stevie (stevie), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Consciously choosing to bait Doomie back in a stick-poking exercise, classic! (I'd dig up the Julian Cope vs. Bill Drummond thread, but I'm feeling a bit over-Julianed at the moment.)

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Rallying the troops, Stevie? Hahaha.

cool kid of death, Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

he's just bitter he's no long ilx's only troll.

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:13 (twenty-two years ago)

In a sick way, I kinda wish he had posted to the Elliott Smith threads, but that's going down a road I promised I would avoid.

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i did kate.

geez. yes, stevie you've gotten the generic reaction you wanted. was not hard!!!

cool kid of death, Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Jess OTM. Like, Doomie is so passé. I mean, who still cares about Doomie anyway?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

poor poor doom patrol.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm so so yesterday's news. agreed! so much so i don't even care...

cool kid of death, Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

doomie, i'm honestly interested in how other people react to this... i mean, your responses on the sly thread just seem so retarded and existing for no reason other than to bait me. and then i take the bait! i'm just wondering whether fellow sufferers feel the same way... i just wanna understand you, dude, some guy who so obviously has this bizarre fixation upon me who then concludes a wave of moronic posts with something along the line of 'whatever i'm not interested anyway'...

stevie (stevie), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

and i wanna understand myself too, why i bother replying to you when its obviously all part of some crazy cat'n'mouse thing you have for certain posters...

stevie (stevie), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevie, there are some interesting two year old threads in the archive I could refer you to.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

now stevie's baiting me...

listen man i have nothing against you. i really don't. *shrugs shoulders*

i even wrote to careless talk. you even said you dig the article.

sigh. my apathy is making me not even want to finish my sentence...

cool kid of death, Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:23 (twenty-two years ago)

nah, i'll take my leave for a month or so, ned.

see you folks!

time to get off ilx for awhile.

Thing is, Stevie, most of us had our spats with Doomie, realised what his schtick was and stopped paying attention to it a year to two years ago.

I don't know if it's odd to me that he still does this, or odd that people still "fall for it" - though I suppose this is understandable if you didn't have two years of back experience of his methodology.

I mean, my attitude about the whole thing is, if I'm online and bored, and he's online and bored, then it's kind of fun, but only cause we're both aware that it's a game we're playing.

kate (kate), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

haha dammit

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I suppose this is understandable if you didn't have two years of back experience of his methodology.

This explains most of us a.m.a. veterans and Geir as well.

it's a game we're playing.

Except most of us are playing 'Truth or Dare' and he's playing horsies.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie is mean and nasty and 'orrible and should be ignored unless you are bored. I also learned this the hard way.

smee (smee), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Stevie, he called me some interesting names. Anyone care to find the thread?

Jess, I have only just stopped screaming with laughter at yr countdown :)

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie: his only crime was he cared too much.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

On that dead or alive link on said thread I was pleased to see Uday Hussein's chosen field described as politics.

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

You're the second person today, Stevie.

Doomie's only crime is that he's a nobhead.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Mark C's a bald cunt!

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Couldn't you find the link, Southall?

Mark C (Mark C), Thursday, 30 October 2003 16:53 (twenty-two years ago)

my favourite doom-e thread was where he talked of how vindicated he feels now that Alfie are supporting the Flaming Lips. That was a head-scratcher!

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Is anybody secretly charmed by doompatrol?

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

i've never minded doomie too much - he's okay. RONAN TO THREAD!!!!

Dave Stelfox (Dave Stelfox), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:28 (twenty-two years ago)

who is doomie these days?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah he got after me once...

Chris V. (Chris V), Thursday, 30 October 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I think "doomie" is allright, actually.

Pashmina (Pashmina), Thursday, 30 October 2003 20:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie is a tool but, no offense Nick, I think he was sort of right to call you out on that thread. I mean "dave q is my gift to the world"?! That is a pretty severely twattish thing to say, don't you think? Didn't you just say something similar the other day on another thread, too? What's up with that?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Thursday, 30 October 2003 21:22 (twenty-two years ago)

If anyone hasn't looked at this yet, I implore you to go nuts with it. It's a fucking hoot.

Is anybody secretly charmed by doompatrol?

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, I wish I hadn't. It brought back all kinds of bad memories. I had forgotten how annoying and creepy Doomie used to be in the old days.

I've NEVER seen Ned actually lose his rag like that. That really takes something.

However, it's telling that the number one poster on that thread was... ::drumroll::

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate did Doomie not try to help you out on this thread? Why the hatred?

Doomie, email me, I have good news!

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 10:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Ugh, I wish I hadn't. It brought back all kinds of bad memories. I had forgotten how annoying and creepy Doomie used to be in the old days.

Did you not notice the use of the PAST TENSE in that sentance?

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:58 (twenty-two years ago)

no good can come of this

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 10:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly. I'd rather forget those days, and return to the present where it's all in good fun.

(That said, I was looking up random threads, and found a particularly funny one where Momus was talking about a scale of feminine sweetness that ranged from "sweeter than Kate and Ally" to "Geisha" which was pretty hysterical.)

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

And I seem to remember a thread where Marcello expressly thanked Doomie for urgent and key advice when dealing with the aftermath of a loved one?

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

a good couple of years have passed since the initial doomie stuff. much has gone down since.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Daytime Love, the other side of the coin.

