Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Monday, 22 May 2006 19:20 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, it just opened this weekend! I haven't seen Julia's kitchen yet, either, so I plan to make a multi-pronged assault.

barbarO RLY? (daria g), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 02:29 (nineteen years ago)

It's from one of the final scenes of Mars Attacks!, Natalie Portman's character (the president's daughter) is the highest ranking government official and stands on the steps of a ruined Capitol with a mariachi band playing the National Anthem. Quite poignant.

Dan (Puppy Ruxpin) Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

That doggie doesn't look very doggie-ish.

It's a Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier puppy

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I dunno what those pants are either.

My email was so weird this morning, it was full of pictures basically just like that one and then a lengthy out of the blue e-mail from my other sister telling me how awesome Hiroshima is???????????? And that her "host sister" thinks I'm hot????????? And a whole lot of this: "XD"

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:51 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I gave up on trying to understand younger siblings years ago. It's as though they are from another generation, or maybe another planet.

The other day my brother leaves a message on my voice mail that goes "Hey sis--I need you to call me and tell me how to keep mom and dad out of my stuff when they come to visit. They're ALWAYS GOING THROUGH MY STUFF and it pisses me off!" OK dude well 1) I have never seen this M&D "going through stuff" behavior and 2) MAYBE IF YOU WEREN'T GROWING A BUNCH OF POT IN YOUR CLOSET YOU WOULDN'T BE SO PARANOID!

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

Well, one of them is in Hiroshima. I don't know if the other one is, though I assume so. I don't get the impression they're staying together though.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

You know I was going to push Wednesday as the new Tuesday this week, but damned if I can find any mention of that silverdocs Cue Bar event online. I swear I saw it in last week's City Paper, but perhaps I was hallucinating? I'm almost positive it is tomorrow. I guess I could do something crazy like call.

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 15:31 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

I'm sorry, that girl annoys the crap out of me and to see that she's not even actually sexy is really upsetting for some reason.

And those tattoos are totally rank.

OK now I'm doing useful things like solving Ally's emoticon problem. From wiki:

XD (used to represent laughing) supposedly became popular on the internet shortly after it was used in the television show, South Park, usually explained to the unknowing as the emoticon being akin to the animation method used when a character was laughing so hard they had their eyes closed (a sideways X for their eyes).

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Sorry, everyone else always changes their name so I thought I would try it.

I'm down for OT shopping!

Although I've only had Greggggg cut my hair at PR Partners I have seen many a fine hair cut walk out the door courtesy of other stylists, so I think at the very least the company does a decent job hiring/training/keeping up with current fashions and whatnot. If you like I can ask Greggggg if he recommends anyone in particular at the Alexandria branch.

ZR, how much coffee have you had so far???

Where in CO you going?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Where in Colorado are you and Am. going, ZR? I want to go on vaca but I don't know where to go, so I keep saving up my time in the event that I can decide/meet a sugar daddy who will ferry me away someway exotic. (I am inspired by viewing Shopgirl last night.)

Q, yes please inquire of Greggggggggggggggggg who in OT is capable of transforming the remnants of a 50's boy cut into the genesis of a 50s girl cut. How much for a basic cut do they charge btw?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

Boulder, to see some friends of ours. I think the current plan calls for us to relax for a day or so and see the town, then go to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison and Curecanti National Recreation Area for some camping/hiking/boozing. I think we may also check out this nifty-lookin pinball place my friend told me about - I mean, come on, check out the celebrity endorser!

XD

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:27 (nineteen years ago)

Mary, answer carefully when he asks you which gloves you prefer.

Classic Kiss pinball! In middle school I pretended to be friends with an annoying kid just because he had one of those machines in his basement.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Mary I'll call Gregggggg today. I think cuts range from mid-forties to mid-sixties, depending on who is doing the chopping.

Hmmmm, must-sees in Bethesda. . . there are several consignment stores and a Mustard Seed worth checking out for clothes, along with Daisy Too on St. Elmo, which has pricey clothes and an interesting shoe selection. Also Luna on Woodmont for pricey clothes. The Landmark theatre for a movie, maybe? Louisiana Express for lunch or dinner? I'll post other thoughts as they occur to me. . .

What day OT? Any day is fine by me, including Monday and TUESDAY, which I am also taking off!

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

Vace for a great slice of pizza? Divino Lounge for a caipirinha? Georgetown Books, mysteriously located on Bethesda Ave. near the B&N (often lots of review copies available cheeeep)? Oooh, there's a place at the very very end of Norfolk (Cornucopia, IIRC) with a great selection of cheeses and cured meats and pastries and espresso. There's a very hit-or-miss thrift store on Wisconsin. Daruma for japanese stuff, also another japanese grocery (the teeny tiny one I was confusing with Daruma the other day) on St. Elmo, across from Daisy Too.

TWO BIGGEST DOUCHEBAGS IN THE WORLD!

JW (ex machina), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

I can't even read that thread anymore, it's really, really upsetting me. I have lived with literally over 100 dogs in my life (plus cats...birds...guinea pigs...horses...donkeys...goats...ducks...etc) and the idea that there is some kind of cultural "okayness" to abusing the dog just so Momus can make his pissant "I'm better than all of you, have you seen my cock today?" point is actually making me want to cry.

I really kind of think he should be locked out of posting for a while cos of the Chinese thing. It's not the first time he's done that, either.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

The poor dog looks like a fuckin water spaniel, or maybe a bouvier, those things haven't even got a mean bone in their body.

I could understand maybe a chihuahua being left in the rain, my mom's one is like the worst, craziest, meanest dog in the universe. But even that dog, I'd feel a little bad for.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:29 (nineteen years ago)

re: images from noize board, I am really glad I have images turned off

I like Momus. He's interesting. I haven't read that thread today but when he first showed up I thought it was more about him pointing out, uh, why is it that you start by threatening people with a hammer? I haven't continued reading though, I've had enough stress today and it's only 11:30. Why does a five-mile commute take ONE FULL HOUR on public transport even though I didn't have to wait but 1 min for metro and 1 min for bus? ARRGH
For that matter Ian S was pretty nice to me, I don't know, no more or less awkward to talk to than anyone else I've met who spends a lot of time hanging out in record stores.

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Momus is a person whose entire posts would be perfectly acceptable and agreeable had he boiled them down to one sentence, but because he likes to be a tremendous douchebag and feel important and conversed with, he adds on 17 other inflammatory side issues to "make a point." His ideas are shockingly limited for someone with so much experience and he's pretty willful at refusing to actually learn about the side issues before he goes off on them. Repeatedly. I've defended him many times, he's a perfectly nice person in real life, but his posts to that thread made me lose all respect for him, and I would not be willing to see him again in real life, either.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I did miss the psycho cat story ;_;

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, the thing is that I'm pretty sure you're not hampering to get some pets any time soon, so it's ok that you think animals belong outdoors all the time, even dogs.

The other thing is that when I had pets I lived out in the country, not in the city, and all of the pets we had (mostly cats) were essentially free-range animals who were also provided with basic shelter in the form of little houses and our garage. I have no intention of getting a pet because 1) my wife is allergic to any pet I'd like to have; and 2) I've lived with a roommateswho had an indoor cat and it was the biggest fucking annoyance in the world, mostly because it kept trying to kill me in my sleep. There is nothing more traumatic than dreaming someone is trying to smother you with a smelly pillow and then waking up to a fucking CAT ANUS on your FACE. I still don't know how he was getting the door open. Fucker.

Also Momus does this with living creatures all the time, only usually it's confined to human beings.

Dan (REPRINT) Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

I am not even sure which thread you guys are referring to, happily.

I think Saturday or Sunday would be fine for me for OT--so you girls decide which works best for y'alls.(Unless Steve Martin delivers a plane ticket to NYC wrapped in a long, thin glove box.)

Whoa--Bethesda appears to have a plethora of options. Not sure I can tackle all of those.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Ally otm. It's not so much Momus' point so much as his perpetual need to artfully dance around it that's annoying and makes you just wanna take a hammer and... yeah

Ian S. is nice and approachable in my experience, kinda disarming in a way, since you'd think he'd be Mr. Snobbycool McStandoffish

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

hi guys. so upthread I was advertising my tickets to A Prairie Home Companion, the radio show, in live performance at a fine outdoor concert venue in the DC metro area. Ally offered to take them off my hands, but she understandably thought I was referring to the opening-next-week Altman-Lohan movie of the same name, an impression reinforced by my witty and original use of google image search. I then compounded the failure-to-communicate via email, ultimately deciding to mail the tickets out, but also to see if there were any big NPR-lovers hiding in the woodwork who might want to preempt the unlikely but possibly awesome meeting of Garrison Keillor and TOMBOT in the same physical space. Then I went outside to get lunch, and managed to lose the tickets somewhere in the two blocks between here and the deli. Anyone want to give me some launch codes to play around with this afternoon?

