:-D

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, if that last dress was green and the hemline went to the floor, it would strongly resenmble the bride's maid dress made for an ex-girfriend of mine by the bride's crazy aunt.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Your friend was in the wedding party of Ming the Merciless's sister?

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

So pretty. I wish that Dan would have cast you in Fast Times as well Ned. Accuracy be damned; that dress suggests you would have been the perfect person to hang out with in the girl's bathroom between classes.

FB your dress description sounds alarmingly like my senior prom dress. (Green, metallic... not entirely sure what I was thinking there.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

Accuracy be damned; that dress suggests you would have been the perfect person to hang out with in the girl's bathroom between classes.

A vision.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:18 (nineteen years ago)

The kind of vision that you only get after weeks of Hastings-style hazing, but a vision's a vision.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Well this is a vision too -- I put it over on the 'best picture taken ever' thread but in case it got buried: friend Y brings out the birthday cake for her daughter Emma on Saturday. Easily one of the coolest pictures I have ever taken, period.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

Or, perhaps if you had a bad trip at a Star Terek convention.

Well, the dress was lame but it was not lame'. Crazy aunt hunted down some poor old lady's couch, hung it in her garage and skinned it. The cut and style, however bear a striking resemblance.

Nice pic. (xpost)

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Great photo Ned!

FB, I wish I could have seen that bridesmaid's dress. (Bridesmaids dresses are notoriously horrible, though. There's a whole website dedicated to awful ones; I might have it bookmarked downstairs. So it probably didn't take hunting down an old lady's couch; all you have to do is walk into one of those shops and you'll get overwhelmed by scary dresses.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:34 (nineteen years ago)

OK, John, bite the bullet and move to Hastings. I will help run your campaign.

Or, just claim your parent's address. Who cares if we get exposed. jail time for fraud is better than living there.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:37 (nineteen years ago)

Wouldn't that make him mayor of Welch, though? (Maybe it is too small for that, though.)

I will bake you cakes with nail files in them if you go to jail. Because I care!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:39 (nineteen years ago)

6 months before our first parole hearing, John and I choke to death on nail files.

You three haven't changed a bit.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:44 (nineteen years ago)

Hopefully, the rumors of us making meth in our bathroom have faded. The best part about these rumors: we had a stand-up shower in our apartment (in St. Paul). Very inefficient.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

No, your teeth still look fine; that's not what I suspect you of.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha I'd forgotten about those rumors! Oh well, you're primed to run for mayor of DC.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 7 August 2006 14:55 (nineteen years ago)

The stand-up shower would have been perfect for spreading Legoinnaire's Disease, though...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 7 August 2006 19:21 (nineteen years ago)

The Legionaires Disease would never have survived all the other diseases in that shower.

Yeah, that's right Legionaires Disease, I'm calling you out. You're a fucking sissy ailment.

John Justen, Tiny Fancy Lungdancer. (johnjusten), Monday, 7 August 2006 19:45 (nineteen years ago)

John's scurvy will challenge any person's Legionnaire's disease to a duel at dawn.

Win, though.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 04:36 (nineteen years ago)

The problem I have with ILX: I get too easily overwhelmed by piles of text for subjects.
Somewhere it could say "FREE WHORES BY TEH DOZEN FOR THE FIRST SEVENTEEN THOUSAND POSTERS IN THIS THREAD!" and I wouldn't see it without looking for one of those words specifically.
Even then it's a 50/50 split on finding.

I think John's RED DEATH might beat his scurvy.
I mean, one makes your teeth kinda loose, the other puts you halfway in the fridge with a blanket and "Noooo nooo noooo noooo" becomes your response to the only way to keep your brain from igniting.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 04:40 (nineteen years ago)

I didn't notice this in my most recent somewhat frivilous eBay aquisition:
"Realistic postage rates & no customer charges for using Paypal !"

"USE PAYPAL OR I AUTHORISE MYSELF TO FUCK YOU IN THE ASS WHEN YOU'RE NOT LOOKING!"

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 11:17 (nineteen years ago)

I swear she had a thing going with my brother for a while. This struck me as so odd that I Just Did Not Ask. (But I did always like her...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 8 August 2006 18:08 (nineteen years ago)

I have yet to see N4tali3 perform. Of course, I will be gone this Friday, so once again I will miss her.

Dan, how did the wedding go? Did you kids own it or what?

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 12:22 (nineteen years ago)

I will be gone this Friday

Where shall I go, what shall I do? (I haven't channeled Scarlett O'Hara for a v. long time...)

We will be at the Entry Fri. night hoping to see what this M@tt H. dude looks like. Hope to see others, but fear I would not recognize them.

Dan - yeah, tell us about the wedding singing. You don't want us to leave the event to our imaginations. Trust me, you don't.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 12:34 (nineteen years ago)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)

Hey everybody!

I've been shut out of ILX mostly! Can never log on...anyway, how's things?

Have you guys discussed the crazy dude who went apeshit in Uptown and stabbed a bunch of people with a SWORD!?

Sword Violence On the Rise In Minneapolis!!

My theory: Renn Fair kid gone bad. I blame the influence of Puke n' Snot.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:15 (nineteen years ago)

M@tt, that is why I never go into Minneapolis without a shield. Anyone who has ever been to Ren Fest saw this coming.

ILX has been having server problems, btw.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:19 (nineteen years ago)

HOLY QUAC, MATT. I knew nothing about that.

(WCCO) Minneapolis Four people were injured in South Minneapolis in a stabbing that involved a sword, police said.

Police were called to an apartment building at West 31st Street and Lyndale Avenue South around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on a report of a stabbing.

Witnesses said they heard a scuffle in an upstairs apartment and said they saw several injured people running from the apartment.

"The first one that came around the corner had a sword in his hand," said witness Matthew Telfair. "And there was blood on it and stuff. And he was like 'Hey man!' ... and I was really scared at that point. I already saw somebody come down with what might have been a gun."

Police found two injured people inside the apartment. They were taken to Hennepin County Medical Center.

Witnesses also reported seeing paramedics carrying a bag of severed fingers out of the apartment.

Police said they recovered a sword that was used in the stabbings at the scene.

Three more people showed up at HCMC. Two of those people were injured. All three of those people were arrested in connection with a burglary at the apartment building.

Police said none of the injuries are life-threatening.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

quoc?

Yeah, it looks like ilx is moving, dispersing, or transmuting, come mid-September.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:23 (nineteen years ago)

I read through that thread, FB, but my understanding of the debate is hampered by my eternal computer cluelessness.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

In sum:

We have a volunteer to host a new ILX machine.
We're looking for coders and some way to set up donations.
A lot of people have no sense of self-control (a personal observation on my part).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, I am only going to say this once: in terms of having computer-related stuff explained, you compare very favorably to my husband (he suffers from "way too much explanation-itis"). Thanks.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:30 (nineteen years ago)

is there a donations thingy up?

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:31 (nineteen years ago)

Not as yet. This whole thing just came up within the past twelve hours and nothing will happen to this server for at least a month, so there's time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:33 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't spent a lot of time on other message boards or chat rooms, but ilx seems to have a pretty unique structure and sense of community. Am I right?

I'll chip in some cash to ensure it's survival.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:38 (nineteen years ago)

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Seconded (of course).

FB are you going to tell us where you are going to this weekend? Or is it supersecret (in which case you might as well tell now because the supersecret stuff is what deX is all about finding out about).

As for your grammar and spelling, just do what I do and blame it on typing too fast with constant distractions.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

Am I right?

You're quite right, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:43 (nineteen years ago)

what we do in the Hastings thread echoes in Eternity!

At the same time, what happens in Hastings stays in Hastings... paradox?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

I'm going to Chicago for a bachelor party. Should be fun. I am so sad about missing M@tt's show. I've only seen Maps 3 times, but I *really* love the band. That is not a sound one hears much around the Cities.

Sara, based on my understanding of your taste in music, I believe Maps is a great fit for you.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

Have fun in Chicago; it sounds very fun. I think the closest thing to a bachelor party I've ever been invited to was my sister's bachelorette party the week before her wedding; I heard crazy stories. I couldn't make it because I was pregnant and I had the worst flu I've ever had in my life. So sad.

I'm sure we will enjoy Maps of Norway, thanks FB. (Although I hate to think what you think of when you think of my taste in music. I'd describe it as "broad and often dorky," but I don't suppose M@tt would find that flattering...).

I don't recall any actual swordfights while I was in Hastings.

