Her mother's name was given in the paper as Doreen Colton, so all one needs to do is look up a "Lea Colton" (Assumedly Lea's maiden name) in the year she was supposedly born in.... there is a "Lisa Michelle Colton" born in September 1970, in the Northampton area, with the mother's maiden name given as "Whyler". In order to prove this is Lea, you would have to search through the marriage records to see if anyone called Doreen Whyler married a Colton, and there is.... in the Northampton area.
Furthermore the very same "Lisa Colton" married a Mr. Walker in 1995 (NB. Lea's surname is Walker) and her son was born the same year, making him the same age as Lea's son. Face it, it's her. Lea really is 35. Its hard to believe it but she is.

*) Aisleyne gets 'evicted', she leaves, Lea get's all "hray I'm glad she's gone" whereas half the others are more sad.
next week
*) Aisleyne and the 5 new housemates come in, to Richard jumping up and down, and Lea with a right cob on.

The current situation will be on a par with the dreariness of Cameron going to Africa (BB3? 4?). I expect the BB bosses are gutted too - this is one of those situations where they really should have fixed it so someone with a bit of watchability got nommed.
Remember the dizzy heights of Emma and 'no naked jacuzzi' lady in the bedsit? A Nikki or a Glyn being evicted then not evicted then RETURNING TO AVENGE could so easily have been up there. I'm genuinely annoyed about this.
― Affectian (Affectian), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 13:14 (nineteen years ago)
People who don't like her: Richard, Lea, Nikki. These people will be pleased to see her go, so will be so *pleased*.
I'm assuming there won't be any 'screen' in there, but never mind.
Suzie would act more like a concierge to the new people. And so will be very dull indeed. And will probably not meet any of the new housemates. For she willbe out next week oh yeah. Unless she's up against Richard.
― mark grout (mark grout), Wednesday, 28 June 2006 13:20 (nineteen years ago)
A dizzy low, more like.
A Nikki or a Glyn being evicted then not evicted then RETURNING TO AVENGE could so easily have been up there.
If anyone is gong to be in a RETURNING TO AVENGE mood, it'll be Aisleyene.

(from http://www.entertainmentwise.com/news?id=18424)
Former Big Brother contestant Sam has been dropping hints that she may be going back inside the Big Brother house.
Speaking during an interview with New! Magazine Sam said: “I may have been evicted but you haven’t seen the last of me on this year’s Big Brother.
“I can’t say too much- but the others won’t know what’s hit them.”
What does this mean, will Sam end up spying on the other housemates like Michelle and Emma did a couple of series back? Or is she just deluding herself?
We will have to wait and see…

A few tabloids have front page "scandals" about Lea & Pete today - I think it was the Star claims Lea's an alkie on a bottle of vodka a day, and they claim to reveal her real age. Is she on the wagon on the show? I haven't actually read the stories just saw the headlines when I was buying my lunch.

They did this "sabotage the task secretly" thing before - was it something Makosi had to do? It was better then anyway, it must have been so obvious Imogen was cocking it up on purpose.
Nikki's refusal to do tasks should make everyone hate her (she was at it the last time I watched too, I'm assuming it's her thing). Why don't they?

Watched some of the live feed last night. General rowdiness / karaoke involving Aisleyne and Imogen on the mikes, and looking pretty darn good. Pete, Lea, Richard backing vocals. What were they singing? Any Good? Who knows, they cut the sound.
Thesedays, if a housemate sings a song for longer than twenty seconds or so, it seems to be excised for copyright reasons.
Oh, and later on they waxed Mikey's nipples.

The song choices are:
Dancing Queen - Abba Sweet Dreams - Eurythmics I Got You Babe - Sonny and Cher Delilah - Tom Jones Livin' La Vida Loca - Ricky Martin
― mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 30 June 2006 10:17 (nineteen years ago)
Susie and Imogen were up first with Dancing Queen. Imogen gave it her usual shimmy and the song obviously touched a chord with Susie, who belted out the words without having to read them off the screen. The pair nailed the prerequisite Abba move of singing to each other. But who was the blonde one? After a quick vol-au-vent break, next up were Mikey and Aisleyne. As the scouser bounced around, Aisleyne hit the high notes, well tried to, before breaking into her own freestyle rhymes.
But what was eating Nikki, who looked like she was about to burst into tears? Surely their singing wasn't that bad.
But Ais wasn't finished, grabbing the mic she bust out her inner beat box in the quiet bit.
Richard and Lea then teamed up for a note-imperfect chorus of I Got You Babe. And as the last note was strangled, Nikki blubbed, rushing to give them a big hug.
Pete and Nikki then teamed up for Livin' La Vida Loca. With moves to make Ricky Martin wince, they tapped into their Latin, um, bits.
Last came Glyn with his pelvis-packed version of Welshman Tom Jones's Delilah. It was eerie. Like big Tom himself had walked into the room. It was knicker-throwing mayhem. Except it wasn't. We were just being polite. Sorry.
With no more songs to go round, the housemates returned to their finger buffet and daydreamed pop star dreams.
Hmm, apart from I did see Ais and Imo singing together, but I guess they are off the music...