CATPRIN, a tailor for cats. Ever imagined dressing up your lovely cat into a fabulous beauty? You don't have to dress her everyday, in fact she might not feel comfortable with a dress on for days. Just dress her up only on special occasions like her birthday, takes a photo and that should leave you lots of memories and fantasies.

WOW!!!!!!! THIS IS THE NEW DOGS IN UNIFORM

1. Dress her up. Cheer or yell, do whatever you like to enjoy the moment with your family.

2. After you are enough with your joy, take a photo! Take some poses and leave her some cute photos!

3. Remove her clothes and give her a hub, say "Thank you!"

Hey DC kids, questions: if someone were looking to find a short-term sublet (effectively for the summer), what would be the best way to do it? Craigslist? How easy/difficult is it, in terms of, if you came down on a friday, say, what are the chances of finding someplace by monday? you can post here or e-mail me off list. thx!

pleased to mitya (mitya), Wednesday, 24 May 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

Craiglist is probably your best bet for sublets? Be sure to show up early if there are any open houses, and call or e-mail the ads the second you see them because stuff goes very quickly.

At what point do we admit that it is NOT OK for the DC thread to be more than 50% posts by people that DON'T EVEN LIVE ANYWHERE NEAR HERE.

The answer is Kirking Shalom.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

chanting the 'ohm'?

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

Simple solution: Out-of-state tuition.

I'm glad no one's been so indelicate as to mention "jerking with foam".

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:41 (nineteen years ago)

Stephen for that I think you should be banished to the Noize board!

Also: did we come to a consensus on what day OT? No? How about Saturday?

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:43 (nineteen years ago)

DO NOT READ THE FRIST QUOTES ON SLIDES 3 AND 4 UNLESS YOU WANT TO VOMIT.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Saturday works for me. Time? Anytime after noon is okay for me.

How much did Frist's campaign pay for that gorilla?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:00 (nineteen years ago)

Kuja’s smell soaked into Frist’s hair and clothes as he examined the animal. “gorillas, people, men. You look at the people here, a symphonic flow of people pitching in. It’s the oneness of humanity,” the Senate Majority Leader said.

“There’s almost a spiritual, poetic component to it,” Frist said of treating Kuja. “This oneness, this wholeness. You can’t compare it to the Senate floor. I immerse myself in it. This is my real life.”

YES YOU FUCKING FUCK YOU WORK WITH A BUNCH OF FUCKING APES EVERY DAY, WE KNOW!

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

I mean, can you believe that shit?

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

Hey all five people who read this board who actually live in/around DC, you should come to the Black Cat tomorrow night for BLISS dance party featuring a live performance by The Rosebuds. It should be more than half decent.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

um, I mean SATURDAY night.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 25 May 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

When the gorilla started to stir, a veterinarian injected more anesthesia. One backhanded swipe from the animal could break a human's neck.

BTW everyone I built me own pipe through a poorly configured firewall to root a windoze box on the other side by using a password stolen from an unpatched webserver. I am officially an Ultimate Hacker now.

ILX POTENTIAL HAPPY HOUR SPOT ROUNDUP
Adams Morgan edition

Scouting done Tuesday, May 16th by Q & Brian

SOUSSI
The "great half price happy hour", "Leffe on tap", and a seat on the patio are reasons enough for Soussi's fans to flock there in nice weather. A "non-Adams Morgan feel" and a varied but "delicious sounding" menu of French-inflected Moroccan specialties make up for the "service without a smile" and a "cramped interior". Beware of olfactory issues - one reviewer warns that "certain seats downwind of outdoor diners sometimes smell like fish".

Bedrock Billiards
"Comfy vintage seating areas" and "friendly barkeeps" give this Columbia Road spot top honors on our list. Dartboards and "mirrors in the bathrooms" are but a few of the amenities offered by this low key underground pool hall, though the lack of kitchen is a "major bummer". Those in the know point out that "you can bring in outside food", and a jukebox with "killer tunes" makes it a great place to stay through the evening.

Bourbon
A "crapload" of bourbons by the glass at all price points give this space (formerly the Blue Room) its name. Whether at the downstairs bar or the "spacious and sophisticated" upstairs, "you'll run into people you know" who "moderate their drinking better than you do." A good bottled beer selection and a "super sweet" fenced in patio round out Bourbon's appeal.

Amsterdam Falafel
"Totally fucking awesome", rave reviewers. The "boundless" toppings bar and "friggin' amazing" fries complete the microscopic menu at this 18th Street gem. Many note that the "lack of a liquor license" is a "serious drawback" for gatherings of internet groups.

OMG KUDOS TO BRIAN!!!!!

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

I see an ilxdc book deal in this. OK next tuesday we are so on for the next installation!

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:08 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe we can go to Bliss after OT outing. Meet: Misha's Coffe House, King Street, walkable from Metro. Time: TBD.

I just had a seventh grader ask me if we had any books with like, tips on how to be a goth. They grow up so fast these days.

Maybe we should write one? Perhaps there is a burgeoning market. And the LOC could publish it?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh thank god they did in the Blue Room.

ok you are lying.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm deeply offended by this book. The cover depicts a grinning fat chick. Anyone who knows anything about the goth scene knows that we try to discourage fat chicks from entering, because they're disgusting and abhorrent. We treat the fat goth chicks the way America does the gays, except with a bit more tolerance and open contempt.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 25 May 2006 22:39 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, that cover really is just about all I need to know.

I'm off to meet this dude. See you if I get back.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 26 May 2006 00:55 (nineteen years ago)

Fuck, y'all. Packing sucks. Seriously. Fuck this shit.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 26 May 2006 13:47 (nineteen years ago)

Daria after a couple of these types of classes I have to basically recommend VMWare for all tinkering ever, you can fuck with shit to your heart's content all day and not break anything you actually need. All the hobbyist doofuses I've ever worked with swear by it.

http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

Packing is crap yes.
Are you guys going shopping in OT Saturday afternoon or what?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

OK, what time is good for tomorrow? Misha's is at the corner of King Street and South Patrick, entrance on South Patrick, in a big painted white buidling, next to a yoga studio, and a beauty store (feel the gentrification).

http://pages.alexandriacity.com/dining/mishas.htm (

I've never seen it look as clean as it does in the pictures.)It's maybe a 5-7 minute walk from Metro--I don't know though--I've never walked it. It will be across Patrick street and on your right if you are walking from the Metro.

MK: Donate your books to the local library.

T: Shopping, browsing, etc. Maybe the boys could go to a batting cage?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

STILL PACKING? Haven't you been doing this for DAYS now?

OT shopping is a go for me! How does one o'clock sound? Ally, I'll be riding the red line down--wanna meet up in Dupont?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

One o'clock sounds great. Remind to pass out my new cell tomorrow--so that Britishers NYC boy doesn't get cranky.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Does the local library need Hacking Exposed 4th Edition with my name on the side in sharpie ink? Because I just got the 5th edition for free. (it's smaller and thinner than its predecessors. I'm not sure what that means).

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:13 (nineteen years ago)

My shopping goals: useless beauty products, cute shoes, good coffee. And a smallish box in which to corral the crap that normally spills all over my bedside table--I would imagine one of those gazillion antique stores may have something like this.

Oh and a coworker just got rid of like 50 ancient textbooks on craiglist--she just put them out on the curb and someone came and snapped them up within like an hour or something.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

I did not know this:

Market Square in Old Town was once the site of the second-largest slave market in the United States.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alexandria,_Virginia

My shopping goals: To not spend any money.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

Godspeed

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:36 (nineteen years ago)

Who knew!

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah. B/t packing, cleaning, and the farewell tour, this has been the most drawn-out and ridiculous process ever.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Friday, 26 May 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

1pm sounds okayish. I can meet up in Dupont and ride the metro. I am not being very jazzy today!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:00 (nineteen years ago)

I saw a junk sailing on the Potomac today. Perhpas it is going to meet the Godspeed.

What we will look like when finished shopping:

http://www.pattandbilly.com/Barbie/Lily-Pulitzer-AA.jpg

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:19 (nineteen years ago)

"The FUN side of the Potomac"?