Then again, I may be blocking things out.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:09 (nineteen years ago)

"swordfights"

The wedding went great! Both grooms loved us and gusts kept ambushing us the entire reception to tell us how awesome we were.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:29 (nineteen years ago)

You have impressed the wind!

John Justen, Tiny Fancy Lungdancer. (johnjusten), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

Dammit, what happened to my 'e'?

(That could be a synopsis of my college experience, ha)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Dan I never knew...

Sounds like the wedding was great fun; I'm sure you and J031 were great!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:40 (nineteen years ago)

So far, the best story is how the flower girl and her grandmother (the mother of one of the grooms) were in the restroom at the hotel, which had 2 other receptions going on at the same time as ours. A woman walked in as the flower girl was washing her hands and started gushing, "Oh, aren't you cute! I bet you look just like the bride!" and the flower girl without missing a beat or looking at her said, "We had two men."

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

Please to tell me the woman's reaction.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

"Oh... Um... Oh... Well... Oh... ..."

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

Well, the flowergirl then didn't look much like the bride, did she?

(great story...)

John Justen, Tiny Fancy Lungdancer. (johnjusten), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:05 (nineteen years ago)

I was going to throw in something about pirhana or sharks myself, John.

Also want to hear J031 sing (er, and Dan, too, of course).

Safely back from St. Paul; visited St. Kate's to buy books (ouch) and wished I knew if C4lli3 was there. Was amused by brilliant SIL's (with PhD!) inability to read maps.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:09 (nineteen years ago)

Bad news, folks. J0J0 has a work project that is spiralling into clusterfuckdom that means she won't be able to go to MN over Labor Day weekend.

All together now: BOO H4RV4RD L4W SCH00L! BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Possibly the funniest part of the reception was when the grooms announced that, in lieu of the traditional tossing of the bouquet, they were going to start a new tradition for gay male weddings where they tossed feather boas off the ballroom balcony into the crowd to the tune of "We Are Family".

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:13 (nineteen years ago)

Awesome story about the feather boas. We missed out on our friends J3ffr3y and J4mes' ceremony a couple of years ago because we couldn't find the money to go to San Francisco (or a way to deal with the kids). I'm still sad about that.

Is J0J0 the same as J031? Does she work at the law school? I'm so confused, please fix.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:20 (nineteen years ago)

J0J0 is my stripper girlfriend. J031 is my wife. Every Thursday night we put on Zubaz and have topless pillowfights.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

(non-dickish answer: J0J0 is a pet name for J031 and she does work at HLS part-time.)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

Zubaz are what my brother used to wear circa 1989. Don't think I've forgotten (my God, I only wish; one of the many things from that era that should be erased somehow).

BTW, Dan, you are a smartass. I still worship the quicksand you walk on. Actually, that is probably why.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

Well, I do wish to meet J031. So come soon, screw the law school. (oh I am flip about the law school, am I not?)

Totally off topic, I am realizing how many Harvard grads I know; finally something I can be proud of in my social group. (So I'm counting Dan, my friend 3mily who went to the Divinity School there, and also MJ's husband. And I know someone else who is applying for grad school for 2008! What is this mysterious Harvard allure? I wish I knew. Someday I'm going to visit Boston, dammit.)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:36 (nineteen years ago)

It's too bad that J031 won't be coming, but this all does mean I can get you as drunk as possible without healthy intervention. Awesome.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

I remember those awful Zubaz like it was yesterday. Zebra stripes! My god, WHY?! He seems to have better taste in his present incarnation (plus he is the favorite uncle of all the kids).

I remember L4r4! She might not remember me, though.

The person applying to go to Harvard is A's best friend's girlfriend. Suffice it to say, he is not happy about it... his best friend and running buddy may move away.

Am I remembering correctly that J031 won't visit MN in winter? (Or am I just thinking she is sensible and therefore won't).

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:39 (nineteen years ago)

Someday I'm going to visit Boston, dammit

It's very good fun. They wake you up every day by flinging you into a huge pool of Dunkin Donuts coffee. Then later you get into amusing arguments with Dan about why his doorbell sounds like a phone.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

There's nothing quite like using your cell phone to email someone to post a message on the Internet to ANSWER THE FUCKING DOOR because you gave them your keys.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:41 (nineteen years ago)

It's weird, I hear these strange complaints, but they are obscured by the phone going off.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:42 (nineteen years ago)

How sad that I have been missing that for so long! My close friend C0ry is visiting Boston next May for her reunion (she went to Lawrence, I think), and I talked about going with her for the weekend, but as it turns out, I will have class that weekend. (*Dan is relieved*.)

Why does his doorbell sound like a phone? (Is this somehow related to the fact that my car sounds like someone is playing a Gameboy in it for some reason?)

Also Dan, I TOTALLY thought of you this afternoon as I drove up Summit Ave. I was thinking, "oh yeah, this is exactly where we were when we had incorrect directions to St. Kate's - on our way to the Cure concert. Well... we were pretty close to where we needed to be...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

So, Dan, are you really coming to MN? If John really gets you horribly drunk, may I watch? (voyeurism! so Hastings.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

What the hell do you think I'm going to do to him? I don't use Rohipnol in my cocktails anymore, you know.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 21:58 (nineteen years ago)

Jeez, John, you'd think I was accusing you of something untoward. And you know I would never do that. The very idea!

Seriously, I just need entertainment of a different sort than usual. But if this is one of your special dates, well, far be it from me to interfere.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:00 (nineteen years ago)

hahaha I was totally going to make a "Swordfight Revue"/rohypnal joke but then I had to leave work.

I should be in town over Labor Day weekend, yes. I need to book a flight (and buy a chastity belt, apparently).

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:28 (nineteen years ago)

Well, that's probably not sufficient, but I promise to protect you, Dan...

(Also, YAY!)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:52 (nineteen years ago)

I HAVE TOOLS. PLIERS, BOLTCUTTERS, DEDICATION, PERSEVERENCE.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 22:59 (nineteen years ago)

See what I mean? No one is safe.

No one.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 9 August 2006 23:11 (nineteen years ago)

Important update: in-laws all safely gone now. My life can return to "normal."

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 03:14 (nineteen years ago)

Mr John
pianos
Birds
a steaming pile of organs.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Thursday, 10 August 2006 03:42 (nineteen years ago)

Is that supposed to be another of John's campaign slogans? Because in that case I might consider leaving the last line off.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

I was trying to give him an awesome new handle.
I'm going for two in a row! Well, i modified something inspired by Wellstones! Cigarettes... WHICH BOTH DISCOVERED AND PROVIDED! To the displeased pleasure of all involved.
I require credit where I do the dew. I'm seriously going insane from watching this old John Wayne Movie "SeaBees." AKA Death of A Cavalcade of Stereotypes

I'd like to note I didn't at all remember what I'd said in my last post.
And I laughed my ass off as though someone else did it.
I LOVE that last line!

The GZeus (The GZeus), Thursday, 10 August 2006 05:58 (nineteen years ago)

Steaming Pile of Organs might be the best insult ever.

That last post was unintentionally inspired by something from many years ago.

I do collage work and I had taken a picture from the local paper of a Latino Gentleman with puffy hair and a terrible light-colored suit and added the words "Mud Sweat, and you"
He had this toothy grin and overall looked like that date to pick your sister up for the prom with a fully open rose that had no business doing any of those things.
So NOW i see a picture of John with a big toothy grin(WE LOVE THEE SUUUBS!!!) and posters standing in peoples yards that say that.
"Mr John:
Pianos, Birds, A Steaming Pile of Organs"
Jeff, you have your assignment.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Thursday, 10 August 2006 06:05 (nineteen years ago)

I believe this captures the sentiment:

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

Labr day weekend is noted and booked.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 11:58 (nineteen years ago)

That photo is really disturbing to me.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 12:06 (nineteen years ago)

Hard to imagine casting him as Nosferatu.

Or Bobby Peru, for that matter.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 12:30 (nineteen years ago)

Film casting is one of those mysteries that stay at home moms do not get to know about. (I am sort of joking, but I went to a movie by myself a couple of years ago and almost felt intimidated buying a ticket. "How do I do this again?")

