Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Over 100,000 a month? Good grief. Can you also graph how many are worthwhile posts? Not on the same scale obviously, or we wouldn't be able to see the line.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:16 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened in September 02?

Ricardo (RickyT), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I went on vacation to NZ for two weeks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Who made the 100000th post at ILE, and which thread was it in? Does anyone know?

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

um I mean the 1,000,000th post.

A Nairn (moretap), Sunday, 4 April 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i might have done

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 4 April 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

no wonder it's hard to follow

Maria (Maria), Sunday, 4 April 2004 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

ILE/ILM/other breakdown? (And could those vertical lines be any less helpful? ;-)

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Mr "less helpful" Noodles won't be back to answer your stats questions until tomorrow since he's out at the Neko Case show. =)

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

That chart is alarming and slightly horrifying.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I think he's projected that we'll hit 2 million posts by June.

!!!

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

haha! I started posting somewhere between sept and nov 2002!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Our overhead remains steady as our profits grow and grow! MICROSOFT, YOUR ASS IS OURS!

Michael Daddino (epicharmus), Monday, 5 April 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

(Actually our overhead increased, as you'll recall, what with the sending money to Australia business...)

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, the Neko show sucked ass, well sorta. Long story.

um I mean the 1,000,000th post.
Well technically the millionth post is a little fudging since we've deleted so bloody many posts. But let me see what I can do in the next day or to.

ILE/ILM/other breakdown? (And could those vertical lines be any less helpful? ;-)

No ILE/ILM breakdown at the moment since I'm lazy.
Those vertical lines were choosen by Excel, I had nothing to do with it. (It goes by a certain number of days).

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:47 (twenty-one years ago)

excel-erate your breath!

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Best microsoft product EVAH!
Though I'm liking MapPoint.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 5 April 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha ha, I entered the world of The Forum right around the time of one of those massive dips illustrated in that chart. And the dip continued until I'd been around here for a few weeks or so. This could very well say or mean something. Or maybe not.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 5 April 2004 04:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Can we kill some of the old (2003) threads of /www/bin/httpd ?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 5 April 2004 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Now I feel weird for having been here at the start, when the graph seems to show that no one else was. Sadly, the first post I actually made was about Radiohead, though the next one (almost a month later) was about Ambrosia rice pudding, and was much more incisive.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 5 April 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. OK, I'm not complaining about the Poxy Fuling again. That's insane.

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 5 April 2004 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

What happened in September 02?

um, the Da Capo book with the Strokes thread came out.

Matos W.K. (M Matos), Monday, 5 April 2004 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I got here about two dots or so (dec 2001) before the first lefthand bar. N is right - it does seem kind of weird. I think back then the top 50 posters included pretty much *all* of the posters.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I used to be a player! Now the game is just so big.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

what jel said :(

Pashmina (Pashmina), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you really think that's what caused it Matos? It seems unlikely to me - we've not even had any online link generate that kind of surge, let alone an offline mention. (Repeated mentions in high-circulation newspapers have got us pretty much zero extra). Also I didnt get the impression that the surge was on ILM first and foremost, which is what you'd expect from a Da Capo related boost.

It's probably something like Google changing its algorithms!

It's interesting that there was such a flatness during the first half of 2002, I remember it as being really busy then!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only just learnt the link: search option on google!

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Which date marks the move from Greenspun?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

The start of the surge looks more like August 2002 to me anyway.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

we left planet greenspun in August 2002. Could the earlier dips then be due to missing data?

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 15:59 (twenty-one years ago)

God, that long ago??!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Time flies when you're hating fun.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I remember "the End" thread that Ned went cut and paste mad on! That was August 16th 2002.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I want a graph of my own posting stats (NB. I really do).

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The End

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too! I want approval ratings for all my posts! I need to know how I can meet the needs of my fans better.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The way those posts come across made me think of The Songs of Distant Earth...

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

most of Ned's posts got deleted! hah

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Wah

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

what happened around 6/2001? the first increase?

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

ILE?

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned got promoted and had even more time to post on ILE? ;)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Summer of 2001, I had lots of free time, so I probably posted a lot.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Me too! I want approval ratings for all my posts! I need to know how I can meet the needs of my fans better.

Revive this thread! Just Ask Jel!!

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, didn't we create ILE in June of 2001? I think so, but I can't find that first thread for some reason.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Welcome!

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Time flies when you're hating fun.

this should be the official ilx motto (we can put it on our letterhead and everyfing)!

stockholm cindy (Jody Beth Rosen), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It actually really sort of totally should.

Kim (Kim), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just thinking about how perfect that sentence is.

El Diablo Robotico (Nicole), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I find it meet and right!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I just wanna tell the world that I hate fun, though I guess they already knew.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:35 (twenty-one years ago)

"I find it meet and right! "

now this sentance is far from perfect.

A Nairn (moretap), Monday, 5 April 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

what happened around 6/2001? the first increase?

Well, my first post was May 21st 2001.

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Monday, 5 April 2004 20:33 (twenty-one years ago)

select * from messages limit 1 offset 999999;
gives I am blue. Please post pictures that will make me less blue.
offset 1000000 gives the same thread but the post below. That should be the millionth surviving post.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

So it's Ned's post of a picture of some hockey kids, or is it the white mouse toy posted by Sommermute?

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:41 (twenty-one years ago)

wait a minuite, that can't be right for ILE because I remember checking the stats a couple weeks ago and it was at something like 993458. I was like whoa almost a million. So it must have been in the last few weeks. We're only at 1011576 right now.

Or maybe that is for all of ILX.

A Nairn (moretap), Tuesday, 6 April 2004 03:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, I forgot what thread, but someone wanted to know what our useage would be like by next year.
Using y = -1E-05x3 + 1.1068x2 - 42624x + 5E+08 as our trendline, we get 160,000 posts per month by this point next year.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

six months pass...
I just checked this out for fun:

jaymc (jaymc), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:31 (twenty years ago)

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:36 (twenty years ago)

GET ONE LIFE

identity theftor (deangulberry), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Percentage of threads containing at least twenty of the exact same image / Total threads (Current new answers): ??%

Pangolino (ricki spaghetti), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Oh no political reasons! I was really just curious. I like pictures! I think it is a welcome development.

Leon Czolgosz (Nicole), Monday, 25 October 2004 20:01 (twenty years ago)

(I mean, you all know I've had a few dust-ups with the Pickle Bar in my day, but I think you'll find it's never had anything to do with images.)