Should I go to the office today? hardly anyone else bothered, apparently.

thanks for VMware link, Tom. I was like, is that a goth band? setting up a virtual machine would be perfect, although I still need a new PC to run it at anything like a tolerable speed. a top-of-the-line thinkpad is what I really want, but will be major $$$. maybe I should invest in a desktop PC instead - I'd like to work on skills in php/sql and eventually pick up some freelance web development gigs, but right now I don't have the infrastructure to work effectively (ie running photoshop off a 5 year old laptop).

Quincie there is a really posh beauty product type store right by Misha's, so we must make a stop there. Ohno Lilly Pulitzer! hello Newport, Rhode Island in the summertime.

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

As a result of this, it has dinosaurs.

Also, if you ALL show up wearing Hunter Age 3 shirts I will pretend not to know you

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Do you guys want to eat lunch, or should we play it by ear?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:29 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe I should wear my Lilly Pulitzer dress that I've never worn?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

also hey daria for web dev work we got introduced to a really awesome free tool called PAROS:
http://www.parosproxy.org/index.shtml
it lets you seriously fuck with web applications from the client end. a bit of an eye-opener.
i have no advice re: computer purchases, though. Not any that's good.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:33 (nineteen years ago)

You have a Lily Pulitzer dress??? Yes, wear.

Lisa B. picked up a ton of second-hand Lily at Tokio 7. When she tried on the skirts she looked like a hip East Village girl. When I tried them on I looked like Old Town, Alexandria girl.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:48 (nineteen years ago)

I'll figure it out re: the computer, I know what I want if money weren't severely limited, but haven't done my research on other options yet, so... IBM Intellistation, hot or not?

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:51 (nineteen years ago)

I bet I look like Old Town, Alexandria girl too.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

better than a gaithersburg, maryland girl

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:56 (nineteen years ago)

It does help to have some Asian blood to offset the Waspy undertones of the Lily--don't worry, though--I am sure you can pull it off.

What does a Gaithersburg, MD girl look like?

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

i'm not really sure. probably not too hip, though.

Yeah, but ROCKVILLE girls really put out.

Would someone care to explain makeout club to me?

Ally how about I give you a ring to figure out Dupont meet-up time. Red line will, as usual, be experiencing delays, or so the Post tells me.

The Post also told me to go eat at Cuban Corner, which I did! My tummy is veryvery full of pork and I am therefore veryvery happy.

WTF "velvety"?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

I am learning so much today.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I'm in the same timezone scratching my arse and waiting for people to do jobs before I can do mine, I just heard an a/c engineer say the 'flow switch', whatever that is installed '90 degrees to what it should be'. Which means no firing up our machines for a while in this windowless box with a portable a/c unit in orlando.

Parallels is good for vmware type stuff.

Ed (dali), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:13 (nineteen years ago)

As you were, I'm bored, hot and with nothing but a blackberry for entertainment.

Ed (dali), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

Orlando, its over 90 down here with humidity and the job I'm on is turning into a farce.

Ed (dali), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

OH RIGHT, are you gonna go to Disneyworld or what?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:26 (nineteen years ago)

props on fahrenheit!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

At the rate this is going I'll be working all weekend, but if I get time I want to go to the kennedy space centre.

Fox 35 doesn't do centigrade.

So, should I by a ford F-150 or a toyota FJ-cruiser on the holy day of car buying or whatever holiday you're celebrating on monday, apparently they're practically paying me to buy a car?

Ed (dali), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

xpost F-350. The 150 is for pussies.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:37 (nineteen years ago)

I think the F-150 suits you, you seem like the kind of man who'd be comfortable driving the most popular vehicle in the United States.

Monday is Millions Of Bikers In Downtown DC Day.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:43 (nineteen years ago)

Make sure you get the dual rear wheel package.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

whatch'all doing this fine holiday weekend?

me: wonderland tonight, sidewalk sale tomorrow, visiting used bookstores, packing, trying to maintain decent relations with wife whilst packing

mookieproof (mookieproof), Friday, 26 May 2006 18:46 (nineteen years ago)

Wahey, the a/c unit has been under specced for this room, plus we have an 'airflow problem'.

I've never really been an suv fan but I do like the look of the fj-cruiser, there's one parked outside.

Ed (dali), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:16 (nineteen years ago)

trying to maintain decent relations with wife whilst packing

Good luck with that. At one point during our most recent moved I was "fired" as wifey and ordered out of the house for the remainder of the day. I grabbed a six pack out of the fridge and proceeded to drink it on the back patio while Mr. Q threw things in boxes in a most haphazard fashion.

I'm off for FOUR WHOLE DAYS starting now! I have all sorts of plans including, but not limited to, attacking piles of New Yorkers and other assorted reading material; attacking piles of weeds in the garden; OT with Mary and the gang; farmer's market/cooking up a storm on Sunday; maybe painting hallway (or not); riding bike; figuring out August vacation schedule; getting rid of stuff; aquiring stuff; drinking stuff; hanging with Mr. Q.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:22 (nineteen years ago)

Hi Ed!

You girls better meet by at least 12:15 in Dupont. Nothern VA traffic does not move at a high speed. Cool, see everyone tomorrow in OT and hopefully later at Bliss (I hear they play the Smiths?)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

Fair enough--Ally, let's shoot for 12:15. We could always just score a ride on the back of some Rolling Thunder dude's Harley!

Oh I'm also going to apply for some non-military-industrial complex jobs this weekend. Mookie how many beers would you charge for a resume proofread? Brian has made it prettier and Mr. Q has made it less abominably worded, but it could be full of typos for all I can tell at this point! This is a major issue when applying for editor positions, obv.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

(I can also proofread if MK is busy. Or we could both do it. Two eyes are better than one.)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:32 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks Mary! I keep forgetting there are lots of word-oriented dcilxors. Dar1a g., too! And ZR! And Stephen X! Writers/editors all.

I don't know where we all belong, because apparently makeout club does not want us.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 26 May 2006 20:53 (nineteen years ago)

I only write XHTML/CSS now and it ALMOST validates I swear!

otherwise my grasp on the English language is in decline! but yeah, I will gladly proof it if you like.

OK, see yall tomorrow, I am off to have korean food

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 26 May 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Guys the Seattle airport is halfway to being an especially upscale LL Bean outlet store, with airy tasteful blond wood waiting areas with _rocking chairs_ in them looking out at ye stately pine groves. It's like they're saying "COME TO SEATTLE, WHERE WOODSY PEOPLE GO TO RETIRE. ENJOY YOUR NAP." Whatever happened to those scrappy grunge kids anyway?

Everyone OTM about the dangers of couples packing; the chick here can't stand to be in the same room as me when we're packing for a weekend, let alone a major life move. Get thee to a birreria.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 26 May 2006 23:26 (nineteen years ago)

Okay now those Old Town shopping photos are kind of scaring me.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 26 May 2006 23:27 (nineteen years ago)

You don't want a pretty flower dress?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Saturday, 27 May 2006 00:23 (nineteen years ago)

Mookie how many beers would you charge for a resume proofread?

for you, pretty lady, one (1) beer. but a) i have a hard time imagining that you really need a proofreader, and b) i ain't got no job, so what do i know about resumes?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Saturday, 27 May 2006 01:49 (nineteen years ago)

Hey y'all. That was fun; thanks for coming to my neck of the woods.

Brian, are you there now? (Of course not: you are eating a gourmet meal.) Anyway, I think I will stop by the Black Cat tonight. Want to kick off the summer right with some indie pop.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 27 May 2006 23:28 (nineteen years ago)

I had an elaborate two course dinner of chips and beer. I'll probably get to the Black Cat around 11:15 - The Rosebuds are on at 11, dancing will follow.

Okay--I'll look for you. I hope the DJ is in a Brit pop mood.

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 28 May 2006 00:53 (nineteen years ago)

OT adventure was great! Thank you Mary for serving as our intrepid guide, braving the dangers of OT weekend parking and nutso shopkeepers. I'm totally game for a reprise, as there are still shoe, lingerie, and book stores to conquer!

Speaking of game, although I did not make out quite as well as Ally, who totally won the OT shopping prize (when will you debut your superhero tennis player outfit, Ally? I must see it on!), I did in fact score a mint condition thrift store Pass the Pigs, which I will break out at the next FAP, which should be Tuesday, and which everyone should attend. Bedrock Billiards is perfect for pig passing, but I'm game for anywhere. Shit, I'll have the day off, so I may start FAPing all by my lonesome at, like, 10 a.m.