We finished watching Serenity last night. Wow it was better after watching all of Firefly.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 12:41 (nineteen years ago)

I stumbled across this on the comission a poem thread (thanks again, Beth Parker):

For Your Own Good

Against my hallowed flesh, no trace
of carbon-based molecular taint,
no stranger's strange DNA tingling
on my nether cheeks, no creatures
creeping into my caverns,
but rather the powder-dry newness of plastic,
slinking and sheeting the world
like the condom of God,
sliding between the clean and unclean
like veils between the bashful bride and her
rough-mannered bridegroom.
My lace-encased purity is a magnet to the soil,
the muck, the many-legged things.
The legions leap to sully me,
vaulting off the seat,
the rim, the pool within.
get behind me, polluters! Defilers!
Befoulers of water-closets,
breeders of vermin,
and rogue inseminators.
Keep your fetid fluids to yourselves,
lest you desiccate from this wanton
broadcasting of invisible spew.
I shall not be the cause
of your self-mummification.
InterHygiene Automated Toilet Seat Protection System
Is for your protection, too.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:01 (nineteen years ago)

I will have to watch Firefly one of these days.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:02 (nineteen years ago)

don't bother (sorry Sara). I like the conceit and all, but cannot STAND the way they talk.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:03 (nineteen years ago)

"Stumbled across..."

Fluuuuuufffffy Bear... I'm pretty sure you commissioned that brilliance yourself... Silly.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:04 (nineteen years ago)

gbx, is it the random Chinese thrown in or the poor grammar or something else?

(I actually saw Serenity in the theater and was confused for half the movie - the film broke twice, so I missed some of it. Now am in love with all the characters and if Mal Reynolds comes to the door, I can't be held responsible for what I might do. Oddly, I thought Nathan Fillion was kind of unattractive before watching all of that...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:06 (nineteen years ago)

The random Chinese I like. It's the weird cowboy talk that gets thrown in.

In particular, "Been over a year since I had anything twixt my nethers that don't run on batteries."

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

Scratch that:

"Going on a year now I ain't had nothin' twixt my nethers that weren't run on batteries."

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:08 (nineteen years ago)

I think I just got used to that (the talk, not the batteries). Probably wouldn't talk like that myself, however.

(Okay, if I knew Chinese, I would certainly throw that in, I admit that. But all I know how to say in Chinese is "I have some suggestions for you.")

The Reavers, however, freaked me out.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

GBX, the past is the future DO YOU SEE.

Firefly I rank with Blake's 7 and Babylon 5 -- interesting enough conception, irritating execution.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

My friend 4ndr3w loves Babylon 5 (and Firefly). I am not going to tell him there is something called Blake's 7 because if he doesn't know, it is probably a Good Thing. I don't want his wife to kill me.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)

Blake's 7

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:21 (nineteen years ago)

I love the late 70s look of that. You just know that there is an avocado colored appliance lurking just off the set...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:25 (nineteen years ago)

i LOVED serenity!

and i've never even seen that firefly show or whatever!

i was bummed they didn't get that dude from serenity to be Indiana Jones in the new film instead of harrison ford. he would've been perfect.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:32 (nineteen years ago)

M@tt, what a great idea. As much as I love Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones (and Han Solo!) in the movies from the past, he does seem a bit old for it now...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 13:50 (nineteen years ago)

jah, i love harrisson too, but i think it's going to seem a little odd now...unless they transistion him into the older statesman type (sean connery in the third one) type character...the guy from serenity would be just the right age, and def even looks a bit the part of a younger harrison, i thought he would've had just the right charisma for the part.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:09 (nineteen years ago)

Time warp, you see. Sean will be Harrison's son this time out.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:10 (nineteen years ago)

WTF the fuck is wrong with you people? Motherfucking Harrison Ford. Motherfucking when he is on a resparator pushing 90, he will be the only choice for Indiana Jones. Motherfucking incredulous am I.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Now I see Jeff as an angry little Yoda.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 14:14 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:01 (nineteen years ago)

So's Yoda.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:11 (nineteen years ago)

See?

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:32 (nineteen years ago)

All is love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:35 (nineteen years ago)

It's like we're the Lieberman-McCain party.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:43 (nineteen years ago)

...from HELL.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:45 (nineteen years ago)

gbx, you are completely, totally, absolutely wrong about "Firefly"/"Serenity" (the goofy cowboy talk is part of what makes it so damn funny). In general I think Joss Whedon can go fuck a moose but I will THROW DOWN when it comes to "Firefly" and the first 4 issues of Astonishing X-Men.

(xpost: most redundant "...from HELL" ever?)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:46 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, I'm not saying anything against Harrison Ford who is still sexy, no doubt about that, BUT I think the fact that he is with (or was) Calista Flockhart is influencing me. She's way too bony. (Of course Lara Flynn Boyle was worse at one point, so I guess it could have been worse...)

Firefly made me laugh and was good treadmill fodder. Plus lots of eye candy. And some excitement. But to each their own...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Not actually very upset about Harrison Ford am I. But loyal a good fan must be, otherwise, to the dark side of...

Oh fuck it. I tried.

The Lieberman-McCain party was a reference to David Brooks's op-ed in the NYT today.

OMG, David Brooks is to critical analysis as Jello is to keystone arch.

Dan OTM RE Whedon, but I enjoyed Serenity.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 17:05 (nineteen years ago)

Maybe they could dig that kid from "Young Indiana Jones" out of whatever unmarked shallow grave they buried him in and use him...

"THAT MOOSE SHURE DO GOT A PURTY MOUTH...."

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 August 2006 17:12 (nineteen years ago)

David Brooks aaaaaaaaargh. Ever time I see him on C-Span (shockingly often) I wonder how many people he's prodding into taking vows of celibacy. (Seriously, as an analyst he sucks and I can't take him seriously, plus there is something about his face that makes me want to become a recluse. Yuck.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 17:13 (nineteen years ago)

*shudders* (xpost) The way he talks... (in response to both Dan and Sara)

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

Fluffy, I never knew you were so easily distressed...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 18:44 (nineteen years ago)

You should have seen the face he used to make when we'd make jokes about having oral sex with R3na what's-her-face.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:47 (nineteen years ago)

I am having the *worst* Perkins conversation flashback EVER, thankyouverymuch, Dan.

(so yeah, I think I've seen that expression on more than one of your faces)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:51 (nineteen years ago)

Rena jokes>>>Brooks writing>>>Whedon speaking

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

No, I'm trying to think if anything made them cringe more than joking about that poor girl and I'm coming up short. (Give me time, though; I'm sure there are things I have forgotten).

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

That's the face! "Urkel Face" = "OMGWTF, I am so disgusted. IML"

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:54 (nineteen years ago)

Luckily it was a look that suited you all well.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it suited them well. My look is more aristocratic.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

I would love permission to use that poem in a song.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:07 (nineteen years ago)

Ned, if you looked like that I would have been forced to say that you looked like a scandalized Smurf.

An aristocratic scandalized Smurf.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:09 (nineteen years ago)

Well yes. You don't look like that?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:16 (nineteen years ago)

No; for one thing, I'm quite a bit shorter.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:19 (nineteen years ago)

All is clear now. John is Gargamel and Jeff is Azrael. Run away!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

That tactic has been less than successful in the past.

I suggest disabling using advanced kneecapping techniques.

Alternatlively, you can give up and assimilate.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:23 (nineteen years ago)

Ned is Vanity! The locks! The Locks!

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

"SEX...SHOOTER"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:44 (nineteen years ago)

Okay I'm thinking running away was the right way to go...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 10 August 2006 20:48 (nineteen years ago)

dudez, i love H-Fo as much as the next guy, but you gotta admit Harrison's turned into a wierd old coot. He's more like David Letterman than Indiana Jones now.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 11 August 2006 13:44 (nineteen years ago)

The new Indiana Jones should be the guy who plays Mike the Plumber on "Desperate Housewives".

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 August 2006 13:59 (nineteen years ago)

rawr! he's a hottie!

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Dudez, Han Solo could kick all your dad's asses.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, my dad would take tha Han Solo thing down hardcore, DAMMMNNN

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:17 (nineteen years ago)

I'm not afraid of Dan's dad.

My Dad always has that odd Crocodile Dundee look about him. Still!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:41 (nineteen years ago)

I now imagine Sara's dad welcoming her friends over with a growl and talking about shrimps on Barbies, and I fear.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:43 (nineteen years ago)

I can imagine John's dad welcoming John's friends over by pulling out a big fucking knife.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:45 (nineteen years ago)

My Dad was usually friendly and only seriously embarrassing one time that I recall.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

John's Dad. You never knew what to say to him. The one thing I remember him saying to me? "If you don't like Mozart, you can't leave." Okaaaaaay, yeah, Mozart is good. Gotta run now!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:47 (nineteen years ago)

hahahahaha I can so see that conversation transpiring! (complete with INTENSE STARE)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:48 (nineteen years ago)

Exactly! Although I'm not sure you'd call that a conversation. I feel lucky that I didn't get locked into the attic with John's alleged cousin.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 11 August 2006 14:50 (nineteen years ago)

Han Solo has little chance against my dad, and NONE against John's.
NONE.

