last post:

Poor Nadia! Sympathy vote up, though.

-- Alba (alb...), July 28th, 2004.

go!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i did feel quite a bit of sympathy for her for the first time.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Somone made the point over at Digital Spy that Nadia's transexualism is this year's Cameron's virginity. They could be onto something.

The Slickman is now The Sun's official BB columnist.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Poor Nadia, for sure. She's been able to forget the past and just have a nice time, and be herself in there, and its horrible to be confronted with it in such a way.

And...its not even accurate 'Nadia's a man' - no, fuck off, she ISN'T. I don't know any men that look like that, DO YOU?

Sorry, I know I'm preaching to the choir here, it just makes me angry. If they got her in there to open up people's minds, it doesn't appear to have been all that effective.

On another note, Michelle is clearly leaving this week, isn't she? They're editing against her to an incredible degree, having apparently decided having Jason in the house will be more interesting, and make more revenue in the telephone votes.
A shame, because I find Michelle endlessly entertaining. She's been the funniest one in there - often unintentionally, admittedly.

The head-tilt theory is quite something.. there are clearly hidden messages in those publicity shots.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The Slickman is now The Sun's official BB columnist.

This was sadly inevitable. He's more media-savvy than the rest of them put together..

'cept Becki, but she's clearly upset quite a few media-types in the past - its the only way to explain the way she was treated.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose head-tilting = TOO MUCH ATTITUDE or PATHETIC ATTEMPT AT WINSOMENESS.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

No, it goes much deeper than that.

We just don't know....where....

hobart paving (hobart paving), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Do we all think that Dan and the others heard the shouts?

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Well don't they already *know*? Or did Michelle and Marco just spend entire weeks talking about transexuals for a laugh?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I think lots of them kind of thought 'ooh, maybe' at some point, but all the evictees so far have genuinely looked shocked when Davina's told them. Jason was talking about it to Victor the other night and I think he really suspects. Dan may well have guessed but is being quiet about it.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i think she should tell Dan, he's the only trustworthy one and i he would give her quite a bit of support, i'd imagine.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

They're editing against her to an incredible degree
Not according to BBLB. Dermot even said today that he really wasn't trying to make her look bad, but she keeps coming out with this stuff.

I really like her. I think she's the funniest one in there and I feel bad for her that she's so insecure. Even tonight on the main show, when Shell and Stu were suggesting that she should become a ski bunny, she looked like she wasn't sure what they were talking about and suspected them of mocking her because they are posh and she is not.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

She's terrific. I only want her to go in an EVIL BB sense. I can't imagine what she'd be like on BB:LB. All the others have been able to have a laugh, but would she just be going on and on about Stuart? They should tell her she's allowed to have half an hour with Stu each day if she spends the rest of it back in the bedsit watching with Emma.

I don't really know who I want to go now. I even want Jason to stay, to see how he would react to another week in the house. Maybe I want Stuart to go.

Alba (Alba), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

accentmonkey - 'Not according to BBLB'?

BBLB being a bastion of impartiality on all matters Big Brother.

Wooden (Wooden), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

why are they waking them up so early and, as a result, making the nighttime live transmission on ch4 consist entirely of shots of them sleeping?

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 28 July 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm fairly certain Dan heard every word those guys shouted.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 July 2004 07:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Do we all think that Dan and the others heard the shouts?

Yes - you could tell they had heard and were pretending they hadn't.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

and he almost certainly knew before, too.

Not only is it awful for Nadia, those shouts spoilt it for everyone as well. It's like the other inmates have been told the ending of a book or film. The uncertainty was good for dramatic tension.

I think Michelle's really entertaining too but maybe she thinks everyone loves a romantic couple, like Helen and Paul. Except she's hopelessly jealous which is a bit unattractive to the voters.

beanz (beanz), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

why are they waking them up so early and, as a result, making the nighttime live transmission on ch4 consist entirely of shots of them sleeping?

Because they have the viewers best interests at heart.

___ (___), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:23 (twenty-one years ago)

"Nadia's a man" could just = "We all think Nadia looks like a man ha ha", so it doesn't quite settle things.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:24 (twenty-one years ago)

This is wierd because my work colleague mentioned on Tuesday morning that he heard on the radio someone had thrown a potato over the wall with the words "nadia is a man" written on. i told him it must be rubbish but then this happens later on in the same day.