O.K. now I need to procure a Post and find one (1) job. Hope everyone is having a great holiday weekend!

quincie (quincie), Sunday, 28 May 2006 18:02 (nineteen years ago)

From the mosquito thread:

One of my aunts came back from a vacation to Alaska and said, "They've got mosquitoes up there big enough to fuck a turkey."

Stephen, I expect a full mosquito report when you get back (I used to work on arboviruses and have an inordiate amount of interest in their vectors). Or perhaps it is still too cold up there? I hope for your sake it is!

quincie (quincie), Sunday, 28 May 2006 18:11 (nineteen years ago)

I think I did pretty well in old town just for that incredibly excellent dinner. that was so nice. today I am sitting at home doing nothing after having a little too much gin and staying out wayyy late last night. oops. I think the bar mixed the drinks super strong. I am also pretty certain I spotted the Wonkette sitting at an outdoor cafe table on 18th st on that block with Lauriol Plaza.

now playing on wpgc: go-go cover of that ashlee simpson song, what is it. 'pieces of me.' it's amazing how annoying songs suddenly become kind of ok in the go-go version.

dar1a g (daria g), Monday, 29 May 2006 00:38 (nineteen years ago)

note: if you ever want to sell some books, the place to go is riverby books on capitol hill. i sold two boxes of books for $105, which is a hell of a lot better than credit at second story.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 29 May 2006 02:17 (nineteen years ago)

Damn capitalist. Think of all the good those books could have done your local library:)

Black Cat was really fun. Brian says that Mousetrap will be a good fit for me so you all have to attend.

I guess I'm the only one that got food or alcohol poisoning and has been sick the rest of the weekend?

Q, you can send me you res, this is not my actual e-mail but if you click on it it will send thru.

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 May 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

hey everybody - happy mem day.

ally/mary/quincie/dar1a - im not sure if all of you went "OT" shopping, but what is "OT" shopping?

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

additionally, the ape is preparing to take flight in about a half-hour.

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Welcome to the OT, bitch. (Why, it's Old Town of course.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

(PS: My mom told me that all the bikers were in town for a Memorial Day Cofab, which makes a lot of sense, when you think about it.)

Mary (Mary), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

oh oh oh OT.

all the bikes out for rolling thunder are sooooo coooool.

and finally, the rare essence "pieces of me" is totally one of my favorite things about 2005.

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

ha, i actually took the four boxes of books that riverby didn't buy straight to the library, which makes like ten boxes in the last month. bitches didn't even say thank you.

hey does anybody want a pair of speakers? baby advents, roughly each the size of a large dictionary. i give them to you free!

goodbye the ape; sorry i never met you :(

mookieproof (mookieproof), Monday, 29 May 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

Bye, BLAM! Come back and visit soon.

Thanks, Mary--I'll send the res your way. Sorry you don't feel so good :(

Daerest cute Pilpel bikini:

You so small, so why you so much money?

Seriously, bathing suit prices per square inch are just ridiculous. That said, I did spend another lovely hour or so with Elsa of Sylene, where said bikini was located. I think I may just suck it up and buy it even though it will cost me more than at least one of my nice wool business suits.

Oh, and as Mr. Q. and I both have tomorrow off and can thus maximize P. Paradiso's beeradiso happy hour, we will be there from five on if anyone can swing by after work. I can only stay until until eight or so, because I need to get home to watch the first part of a PBS HIV/AIDS series. I R dork, I know.

quincie (quincie), Monday, 29 May 2006 18:40 (nineteen years ago)

Also, if someone would like to explain to me why our VCR can't manage to record PBS stations, that would be great. It seems like something that may require a trip to Radio Shack to remedy??? Something about different formats from other stations??? I don't get it.

quincie (quincie), Monday, 29 May 2006 18:42 (nineteen years ago)

Tivo (or some variation thereof) will make your life easier. Or, you could do what this asshole guy I once interned for and contact the stations directly and have him send them the tapes.

What does bikini look like?

Goodbye Blam, don't forget us.

MK: that is the tough love of the DC library system. When do you leave and shall we see you before you go?

Outings I want to have this summer:

National Zoo
Rock Creek Cemetery
OT Reprise/Del Ray
???

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 01:39 (nineteen years ago)

Forget the coolest thread crew on ILX? Fat fucking chance.

Thanks for all your well wishes - we landed safely, and I am officially a resident of the state of California. Arnold is my governor.

I am currently drinking a Tecate, figuring out how the hell to get downtown tomorrow, and looking forward to back episodes of the Sopranos on demand.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 03:33 (nineteen years ago)

hey dudes! colorado was awesome! I SAW A JUGGALO!

I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

OK am I the only person who doesn't know what a JUGGALO is?

Mary, this is the bikini: http://www.exquisiteswimwear.com/page/E/PROD/pilpel/6-pilpel-olive71354
I dunno, somehow it looks better in person? I mean, not a hundred and twelve dollars better, but somewhat more inspiring than in that picture. The olive color actually suits my paleness.

Holler if anyone wants to lounge around by the pool sometime. I like to go late in the afternoon (four or five-ish), when it is quiet and I can sit and read in the shade and just have a dip to cool off.

Mr Q. and I just had the most awsome day off outing, involving STEAK AND EGG and RODMANS. I can't belive I hadn't been to Rodman's until now--it is my new favorite store! Now we are struggling to close the ancient windows and start the AC--it is fucking HOT out.

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:27 (nineteen years ago)

That suit is quite glamorous. You may not be surprised to learn that I have a suit with cherries on it.

I'd like to go to a pool. Which one do you go to?

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:31 (nineteen years ago)

$224/pound!

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

I will lounge by a pool in future days!

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:35 (nineteen years ago)

Steak n' Egg is amazing.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:38 (nineteen years ago)

I KNOW, RIGHT (about mookie's calculation, that is)? I mean chicks really get screwed on the bathing suit thing in any number of ways. Think of how many pounds of beer 224 bucks would buy!

Le Jardin McLean has a pool, just a short stroll from our bldg (meaning conveniently located to cocktails and snax). It's not the Delano or anything, but pleasant enough. And free! And largely kiddie-free if you time it right

A suit with cherries on it sounds fantastic! And Steak n' Egg was awesome--I could watch short-order cooks all day. I had eggs and sausage and can feel my arteries clogging as we speak. I will flush them free with beer this evening.

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:42 (nineteen years ago)

my understanding is that chicks get screwed on almost everything. ahem. clothing, haircuts, dry cleaning, wedding things, etc. maybe it gets made up for in free drinks from creepy drunks, though.

i'll certainly be fancying a pint tonight but am still in packing hell, while tomorrow is going to be moving hell and i must be operating at full mookie immunity. maybe next week?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Wait, am I getting fucked at the dry cleaner, too? This is news to me; I'll have to investigate.

It has been a long time since a creepy drunk has bought me drinks--I must be losing my touch.

Will the hunan contingent be congregating tomorrow? I'll be at 21st and H, which is maybe kinda sorta in the vicinity? Anyhow, if anyone wants to meet up for lunch downtown I'm free from 12:30 to 1:30.

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 18:59 (nineteen years ago)

I am unsure what to tell you guys about first:

The beautiful weather, the ranting of an angry man on the LA Metro this morning, or the fact that the next two months are going to look like this:

with the spike being legal knowledge and the head being my head.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 19:09 (nineteen years ago)

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

My cherry suit cost about $20, but it probably looks it. Those of us in the library science field cannot afford to spend mad money but must rather dedicate our lives to knowledge.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 30 May 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

a fabulous suit might vouchsafe you some carnal knowledge...

ILXOR LUNCH? Q has tasked me with posting as she is downtown BUT without interweb. The HUNAN will be a substantial walk as she's around GW - perhaps THE BURRO or THE CAFE ASIA around 12:45?

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

why no love for THE C.F. FOLKS?

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

how far away are those establishments? i no know the directions so good.

I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:57 (nineteen years ago)

today's specials

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

THE BURRO is in the mini-mall at 2000 Penn, CAFE ASIA is on I between 17th & 18th. I figured CF FOLKS was a bit far north for today, but would be an excellent idea when we are not burdened by someone's stupid conference schedule.

Nice one, Pete.

Hey, can anyone suggest a mom-friendly restaurant in the vicinity of the Carter Baron Ampitheatre?

