:-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, if that last dress was green and the hemline went to the floor, it would strongly resenmble the bride's maid dress made for an ex-girfriend of mine by the bride's crazy aunt.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Your friend was in the wedding party of Ming the Merciless's sister?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

So pretty. I wish that Dan would have cast you in Fast Times as well Ned. Accuracy be damned; that dress suggests you would have been the perfect person to hang out with in the girl's bathroom between classes.

FB your dress description sounds alarmingly like my senior prom dress. (Green, metallic... not entirely sure what I was thinking there.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

A vision.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

The kind of vision that you only get after weeks of Hastings-style hazing, but a vision's a vision.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Well this is a vision too -- I put it over on the 'best picture taken ever' thread but in case it got buried: friend Y brings out the birthday cake for her daughter Emma on Saturday. Easily one of the coolest pictures I have ever taken, period.

Or, perhaps if you had a bad trip at a Star Terek convention.

Well, the dress was lame but it was not lame'. Crazy aunt hunted down some poor old lady's couch, hung it in her garage and skinned it. The cut and style, however bear a striking resemblance.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Great photo Ned!

FB, I wish I could have seen that bridesmaid's dress. (Bridesmaids dresses are notoriously horrible, though. There's a whole website dedicated to awful ones; I might have it bookmarked downstairs. So it probably didn't take hunting down an old lady's couch; all you have to do is walk into one of those shops and you'll get overwhelmed by scary dresses.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

OK, John, bite the bullet and move to Hastings. I will help run your campaign.

Or, just claim your parent's address. Who cares if we get exposed. jail time for fraud is better than living there.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Wouldn't that make him mayor of Welch, though? (Maybe it is too small for that, though.)

I will bake you cakes with nail files in them if you go to jail. Because I care!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

Hopefully, the rumors of us making meth in our bathroom have faded. The best part about these rumors: we had a stand-up shower in our apartment (in St. Paul). Very inefficient.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

No, your teeth still look fine; that's not what I suspect you of.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha I'd forgotten about those rumors! Oh well, you're primed to run for mayor of DC.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

The stand-up shower would have been perfect for spreading Legoinnaire's Disease, though...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

The Legionaires Disease would never have survived all the other diseases in that shower.

Yeah, that's right Legionaires Disease, I'm calling you out. You're a fucking sissy ailment.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

The problem I have with ILX: I get too easily overwhelmed by piles of text for subjects.
Somewhere it could say "FREE WHORES BY TEH DOZEN FOR THE FIRST SEVENTEEN THOUSAND POSTERS IN THIS THREAD!" and I wouldn't see it without looking for one of those words specifically.
Even then it's a 50/50 split on finding.

I think John's RED DEATH might beat his scurvy.
I mean, one makes your teeth kinda loose, the other puts you halfway in the fridge with a blanket and "Noooo nooo noooo noooo" becomes your response to the only way to keep your brain from igniting.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

I have yet to see N4tali3 perform. Of course, I will be gone this Friday, so once again I will miss her.

Dan, how did the wedding go? Did you kids own it or what?

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

I will be gone this Friday

Where shall I go, what shall I do? (I haven't channeled Scarlett O'Hara for a v. long time...)

We will be at the Entry Fri. night hoping to see what this M@tt H. dude looks like. Hope to see others, but fear I would not recognize them.

Dan - yeah, tell us about the wedding singing. You don't want us to leave the event to our imaginations. Trust me, you don't.

HOLY QUAC, MATT. I knew nothing about that.

(WCCO) Minneapolis Four people were injured in South Minneapolis in a stabbing that involved a sword, police said.

Police were called to an apartment building at West 31st Street and Lyndale Avenue South around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a stabbing.

Witnesses said they heard a scuffle in an upstairs apartment and said they saw several injured people running from the apartment.

"The first one that came around the corner had a sword in his hand," said witness Matthew Telfair. "And there was blood on it and stuff. And he was like 'Hey man!' ... and I was really scared at that point. I already saw somebody come down with what might have been a gun."

Police found two injured people inside the apartment. They were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Witnesses also reported seeing paramedics carrying a bag of severed fingers out of the apartment.

Police said they recovered a sword that was used in the stabbings at the scene.