Since when are MREs WORTH LOTS OF MONEY?
"Enriched and full of preservatives, these mediocre tasting ediple products are shoved in cheap plastic bags and shipped to you in a carboard box with little to no padding. $72.00 USD."
I don't vee that ~$6.50 per meal is a good deal.
maybe 3 bucks.
"But they're good for 5 years!"
So're these ravioli'o's.
And these are canned, marketed, carefully labeled, and cost the same as this little cardboard sleeve labeled 'RAVIOLI IN SAUCE.'

and PEOPLE PAY THAT MUCH FOR THEM.
Hell, I'm not even willing to buy food off eBay AT ALL.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Friday, 11 August 2006 19:38 (nineteen years ago)

Happy weekend! (And yeah, buying food on eBay does sound like it could end in disaster...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 11 August 2006 20:40 (nineteen years ago)

You know what sucks about gaining more responsibilities at work?

YOU GET STUCK THERE ON FRIDAY NIGHT FIXING PROBLEMS

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 August 2006 22:27 (nineteen years ago)

Dan - I hope you got out before midnight...

I'll never forget the morning I realized woke up to realize that I was in labor with J; A. was in the President's office at Carleton doing something. He informed me that he had 'about 10 minutes work' to do and then he'd be home." I told him fine, I would JUST HAVE THE BABY AT HOME THEN and hung up on him. Sure, it's funny in retrospect...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 12 August 2006 12:49 (nineteen years ago)

That's why I can't deal with working for someone.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Sunday, 13 August 2006 04:46 (nineteen years ago)

hello? anyone there?

i guess ILX has been down? i haven't been able to get on at all.

how's everyone?

i've been good.

CD release show was fun...unfortunately plagued by a blown fuse and power outage for the entry, so i spent about an hour and a half freaking out about how they were going to fix it so we didn't have to cancel the show (and drinking copious amounts of scotch to calm down)...but overall it was fun....saw j0hn there...sara i'm sorry if i missed you things got a bit crazier than i would have liked.

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:09 (nineteen years ago)

It's ALIVE!

M@tt, y'all rawk.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:22 (nineteen years ago)

i was real happy we got to play...a little while into it sonia and nate were like "dude you might have to send everyone home" i got morose for awhile!

(thx for coming j0hn)

M@tt He1geson: Real Name, No Gimmicks (Matt Helgeson), Tuesday, 15 August 2006 22:41 (nineteen years ago)

M@tt, sorry I didn't manage to meet you. John pointed you out to me but it didn't dawn on me (in the incredibly loud milieu) that I should walk over and introduce myself. (apparently I'm still recovering my IQ from those painkillers I took in 2002...) We had to leave pretty early because Northfield is a long drive (plus we thought the kids might not fall asleep with us not home; thankfully they both had). Well, I shall meet you next time. And someday hear the famous Maps of Norway!

I did get to meet GZeus and impress him with my fantastic Japanese (shawaa o abimasu).

I got home from Hastings tonight with no damage to spirit or person (obviously I didn't visit my family).

And yay for ILX being back up!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:41 (nineteen years ago)

Well.
I think I had several things to say, and having forgotten them, I amp tempted to ramble about extict video games(I've always been obsessed with them, in part because there is an END to the collection, and hope of some bizzare permutation reissue).

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 00:57 (nineteen years ago)

You know, you should have been with us earlier in the evening on Friday. A. and my cousin were going on about old video games and I had no clue what they were describing (I did recognize the name "Pong"). Because B3th is quite a bit younger than I am, she described some that sounded really strange. One that had something to do with... I think it was spelling and mice or something. It must have been meant to be educational...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 01:10 (nineteen years ago)

TYPING OF THE DEAD

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 02:56 (nineteen years ago)

God if that is some kind of computer game that teaches typing by scaring the crap out of people with zombies... well, it probably would improve my typing ability... BUT. I have never recovered from the Bye Bye, Birdie cast party at H3id1 V4n d3 St33g's house; we watched Night of the Living Dead. I don't do horror movies anymore. Especially ones where people are eaten alive. Brrrrrrrr.

There have been a number of horribly unsuccessful edutainment systems.
That sounds like it's this really silly-ass Sega one called like a Picolo but not that.
I can find out in like 5 minutes.

Hello. Happy Wednesday, friends.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 13:45 (nineteen years ago)

Yay Wednesday?

(You know what they say about Wednesdays, don't you...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 13:48 (nineteen years ago)

I have no idea. What do theey say about Wednesdays?

How was the Maps show?

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

Goodness; I thought everyone knew that Wednesday is also known as "hump day." (It is really hard to leer suggestively online, that is what I have learned to day).

But really, Wednesday is the middle of the week, thus if you get through Wednesday you have made it over the hump - all downhill from here. (Ummmmm, actually that sounds really depressing in the other context).

Technical problems at the Entry plus having to leave in order to relieve babysitter prevented me from seeing the Maps of Norway. But M@tt, John and GZeus can inform you further.

How was Chicago?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 14:06 (nineteen years ago)

The bachelor party was a success. Caught the Sox game Saturday morning. Went bar-hopping mostly around Wrigley Field that night. No arrests. No dead hookers. Mostly tame. The memory that will stay with me:

At three in the morning we left the Tin Lizzie to hook up with the objects d’amore of couple optimistic members of our party. The cabbie deposited us seven blocks from the “Game Cuber” (not the right name and not the right cross street SHOCKER) and we walked the rest of the way to the Game Room (thanks hordes of random drunks for the somewhat conflicting but nevertheless ultimately useful directions). Our bachelor walked the entire route in that stumblebum shuffle where the knees don’t bend; it’s more of a series of interrupted falls that work so long as the agent is leaning forwards and not, cross your fingers, backwards. For the duration of the walk the bachelor, in a high-pitched voice more of bewilderment than complaint, randomly blurted the following phrases: “Where am I?”, “I want to stop walking.”, “What are we doing here?”, “Who am I?”, “Where are we going?”, “Why is it still outside?”, “I don’t wanna.”, “Who are you people?”, etc. As we slouched past a series of red-brick townhouses and condos with marble steps, I plucked a clump of petunias from a flower box and placed them in the bachelor’s breast pocket. He was, not surprisingly, unaware. I plucked petunia after petunia as we walked down the avenue, placing them in every pocket, his belt, and finally behind his ear (the first attempt was swatted away; the second remained). At the end of our trek, as we ambled into the sparsely populated Game Room, the flower-bedecked bachelor stopped, nearly tipped backwards as he threw up his hands (shaking loose a few petunias), and announced to the bar, “Finally! I have arrived!” Laughter and applause from the patrons. Then we fed him more beer and shots.

I love the petunias part. Beautiful.

It sounds like it all worked out in the end. What time did you start playing anyway? (And did the scotch help or hurt?)

I will make a better attempt to meet you next time. (I had forgotten how distracting it is to try to talk to people in the midst of deafening music. Yet more evidence that I need to get out more...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:29 (nineteen years ago)

SCOTCH ALWAYS HELPS.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Remember when there was only one set of footprints in the sand? THAT IS WHEN SCOTCH CARRIED YOU.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

Funny, I don't remember it that way at all.

(Actually, I don't remember any of what you refer to at all. Rohypnol again?)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 18:01 (nineteen years ago)

Remember when there was only one set of footprints in the sand? THAT IS WHEN SCOTCH CARRIED YOU.

And here I thought that was Paul Reubens. Whew. That's a load off.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 18:25 (nineteen years ago)

Things can always be worse, can't they. (Paul Reubens worse than, say, Paul Reiser, for example.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 18:28 (nineteen years ago)

Pauly Shore would've been more of a threat than a consolation.

Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

The other two were consolations more than threats? Oh my.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

Do we get to choose who does what?

I'm just pointing out that coca-cola is volatile.

Jesus and soda, mud in your eye.
Baby, do I feel high,
oh, me, oh, my. Do I feel high.

Dry Holy Spirit, jigger of God.
Oh, what a spell you've got me in,
oh, my. Do I feel high.

People won't believe me.
They'll think that I'm just braggin'.
But I could feel the way I do
and still be on the kneeler.

All I need is one of your smiles.
Sunshine of your eyes,
oh, me, oh, my. Do I feel high.

People won't believe me.
They'll think that I'm just braggin'.
But I could feel the way I do
and still be on the kneeler.