Also, getting tickets for Pericles is really easy. I showed up at the Shakespeare Theater at 1.30, asked if they still had tix available, they said yes and handed them to me. No line.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

Jesus, that's a, um, healthy cat.

Alaska mosquitos are big enough to carry off a bison, but they're sloowww....you can pinch them to death in midair. Must be due to having no natural predators or kids with flyswatters around.

Grizzly bears aren't bullshitting, btw; they're giant-sized and badass, and there's pretty much nothing you can do if they decide to, say, saunter through the valley where you're camped at 9 am.

I'm taking my mandatory day-after-a-redeye sick day; where my unemployed people at?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 18:49 (nineteen years ago)

i think today might be the ape's first full day of CA bar class

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 18:51 (nineteen years ago)

At some point we've got to do a classy downtowner happy hour at Taberna del Alabardero. Half price tapas and $12 pitchers of sangria until 7pm!

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Brian you and I must be on the same culinary wavelength today because I was thinking along those lines when I passed the Taberna on the way to meet ya'll for lunch. Which was lovely! I was all fired up about finding a job in the city until it was time to catch the bus home. I swear I waited for over half an hour and of course when the bus finally showed it was pretty packed. But lo! What's this? An empty seat near the back! So I bust my way through the crowd to get there only to find that the reason the seat was empty is because SOMEONE HAD PEED ON IT. THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF PEE IN THE SEAT.

So yeah, my city naivete is not limited to catching my heel in sidewalk grates TWICE.

Oh and when I stopped by Mr. Q.'s office after the conference to get bus money, I mentioned BATTING CAGE and was all I WOULD TOTALLY GO TO A BATTING CAGE, THAT WOULD BE AWESOME. So there you have it--a bro-centric answer to ilxdchixors take OT.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:24 (nineteen years ago)

I mean HE (Mr. Q.) was all into batting cage. I'm not going near a batting cage. I'll just meet you at the strip joint afterwards.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Batting cage!! My enthusiasm for batting cage is not at all diminished by my complete incompetence at, you know, batting. What's more fun than swinging a club at a pitching robot?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 21:56 (nineteen years ago)

Stephen, I don't think you're supposed to swing at the robot.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 22:02 (nineteen years ago)

NO ROBOT THROWS AT ME AND LIVES.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 22:03 (nineteen years ago)

And it's totally sweet that Quincie stopped by Mr. Q's office to get lunch money bus money.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 22:04 (nineteen years ago)

where my unemployed people at?

holla! stephen x, that was a quick trip. i too want to go to the batting cages--in fact, now that i'm in arlington with nuthin to do, maybe i shall.

i'm really thirsty.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 1 June 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

Holla, indeed. Today was the first full day of bar review classes, and its going alright - we started with the class that I got my worst grade on in law school, so there is an automatic block on my part to be scared of it. Once we get to other stuff, I'll feel better. The method is a good one - encouragement of memorization via repetition and simplification. Basically, exactly what you would need for a good score on the exam.

The sheer enormity of the task is hella daunting, however. Ugh.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Thursday, 1 June 2006 04:51 (nineteen years ago)

I wanna go back home, dudes. This day is totally slow already.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 1 June 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

I hope you enjoy roasting your ass off.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:05 (nineteen years ago)

I want to blow up a delicatessen today.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:16 (nineteen years ago)

You know what the best thing to do on an 85-degree day with 127% humidity is? Stand outside for an hour with 3000 of your coworkers listening to the fire alarm because someone burned their toast in the cafeteria again.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:25 (nineteen years ago)

I do that regardless, with or without my coworkers. It's a way to break up the monotony.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 1 June 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Pericles was really good. You guys should go.

Ugh, batting cage. It's like 2003 NYC all over again.

So what is everyone doing this Saturday? Would anyone like to finish what we started in OT (with a Del Ray extension) or go to the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens or do anything fun that does not involve either word bat or cage?

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 1 June 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Let's do Survey Of Economics & Finance For Engineering Management homework. No bats, no cages, just finding the economic viability of investments using PW, FW and a little thing called IRR (also known as discounted cash flow). Keep your MARR under 20% plz.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 1 June 2006 17:04 (nineteen years ago)

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 1 June 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

Oh that sounds nice, I'd be ok with going with you guys.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and general announcement

LADIES OF DC: If you are wearing a skirt with a slit up the back, please either find a lined one or figure out how to forgo the slip, ok? Thanks.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:10 (nineteen years ago)

turn off your computer

If only that were an option at the moment. Editing on hard copy may be totally passe, but it sure is easier on the eyes. I think I may just switch to hard copy and then go back and key my edits--an inefficient use of time, yes, but I'm seriously going cross-eyed here.

xpost Oh noes? Did you see this on the street or is it someone in your office?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

eyestrain can generally be remedied by looking up or away from the screen to focus on something far away. I have to do that sometimes when I drive, but almost never with computers or tv or video games.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:14 (nineteen years ago)

(I know it is bad that I have a tendency to focus on exactly the same point in the distance for long periods of time when I drive but we're talking about long stretches of sparsely populated interstate not y'know new hampshire ave)

Q every 15 minutes you just have to highlight your place in the text and turn your head! Eyestrain will eventually turn into a migraine if you don't and then your life is shit.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:16 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah I don't think I've ever heard someone say they got eyestrain driving. I was hoping someone knew of some amazing monitor screen thingie that would make everything ten times more wonderful. I actually miss my old behemoth monitor--text looks fuzzy on my flat screen, and tweaking with resolution and whatnot doesn't seem to help.

Speaking of fashion faux pas there was yet another rant about flip-flops in the Post today, complete with incriminating photos.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:21 (nineteen years ago)

flatscreens are bad like that occasionally. if it has its own little row of buttons you have to use them a la TV, to find the place in the menu where it says "reset factory settings" and then hopefully it will automatically adjust itself to your resolution/refresh rate

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

You could try increasing the display size on your monitor (in control panel --> display --> appearance), I have mine at 1280 by 1040 for web development purposes but if you took it all the way down to 800 by 600? Or just increase the text size or view..

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:27 (nineteen years ago)

It's not in my office, the slip thing, but all week all over downtown I have been seeing ladies wearing slips that are far too long for the slits on their skirts. It's awful.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 2 June 2006 16:57 (nineteen years ago)

hey everybody!

comcast experience today was sorta ok: 4/10, way up from their 0/10 average.

now im at work and we have no email server, so im drafting necessary emails in word, and ill send them as soon as i can. isnt that a little pathetic?

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

ok so instead of rereviving the stupid annoying coworkers thread (and anyway this particular winner isn't stupid or necessarily even annoying) I'm just gonna announce right here that D4 V3 D 4 Nd 4R of the M17r3 Croprotation is a PLUMB BUDDYFUCKIN ASSWIPE DICKTRON of the 11th degree and I'm not ever talking to him again unless absolutely required to and then only in the coldest and most perfunctory etiquette-satisfying fashion. Fuckwad, you do not LIE to the unit chief to try to get my team in trouble, I KNOW you know how to read syslog and you LIED to stab us in the back and put analysts' heads on the block, probably not for the first time, but you got CAUGHT this instance and BIG UPS to my new boss and SA KJ for nailing your scrawny bullshit ass to the wall on it.

can't you use your new gov't death hack skills to inflict some sort of retribution?

I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog (teenagequiet), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

the lie in question was that one of us had attempted to use "death hack skills" to zap a russian spyware site or something, so probably not a good idea. retribution in this case is pretty much covered by karma, I mean every decent human being in the office hates him and he's now damaged his relationship with the only fucko who ever listened to him (the UC) by getting caught lying and/or being pretty goddamned incompetent depending on your perspective.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 2 June 2006 17:26 (nineteen years ago)

I put a call into Gregggggg to ask about staff at the PR&Partners OT branch, but he hasn't called me back yet. I'll see him in person for cut next week, anyway.

Brian or others, do you have opinions on kitchen countertop material? Please don't say granite because I hate working on it--it's too hard and I'm too clumsy. But the stuff I have now looks like utter shit and it is time to start thinking about replacing it.

Q, if granite is too hard a surface for your use you may want to look at a butcher block - the one at 2 Amy's is a great example.

I am ready to kill myself and eat my dog (teenagequiet), Saturday, 3 June 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

d'oh, I was hoping that vintage virginia thing involved the sale of lots and lots of old money designer fashion stored away in attics for decades. but no, it's wine.

dar1a g (daria g), Saturday, 3 June 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Honfest is really good? I saw the remains of it last year and it looked a bit . . . commercial?

