sunny successor (katharine), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's a totally dicky and totally NYC joke, based on:

1 - the state shutting down, and
2 - lots of people from NJ (and other places) coming into Manhattan every weekend for their nights out and getting made fun of by New Yorkers for maybe sometimes being just a little bit tacky and lame about it

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 6 July 2006 18:06 (nineteen years ago)

Hence the post in that thread that made me LOL:

"... escaping with nothing but pink feather boas, two-sizes-too-small hot pants and half-empty bottles of drakkar noir; these refugees swarm into the city both stunned and saddened by the failure of their local government. Sir, can you tell our audience what you're feeling right now?"

My kid is going to go to pirate school so he, or she, can learn to tie knots, shimmy up riggings, strip varnish, etc. Building slowly with some light deck swabbing builds the leg, back, and upper-body strength necessary for the intensive close-quarters sabre fighting that can sometimes break out in that profession. But I also want my child to pursue the more intellectual side of piracy: the sextant, astronomy, maritime botany etc. Piracy creates a well-rounded human being and rock-hard abs, I strongly recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried. Remember, it's pronounced PIE-ruh-cee.

when i lived in my last place, i'd hear crazy sex screeches coming from what i thought was my building, from the apartment next door. turns out they were coming from the house next door, something i discovered when i walked in my bedroom and looked out the window and saw the woman next door getting it on all fours from her boyfriend.

Me and my friend once worked at a call center in the former athletic dorm of a university. To our delight we discovered many of the dorm rooms were unlocked and still contained beds and running water. One day he returned from break wincing and sort of tearing up. After a time he confided that he'd been in one of the rooms jerking off and wanted to "mix it up," so he put his dick under the bathroom faucet WITHOUT TESTING THE WATER TEMPERATURE.

My sister just got her driver's license and went driving with her boyfriend (who's Mexican and doesn't speak English). She doesn't have a car yet, so she borrowed mine. There was only one tape in the car, a mix I made that featured "Rainbow Connection" by Kermit the Frog.

Now in Mexico, Kermit the Frog is called "La Rana Rene" and wasn't voiced by Jim Henson, so the boyfriend was quite suprised when my sister told him that was Rana Rene singing. A few songs later on the tape is "Photo Jenny" by Belle and Sebastian, which prompted the boyfriend to ask (in Spanish) "So is this the frog, too?"

Even before the do-not-call database here, people were supposed to be able to ask to have themselves removed from whatever list you were using. When I was doing this, we had an F-key shortcut that was supposed to accomplish that. Whenever people asked to be removed, I would press that button, but I wouldn't see anything happen. Eventually I told my boss I thought it was broken, but he said no, it was silently removing people from the list without any need for visual confirmation or any kind of yes/no dialogue.

LOS ANGELES -- Daniel Baldwin was hospitalized Wednesday after his speeding car crashed into two vehicles parked on a Los Angeles street, police said.

The actor complained of back and neck pain and was taken to UCLA Medical Center, said Officer Jason Lee, a police spokesman. Lee said Baldwin did not appear to be seriously hurt.

Authorities said a female passenger, whose name was not released, was not hurt.

Lee said Baldwin, 45, was driving with a suspended license. The actor was detained at the hospital while police investigated the crash, Lee said.

A hospital spokeswoman said she could not confirm that the actor had been treated there.

Lee said police saw Baldwin's car traveling about 80 mph on the city's west side shortly before 1 p.m. He said it weaved in and out of traffic and ran a red light before striking two parked vehicles. The speed limit in the area is 35 mph, police said.

One of the vehicles, a Hummer, was pushed about 20 feet by the impact, Lee said.

Baldwin, whose siblings include actors Alec Baldwin and William Baldwin, has appeared in such films as "Car 54, Where Are You?" and "Attack of the 50 Ft. Woman."

Let's get something straight. Henry Rollins is not gay. That is a fact. I've hung out with him.
Everyone in the music business knew Rob Halford was gay, though if you talked to him it wasn't obvious. I can't believe anyone on the planet was surprised when he came out of the closet. Hell I heard from a reliable source that he was gay in 1983.(I couldn't listen to eat me alive after that, it just wasn't the same) I have heard a rumor that Bon Scott's first wife caught him pounding some other guy's behind, and that's why she left him. Not sure about that, but his replacement, Brian Johnson, may like women more than anyone else I know. Johnson asked one of the female cameramen that shot the STIFF UPPER LIP video if he could wrap her legs around his neck and use them as a scarf. He also got caught with his hand on a womans behind at the end of the SNL show AC/DC was on. Not sure about the rest of the band.
What started the Kirk Hammet rumor? also the Dave Draiman rumor. And what about the Mick Jagger/David Bowie rumor? Hasn't anyone ever heard that one. I've heard the Rod Stewart stomach pumping rumor many times. I always figured if it was true, it would have been confirmed by a reliable source by now. Just because everyone(male) in the choir in high school is gay, doesn't mean everyone that sings in a band is.
There's really no reason for anyone in a band to be in the closet anymore. Being gay hasn't hurt anyone's record sales in a long time. I don't think there are as many musicians in the closet as the press and the idiots that start these rumors would have you believe.

