Martin it sounds to me like the database is the thing cutting it off - I don't think the form has a length limit.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

Does tinyurl.com work with linked images?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

http://tinyurl.com/hy2q

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

Yes.

Minna - go to http://tinyurl.com, enter the address of your jpg, then use the resulting tinyurl address as your image location instead.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:12 (twenty-one years ago) link

Graham may be right (and thanks!), I'm brand new to this! Is the URL over 75 characters long, Minna? If it is, I will need to widen the database field.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 July 2003 19:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

Methinks the 'Calum Judgement' has fallen by the wayside a bit.

(TT i just emailed you on the above email but it bounced back twice) (i'm at work)

luche libre (chaki), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:01 (twenty-one years ago) link

I think there is someone on the The ilx admin situation thread who a couple of posters have a history with (see Tom or Ned) who we really don't want to get a foothold on this board.

If there was ever a case for instant IP banning - Ricardo is it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm scared already, and I have no idea about him other than what you posted. How'd he find that post so quickly?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:13 (twenty-one years ago) link

yeah. that's what i'm wondering. i'm not scared tho'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

Christ knows. He was always good at those interweb search things (he was involved in the early Google beta's so he has all that basic code.) The reason we never talk about pre-Ilx (for want of a better word - and certainly the reason why we haven't posted that boards name) was because there was nothing he liked better than bragging about all that shit and what he could do.

Tom knows better than me (and yes, alright Tom you don't have to keep e-mailing me - I know its my fault I shouldn't have mentioned it) - which is why him and Ned never speak of it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:17 (twenty-one years ago) link

Are his doombots still lurking around, doing his bidding?

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:18 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm only scared cos people who think they're demonstrating colossal power by being too good at the internet depress me, I think

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

Ricardo and Ned, in happier times*:

*this was back when Ned was buff and still had short hair.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago) link

u dont have to ban me u fukkers im going i will keep watching though the truth is i was just a depeche mode fan who wanted to talk about the best band ever and all i got was piss taking and nothing has changed ned is a bully space rock spack rock more like and tom boasted about seling violator he can rot in hell its lucky im maturer now or your board would be fukked good

ricardo, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:23 (twenty-one years ago) link

im not being funny but please can we ban ricardo. this guy stalked my girlfriend for 2 years, and i had to deal with him in public more than once

regular poster under false name, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

I've got in touch with his IP. Fingers crossed we won't be hearing from him again.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

he owns is own ip range i think, somewhere in brixton?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-one years ago) link

Panto season has started early this year!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

hes behind you!
oh yes he is!
(etc)

joni, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

In all seriousness, if someone is stalking someone I'm all for banning them. I'm just a joker, don't take me as anything else.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

thats what ricardo said as well, at first. that was a really messy situation in the end. really fucking strange, to think it all came from just a message board originally

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Well I'm stating my opinion, I don't mean harm to anyone. People who go on a board to cause harm need banning. Just my view. I'll get back to being silly again soon. sorry.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:37 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am bemused by the fact that Larcole assumes I am a large green circle.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm sorry to ruin the fun but as pointed out twice on the top 100 posters thread: can someone please delete the posting of the stats lists? Since it reveals all of our fucking email addresses to all and sundry without needing to log in...

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Done it.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago) link

(x post sorry tom)

Yes please if there is anyone out there today with both sides of their branes still connected, do that one thing.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Thanks babe. Why the switch back to Tom? Is this like a Clark Kent/Superman scenario?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago) link

Nope -

When I'm 'on call' as a mod/admin, it's Tom.

Otherwise it's Tico Tico.

Another administrator needs a break so I volunteered to come back and do my duty by the boards.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago) link

It's more like the hitman being pulled out of retirement for one last job scenario.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

More like a cop Nick - can I be saddled with a rookie moderator on my last patrol and have to bring in a dangerous serial troll?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-one years ago) link

"I made it all up and it came true anyway."

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

How do we know if its the real Tom and not an impostor? I propose we put both of them in an electrified maze full of 90s indie CDs and Ayingerbrau round every turn. The evil impostor Tom will die a swift and painful death after clasping hold of the booby-trapped copy of the eponymous Blur album.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

Grobble Grobble!

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:04 (twenty-one years ago) link

Cripes - I shall never lie again if that's the upshot.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago) link

There you see, out of a great evil some good may yet come.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago) link

**pete scans the destruction for the first time**

james (james), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

It was such a pretty red button. I just had to push it. I didn't mean no harm.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:29 (twenty-one years ago) link

One thing I kind of miss about Greenspun now is all of the board shutdowns. I actually think it would be a good idea if the boards were to shut down for a few days so that everyone can cool down and stop being so irritable and snappish.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

What gives you the right to say that?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago) link

Fuck off, elf-boy.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

I know this is not what is supposed to go on here, and I apologize in advance, but could someone go here and add an i to the beginning of the picture link? Do it if you like, or call me a fucker if you like.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago) link

That's someone else's post, so no. Also, we are trying to really curtail the number of changes we make - they are surprisingly demanding on the database.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago) link

thank you n., the tinyurl worked.
thanks martin & graham, i need no further action!

minna (minna), Saturday, 26 July 2003 05:40 (twenty-one years ago) link

a pic [Dada, keep this thread image free for reasons mentioned near at top please and thank you.]

Dada, Saturday, 26 July 2003 05:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

Could someone delete my *Plonk* post from Why is Religious Education part of the curriculum but not Political Education? ? It makes little sense without Calum's preceding post.

Also, the "All Updated Posts" link off the New Answers screen is missing, which can mean people making an unneccesary search to find threads (eg, this one).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:14 (twenty-one years ago) link

ummmmmmmm, second problem is noted, one of us will have to look into it, it was mentioned elsewhere this afternoon.
Martin, you wanna straighten out that other problem with his post?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:39 (twenty-one years ago) link

Hm, I'm not sure what to do there, Andrew - there are a whole bunch of things reacting to some comment by Calum that has been removed. It does make it hard to make sense of several posts. Not knowing what to do, I will do nothing. Some other moderator may wish to intervene, but these changes really slow up the board a lot, so I'm disinclined to make loads of fiddly changes to lots of posts.