I found out what the coffee beans were for at Bellacara--apparently after you smell six scents your olfactory sense deadens, but can be revived by smelling coffee beans.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 3 June 2006 19:18 (nineteen years ago)

Try saying "smell six scents" fast ten times! Hard!

My Bellacara smelly candle smells good, BTW. And the snobby ladies in there now look like pussycats compared to crazy American in Paris lady. WTF kind of name for a shop is that, anyway? Those dresses weren't French!

Q, if granite is too hard a surface for your use you may want to look at a butcher block - the one at 2 Amy's is a great example.

You know what this means. . . we must all FAP at 2 Amy's to see if we all like the butcher block! Although I fear this may not be a good countertop choice for us as Mr. Q. is in charge of all kitchen cleaning and does best with surfaces that are low-maintenence and unfuckupable.

Which apparently does not include carpet--one day I came home to the very strong smell of Tilex permeating the apartment. This seemed odd, as I am in charge bathroom cleaning and I knew there wasn't anything in there that needed Tilex-ing. That stuff is toxic as hell! Anyhow, I asked Mr. Q. what was up and he said all self-righteously that the cat had puked on the carpet, and he had cleaned it up. That's right, folks, he cleaned the CARPET with TILEX. Carpet was fucked, BTW. So I worry what he might manage to do to butcher block.

But I love that zodiaq stuff--it is basically Dupont's answer to Silestone, yes? I had considered Silestone but didn't like the colors so much. . . but I like the zodiaq minera pearl, alpha brown, and, yes, ASTRAL PEARL. I'll order samples and we can decide by committee.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. I'm actually kind of pissed that it didn't rain (as promised) because now I have to go out and water the tomatoes.

quincie (quincie), Sunday, 4 June 2006 17:15 (nineteen years ago)

That lady was a treat! "Oh, you can't move the hangers, you see? Now the dresses don't look sexy..!" I still wonder if the problem isn't that she gets packs of spoiled high schoolers coming in and messing up her store. Surely she could let us alone seeing as how we're adults and all. it's kind of tacky and leaves a terrible impression.

dar1a g (daria g), Sunday, 4 June 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

That lady/store was terrifying! It's all worth it though if Q. gets a Mischa Barton–esque tunic. Today I made the dumb mistake of entering Urban Outfitters without my wallet. I had a return so had $34 in credit but was $6 short to buy the black Vans I wanted:(

Steph: Where is LM-654 A/B? I have a class at the LOC tomorrow night. Also is there any where to park during the hours between 4 and 8?

Mary (Mary), Sunday, 4 June 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm...that's on the 6th floor of the Madison building, but I'm not sure which core it's in. I'll def track it down for you tomorrow am--it's too easy to get lost in there without guidance. Sadly, as a pedestrian I know nothing about parking, but will keep an eye out for spots on the way in.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Monday, 5 June 2006 01:52 (nineteen years ago)

Quincie, that's quite a rigorous division of household labor you've got going there. My apartment would probably be a little less squalid if someone, anyone, was "in charge" of some kind of cleaning.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Monday, 5 June 2006 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

Mr. Q. drew the line at hanging a "wheel of duties" on the fridge, like my apartment-mates and I did in college. Ann Marie made it with crayons and construction paper and everyone made fun of it, but our apartment stayed reasonable clean and we never argued over housekeeping. I got to keep the wheel when we graduated--I should find it and have it made into a shirt a la UH.

ng-unit (ng-unit), Monday, 5 June 2006 13:55 (nineteen years ago)

Mary, your classroom should be easy to find.

When you come into the building, just take the main bank of elevators--they're off to the right of the big entry hall, across from the information desk. Once you reach the sixth floor, leave the elevator bay and cross the foyer; there should be some old globes on your left and an Alan Lomax wall-text exhibit in front of you. You'll turn right into a gloomy corridor, and your room will be along the left-hand wall.

I got nothing on the parking, though; you might have some luck with the residential streets or the bar strip of Pennsyslvania. Good luck!

Stephen X (Stephen X), Monday, 5 June 2006 13:58 (nineteen years ago)

Last week was hot! Like 97 hot. And somewhat humid - although not the swamp DC is right now. So, today, on my walk to the Metro, it was cloudy and cool - San Francisco style, but in LA. I didn't even break a sweat walking home from the train this afternoon. Holla, morning fog. Holla back, June Gloom.

Things are hilariously busy right now, but not terrible. Last two months - gotta fight through the bar exam (do it once, do it right, and never do it again) get a job, and then relax into being a California resident.

I miss you guys. Keep me up on shit.

Brian this is the kind of question I would expect you of all people to have some kind of genius answer for! How many does "in bulk" mean, approximately? And may we inquire exactly what sort of project this is for? Is Martha Stewart involved?

Guys, I just got one of my mom's occasional mystery packages featuring items she has found for approximately 82.7% off the original price. For Mr. Q: Michael Kors shirt. For me: black linen skirt. From Talbots.

Wow, I really don't understand DC/Cap Hill. How am I supposed to get to 2nd and C when there are three possible variations of that formula that will not deposit me to the right address? Parking is null--they barely even let you drive down the adjacant streets--and anywhere you might want to turn/pull over is blocked off/guarded by militia. There's parking on res streets--if you can get to one without being derailed by one-ways and honking motorists, but it's for only two hours and lasts until 8.30. I think I will be a subway baby for this one.

I ate at Aatish on the Hill, Indian/Pakistani restaurant. The service was lovely, but I'm not sure that their miniature tofu hot dog version of malai kofta was the best possible interpretation. I passed Hawk and Dove and Tune Inn and still await the Cap Hill fap/gawking at baby-faced interns.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 01:07 (nineteen years ago)

Brian this is the kind of question I would expect you of all people to have some kind of genius answer for! How many does "in bulk" mean, approximately? And may we inquire exactly what sort of project this is for? Is Martha Stewart involved?

srsly I have no clue where to get bulk mussel shells. I need enough to cover about a 60' x 4' wall in a restaurant. Martha is not involved, but speaking of which where the fuck is my June issue of Living? It should be a good one since May was crap, I figured they were saving the good stuff.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 01:23 (nineteen years ago)

Although generally Fall/Winter issues of Living >>> Spring/Summer issues.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 01:24 (nineteen years ago)

Except the Easter issue, duh squared.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 01:25 (nineteen years ago)

Damn, sorry Mary--I forgot to warn you about the heavily armed street theater troupe that ruins traffic on the hill all day every day. Glad you didn't get lost in the building, though; you could've wandered into a preservation department and never been seen again.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 12:58 (nineteen years ago)

Brian, you read "Martha Stewart Living"? How is it? Should I subscribe? I have a subscription to "Rachael Ray Everyday" and got my first issue the other day, and that was pretty great! I'm thinking that maybe I need Martha for froo froo balance?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

ALLY DO YOU LOVE RR?

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

Brian, I'm pretty sure this is the sort of request that would reveal your identity as a mad scientist in any decent Saturday morning cartoon. "He's buying up all the mussel shells in Gotham--he must have some nefarious plan!"

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

I don't love her.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:17 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks, T-BOT. The names of some of those mussel types are almost as good as Q's tomato varities!

I got dibs on "Undulating Venus"

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:22 (nineteen years ago)

Not Purple Nut?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ally, Martha Stewart Living is generally pretty good - not just a broad spactrum of advice on how to make your environment & food better, but a variety of styles and difficulties ranging from "no problem you can hammer this out in half an hour to "haha there's no way you can do more than just look at the photos unless you've got a staff of twelve at your disposal".

And the subscription is seriously cheap, so if you just get a couple of good things out of it a year it's worth it.

example: Martha drops mad easter egg science

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

Whoa that's a recipe for me cursing the shit out of my kitchen trying to do that.

What is up with the mussel dealers of America? That entire list could've been lifted from the menu of a Bangkok brothel.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:07 (nineteen years ago)

How am I supposed to get to 2nd and C when there are three possible variations of that formula that will not deposit me to the right address?

I still get lost around there. However, if you run Google Maps and look up around 7th/8th and E St NE (zoom in) there are some out-of-the-way side streets where parking is still zoned but it is rare that parking squad actually patrols - they generally aren't too zealous once you get about 5-6 blocks east of Union station.

If you can take Metro it's easier (Capitol South), especially if you have trouble parking on city streets.

dar1a g (daria g), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, a few weeks back I got ferociously lost around Cap. Hill and ended up walking from Union Station to Stadium/Armory. Good times.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 6 June 2006 18:48 (nineteen years ago)

No role playing, thank god, but much watching of video "scenarios" and "breaking out" into groups for "discussion" about "appropriate actions."