Three more people showed up at HCMC. Two of those people were injured. All three of those people were arrested in connection with a burglary at the apartment building.

Police said none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 28 August 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

GZeus, we've met exactly one time and you got both answers correct. How is that even possible?
Well, the height one was simple. The answer was too specific. People under 5' 9" will often measure their height to the 1/8" level to get as much as possible and are EXCEEDINGLY accurate, while people over 5' 10" round to the nearest inch, and are often up to 3/4" off in either direction. I'm a little over 5' 11" and I only know that because I saw when I went to the doc.
The Breakfast one was also simple. You were in high school and it was the only one that included mountain dew.
In including the beverage of choice for upwards of 50% of the breakfast-eating populace between 16 and 19 you set that one as in the top two for this multiple choice set.
Lucky Charms are the only thing that a mountain dew will taste good after. This meal set being so plausible by itself combined with the time the question is set in and the happy-go-lucky but still aware of the joys of cynicissm attitude you readily exude led me to this answer.

I Own All Multiple Choice Tests.
Scored a 24 on my ACTs without looking at the math section. I had to piss SOOO BAAAAD.

I also HAVE to analize everyone I meet and plan on actually communicating with as opposed to just conversing with. My autism forces me to learn ways of communicating with each person individually based upon a set of guidlines kind of grouped in weird molecule-shaped sets in my head.(visual thinker)
I've met alot of people in my time and have an extensive library in the 'kinds of people I like to talk to' section.
if I don't like to talk to someone I either dislike it because they're a kind of person I'll never understand, or I'll never understand them becaus they're not the kind of person I like period.

You fit into box 'A' so I was able to glean together enough mannerisms , phraseologies and tone-of-voice patterns into a workable personality profile.
I simply had to reference a few stories for the past posted here, cross-reference ith my past and similar traits of friends and also with how I've seen John's personailty change over the past 4-5 years.
I combined the data from here and my past, used john's net-personality of here, (which based upon the fact he knows people here from high school is likely influenced by that) took hwat I know of him, extrapolated the changes back and pictured who that person would hang with.

The process of figuring the answers for both questions took something like 20 seconds.

I've somewhat over-expounded upon the thought proces involved, it's not so systematic and more piecemeal, but I prefer more data than needed to too little.

Also I like ot make myself look smart.

I have to say that that made me laugh, for more reasons than I can number. But here's one: I have spent many moments of my life repeating two of John's high school aphorisms to myself at appropriate moments, of course including the x number of years between then and now where we had lost touch. These would be, "Cynicism keeps you breathing" (vitally important to remember at election time, at least for me) and "Stupid people shouldn't breathe" (vitally important at (almost all moments).

Still, can you answer this one?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

TO be honest, having divulged my decoding method, I'm now unsure as to how you've chosen the answers.
It's tied 3 ways between the 3 cats, as it's stands out, and the dog and bird.
People with an appreciation for irony often name their pets odd or generic things.
John has a cat named Quimby, I had a dog named Skippy.

insofar as the autism thing, that's more of the sort of thing that needs real-time discussion.
My voice can go at any moment now, so phone is kind of out of the question.
messenger via 'mail that's hot' for me is saint of mingis with no spaces.
Windows live messenger for best compatability.

In the mean time, where does he fit on the spectrum, and what symptoms are most prevalent?
17 years to diagnosis for me, so I've had to, well, extrapolate back for all the things that have affected me in the past and so may do so in the future and find workarounds.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I'm not sure even the guys I knew best can answer the pet question - (John or Jeff seem the most likely to be able to). So I'll just let it hang there and see if anyone knows the answer.

GZeus, no need to chat about the autism thing right at this hot second; we've had the diagnosis (Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified - gotta love the NOS, which seems to mean "CATCHALL!") since he was in kindergarten and he's only 8 now. Hopefully we can talk in person sometime. (Okay, I also admit that I still don't have an IM program, although Austin bugged me about that just today. We have only MACs at our place, though...)