All I need is one of your smiles.
Sunshine of your eyes, oh, me, oh, my.
Do I feel higher than a kite can fly.
Give me lovin', baby. I feel high.

Oh yeah, Jesus.
Love me like that.
Balls deep, baby.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

One is an insinuation of questionable deeds and the other is merely perplexing. Neither qualify as a threat so much as PS.

Closer.

You know, I wish I had the picture from the Hastings newspaper of me going to the baccalaureate mass (to placate my mother) from the end of my senior year. It had a similar quality to that album cover. (I didn't have booze and a cigarette, of course, but neither was I wearing a frumpy pastel dress like every other girl... the evening had many lowlights, including listening to Michael W. Smith's "Friends" song; while everyone else got teary, I... did not.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 16 August 2006 21:29 (nineteen years ago)

This is notably different in plot and intent from the Manga.

It was still fascinating, the first issue.

I watched it because it IS at the triple rock. Probably filmed for $500.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 17 August 2006 20:24 (nineteen years ago)

It DOES have the closest thing to bestiality in a big budget studio film.
I have no idea how that affects it's standing on any list...

The GZeus (The GZeus), Friday, 18 August 2006 01:26 (nineteen years ago)

I remember almost nothing except thinking that the "Bram Stoker's" part of the title (Bram Stoker's Dracula) had to have been meant ironically.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Friday, 18 August 2006 02:43 (nineteen years ago)

I think they meant it monetaraly.

I just played Chrono Trigger for over an hour.
In Japanese.
Not that I could read alot of it(one character speaks in an insanely thick and formal SAMURAI dialet, the royal family speaks high keigo which I oddly understood... not sure what that means. Alot of Kanji, too), what I did read is alot funnier, and I wouldn't have to read it anyway.
I could play it in russian, swedish, arabic... DOESN'T MATTER. I can play it with my feet without looking directly at the creen. I'VE DONE IT BEFORE.

In fact I set the battle modes to harder ones just for more of a challenge.
THE ATTACK NAMES ARE DIFFERENT AND IT DOESN'T MATTER.
I haven't played it in years and I can just go "Oh, now I need to do that, so I'll press this sequence of buttons and kill"
SPINAL FUNCTION.
If I did a blood transfuction I'm sure the recieving human(in addition to getting high from all the meds) would BE ABLE TO PLAY CHRONO TRIGGER.

I've seen all 11 main endings and variations of most of them.
I used to level up by playing the game through.
Fight the same series of wimps in the forect for an hour or two? I DON'T THINK SO. I think I'll BEAT THE GAME 3 times.
The same way EVERY TIME.
Fastest way to winning.
Then I'd work at accumulating more items and becoming so strong NOTHING could stop me.

This was accomplished in part by a trick my brother (ex-in-law) found.
He spend 6 hours fighting the same battle over and over.
Steal the same item from the same monsters.
I was FLOORED when I heard that.
He had a save on the system with MAXED OUT magic power on EVERY character.
Then I went on to bit by bit max every character as much as possible.

Then I lent it to my then girlfriend, and somehow that save was erased.
it's wuite possible the fact that I had a Game Gear save on it that was so fucked it screwed the system, but she may (VERY DOUBTFUL) have deleted it on purpose, but I think she was ashamed of ACCIDENTALLY deleting it and lied.
But I don't remember if you CAN just delete a save in CT....

This game was my sole entertainment source save random TV things for 2-3 years.
THAT'S INSANE.
I had an old-school Geocities site(long gone, I loved it) dedicated to subtexts and retardo descriptions of characters.
I sprayed my hair the color of my fav character, I bought a replica sword like the one he carried, GREW MY HAIR TO THE SAME LENGTH.
Used his name on EVERY message board, wait, they were all CHAT ROOMS then.
Remember CHAT ROOMS?
There was a CT chatroom I had regular DAILY meetings in.
I SOMEHOW developed a crush on the webmaster until I saw she was really palsied and horse-like.
Still cool. Not attractive.

WOW.
This is the most meaningless crap I've ever written, but it's a bit of an insight onto how far into things I get.

John, now you know why I know everything about the brands you carry.

OUCH, I'm sorry; I hate it when that happens. (I really REALLY do.) I don't suppose you have a good supply of Advil plus a heating pad at work...?

But happy anniversary (despite neck pain) - and enjoy your dinner if you can.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 15:22 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, get some topical pain-pein relief medicine. A stick or roll-on is better than a patch. It makes a world of difference. Inthrew my neck out a couple of months ago, and it made a world of difference.

Fluffy Bear is bigger and bolder and rougher and tougher (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rai, Monday, 21 August 2006 16:19 (nineteen years ago)

Hi everybody...I'm AOK, despite what drunken myspace posts at 4 in the morning might imply.

Again, I will throw in a mention of the healing and pain-crushing powers of Scotch. It's a fucking muscle relaxant...what more do you need?

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:48 (nineteen years ago)

It's a fucking muscle relaxant

See, this can sometimes be the problem.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 August 2006 16:51 (nineteen years ago)

Scotch's little helpers.

Fluffy Bear is bigger and bolder and rougher and tougher (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rai, Monday, 21 August 2006 17:11 (nineteen years ago)

John, I missed the post, but I assume it's hidden for good reason. It may be wise to install a breathalizer on your computer. If you blow positive you cannot access your web browser or your email client.

(Glad to hear you're OK. Of course, now you've piqued my curiosity)

Fluffy Bear is bigger and bolder and rougher and tougher (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rai, Monday, 21 August 2006 17:16 (nineteen years ago)

Possibly you could have someone rub your neck; sometimes that helps. (If you can afford it, I totally recommend getting a massage once in a while. I can't afford it, actually, but have done it twice.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:17 (nineteen years ago)

I meant that for Dan, but you know what, I think it's fantastic for anybody. (I don't, however, recommend having a seaweed wrap. That is less fabulous and more strange...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:19 (nineteen years ago)

I have a warming patch on it right now and I've taken Advil. I'm still not happy.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

You could exercise enough to get your body really warm (A. claims that nothing helps his stiff neck issues more than running 2 miles. Of course he also claims 6 to 8 is better, so clearly we're dealing with a person with some serious mental health issues as well...).

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:24 (nineteen years ago)

It took me a week to feel like normal. The first couple days, I could not turn my head without turning my whole body. Dude, that sucked.

But seriously, get someone to give you a massage as well.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:30 (nineteen years ago)

Can't you buy self-heating massage oils as well? That couldn't hurt...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 17:37 (nineteen years ago)

KY Sensual Mist.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 21 August 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

Nothing says "I love you" like asking your spouse to massage your sore neck with KY products. After that, let her pick a restaurant of her choice off dinnercoupon.com.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 21 August 2006 19:23 (nineteen years ago)

Fluffy Bear: clearly the most romantic-minded of our high school clique.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 19:28 (nineteen years ago)

Where do you think he got his quality of fluff?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 August 2006 19:31 (nineteen years ago)

I never thought to speculate...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 21 August 2006 19:32 (nineteen years ago)

What can you say about Tuesday? At least it's not Monday.

Dan, is your neck any better? (And how was dinner?)

John, I hope you're sober (and well).

Everybody else - please tell me where the sun went.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 12:45 (nineteen years ago)

What sort of person wishes sobriety on someone? Have you no heart?

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 15:39 (nineteen years ago)

You're right, John, I'm so sorry. As you know, I am completely heartless. I hope you can forgive me. Someday.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 16:39 (nineteen years ago)

i have no idea what is going on.

today, i am in washington county!

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:06 (nineteen years ago)

this afternoon, i am going to the body works exhibit with the fam!

yesterday, i watched doctors put like a million screws into a 4 year old's spine!

SO MUCH SCIENCE!

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:07 (nineteen years ago)

gbx, that all sounds really fun!

I am going to make chocolate chip cookies this afternoon. And ignore my children's activities.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:10 (nineteen years ago)

gbx in town = shitfacedstravaganza FAP.

When? How? Who will survive, and what will be left of them?