Also video message from CEO and some corporate lawyer, both of who gave barf-worthy cue-card readings about "values" etc. etc. JUST KILL ME, OK!

OK, I'm off to the post site to check job listings. HOW'S THAT FOR ABUSE OF COMPANY RESOURCES, HUH?

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

I think there's a new potential happy hour spot! The Red Derby, a new bar in Adams Morgan above Santa Rosa, a few doors down from Soussi. Divey, beer in cans only, red walls, mirrors, and red lighting. Plenty seating. Open at 6pm.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

mookieproof (mookieproof), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 13:10 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

Mary--Bar Pilar, maybe? Or perhaps Brian has a different pre-salt suggestion in the neighborhood.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 18:55 (nineteen years ago)

Pilar's good, but I really like The Saloon a few blocks up U St. near Ben's.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

Saloon and/or Pilar are fine with me, though I am getting drowsy. Let me bust out the ice cafe. (My mom went to Pope Yes again today.)

ZR, I'm not sure I'm going to be here this weekend, but if I were to be, and did go to HF, would you and your gf be able to show me the ropes?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:08 (nineteen years ago)

Let's say Saloon around nine, then. I'll be camped out with reading material, so whoever can make it, see you there!

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:11 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome, be careful though. I just read a write-up of the Saloon, and apparently reading is forbidden, you must rather join in passionate conversations about global warning. See you at nine!

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:13 (nineteen years ago)

Oh shit, I forgot to see 'An Inconvenient Truth.' How inconvenient!

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:15 (nineteen years ago)

I like the Saloon b/c they require all patrons at the bar to take a seat--no standing allowed. It's like the world's strictest ice cream parlor, but with beer.

Although conversation is encouraged and is readily available, I've been able to secure some solitary reading time there when I've wanted it. Perhaps due to my special freeze-out techniques.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:17 (nineteen years ago)

No standing allowed! What if all the available seats are taken? Do you have to wait outside like at NYC's Angel Share?

Are there any other rules I should know about? I feel I am going to commit major faux pas just by walking in the door.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 19:46 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah Stephen, please come so that we don't screw up and get kicked to the curb!

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 22:58 (nineteen years ago)

oh, and daria, i remember you mentioned races - apparently there are lots of bus tours that go to Nascar races. I could, for instance, take the Hampton Jitney (!) to Pocono this weekend, but I think I have too much work to do and two (2) parents to see and two (2) black and blue toes to elevate to do that.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Wednesday, 7 June 2006 23:02 (nineteen years ago)

O conveys: "To A, if and when he marries." A is unmarried.

A has a springing executory interest
O has a fee simple, subject to A's springing executory interest

This conveyance does not violate the Rule against Perpetuities

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 8 June 2006 16:20 (nineteen years ago)

Man my opportunity to finally see it and I pussed out.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 8 June 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

That was fun. I love the Saloon and will definitely go back there, possibly alone, and if I get my courage up with a book.

You guys must be tired today. I am fine as I don't work till 5 on Thursdays.

I'm glad I managed to get my SALT glasses after forgetting them, but did you guys do a lock-in after we left or something? The Other Brian had a suspicious look which made me suspect that after we left you brought out the naked dancing girls and really got the party started.

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:21 (nineteen years ago)

OK Mary and others I totally failed at sending my first TEXT MESSAGE. My phone is trying to second-guess my typing, sticking words I DON'T WANT--I can't get anything coherent out! WTF am I doing wrong?

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

And yeah, I realize this makes me sound like a zillion year old Luddite.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

(x-post) The other Brian always has a suspicious look, Mary.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

I love the other brian (hereafter denoted by TOB), by the way. I can totally see why you ditched your first college roommate for him!

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:27 (nineteen years ago)

q, that is just what phones do. Mine is convinced that, when I type the word "you," I am actually typing the word "wmt." Which, you might notice, ISN'T EVEN A WORD.

Guys, I wanna make a folder in my work e-mail titled "Retards." Is this ok or possible HR disaster?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ha ha Ally you're gonna quit and start the rocket tits band anyway, go for it!

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

call it 'TYNANS' instead. Obfuscation!!

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:30 (nineteen years ago)

I was trying to say he had a suspicious mien, but I blanked on the word and could only come up with metier, which made no sense, so I went for look. He was very sweet: you have excellent roommate choosing abilities.

A: Maybe if you use the French for "retards," which perhaps D knows?

Q: You need a low-tech phone like mine that does do any "predictive texting."

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

I even tried to find some way to turn off this stupid predictive texting, but couldn't figure it out. How the hell am I going to make this work? It won't let me, like, delete its word and enter my own! That thing is more sophisticated than my computer here at work, I swear.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:35 (nineteen years ago)

Only not so much because it sucks.

quincie (quincie), Thursday, 8 June 2006 18:36 (nineteen years ago)

I think you have to teach it around the predictive texting, but I'm not sure, as I don't have that version myself.

I can't believe I missed SALT again, plus good times at the Saloon.

Instead I am in a small town in the middle of the country for Ms. Significant's high school reunion, god help me. I feel it's my responsibility to a) make her look good in front of her lame classmates, b) take advantage of the open bar and make an ass of myself. Can anyone think of a way to reconcile these two impulses?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 9 June 2006 01:29 (nineteen years ago)

a) you make her look good by just showing up and being mr. x
b) go!

And make it play "crescendolls" over and over. But with nick from chicago's idea that it should say "nintendogs" instead of "crescendolls" or whatever the sample actually says.
And I'd send that T-shirt to MIKE.

We should let WHYIHATEDC dude have a Hunter Age 3 shirt, so he can stop feeling bad about not being a capitool.

Thanks Z! Is A. dresing for the occassion? Are the beehives free? Is there a good spot I could meet you, and any other Ilxers who are making the trip out? My one concern is that it is STAY AWAY DAY on the Wilson Bridge, which doesn't augur well for me getting to B'more.

yeah, if anyone wants to coordinate meetup times and places and all that good stuff, just email me for my number. seems like it'd be easier to get stuff together that way.

...122 hours of beer (part 2) (teenagequiet), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:33 (nineteen years ago)

Hey Tom, do you want to try inviting your friends who live 5 minutes outside B'more and go there all the time anyway? Since they completely ignored the fact that I said anything at all last time I brought up the topic? And usually do when I'm the one doing any kind of inviting?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 14:40 (nineteen years ago)

Seven in the morning or seven at night? Seven at night might miss too much honisety. I'll e-mail you Z. I guess I could just drive through DC old-school style. There website says to follow signs to parking--do you think that is trustworthy?

2. Direct costs = knife and labor vs keg and labor

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 15:52 (nineteen years ago)

What you're not factoring in is

catching a wild animal and ripping its face off v pouring Guinness

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:41 (nineteen years ago)

some people prefer mosquitoes to air conditioning. some people like mariah carey better than daft punk. it takes all kinds.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

Mariah Carey rips the faces off wild animals?? Awesome

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

consider THIS: the more practice you get, the less time it takes for you to capture a wild animal and rip its face off. No matter HOW much you practice, pouring a Guinness always takes fucking forever.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

mariah carey and ann coulter should rip each other's faces off. more crazy bitches do PCP please

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:44 (nineteen years ago)

Mariah is the best kind of crazy

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 9 June 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

The Very Best of David Hasselhoff WTF?

Mary, Gregggggggg was entirely unhelpful in recommending from someone at OT PR&Partners. Basically I just think his ego will not allow him to concede that someone other than him could do a worthy job. So maybe trip up to Rockville (we could do dinner and japanese snax store!) or dar1a's French dude ('cause her cut is great!) or Luna?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Oh and Brian: for some reason it has taken me a really long time to ask what the 'T' in SALT stands for???

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

I think I need to go back to paying lots of money for haircuts. :( Or maybe I should just call place with two of the same names with me and ask where to contact former employee with the same name as me.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:08 (nineteen years ago)

Oh hey speaking of haircuts, would Greg with 7 g's be more likely to recommend if it was for a girl with long hair? Or is he good at long hair? Should I just chance and go to a different PR & Partners? Because I am unhappy with the results of my haircut of a few days ago.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

I've never had a long style with Gregggggggggg but I think he'd be fine--he's v. good at graduated bob-type styles and long hair is kind of a v. long graduated bob, sort of? I know he flatly refused to do updos for weddings and proms and stuff, which I take as a sign of good long-hair taste.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

TEETH

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

According to their website, Gregggggggg is a Bumble & Bumble educator! I'm impressed but wtf does that mean?