Briefly, 4l3x doesn't take verbal direction well (visual learner), echolalia (repeating or chanting meaningless syllables), serious sensitivity to taste and touch, mild stim behaviors (blinking rapidly, rocking a bit, very occasional flapping of arms), sometimes he decides he MUST crash into the walls or couches (for all I know that is a boy thing, sometimes it is hard to pull out what is just exuberance)... okay I could go on, but this is too long already! Let's talk sometime about it in person if you don't mind.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds like an exaggeration of many issues I have.
He's probably testing the effects of crashing.
Learning how his body reacts and/or how his environment reacts to him.

Often times in explaining instructions to an autistic child they must be told WHY the instruction should be followed and WHY they should find the outcome of following it beneficial to them AND the outcome of NOT following it a negative factor.

Insofar as the sylables, that's a method of developing an understanding of how the mouth and sound interact. At least it is for me.
To this day Weeze(www.myspace.com/sirweezejunk) and I will spend long periods of time exploring ways of making intersting sounds with our mouths.
"Slimblists, force limbs of horse fleds, whips fists press breasts, hard briss frees steves"
And it's more about making the mouth move in interesting ways. The odd imagery just makes it funny.
The reason I can speak languages with reasonably accurate accents is largely due to the fact that i used to make annoying reletetive noises onto tape cassettes and just in general.
It could also be something akin to a mantra. assigning a personal meaning to sounds, often related to a situation familiar to oneself, and forming a sort of solo version of twin-speak.
The mantra has the effect of solidifying that idea or image in the speakers mind(like any mantra).

I'd need to talk with him personally to say anything with any level of accuracy.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it's tricky because it is pretty mild and inconsistent. We didn't have any sense that anything was different about him until he was in preschool. (No real basis for comparison with other kids, plus mild symptoms...)

Part of what I'm wondering about is how (and when) to explain it to him; he has received special ed stuff since kindergarten, but the PDD-NOS has never been specifically addressed. Ugh, probably should have done it before this...

Interesting about the noises/syllables...

Well, let's talk more in person sometime (I'll be in the Cities quite a bit in the near future).

What I had forgotten about 18 month olds: you have to have your house baby-proofed, or entertain them constantly. On the other hand, they are crazily appreciative of any singing. We listened to the Cookie Monster album and then the soundtrack to Chicago.

Though you are stiffer than a girder, they'll let you get away with murder...
Is it me, or is that whole song about our President?

I have all Laibach ever.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 23:30 (nineteen years ago)

I lied.
There are things that were not the 'discography' zip.
Namely 'Neu konservativ'(?) WAT, and Jesus Christ Superstars.
At LEAST those.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 23:42 (nineteen years ago)

I beg of anyone.
When I get well enough to de-quarantine myself, PLEASE buy me a beer at the Triple Rock.
You can have some of my Cook's Revenge.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 00:21 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds more like a threat than a promise...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 01:46 (nineteen years ago)

Irish sounds drunk and scottish sounds sick.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 11:08 (nineteen years ago)

In general or do you mean that to apply to specific people?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 30 August 2006 12:18 (nineteen years ago)

I just woke up from a nap in which I had a dream about having to Viennese waltz with M1ke D0nnd3ling3r at a clambake. I should never nap.

To answer a question far upthread, I find Killing Joke - Pandemonium vaguely embarrasing. Do not apprehend.

So, due to my impulsiveness, there are now 2 Hastings threads...WHO WILL SURVIVE?

If this is the part where we separate and then the killer picks of off one by one, um... well you go first, okay?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:30 (nineteen years ago)

Now that's not nice. Can't I be the plucky sidekick that almost makes it to the end?

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

If we're the last two, you are so in trouble.

Er, I mean, not to worry, John, I've got your back.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 2 September 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

I downloaded Blue Sunshine.
No bonus disc, so I still have incentive to buy.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Sunday, 3 September 2006 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

My web browser is in irish because...I made it so.
I'm not sure what I've accomplished in that.
But.... it didn't make it so I can see this!:

HEY YOU GODDAMNED MOTHERFUCKERS, FB HAS GIVEN THE HEADNOD TO THIS:

Hastings looks hopefully toward the future with a dawning sense of the inevitability of all things NUMBER 5

so go there, OK? First one to photoshop the hastings cat into an inappropriate photo wins...well, nothing other than our collective accolades, which is prize enough.