Mad coincidence ?

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

It would have been better if they'd thrown over a man with the words "nadia is a potato" written on.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Nadia gets thrown over a wall with "Man is a potato" on her.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:36 (twenty-one years ago)

If Nadia makes the final four, will she actually bother to tell them?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"Bother to'? You make it sound like it's laziness that has prevented her.

Nadia gets thrown over a wall with "Man is a potato" on her.

The perfect eviction.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

if i posted to the LOL post stuff that makes you laff threads, that would be in there. thank you.

(blimey ILE has been nice for almost 48 hours now!)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Nadia gets thrown over a potato with -

no, that's silly.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Perhaps they did hear it, but thought they didn't. After all if someone shouted that one of my female friends was a man, I would imagine that i'd misheard. I am just greatful for Nadia's sake that Michelle & jason weren't there to hear it. Poor Nadia. Also, Dan was really cool with her!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

what jaunty alan said.... i have just given myself a stomach cramp from laughing at this stuff, a good start to the day ;)

in the infra red nighttime light Dan looks about 60 years old, has anyone else noticed this?

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 29 July 2004 09:17 (twenty-one years ago)

He just looks like a ghost or perhaps a skeleton imo!

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 09:23 (twenty-one years ago)

He looks like Riddick. I was going to say 'a camp Riddick', but Riddick's pretty camp already.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 29 July 2004 09:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Did anyone see what the code in the title sequence is - I missed that part of BBLB and now I'm kind of curious about it...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:15 (twenty-one years ago)

It was alpha-numerical and spelt out "Who said life was fair"

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

(as in a=1, b=2 etc)

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

who said life was fair? 8)

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd forgotten about the code. Way back when, I worked out that it corresponds to letters of the alphabet in a v. simple way - 1=A, 2=B etc. but you'd need to video and slow it down to work out what it actually said. I can't even remember the one word I managed to translate.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:33 (twenty-one years ago)

What code is this?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:34 (twenty-one years ago)

In the opening titles.

PinXor (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Numbers flash up? I never noticed. Is that just this series? Same ones every episode?

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I never really thought much about them, they looked like IP addresses to me.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool, thanks. I was hoping for clues to find a buried treasure or something. Or maybe "Nadia is a man"...

Kevin Gilchrist (Mr Fusion), Thursday, 29 July 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I was moved by the Dan and Nadia middle of the night moment. "We can cuddle if you want to." They just looked so sweet. I was in the flat on my own and ended up screaming "just tell him! Tell him now! He's lovely! TELL HIM!"

Anna (Anna), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Michelle has just been getting more insane as the days go on. What the fuck was the whole thing with Stu and the apples for his porridge about? And all the glaring at Shell with "You'd better not be thinking about Ghost", then standing in front of Dan & Nadia singing 'Unchained Melody'?

Emma appears to have turned against her in recent days too - she appears to have realised how manipulated she was in the bedsit and has made it clear what she (Emma) was actually responsible for and what Michelle 'encouraged' her to do.

Oh, and negative editing? Not a bit of it - if anything, Michelle has been shown in as beneficial a light as possible: take Tuesday's highlights/Monday's double task fail over lip gloss by Michelle and Nadia. On the highlights show it seemed like an innocent exchange - on the live feed, after the point where the bit shown on the highlights was over Michelle flung it back at Nadia's face shouting "Catch", then apologised after it hit her, claiming "I'm sorry chicken, I never meant that, I never meant for it to hit you." All the time her eyes said exactly the opposite as she glared at her. I think the highlights show has done the best to present her in as neutral a light as possible, given the material they have to work with.