Big Brother never makes things easy, so the evicted housemate will be facing some tough decisions in the coming weeks. Either Aisleyne or Susie will be forced to evict one of their new housemates, face to face.
But, what neither the evicted housemate or the five new housemates realise is that whoever is chosen for eviction won't be sent back out in to the outside world. Oh no, they will leave the secret house and go straight in to the main Big Brother house where there will become a full-time housemate. Sneaky or what!
Ultimately, Aisleyne or Susie actually return to the main House, they will have to then live with the people they decided to bin.
The Secret House has it's own living room, kitchen, shower room, bedroom and garden. The bedroom has four single beds and one double bed, which means there is just enough room for all six housemates - cosy.
The Diary Room is the only connecting room between the two Houses so the new housemates will secretly share that sexy gold chair with the original housemates.

For the benefit of anyone who has understandably become bored of BB and stopped watching - Aisleyne now has sole control of who is evicted from the new house. She has to nominate four housemates to be evicted, one by one, but has to keep this secret.
The twist = Aisleyne doesn't know that the people she evicts will move into the old house. When she goes back in, the chickens come home to roost. And mercifully, none of the housemates is a model with a boob job.
This is fantastic. I suddenly care about Big Brother again.

The new housemates now seem to think that BB is going to change the set-up as they have guessed what's going on. Basically they heard the very loud woman being very loud. Not unsurprisingly.
― Ned T.Rifle (nedtrifle), Monday, 3 July 2006 12:12 (nineteen years ago)
Jonathan however, had other ideas. "I would put them in the army," he announced. "If they were physically fit enough, it's a great idea. Cos it teaches you discipline and a lot about yourself. It would reduce the level of homelessness on the street, you're employed for your country, and you are giving them the opportunity to better yourself, get qualifications."
"Who's to say they wouldn't enjoy it?" he added. Finding his argument the more compelling, Aisleyne expanded on it: "I think that's what they should do with young boys who have nothing to do but go to crime."

I had wondered how long it took after Jayne went for Aisleyne to work it out.
In fact, Ais said to Jayne "You'll be going next door" before she went.
Everything after that just confirmed her suspicions.

But that's what happens in today's mini task, as housemates in the main House will be asked to invent imaginary friends.
Each of the gang will be told to imagine their new companion, then present them on a blackboard to Big Brother.
Housemates will be called with their imaginary friends to the Diary Room and will be required to talk with their new best buds to BB. Or maybe that will be an imaginary Big Brother who'll do the talking.
Housemates will then be supplied with an imaginary tea party in the garden, where they must sit next to their imaginary friends.
With the way this lots minds work, we don't imagine they'll have any problems with this task at all.

Once again I missed it last night, bar a few minutes of Aisleyne in the diary room fretting about what to do about evicting. Not sure what she's playing at really. Isn't it obvious to her that the public can see she knows what's going to happen to the ones she evicts and therefore won't hold it against her for evicting people she likes as they aren't actually being chucked out?

