This is a thread where you ask for specific posts/threads to be deleted or amended, on ILE or ILM. I don't read all the threads there are, and nor do the other moderators, so this is a back-up because this is a thread we WILL read.

If you want to use it, give the thread and message (link to them if you know how) and your reasons and we'll do something about it (i.e. change it or reply saying why we're not.)

Thanks Graham. Yes we also need specific moderator emails in the FAQ. Me, Mark and who else is currently - Sean? I started this thread because I am bad with emails and only just opened one from N. wanting something important deleted.

I've updated the FAQ with this thread and with a request for people not to bother Graham with moderation queries.

We need sub-moderators in each of the major time zone regions that post to ILX - Europe, America, NZ/Aus.

I do have a question though: why not just delete stupid threads like "You are all gay" instead of just locking them? Why give the half-wits who post these things the satisfaction of seeing that their stupid comments are still floating around out there?

I'm with Nicole and Dr C: I'm not sure where locking but retaining them gets us. If there was anything there worth keeping, it might make sense, but it's just a bunch of dull, infantile insults. On the other hand, I can't say that I care much.

And I volunteer as a sub-moderator in the sense of moderating subs, in case any of these undersea vessels shows up. I'd extend that to subs as in sub-editors, but there may actually be one or two of them around here, so I'll stick with just Submarines. Or Namor The Sub-Mariner, if he shows up. I can handle him.

I started off locking them, then deleted most of them. I'm keeping some locked but active in case we get IP banning in and I need to refer back.

also: my thinking above was that if the person i was trying to slip this away from read that post but didn't see my name on it, this person would have no reason to suspect that the offending post has any personal relevance and wouldn't have bothered looking for it (or checking up on who the anonymous poster was, which so far as i know you'd actually have to do something to find out, right?) Graham, when the HTML checker was acting wacky, it also was skipping entirely over the feature that shows the posts that have been posted before you managed to press "submit" but after you loaded the page that surely must have a simple and clear name that I'm not thinking of right now. This may be fixed, but I'm mentioning it "just in case".

Let me know if you need me to be a little less clear about what I'm talking about.

I've added a new "later" feature for when you get bored in the middle of reading long threads and want to mark the rest as still unread. You can turn it off in the settings. I hope you like it, and I hope it works.

Is there a manual for the features? The FAQ doesn't seem to go into them, and I'm always wondering if there's something I'm missing. (Like, I just started noticing the "Subscribe" link at the bottom, and I'm unsure what it does. Oh, sure I could just click it and see...) (But also there's a feature I've been pining a bit for, where if you read a thread and decided you weren't interested in it, you could set it to "ignore" and it would stop showing up in the "New Answers" page. Obv there should be a "reveal all" button as well, in case you change your mind... Anyway, I dunno, maybe this feature exists already! Or maybe it would overload the system!)

You could be able to mark things in three priorities. Watch, Normal and ignore. Watch could be red, normal black and ignore grey.