COMMENCE PLANNING NOW.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:20 (nineteen years ago)

i might have to leave tomorrow! ;_;

(i only got in on Sunday)

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:45 (nineteen years ago)

UNACCEPTABLE.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:48 (nineteen years ago)

i know :(

gbx (skowly), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:49 (nineteen years ago)

John forgets how long it takes to travel to Montana when you are going by covered wagon. (That is how I always think of John: kind, but so forgetful...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

gbx, figure out your business. There's irresponsible drinking to be done. Dan, looking forward to Labor Day weekend. Also, has anyone run into Suzy? How's the new job going? When are we going to the bar to play pull tabs? Ned, fire up the sub. John, our quartermaster, make sure your mini-fridge is stocked with cheap beers (in cans, of course). Sara, our scrivener, embarrassing stories from the annals, please. I'll be the treasurer. I'll set up a paypal account. I realize I'm howling into the void, but please send money anyway. Thank you.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:34 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, the stories I have leftover are almost all too embarrassing to tell. That being said, I do wonder how long the DQ sign read "Satan Gives Good Head." (Remember that?)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 18:38 (nineteen years ago)

I remember that the cops drove by when it was my turn to go out and rearange the letters. I looked back at the DQ and you guys were nowhere to be seen. You were already half way to the car by the time I spotted you. I don't remember whether it was Sara, John or K4t3 who told me that you whispered really loud that the cops were coming before you turned heel and ran.

The cop, of course, didn't notice the kid loitering in front of the sign that read "SATAN GIVES GOOD HEAD" (at two in the morning on the main drag through Hastings).

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:25 (nineteen years ago)

John was not there; that was my little brother!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:29 (nineteen years ago)

Where the hell John was is lost to history; the ONE thing I didn't write down, apparently.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 19:30 (nineteen years ago)

Not that we needed a lot of assistance, but I distinctly remember your little brother participating in if not directly advocating a lot of the wacky hijinks of that summer.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

That is correct. This would mark the only summer that Biz and my social lives had any real intersection, but he really sort of got into the spirit of every kind of drama we could produce.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

I WAS THERE. I AM SURROUNDED BY DOUBTING THOMASES.

Also, more info from gbx, plz, about drunken possibilities.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

John doubts my journal. NO, you were not. Honestly, I'd let you read the page but. Well. Abysmal handwriting. You know.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:52 (nineteen years ago)

LIES! Your journal is broken.

Actually, when I think of it, I might have been there on the night we changed it to "DOUBLE ORAL DELIGHT - ONLY $.69" instead.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

HI DERE!

My neck hurt enough that I stayed home and off the internets today but at least now I am capable of looking to the left. We went to dinner last night at Les Zygomates last night and, even though I couldn't look to the left, we had a lovely time.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

How dare you make me hungry.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:55 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, John: possibly a different night. ("ICE CREAM CONDOMS PCP," apparently my favorite message of the night you were not there. My journal is not broken. Very accurate, very snarky.)

Dan I am sorry that you had to stay home for neck reasons today. It sounds some better today... and glad your dinner was enjoyable at least.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 20:58 (nineteen years ago)

Read that as Les Zygotes.

No thank you. I will skip the caviar.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Tuesday, 22 August 2006 21:00 (nineteen years ago)

i just got back from Saji-ya w/my parents. Now am going to pack the car. Maybe, just MAYBE, I will be available tomorrow night, but right now I have to pretend I'm leaving tomorrow morning

:(((

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 01:15 (nineteen years ago)

Er, good luck with the pretending and/or staying and FAP-ing (one more night can't hurt, can it?).

How was Saji-Ya? I haven't been there in a zillion years. Good sushi, but every time I've been there the service has been really slow.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 02:02 (nineteen years ago)

I only had one piece of nigiri (my sis hates fish/sushi), but whatever I had (some beef dish) was fucking killer.

One more day wouldn't matter, you're right, except that I've got to find an apartment by the end of the month. EEK.

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 02:04 (nineteen years ago)

...and here I've been visualizing you living in a small cave...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 02:06 (nineteen years ago)

I have been. I'm just looking for a bigger one, with good insulation.

gbx (skowly), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 02:19 (nineteen years ago)

... and fewer dangerous predators?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, when I think of it, I might have been there on the night we changed it to "DOUBLE ORAL DELIGHT - ONLY $.69" instead.
That's what you told me.
Didn't it stay that way all summer?

The GZeus (The GZeus), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 05:52 (nineteen years ago)

Well, why not? That's a pretty low price.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:28 (nineteen years ago)

Gzeus, you should go impart some wisdom on the IMM jazzmaster thread.

Good morning, all.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 15:35 (nineteen years ago)

Ohayo gozaimasu. (Good morning.)

I hope you are all well and that John is drunk.

I posted in thread, John.
i'm still sick.

Thanks, GZeus. Please get better. Being sick sucks.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 03:20 (nineteen years ago)

Okay, old memory of John. We were driving someplace; I think I was going to drop him off after visiting Dan. Whatever, John got really interested in the garage door opener in my car. Apparently his family didn't have one. He spent quite a bit of time trying to get random garage doors out in the country to open with my garage door opener before he decided to try it on his own head. I was then informed, "you can get a really good headache from one of these..."

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 03:24 (nineteen years ago)

Hahahaha dood, what if your head had opened up???

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 August 2006 10:15 (nineteen years ago)

Why do you think I always had a sewing kit in my purse?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 11:56 (nineteen years ago)

This is why this thread makes me happy.

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 24 August 2006 12:20 (nineteen years ago)

Impromptu sutures?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 12:26 (nineteen years ago)

Hello there!

Topically, I have had neck and shoulder muscle issues for the past two weeks and here's what I've taken/done and I still HURT:

1. A mountain of tylenol-laced codiene
2. Thrice-daily applications of deep heat
3. Two shiatsu-type massages from friends skilled in the practice
4. One trip to Turkish baths for STEEEEEAM
5. Scalding hot bath with lavender oil each morning.

Only the Turkish bath seems to help at all.

Am in a cussy mood as not only did I not get the job, the company didn't even offer me freelancing. Schmucks to raise my hopes like that. Will not be in Mpls until Xmas.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Thursday, 24 August 2006 14:28 (nineteen years ago)

The Hastings thread is always concerned when it seems to have lost one of its own.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Also, I would consider the liberal application of a garage door opener to lingering aches and pains.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 14:32 (nineteen years ago)

You left-wing commie.

Yay Suzy is back! But sorry you didn't get the job. Evil bastards.

Hot bath with lavender oil sounds awesome. Mmmmm lavender...

John's unique medical cures will be the subject of his forthcoming book, Haircuts, Scotch, and Garage Door Openers: How They Changed My Life and How They Can Change YOURS.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:14 (nineteen years ago)

By the way, I think my NaNoWriMo project will be a slapstick revenge killing comedy. With scotch.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:20 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I'm not the long-haired hippie type on this thread, MISTER.

I'm the cavalier to your roundhead. Puritan.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:26 (nineteen years ago)

Is this the part where John invites Ned outside for a duel to defend his honor as a hedonist?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:37 (nineteen years ago)

I'm Puritan as the driven snow.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:44 (nineteen years ago)

What evidence would you take to count against that?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:49 (nineteen years ago)

Watch out where those huskies go...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:50 (nineteen years ago)

Mostly off-topic, but just a warning for those in the Twin Cities area about the storms. We had an incredible hail storm here about an hour ago with baseball-sized hail. Many of the cars in the Carleton parking lots that A. looked at had lost front and back windshields. We have some dents, so we're lucky. Just in case, it wouldn't hurt to get any cars into garages if you can.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:57 (nineteen years ago)

(I should add that, as I understand it, the stormy weather in our area is expected to continue today and possibly tonight as well.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 15:58 (nineteen years ago)

Hail damage could only improve the appearance of my car.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:00 (nineteen years ago)

I'm just saying that you might still want the windshields, John.

(Assuming here that you are not still driving the CHAMP. Am I remembering that car right? Not sure.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Yes you are. And no I'm not.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:03 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, so, this is as good a place as any to mention that I told my dad to invite subgenius, John, Sara and FB (+ good ol' KYL3 and my college roommate who had the brain surgery) to a clambake on Sep 2. So if he calls/emails you today/tomorrow, that's why. (Sara, I didn't have a number for you so I gave him yr email.)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:05 (nineteen years ago)

TRYING TO TAKE CLAMBAKE INVITATION IN A LITERAL SENSE. FAILING. DIRTY.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:06 (nineteen years ago)

Well John, how bad could your car be then?

Thanks Dan, I'm sure I can make that (because I left the entire weekend free so that I could easily ditch my family if necessary. Ha).

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:08 (nineteen years ago)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 16:26 (nineteen years ago)

For this, I am very sorry.

The other reason you hate Soul Asylum is the fact that they are not good.

Granted, but that album cover... *shiver*

WAY TO SCREW UP SEXY 60s/70s LADIES COVERED IN WHIP CREAM, INDIE DOUCHE

Um, has he noticed the results of that haven't been very successful?