I see my Jason=Top 3 theory has spread, with some other forums quite happily referring to him as this year's jade Goody - hated in the house, but having enough fans to get to the end, but with no chance of winning. A lot of bookies now have him closing on Shell for 4th place.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

> but you'd need to video and slow it down to work out what it actually said

the only tricky bit was the way the numbers would change as they scrolled across and faded in / out - you ended up with a lot of alternatives, only one of which was a real word. still, kept me and the Tivo amused for 5 minutes.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 29 July 2004 13:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I see my Jason=Top 3 theory has spread, with some other forums quite happily referring to him as this year's jade Goody

I think he'll be fourth, after Nadia, Dan and Michelle/Shell (not sure which).

hobart paving (hobart paving), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm pretyy sure the girl vote for liberated Stu will carry him into the final three, barring some jiggerypokery eviction trick by the producers.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Order of evictions now I reckon = Michelle, Jason, Shell/Stu, Dan, Nadia. I am glumy resigned to the fact that she is going to win now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there a source for this sudden implication that Michelle is going to go tomorrow ahead of Jason? All the people I have spoken to still hate Jason more and want him out.

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a crazy rumour that's swept the nation. Feeds off itself, I suppose.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 29 July 2004 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

victor is a terrible actor on bblb.

cºzen (Cozen), Thursday, 29 July 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently, his random shout of "Victor Ebuwa!" on last night's highlights show was in response to a pre-arranged car-horn honk from Victor telling him he was safe tonight in Morse Code.

Has BB just decided to forget about all the rules to do with contacting the outside world, then? I seem to remember that in other years that kind of thing would have got you a warning. Although I suppose so much has gone on that they probably don't care anymore.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:22 (twenty-one years ago)

To be fair it was the outside world contacting him.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 30 July 2004 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

"To be fair..."

Shit, I've turned into Peter Beardsley.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 30 July 2004 14:00 (twenty-one years ago)

ENRQ (Enrique), Friday, 30 July 2004 15:10 (twenty-one years ago)

oooh that was fairly horrible, i'm looking forward to this but dreading it at the same time.

shell looked gorgeous in her dark make up.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Friend of friend of friend who knows her says her look in the BB house is a revelation - she's usually very tweedy. She pulls off the glamour vampy look so well. Her hair in the publicity photo is awful.

Michelle in diary room: "I know that our relationship will continue after we leave the house and there'll be adventures and happy times to come"

It's hearbreaking! Looking forward to the Davina interview more than any other.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:40 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm going to vote for Shell to win based on make-up alone.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

There are days when her face looks a bit ducky and then the next shot just has her smouldering.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Michelle did well there. As well as she could have done.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Michelle has a horrible look of steely determination in her eyes. She's thinking: "right, my career starts here."

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

yup.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Very boring interview. Davina seems to have gone downhill as an interviewer. Or maybe this series there is just too much we want to know.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

(I liked the categorical denial that the "You can squeeze my bap too" comment had been accurately transcribed, though)

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Very boring interview...

That was partly Michelle's fault, sounding like a bloody politician.

"Did you have sex with Stuart?"
"But did you have sex with Stuart?"
"Go on, did you have sex with Stuart?"
"Aw, tell us!"
"You're just saving this for the tabloids, aren't you?

(or something along those lines)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:42 (twenty-one years ago)

"I was only joking."
"I never said that."

A dull week on BBLB, and (unless Davina's right and she's saving her story for the tabloids) no career to follow - unless the Peter Andre/Jordan 'Hello/OK/Closer/Heat' route can be described as a career.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:43 (twenty-one years ago)

To Michelle, though, that probably does look like a career.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but having hit a brick wall with that line of questioning, Davina should have either thought of another approach or just dropped the subject and moved onto something else. I'm really not that interested in whether 'the train went in the tunnel' anyway - exploring her jealousy, hopes for the future of her and Stu, and her attitude towards the others in the house are much more fertile ground, I'd say.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

She'll be co-hosting with Abi Titmuss on whatever cheap porn channel it is by the end of the month, I bet you.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant Michelle, not Davina, obviously.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm looking forward to the release of "pie jhayso-oo-oo--oo--o----o-oo--o-oooooooo"

jed_ (jed), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Trying to explore the jealousy just came up against "oh, I was only joking! That was a joke" to every question, though. I agree, Davina should have gone more for her relationships with the other housemates.