Ash has the hots for Spiral, in fact I'd go so far as to say that she thinks he's off the shizzle. if she can choose who goes into the big Big Brother house, it'll be him.
God, it just goes on and on this series. Why don't they just do BB constantly, all year round, so when someone is evicted, a new housemate goes in? Pete will be locked up in there for years, decades.
Lea is nasty.

the main house still doesn't know aisleyne's coming back and her main nemesis (lea) is up for eviction
jayne & michael don't like aisleyne and will have made friends in the house by tonight
plus, saw davina on bblb, earlier, and she said that when the house next door heard "jayne" it was actually lea so it is all guesses and not, like, a big fuck up but yeah how hard would it have been to separate/insulate the houses from each other better

Who has she been mean to? Lea, who desperately needed to be called out on victim mentality? Nikki and her tedious "we were just... experimenting" I-am-so-interesting reminiscences? As for "talks tought", is this another reference to her lack of the Queen's English?
to me it adds up to pandering.
I think a good rule of thumb when watching this show, every year, is to assume that after the first couple of weeks of living on rice and with lunatics, every one in there has lost any ability to have a "gameplan", or try to play the audience, etc.

it's her decision to use language in the way she does and in a way that she knows will -- not mystify, but seem more 'real' to the viewing public and her fellow housemates. it's actually nikki who called her on that. all the 'you'd best know yourself' stuff is ok from london schoolgirls but kind of rings false from a self-described hampstead girl in her late twenties. i think that's why she 'called out' nikki, though actually i can't remember what this calling out consisted of. iirc it invovled aisleyne doing big mock-yawns. like yeah, merked, nikki.

cross-post: Even before we get onto the idea of it being "okay" or not for anyone to talk in any way, do you honestly think that the way Aisleyne talks is not the way she talks outside the house, and instead a conscious choice designed to further her cunning schemez?

― mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:05 (nineteen years ago)
― Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:06 (nineteen years ago)
I understand you're trying to argue that Aisleyne is disliked because she's working class or over-fond of saying "off the shizzle" but that's not the case: she's disliked (by me at any rate) because she does dislikeable things.
― Toad Roundgrin (noodle vague), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:08 (nineteen years ago)
For example?
― Flyboy (Flyboy), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)
it's more complex than that, isn't it? it's absolutely okay for people to talk that way; but all the same, ainsleyne like most people has a choice of different lingusitic repertoires she can choose from depending on her audience(s). no linguistic repertoire is entirely 'natural'.
and the one she's choosing may well be the one she uses on the outside (not betting on it, actually), but that's not the point. (god knows if nikki is quite so extreme outside.)
the point is she chose a rude gal persona, even if it is how she usually speaks, and it comes over as arrogant and shitty cos she uses it to sound tough, ie intimidate people.
no-one has explained what 'off the shizzle' means.
so last night i wasn't sharing her pain any more than if it were lea bawling away.
― Roughage Crew (Enrique), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:10 (nineteen years ago)
Well I could just repeat what Enrique's said the last couple of posts but you seem to be ignoring him too so this isn't really a debate to be won. And in the interests of full disclosure I'll admit that some of those dislikeable things involve craving minor celebrity/notoriety. It's an ambition I don't understand at all. But that's my problem.
― Toad Roundgrin (noodle vague), Thursday, 6 July 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)

Having said that, if her language/diction isn't the reason you dislike her, I don't know why you'd refer to Enrique's posts, since it's clearly the reason he dislikes her: the point is she chose a rude gal persona, even if it is how she usually speaks. She could choose to speak properly, couldn't she? She's just doing it to try to seem cool! Young people these days, with the hipping and the hopping, they don't. Know what the. Jazz. Is.
and it comes over as arrogant and shitty cos she uses it to sound tough, ie intimidate people.
Again, any examples of this would be great. As you've already basically said, her fight with Nikki did not actually consist of her being intimidating: she just yawned heavily and muttered "boring" while Nikki was telling a story about a not-threesome very slowwwly and deliberately, which is fair enough. The "know yourself" remark came only after Nikki had stormed off and called her a bitch as a result.

no, actually i dislike her for her hauteur. she thinks she's it.
She could choose to speak properly, couldn't she? She's just doing it to try to seem cool! Young people these days, with the hipping and the hopping, they don't. Know what the. Jazz. Is.
well, 'properly' is your word isn't it? i don't think i've put it in those terms. she could go in for less of the 'off the shizzle' bullshit though, yeah. in the same way suzie couldn't stop with the ridiculous posh-isms.