For a time, the people began to wonder if paul Menchaca would ever return. He had ascended the western slope of Mount Sinai two days ago, on the Sabbath. He had told them that God had spoken to him, and that he was to receive a great revelation when he reached the top. But now, many in the tribe began to worry. Rumor spread throughout the tents, whispered on the desert wind. Would paul Menchaca ever return?

Then, on the morning of the fourth day, a small boy cried out, "Mama, it is him! It is him!" The villagers began to crane their necks, shielding their eyes from the sun. Soon, all could make out the form of paul Mechaca, in his dingy robes and flowing white beard, ambling down the mountain towards their gathering. He appeared to be holding two large, rectangular objects.

As he grew closer, the objects revealed themselves to be two large stone tablet, each engraved with writings in Hebrew.

paul Mechaca, now standing before the crowd, cleared his throat and spoke, "Children of God, Israel's chosen people, I have a message for you..."

As hush fell over the assembled, paul Menchaca looked heavenward and proclaimed.

"WILL OLDHAM NO LONGER INTERESTS ME."

There is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically "lost" whatever debate was in progress.

-- gear (speed.to.roa...), August 2nd, 2006. (later)

That's a distortion of Godwin's Law though, such as it is. It actually just says: "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."

-- Steve Go1dberg (steve.schne...), August 2nd, 2006. (later)

I know you got that from the wikipedia entry, gear. I just hate when people bitch about Godwin's Law and don't seem to know what it actually says. It's a pretty stupid law anyway.

Last night I dreamt I went to Ronan's funeral! Only the thing was, Ronan was there too. He'd expected the problems with his nose to kill him and had organised his funeral in advance, then decided to go ahead with it anyway to see what people would say about him. Then I went home and posted on the ILX Ronan Memorial Thread, and he kept responding with 'I DIDN'T LIKE ELECTROHOUSE I LIKED MINIMAL OKAY?!!"
That was even weirder than a couple of weeks ago when I dreamt I'd donated my right testicle to Andrew Farrell so he could sire children, then he returned it in a highly ungrateful manner.

3 pounds red beans
2 quarts water, plus 2 cups
6 beef bouillon cubes
5 medium onions, chopped
1 large bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
3 cups chopped celery, including leaves
3 ham hocks tied in cheesecloth
4 ounces tomato sauce
6 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons plus 6 dashes hot sauce
1 tablespoon horseradish
1 handful fresh parsley, chopped
1 tablespoon cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons thyme
2 teaspoons cayenne pepper
2 pinches dried sage
Salt
3 pounds smoked sausage, sliced
4 to 6 cups cooked white or brown rice

Wash beans and put in 2 quarts of water in heavy stockpot. In a separate container, dissolve bouillon cubes in 2 cups of hot water and then add to beans. Place over low heat and cook for about 3 hours.
In a saute pan, combine onions, bell pepper, garlic, and celery. Saute until tender and add to the beans. Add the ham hocks, and tomato sauce.

If the beans have soaked up the water, add more to barely cover the beans. Add Worcestershire, hot sauce, horseradish, and parsley. Simmer over medium to high heat for 4 to 5 hours, adding water if necessary during cooking.

When beans are tender, add cumin, thyme, cayenne pepper, sage, salt, and 1 cup water. Allow to simmer for another 2 to 3 hours. 30 minutes prior to serving, add sausage.

Serve beans over rice.

Making evangelical conversion a requirement for parole might just come back to haunt the evangelicals. I foresee the release each month of thousands of skeevy, violent people who've learned that pretending to be an evangelical Christian brings them rewards, until "evangelical Christian" comes to mean someone who pretends to be pious and faithful, but who robs you / stabs you in the back / hits you with a hammer at the earliest opportunity.

in 2006, when irony rules supreme, and hipsters snort cocaine from eagles best ofs, while wearing ironic hats, and doing graphic design, and calling each other on 3Gphones, is it any wonder that young people reject all this for:::::::::::
::::::games of happyslapping and CHEATING DEATH IN THE FAST LANE OF THE M23?!?!?!

from: PENIS FOUND IN HOT DOG BUN!

I've tried this line before: "Excuse me miss, (pointing downward), look what I've 'found' in this hot dog bun!"

Never seems to work.