Oh, he's noticed! He despises the neocons when it comes to their actual governing skills.

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 August 2006 20:46 (nineteen years ago)

Was Soul Asylum one of the reasons I didn't pay attention to music for years? Possibly.

Your Dad is light years ahead of my immediate family, so congratulations on having reality-based parents, Dan! (Actually, I wish J031 was coming, too. I'd like to meet her.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 20:50 (nineteen years ago)

This Judy Miller article I just read say's Jo31's certain to come to MN on Labor Day (based on unnamed sources in the D4l3 P3rry household and an interview with Ahmed Chalabi).

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Thursday, 24 August 2006 20:54 (nineteen years ago)

My Tarot card readings suggest that you are wrong, FB.

Plus, Mary Matalin told me that if I look into my crystal ball the right way, I, too can act insane on national television. I can even bring my husband!

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 20:57 (nineteen years ago)

Um. So I think I'm going to skip the Sonic Youth/Flaming Lips show at the state fair tonight. Because I don't want to DROWN.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:23 (nineteen years ago)

You could go and wear water wings...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:25 (nineteen years ago)

and clam dip? and nothing else?

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:26 (nineteen years ago)

Please let the record show that it is John, not me, who made the clam dip suggestion.

(Go to More 4 naked? Too late, too late.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:28 (nineteen years ago)

You all have to admit that me wearing nothing but clam dip is quite the mental image...positive or negative is up to you.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

NONE OF YOU WILL EVER SLEEP AGAIN.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:30 (nineteen years ago)

You say that as if any of us have ever slept before.

Plus the addition of the water wings is really important to that mental image. You don't want to be mistaken for the guy on the Soul Asylum album cover. (Admittedly, I have a hard time believing you'd do that with your hair and clam dip...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:35 (nineteen years ago)

clam dip + hair = ???

(xpost: HA)

Jesus Dan (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:38 (nineteen years ago)

I don't know, it just seemed like the right moment.

I am a coctail of presciption meds, cough medicine and 5 year old supposittories that I was once given to stop me from puking up my pills.
I'm HOPING they make me feel like a human, and not a walking disease farm that's on its way to the iron lung.

(Just trying to really destroy everyones evening.)

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

That sucks; better take some vitamin C (can't hurt and it will prevent scurvy!) and get some rest. If you have a prescription for something, hopefully the meds are helping.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

Sara, we really need to teach you the beauty of the xpost.

John Justen, All Dude Dual Groom Swordfight Revue (johnjusten), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:49 (nineteen years ago)

John, that will only work if you sing "The Jellicle Ball."

(Which is, of course, from Cats.)

(xpost. And John, BITE ME.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Thursday, 24 August 2006 21:50 (nineteen years ago)

John in particular, but EVERYONE needs one of these.
Does just about ANYTHING.
It runs Linux(a nerd-oriented OS for PC) and it....works.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Saturday, 26 August 2006 02:45 (nineteen years ago)

I KNOW WHAT LINUX IS, GEEZ.

...what games can I get for it?

gbx (skowly), Saturday, 26 August 2006 02:57 (nineteen years ago)

I looked into it further, and insofar as emus, it'll run just about anything 8 bit at full speed, Genesis pretty well, and snes slow as hell.

I think I might get a PSP and probably never get a disc for it.

It'll run doom, quake, et al, play movies, music...
Search the name and 10,000000000000000000000000 sites will come up and be totally difficult to navigate, but eventually tell you alot.

personally, I think The PSP does everything I need it to. Play CHrono Trigger AT ALL(slow is most likely, it really pushed that system to its limits), and allow me to play piles of other more chintsy roms for old Sega systems and snes.

I figured all this out in the past yhour when I was going to buya game Gear on ebay, then realised after buyin up some games I'd be halfway to one of those.
Then I remembered that SNES emulators for the PSP are more advanced that the GP2X.
The PSP will also play movies.

Overall, it's really a toss-up between the two system, it just depends on what you want it to do.

The GP2X is better at running older PC games and older system emus, and the PSP is more 'modern' console gaming oriented.

Condies makes it weird to type, so if I fuked up......fuck you.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Saturday, 26 August 2006 03:07 (nineteen years ago)

Codiene.

I'm so fucking out of it.
I think I might go to sleep.

I have no idea what system I want, but I want a portable system that can play SNES...

Um yeah. It's been a while.

Did I used to have nerves of steel or what?

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Saturday, 26 August 2006 23:13 (nineteen years ago)

I once said "I have brains of steel."

hey, john, remember when we saw the singer of XiuXiu perform acoustically live?
Antony(sic) and the Johnsons captures alot of that same vibe but more instruments and such.
XiuXiu on record is great on record, but that performance is embedded in by brain.
if you can find "The Cripple and the starfish" it's a great example

The GZeus (The GZeus), Saturday, 26 August 2006 23:24 (nineteen years ago)

The lead singer from XiuXiu is the dude who had a picture taken of himself fellating a horse, right?

I have no idea.

I'm thinking I might come home for Thanksgiving...I'm also thinking that might be a good time to book Sharks for their first Twin Cities joint.

Who/what/where/why/HOW

plz advise.

(...you can wait 'till later, though, cuz i'm gonna go and drink a hundred beers now ok!)

gbx (skowly), Sunday, 27 August 2006 02:16 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, not heard Sharks(yet)/what?/Triple Rock, Turf Club, or Big Vs/Triple Rock has great system and room, Turf Club has decent system and room(make john or I be the sound man, TC's sound man SUCKS), big Vs is an important club and has a good soundman. Turf Club shares booking with Big Vs. They booked SaILo, so they'll book a real band if they can/Triple Rock....check their myspace/site. Same for TC/Big Vs.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Sunday, 27 August 2006 03:27 (nineteen years ago)

What's YOUR favorite color?
Red is the most "I'm an evil bastard from a 1970s outlaw town" awesome.
Whereas the yellow is the most "Thrill Kill Kult" awesome.
Green is the most practical.

The sunburst one is oddly GOOD looking!
http://eastwoodguitars.com/GTRs/wandre-DLX/gtr-SunB-wandreDLX.htm

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 28 August 2006 00:25 (nineteen years ago)

Why is green more practical than transparent amber? The green looks hallucinogenic to me. (I'm thoroughly dull and like the transparent amber; bottom one I like black.)

That reminds me of M3liss4 and my pre-nursing-school acceptance crazy plan to start a band. This is more than crazy since I can't play a musical instrument or sing competently. So probably best that we had to shelve the idea...

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 00:35 (nineteen years ago)

Start a noise band.
All you NEED to know is Higher notes are higher up the neck and lower ones are...lower.
Well, thinking vertically, it's inverted...

Then you just move your right hand really fast and make vocal sounds(if you want) somewhat related to higher and lower notes being played.
Repeat until you can be kinda predictable and then name the repeatable sequences.

We didn't even beother with being repeateable on the first SaILo album.
The following live albums were basically means of extracting things we could use for the next 'studio' album, but we really just did more improv and played THOSE songs live.

We live live playing more.
THe nest few studio sessions should have more 'production'(read: equipment strewn about and used simultainiously) than anything we've done before.
GOOD mics and WORSE mics used as needed.
Hm... that reminds me. I want to make a footswitch that will switch out MICs.
Can that be done, John?
some kind of A/B. Want to switch between speaker mic and a D3. weird change in frequency response and pickup pattern for leads.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 28 August 2006 03:12 (nineteen years ago)

I'm kind of giggling thinking of what A's family would think of that (musicians, but very traditional; for example, their post-Thanksgiving dinner activity is always music, but it's like his parents don't recognize popular music...). Anyway, I had this fixation for a while that I wanted to learn to play the cello, but I realize now that would take too long and not be portable. Your suggestion is interesting. Remind me in 2009! (Or maybe that could be my new way of getting rid of stress? Hmmmm.)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 03:21 (nineteen years ago)

gbx (skowly), Monday, 28 August 2006 03:31 (nineteen years ago)

http://www.ibanez.co.jp/japan/news/product_news/rg2006/index.html

How about joining a Noise band?
www.myspace.com/satanistsinlove is looking for a drummer(needs to either be really bad or really good) in particular.
We'd be willing to supply 2/3 of a drum kit(maybe).

A key player(same criteria, but we have keys. Knowing how to work an '80s synth is a plus, or you could just push buttons until it sounds cool).
And finally a bass player(who would need to be weird and good. I change keys with and without the singer and we need someone who can choose who to follow).