(xpost)

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 July 2004 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

She could have asked about ahmed, jason, emma and the fight with victor and actually thrown in the 'you're saving it for the tabloids' line after a couple of denials. Also didn't tell her abt nadia.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I noticed that. I wondered if it was because they don't want us to know whether everyone really did hear what was being shouted over the wall the other night.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought the interview was very interesting. I mean, I found Davina interesting, and also Michelle. I cannot imagine myself being as interested by a more straightforward interview, where a variety of questions were asked & then answered. I cannot imagine the questions or the answers. I enjoyed every 'no comment', and wondered.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:19 (twenty-one years ago)

interesting....

jed_ (jed), Friday, 30 July 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Friday, 30 July 2004 23:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Apparently, one bookmakers is offering the following odds:

Stuart to marry Michelle by the end of the year: 50/1
Stuart to marry a member of Girls Aloud by the end of the year: 40/1

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 July 2004 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

A Michelle - Cheryl Tweedy fight is the kind of thing pay-per-view TV was invented for.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

FACT OF THE DAY:

Both DS and the Channel 4 forums, in their "Who do you want to win?" poll have, obviously, Nadia winning. However, both also have Jason in second place.

I have to vote for Jason really, out of... I dunno. I just enjoy the ridiculous. For a man who's stay in the house has been characterised by boredom, thongs, and shouting "VICTOR EBUWA!!!" randomly, I kind of like the guy.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 30 July 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

It wasn't random - it was part of a carefully preplanned call-and-response coded communication involving a car horn. Or so someone said. I'm not sure I entirely believe this and do quite like the idea of Jason bellowing "VICTOR EBUWA!!!" randomly.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 30 July 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

DS:BB is often wrong but this rings true to me:

the housemates know about Nadias secret which is why Davina didnt tell Michelle tonight during the eviction.

They have diary room footage of the hm discussing it but CH4 haven't shown it as they dont want to aliente voters and make Nadia as the BB5 freak...

Endeol told the HM talking about it would have a negative impact on them!

what other reason would Davina have for not telling Michelle since it has seemed to be the point of the interview in some cases?

jed_ (jed), Saturday, 31 July 2004 09:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Also didn't tell her abt nadia.

what other reason would Davina have for not telling Michelle since it has seemed to be the point of the interview in some cases?

I suppose it would be too much to hope that the reason is because the producers have actually developed some sensitivity and dropped the titillatory 'guess WHAT?!?!?' approach. Really, it isn't up to Davina to tell anyone about Nadia's past. I wish I could say I was surprised that it was such a big part of preceeding interviews.

Is it me, or has this been the most blatantly edited Big Brother so far - and does the fact that The Sun has consistently managed to tip the person who will leave, a couple of days BEFORE BB starts editing the footage to get them out, seem a mite suspicious to anyone else?

Its a shame. Michelle should have WON! The last week won't be worth watching now.

hobart paving (hobart paving), Saturday, 31 July 2004 10:45 (twenty-one years ago)

I assumed Dan and maybe the others had heard until Dan made that "She thinks you've got a cock, dear!" joke (re: Nadia) the next day, which just seemed too close to the bone a joke to make if he had understood why she was so upset the night before.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 31 July 2004 11:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it's very interesting that the detailed voting figures haven't come out yet. The last time there was a 6 horse race, Ahmed won with a "massive" 56% and nearly 950,000 people voted for him.

The only thing we've had about this one so far is that Michelle got 67% of the vote. One and a half million people voted her out. Most hated housemate ever?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 31 July 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Nadia is more likely to be brought up and/or outed if the evictee has been disparaging about her as a woman: see Victor. Or they want a humorous reaction generally: see Marco.

The look on Jason's face will be classic unless Victor's posse has morse-coded him the details from the Tesco parking lot adjacent, but really the funniest exploration of this will be when Dan has his interview, because he clearly has sussed it (as I would have) and all that remains to be seen is what bons mots will arise as a result.

Dan does this thing that I like which I call 'getting a case of the Veras' which camp English people do all the time - speaking in the depracatory tones of a tacky, affected older auntie (think of Pat Butcher going 'gawrrrrr!' in exasperation). Also he says 'all right?' like Jarvis in I Spy, quite naturally, as a bonus.

suzy (suzy), Saturday, 31 July 2004 12:22 (twenty-one years ago)