(and yes, I'm going to keep milking this for all time)

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i must say i'm really not a big fan of using 'cunt' as an insult

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

nor 'balding' for that matter

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You explicitly requested that he kill himself because of an innocous (sp?) post and he got angry?

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:13 (twenty-two years ago)

That's not angry, Geoff, that's psychotic. Doomie's raison d'etre is to make life that little bit worse for everyone he comes into contact with. So yes, I wish he didn't exist. I did apologise for wanting him to kill himself though.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:16 (twenty-two years ago)

But wishing death on someone is not as psychotic? I think perhaps its a dead issue but I know that doomie was 'Tony' at the end of this post.

Laura R.I.P.

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Does anyone else remember I Really Love Music??

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it was before my time

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't see how being nice once frees Doomie from the need to behave like a civil human being, but I don't get trolls at all.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

I think because of the meta-micro nature of this board that Doomie's evilness has been wildly over-exaggerated. Fair do's as it is the nature of the board to take trivial matters and over-exaggerate them to stave off boredom but let's get realistic. I doubt he is psychotic. I doubt he is a prime evil source. But I do think he should stay away from the board.

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't think that he's evil. at worst i think his behaviour is possibly the result of a degree of self-loathing at the fact that he wants to be able to stay away from ILx but can't. please correct me if i'm completely wrong.

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

He's not EVIL, he's ANNOYING. Calling him evil seems like playing into his hands.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:22 (twenty-two years ago)

i have a lot of time for him anyway

the surface noise (electricsound), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Doomie has had his share of problems, and I think that this board in particularly really exacerbates them. But I also think that Doomie would probably be the first person to admit this.

Anyway, it feels really creepy to be talking like this when he's *not* on the thread.

Doomie was not the first troll we had, nor the last, and not even the worst - he just appeared at a particular time during the formation of ILX, so he's been saddled with a particular archetypical role. I'd prefer it if he didn't feel condemned to keep repeating that role.

kate (kate), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Daytime Love, your reasonableness does you credit, but when ALL THERE IS is this board, then being a complete CUNT time and time and time again on the board defines Doomie's personality (or lack of it). I don't think he's evil, as such, just deeply sad and stupid.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:24 (twenty-two years ago)

But I've linked examples above where he is not a cunt 'all the time'. He's participated in conversations without being a cunt. But I think Kate may have hit the nail on the head. Fair do's.

As for a lack of personality - I doubt it - I find him one of the intriguing characters on the board. But sad and stupuid? No. I find him intriguing to be sad and stupuid. He strikes me as a very bright and witty individual with an immense degree of self loathing. But reading searching his posts on the board - underlines my thoughts about him.

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Reaosnable AND generous. However, Doomie has repeatedly insulted me (I can live with it) and my friends (which is harder to swallow) and whatever his personality is, it makes him incapable of contributing here without getting into a fight every other post. No-one else achieves this. The pathetic thing is, this gives him a feeling of self-worth, so he keeps doing it, no matter how much it upsets other people, and these people, even though they know they can't win, are still riled and unhappy enough to try, in vain, to retaliate, thus feeding his fucked-up ego. He's parasitic and utterly self-absorbed. You're welcome to him.

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Kate, are you SURE he's not on this thread?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Like Norman, I think Doomie's alright, though I have long since stopped understanding what's fun about having fights with people on the interweb.

Doomie owes me a CD which makes me sad because I was looking forward to hearing it.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Fair do's. I just found it interesting.

Daytime Love, Friday, 31 October 2003 11:36 (twenty-two years ago)

"i really love music" had nothing on "destroy ile"

strongo hulkington's ghost (dubplatestyle), Friday, 31 October 2003 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone explain to me exactly what was offensive about Doomie's post on the Laura RIP thread? Particularly as I was the one he was addressing and I thought it pretty OTM, even at the time. Chapter and verse please with regard to "wishing death on someone" otherwise please shut up and leave me and Laura's memory out of this.

Marcello Carlin, Friday, 31 October 2003 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I didn't notice too many people complaining about THAT post

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

I think that the point that was being made that Doomie was 'nice' on this particular thread. Although I thought it wasnt appropriate to link to that thread.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I agree. Doomie linked to it, though.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Mr Diamond, I was being more than a little ironic about the dave q on Stylus thing. Doomie periodically goads me for no apparent reason other than the fact that he enjoys it.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Friday, 31 October 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yr irony was completely fucking clear to me, at least, if yr wondering

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 31 October 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i used to think doomie was rather dull, but then he messaged me saying he was going to fucking destroy me. at first this was very unusual, i hadnt experienced that level of passion before. but later i came to appreciate it a lot more, and now i think that is really very funny indeed. how many other people would bother to threaten to fucking destroy me (ok theres been a couple of other guys but whatever, the point still holds)

anyway, for that, i think hes rather cute and lovable for that, its nice when people bother. so next time you have a go at doomie, remember, this is a guy that takes time out of his busy schedule to message you personal greetings in this manner, and i got mad respect for that. keep it up brownell!

peace, love, respect

the g-child

gareth, Friday, 31 October 2003 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

thirteen years pass...

i don't think that he's evil. at worst i think his behaviour is possibly the result of a degree of self-loathing at the fact that he wants to be able to stay away from ILx but can't. please correct me if i'm completely wrong.