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 28 August 2006 03:38 (nineteen years ago)

We really need people more for live purposes than anything.

Also a random word would help.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Monday, 28 August 2006 03:51 (nineteen years ago)

random word from randomly chosen book on shelf: demolish

You are funny.

A typical clam bake begins with a few trips to the shore line to gather fresh seaweed, an important tool in cooking the food.

So I've spent the past half hour watching J. have the mother of all tempter tantrums. Cooking with seaweed sounds like a good idea right now. Even if Elvis is there.

How did it get to be Monday again? And how can we stop it in the future?

Not until next week for us. REALLY can't wait. Was actually tempted by email trying to persuade me to join nursing ROTC program. (I guess the military doesn't remember that I told them I was a 3 foot tall lesbian back when I was in high school...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:02 (nineteen years ago)

A good 75% of the people I know who were approached by the military used the "I'm gay!" line and, to my knowledge, only two of them actually were.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:15 (nineteen years ago)

My parents did not think that was funny, btw.

(I like how you don't deny that I am 3 feet tall...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:24 (nineteen years ago)

Oh Sara, everyone knows you're 3'9".

My parents would not have thought that was funny, at least not while I was in the room. They might have giggled about it behind my back, though.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Dan, why are you so cruel?

(Actually, one of the major reasons I continue to drive to Red Wing to go to the doctor is that they measure me a bit taller there than I really am... however, I can't seem to get the nurses to remove 5 pounds from my weight, regardless of what I use as a bribe...)

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 14:30 (nineteen years ago)

Sara's actual height is:

a. 3'9"
b. 5'0"
c. 5'2 3/4"
d. 5'3"
e. 5'7"

And just for fun, another trivia question:

During high school, Sara's standard breakfast was:

a. chocolate Slim-Fast shake
b. Oreos
c. toast
d. bowl of Lucky Charms followed by a Mountain Dew
e. refused to eat before 3rd hour

I've got this feeling to be free
I pick and choose the life I want
And that's the life for me
clambake, gonna have a clambake

Fluffy Bear (Fluffy Bear Hearts Rainbows), Monday, 28 August 2006 19:07 (nineteen years ago)

GZeus, we've met exactly one time and you got both answers correct. How is that even possible?
Well, the height one was simple. The answer was too specific. People under 5' 9" will often measure their height to the 1/8" level to get as much as possible and are EXCEEDINGLY accurate, while people over 5' 10" round to the nearest inch, and are often up to 3/4" off in either direction. I'm a little over 5' 11" and I only know that because I saw when I went to the doc.
The Breakfast one was also simple. You were in high school and it was the only one that included mountain dew.
In including the beverage of choice for upwards of 50% of the breakfast-eating populace between 16 and 19 you set that one as in the top two for this multiple choice set.
Lucky Charms are the only thing that a mountain dew will taste good after. This meal set being so plausible by itself combined with the time the question is set in and the happy-go-lucky but still aware of the joys of cynicissm attitude you readily exude led me to this answer.

I Own All Multiple Choice Tests.
Scored a 24 on my ACTs without looking at the math section. I had to piss SOOO BAAAAD.

I also HAVE to analize everyone I meet and plan on actually communicating with as opposed to just conversing with. My autism forces me to learn ways of communicating with each person individually based upon a set of guidlines kind of grouped in weird molecule-shaped sets in my head.(visual thinker)
I've met alot of people in my time and have an extensive library in the 'kinds of people I like to talk to' section.
if I don't like to talk to someone I either dislike it because they're a kind of person I'll never understand, or I'll never understand them becaus they're not the kind of person I like period.

You fit into box 'A' so I was able to glean together enough mannerisms , phraseologies and tone-of-voice patterns into a workable personality profile.
I simply had to reference a few stories for the past posted here, cross-reference ith my past and similar traits of friends and also with how I've seen John's personailty change over the past 4-5 years.
I combined the data from here and my past, used john's net-personality of here, (which based upon the fact he knows people here from high school is likely influenced by that) took hwat I know of him, extrapolated the changes back and pictured who that person would hang with.

The process of figuring the answers for both questions took something like 20 seconds.

I've somewhat over-expounded upon the thought proces involved, it's not so systematic and more piecemeal, but I prefer more data than needed to too little.

Also I like ot make myself look smart.

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Monday, 28 August 2006 19:24 (nineteen years ago)

I have to say that that made me laugh, for more reasons than I can number. But here's one: I have spent many moments of my life repeating two of John's high school aphorisms to myself at appropriate moments, of course including the x number of years between then and now where we had lost touch. These would be, "Cynicism keeps you breathing" (vitally important to remember at election time, at least for me) and "Stupid people shouldn't breathe" (vitally important at (almost all moments).

Still, can you answer this one?

Robinson family pet/s (mid80s to 90s)

a. no pet
b. three cats named Sophocles, Maribel, and Genoa
c. dog named Gus
d. goldfish named Oliver
e. dog named Spike and parakeet named Penny

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Monday, 28 August 2006 23:22 (nineteen years ago)

TO be honest, having divulged my decoding method, I'm now unsure as to how you've chosen the answers.
It's tied 3 ways between the 3 cats, as it's stands out, and the dog and bird.
People with an appreciation for irony often name their pets odd or generic things.
John has a cat named Quimby, I had a dog named Skippy.

insofar as the autism thing, that's more of the sort of thing that needs real-time discussion.
My voice can go at any moment now, so phone is kind of out of the question.
messenger via 'mail that's hot' for me is saint of mingis with no spaces.
Windows live messenger for best compatability.

In the mean time, where does he fit on the spectrum, and what symptoms are most prevalent?
17 years to diagnosis for me, so I've had to, well, extrapolate back for all the things that have affected me in the past and so may do so in the future and find workarounds.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 00:33 (nineteen years ago)

Actually, I'm not sure even the guys I knew best can answer the pet question - (John or Jeff seem the most likely to be able to). So I'll just let it hang there and see if anyone knows the answer.

GZeus, no need to chat about the autism thing right at this hot second; we've had the diagnosis (Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified - gotta love the NOS, which seems to mean "CATCHALL!") since he was in kindergarten and he's only 8 now. Hopefully we can talk in person sometime. (Okay, I also admit that I still don't have an IM program, although Austin bugged me about that just today. We have only MACs at our place, though...)

Briefly, 4l3x doesn't take verbal direction well (visual learner), echolalia (repeating or chanting meaningless syllables), serious sensitivity to taste and touch, mild stim behaviors (blinking rapidly, rocking a bit, very occasional flapping of arms), sometimes he decides he MUST crash into the walls or couches (for all I know that is a boy thing, sometimes it is hard to pull out what is just exuberance)... okay I could go on, but this is too long already! Let's talk sometime about it in person if you don't mind.

Sara R-C (Sara R-C), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 00:54 (nineteen years ago)

That sounds like an exaggeration of many issues I have.
He's probably testing the effects of crashing.
Learning how his body reacts and/or how his environment reacts to him.

Often times in explaining instructions to an autistic child they must be told WHY the instruction should be followed and WHY they should find the outcome of following it beneficial to them AND the outcome of NOT following it a negative factor.

Insofar as the sylables, that's a method of developing an understanding of how the mouth and sound interact. At least it is for me.
To this day Weeze(www.myspace.com/sirweezejunk) and I will spend long periods of time exploring ways of making intersting sounds with our mouths.
"Slimblists, force limbs of horse fleds, whips fists press breasts, hard briss frees steves"
And it's more about making the mouth move in interesting ways. The odd imagery just makes it funny.
The reason I can speak languages with reasonably accurate accents is largely due to the fact that i used to make annoying reletetive noises onto tape cassettes and just in general.
It could also be something akin to a mantra. assigning a personal meaning to sounds, often related to a situation familiar to oneself, and forming a sort of solo version of twin-speak.
The mantra has the effect of solidifying that idea or image in the speakers mind(like any mantra).

I'd need to talk with him personally to say anything with any level of accuracy.

The GZeus (The GZeus), Tuesday, 29 August 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

Well, it's tricky because it is pretty mild and inconsistent. We didn't have any sense that anything was different about him until he was in preschool. (No real basis for comparison with other kids, plus mild symptoms...)

Part of what I'm wondering about is how (and when) to explain it to him; he has received special ed stuff since kindergarten, but the PDD-NOS has never been specifically addressed. Ugh, probably should have done it before this...

Interesting about the noises/syllables...

Well, let's talk more in person sometime (I'll be in the Cities quite a bit in the near future).