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

It means unless you restrict him to one (1) styling product, he will put six different B&B concoctions in your hair. He will sometimes do this even if you try to restrict him!

I'm trying to get my head around 'sad and lonely teeth.'

Also: I just watched the Tynan Delong video resume for the first time.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:00 (nineteen years ago)

I think we should somehow get him a gig as videographer for the next capital club soiree. Because I need some more roffles.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Favorite part of the video resume: scrolling text underneath while interviewing the one chiky-dee that finishes off with declaring that Tynan sucks.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

Hmm, does he think that everyone at OT sucks? I may just see who's available there and leave it to fate.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

He definitely didn't think the OT crowd sucked, he just said he "wasn't familiar with their styles." Whatever that means. But it wasn't derogatory, more of a why-wouldn't-she-just-come-to-fabulous-me attitude.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:24 (nineteen years ago)

Rockville's okay for a one-off, but if I really liked him, it would be kind of a trek for me. I think I must find my own Greggg.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 9 June 2006 18:53 (nineteen years ago)

Dan it took me a while to get Brian's joke too. However despite its cheapness I managed to giggle to myself all the way from 10th & D to Metro Center like a psychopath. I have some questions for you all:

1. Why did the weather have to turn shit right before quittin' time?
2. Why do I keep returning to the Half Smoke With Mustard Und Kraut even though I know from multiple peer-reviewed empirical studies what happens to me afterwards?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 9 June 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Mary: I actually am not sure if we are still hanging out with him, there is intrigues etc and things to consider but the tentative plan is to hang out tonight. Tomorrow we are going to head into B'more around 7 or so and...I don't know, what is in B'more actually.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Saturday, 10 June 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

Hi guys.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 10 June 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

HELLO. NICK.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Saturday, 10 June 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Pete slept on our futon.

n/a (Nick A.), Saturday, 10 June 2006 21:59 (nineteen years ago)

Pete tried to pressure me into feeling less manly because Amanda and Mary and Whatsername all got fabulous beehives at honfest while my wife did not.

But then the Fake Accents proceeded to disappoint terribly with a COMPLETE LACK OF EQUIPMENT MALFUNCTIONS during their entire set, unless you count MATHEMETICIAN DRUMMER FORGETTING DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE NUMBER "FOUR" AND THE NUMBER "ONE" as an equipment malfunction (I myself come from a genre where the drummer is always equipment, hence). The banter, however, was completely awkward. Our man Zack delivered admirably, perhaps to make up for not breaking any of his pedals or strings as promised in the venue website copy.

BTW the music was great. Best FA's set we've heard to date.

Also Baltimore still sucks. On the way to grab late night eats we found our first two choices closed (this never happens!! - matt) and settled for brick oven pizza, where right outside we got to witness a man run headlong out of a bar, bodily smash the side mirror completely off of some poor illegally parked bastard's import sedan, trip, stumble, and faceplant into the sidewalk, at which point a bouncer who already had blood on his shirt came out and went after him. When we left there were about three guys putting what appeared to be a lot of effort into getting dude to stand up. Seemed like a lost cause. Oh, Bmorepaws.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Sunday, 11 June 2006 06:30 (nineteen years ago)

Damnit, I miss Baltimore. Sort of a mix between "Man, I'm so glad I'm not THOSE guys" and "Man, I miss being one of THOSE guys."

Glad to hear that the equipment malfunctions are going around, even if the equipment in question is Pete's internal abacus.

Big Loud Ape Mountain (Big Loud Mountain Ape), Sunday, 11 June 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

Omigosh, I just undid my hair and took a shower. I feel so completely un-fabulous. I counted 42 pins in my hair plus 2 bee pins.

I agree, great set last night! I liked the beginning songs a lot, which A. said were new.

Everyone needs to come to Honfest next year, especially the ladies. I have some pics to post once my camera recharges, but I should have focused more on the backs of the heads. I didn't realize till I got home how intricate the back was.

Ally, Tom, Mary - thanks a ton for coming on Saturday, and Mary, thanks for Honing it up with us. I had a really great time at all events. I think the secret of truly awkward banter this time around was to go with caffeine instead of alcohol as my primary crutch.

How do they justify it? "Baltimore: As a result of this, it has dinosaurs. And beehives"--new slogan?

quincie (quincie), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:42 (nineteen years ago)

In this city of compromise, a condominium that doesn't.

Washington, DC, capital city of the world’s greatest democracy, has always drawn those who believe that high ideals can be realized. Those who know that achieving high standards is not only possible, but essential. Those who insist on the highest quality in everything they do. Including where they choose to live.

We built Maxim for people like that. People who refuse to compromise when it comes to quality. People who know the difference between top-of-the-line and middle-of-the-road. For those who know that excellence is not a luxury, but a way of life, we present: Maxim. An exclusive collection of only 36 custom-crafted condominiums, finished with the finest materials and best-in-class features for high-performance living. . .

IN TENLEYTOWN. ACTUALLY, MORE LIKE WANNA-BE TENLEYTOWN!

Do these Maxim condos come with Eliza Dushku in a bikini?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 12 June 2006 16:47 (nineteen years ago)

No, but:

The pleasures of success are many, and varied. Touched by a finer texture, a deeper hue, a brighter line, the surfaces of refinement reveal the substantive difference within. First impressions need not be lasting prejudices, yet appearances are often our first indication of essential qualities. And while all people are created equal, all things certainly are not. And Maxim is a place that celebrates the finer things

condominium marketing in the district really makes me quite sick sometimes.
There's supposedly a burger king over by the chinatown stop. I'm thinking of taking a walk.

hey dudes, should i buy this?

the argument for being that it looks fucking awesome and probably sounds good too, according to all reports. with that many switches, there's no way some of them don't sound cool.

the argument against being that i don't really have the money, and that if i bought it i probably couldn't smash it into drums during shows.

Thanks Tom. I'm really grouchy today and my mom told me I was a lot more fun when I had a beehive.

Okay everyone, Tim H. from England is coming to visit soon and he would like to drink with us on Wednesday, June 21, so please clear your calendars, and also think of entertaining locales, if possible.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:23 (nineteen years ago)

Poor Tara Reid and her flat ass and lamprey nipples and beer gut. She's like a crazy high rent Nevada prostitute except they put her on TV.

No, N1kki W was in the house. She's still going on and on about how my buddy Gord0n's fiance Sam4ntha had more tits out at our wedding than she did, this apparently annoyed her no end.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Monday, 12 June 2006 17:51 (nineteen years ago)

Oh! And before we get distracted again, I was gonna say this that night but Pete or Zack came in and started chattin and I forgot: while I remain neutral on the issue of S's titties, I will say that declaring they must be real because you "know Gord0n" (why are we googleproofing this?) is like the dumbest shit I ever did hear, cos while I don't know him as well as you do, in my short time of discussions with him, I DID get to find out (multiple times) that he cannot tell the difference between Pamela Anderson porn star bad fake boobies and real ones, much less even halfway decent falsies versus real ones! So maybe you shouldn't use him as your benchmark of "breast knowledge."

1. That guitar is a guitar I bought at the thrift store. It has no brand name, and it sounds pretty shitty, which is why I keep it at home to mess around on. But it looks cool, so I figured, hey, I'll use it in the video.

2. I don't know what's up with Pete's ILX name but I used to have a "solo project" called Scare Quotes and the imaginary first album was called "Square Coats."

3. I don't think the FFs believe in playing outside of Chicago anymore, so I don't think we will be playing in DC. But maybe?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 12 June 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

1. Good choice!
2. Great minds etc.
3. Well, the FAs have no such similar policy, so maybe things will happen in yr neighborhood instead. Anyway, if'n we're ever looking to undertake such a venture I'll drop you a note.

SQUARECOATS (plsmith), Monday, 12 June 2006 19:05 (nineteen years ago)

i = interest rate per period (5%, i = 0.05)
N = number of interest periods
P = sum of money in the present (at t = 0)
F = sum of money N interest periods in future
A = sum of money in a uniform series for N periods

F = P(1 + i)N

P = F(1 + i)-N

i = (F/P)1/N – 1

F = A [(1 + i)N – 1]/ i
A = F i / [(1 + i)N – 1]

F = A (F/A, i, N)
