intelligent person, and those qualities are way more important than whether the music you like matches up with what some asshole 19-year-old likes. Plus, you like cool music - that '80's mix you sent me is awesome. "Kinetic" by Hilary is like the third-most-listened to song on our Audioscrobbler thingy.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:10 (twenty years ago)

pink & n/a otm. Dee, you are such a wonderful person... I wish you knew that. You are so sweet and kind and loving that it just breaks my heart to hear you talk so negatively about yourself.

If you need me, I'm an email or a phone call away. Honest.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 19:22 (twenty years ago)

Awesome. Please do.

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

I've been informed today that I have been referred to as 'lazy'.

I work my ASS OFF for these assclowns.

This is really too much.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:54 (twenty years ago)

hahaha you have a comedian in your midst!

()ops (()()ps), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

I have been referred to as 'lazy'

I'm sure they mean that in the modern "she doesn't shit herself everytime any little thing happens, and she doesn't play games, she just does her job" sense.

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

yeah it's the '05 version of "chill"!

()ops (()()ps), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 22:01 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I think one of the problems here, among many others obv, is that you have outgorwn this job. They clearly want someone less experienced and stupider than you in that position. Let them have it.

happy fun ball (kenan), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

You are absolutely correct, and I have sent off several emails today.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 April 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

It is 12.41 AM here. I have been working solidly since 10:00pm on finishing my feature. On the other computer, so I'm not ILE distracted. I WILL finish the first draft before I sleep. I will, I will, I will.

I've got 80 pages, and the first draft is suppozed to be abt 100. But I'm chip-chip-chipping it down to 90ish. Or 95ish. Can be done! Updates later.

PS Ephedra & crank motherfuckers! Epheeeeeeeeedra! Craaaaaaaaank! Impaireeeeeeeeed Judgementttttttttttt!

Audi 5gz niggaz.

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 14 April 2005 06:43 (twenty years ago)

Now it's 2 and it didn't work out quite like I expected. I got anover 6 pages done, but they're mostly crap. Starting to crash now, uh oh!

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 14 April 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

my job is going the way of luna's - just as well i have applied for a close-to dream job several thousand miles away from here

st_lf_x, Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

Are you stealing Luna's job now she's out of the picture?

Luna, you should set up your own business. I don't know what you'd do, but your intelligence and force of personality should be more than enough to conquer any area you choose.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 09:43 (twenty years ago)

Time for a new thread, maybe?

God, reading serious threads on ILE literally exhausts me. God knows what that says about my brain :/

So, anything fluffy/cheeky/scurrilous/titillating/hilarious to report? Anyone?

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I'm gonna grab those fockers by their short n curlies and swing them around the room. LAZY??? Wait till I get a hold of 'em. They'll have to pick their teeth out of their morning crap. (Oh yes, I DID just say that.)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm so fucking charming it makes me sick.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:09 (twenty years ago)

Hey all. I am immeasurably proud of myself today for a) riding my bike to work for the first time and b) bringing a reasonably healthy lunch including c) an avocado, a food which until recently I was convinced I didn't like but now I think I might, and a vegetable, something I almost never eat at lunch.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:12 (twenty years ago)

Also sorry to Luna for having to work with assholes. My boss is generally tolerable, but last Friday she did the bullshit thing for blaming me for something that wasn't my fault and then refusing to even listen to my explanation, which I was trying to explain reasonably and not in a whiny, not-my-fault way, instead brushing off all my comments by essentially telling me that I'm not supposed to think about anything, I'm just supposed to enter things the way they're written, even if they are wrong. I felt like when you were a little kid and you're trying to explain to your parents that something wasn't your fault but they just send you to your room without listening. SO FRUSTRATING.
We need to think of some awesome internet business that we can all go in on together.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:15 (twenty years ago)

OK TITTWIS advisers - justifiable huff or not?: went salsa dancing on Tuesday and M got a little drunk, and on the way home all he talked about was how nice it had been dancing with pretty girls, and how nice x (female friend of friend) was, and how this one girl he danced with was really nice too... I haven't seen much of him since then and just mentioned on the phone that I'd found this a bit jealous-making and hurtful. And he got all sulky. Grr. AM I WRONG?

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

No, you are not wrong. Lysistrata time for M.
Can I join the business too? I am so sickeningly bored in my job, esp. now that I have to hear my boyfriend go on about his exciting experiments all the time. It's this awful Catch-22 of I want to be in grad school because I'm mindnumbingly bored and fed-up with having to pull everyone else's weight at work and I love being in school, but I can't be in grad school because I have no money so I have to work.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Nick, you know pefectly well what that "internet business" would be, you coy thing you.

Archel, the fact he got sulky rather than guilty or evasive is probably a good sign. You are an absolute solid fact in his life, his uncontestable number 1 gal - perhaps he just felt it was such a harmless thing to say, devoted as he is, that he didn't think it would cause offence?

(I'd have reacted the same way as you, though :))

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:31 (twenty years ago)

I'd like any kind of job, pls, thx.

Dee, when you gotta free weekend? Come up and visit me!

Miss Misery (thatgirl), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

on the way home all he talked about was how nice it had been dancing with pretty girls, and how nice x (female friend of friend) was, and how this one girl he danced with was really nice too...

The first of these three is really the only one that I see as potentially offensive. The other two are pretty harmless, just saying that people were nice, but probably seemed worse in the context of the first one.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I firmly believe that any internet business we start should involve pictures of Luna's ass.

Can I join the business too?

Girl-girl scenarios are always classic. Of course you can join the business!

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

classy. anyway, i've realised jobs are supposed to be shit. we spend all our time moaning about them but i'd probably be more worried if i didn't. the only thing i want is not to be treated like a cunt and respected for the amount i do.

s__lf-x, Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:48 (twenty years ago)

i've realised jobs are supposed to be shit

The first version of the Matrix was supposed to be perfect, but you people rejected it.

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 14 April 2005 14:52 (twenty years ago)

There will be no internet business involving my ass, thank you. What would my mother say? Or my son? 'Here's that Ferarri you wanted for your 8th birthday, son, compliments of mama's behind.'

No.

I would like to: own a bar, open a restaurant, have a bookstore.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

But ass is the only internet business that makes any money at all!

Ok, forget the ass idea. Brick-and-mortar business it is.

happy fun ball (kenan), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:08 (twenty years ago)

Well, maybe we can do both.

Meanwhile, I shall start a new thread today - suggestions for titles, please?

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

Find on this thread the 7-word phrase with the most obscenities in it, then use that.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I thought we were going to use "burying the worm in the mole hole" (or something), the one Remy pointed out.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

I was going to start a thread about your favorite dim-witted sitcom characters just so I could talk about Ted Baxter from the Mary Tyler Moore Show and Dougal from Father Ted but I couldn't decide if it was a worthy topic or not. So instead I started a lame thread about Amy Sedaris.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:45 (twenty years ago)

I wanted to start a thread about characters that we hear about for the entire movie but don't appear until the very end, or only in flashback. Like Harry Lime. What is that device called again?

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Foreshadowing? (Kinda.)

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:54 (twenty years ago)

Rosebud? I can't think of a specific name for the device, grr.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

TITTWIS: AY! Get your bitch-ass back in the kitchen and bake me some pie!

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 April 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

Well, there's the McGuffin, like the Maltese Falcon, or Rosebud, and then there's whatever Harry Lime is. They said it on the commentary for the Third Man and I'm racking my brain here. Can I just say that I think The Third Man is one of the most perfect movies ever made?
