To dye or not to dye?

Alright, so here is my deal. I have been highlighting my hair by a professional for 5 years now, strictly blonde highlights and little pink and purple non-permanent here or there. NOw i can go three months without having to return to the hairdresser for a re-highlighting because of the roots. I used to be a natural blond when i was younger, and my hair does get lighter if not whitish in the summer....but usually my hair is a dirty blond colour. Lately i have been thinking about dying my hair black....i am a little worried about what it will look like, and how it will effect my hair, i don't want to damage my hair or ruin it in anyway, because i have fine hair to begin with...comments or suggestions are needed....

only lifting damages your hair, dying it darker can actually fill in the shaft and make the strands plumper and shinier. I was also a natural blonde when younger (although now it is mouse-brown), very fine hair as well. I really liked using henna to dye my hair (red in my case but you can do black henna too) because it conditions the hair so thoroughly. Dying my hair is the only way that I can get it to survive long enough to grow past my shoulers. It can be very time-consuming/expensive to lighten once you go dark though, so be sure you're ready for the commitment. It will probably be a little shocking to have black hair, particularly if you are fair-skinned, but sometimes it's fun to be so dramatic. You might want to try a nice auburn or chestnut brown first before you go full-on black. Also remember that your blond roots will look weird coming in under black hair, so there is still maintenance involved.