That said, I've only seen this once in the last two weeks, and she was asleep all the way through. In fact, I'm basing this solely on her reactions when Sam and Grace got evicted. She seemed the only person to give a toss at Sam going (and I didn't think this was false) or to stand up to Grace about her behaviour. I don't imagine I'd be able to live with Nicki or Lea without having a go at them at some point.
She can't last long when she comes back to the house, though, can she? (has this already happened?) one house full of people she voted out, and one house full of people who voted her out. And I hope they bring back Jonathan. He seemed allright.
So - what happened in the end? She had to vote someone out, knowing she was voting them out? I thought she was under the impression that the people she voted out were being evicted?

it's hard to figure out what she thought she was doing, because she seemed to figure out that the people she was 'evicting' were in fact going into the main house. but having deduced this she, for reasons of her own, 'evicted' two people she wasn't so close to, instead of jonathan (who seems a bit dull tbh) and the awful spiral, who she likes.
so in the end she had the terrible life decision to make of sho to keep in.

I v much hope the housemates make it a Nikki vs Aislene battle next week with the latter to go by a landslide - she's bored my eyes for too much too long. Amazing how much she's fallen from grace, from the time when she was riling Grace when she seemed on the side of GOOD, whereas now she seems self-obsessed and brattish (and not in the 'aw bless' way that Nikki is).
Spiral reminds me of the creepy paedophile in Family Guy. And scallies in small NW towns circa 2001. And East 17. ie. He's VILE.

I honestly can't remember a housemate more vile and disgusting as Jayne. Her talking about manners whilst talking with her mouth full (especially after that preposterous interpretation of Aisleyne's unwarranted rudeness) was both classic and stomach churning. Will someone just shoot her in the head, already?

Nikki has confessed that she is banned from all of her local cab companies.
The wannabe footballer's wife admitted that not only is she an unreliable customer, she also regularly clashes with taxi drivers over the temperature in the car.
Recalling one incident, she told the others, "I woke up and it was boiling! He turned the heating off and got lost. I always sit at the front so I can keep an eye on the heating situation."
Nikki then explained that she got involved in an argument with the taxi driver in question, who shouted, "I've sweated all the way from London with the heating on!"
She added, "I'm barred from all my local cab companies. They won't come and pick me up. I order them to pick me up from London and I go and get into a cheaper cab. They've come all the way to London to pick me up."

And what's his relationship with Mikey and Pete? I recall Mikey saying "Why hasn't this new feller come over and said hi?" after Aislene and Spiral came in, and Spiral ignored everyone and ran after Aislene to hold her hand while she was bawling away over FUCK ALL. Most decent folk would have gone over and greeted his new housemates and ignored Aislene's attention-seeking but instead this prick delivered an almighty snub to them all. Hopefully it'll be him and Aislene up for eviction this week. But probably not. It'll certainly be Jane but I'm not sure who else.

in bed, the other night: l-r: glyn, jennie, aisleyne, spiral
spiral: "glyn, have you told jennie a secret yet? I'm going to tell aisleyne a secret"
leans over, like he's going to whisper in her ear, then tries to kiss her. she laughs and moves her head away. glyn and jennie look on. spiral does it again, "gonna tell you a secret" tries to kiss her, she laughs and moves her head away. and again
what w/ this and spiral being in bed w/ glyn and lea and asking if he could feel lea's boobs and her letting him and glyn saying "O! can I have a go??", I fear for his disgusting influence

But aaaanyway, I caught a bit of the live feed very late last night and it seems Spiral really lost his rag during a game of spin-the-bottle. he was telling Mikey it's over between him and Ais as she spurned his advances "twice! On live TV!", and Nikki gave him a look that was "disrespectful". I thought he might be pissed like everyone else, but then remembered he doesn't drink, so he must be just unhinged generally.
Glyn looked extraordinary covered in whatever that black stuff was.

Strange lack of comments over Glyn/Gertrude. I saw that and thought everyone would be in raptures over his ZANY WACKED OUT behaviour.
Richard and Jayne are coming out of this Nikki/Aisleyene thing worst, aren't they? They're either being very conniving, or being edited to look very conniving. I'm sure the whole fish/chicken for dinner thing wasn't a mistake on his part.
― hobart paving (hobart paving), Monday, 10 July 2006 08:11 (nineteen years ago)
Now it was Aisleyne who lost her temper, snapping: "Rejected? Yeah that's why you're in the House, because I rejected you." Then she stormed off, kissing her teeth as she went.
She left the rapper muttering to himself: "You're just a little Mickey teaser, that's all you are. You're on this earth for attention, playing games with people's heads and making a d*** out of them on TV. You're a walking tease."
This one-man conversation continued for several minutes. He rambled at full volume, even though there wasn't a soul there to hear him.
Uh oh.

Web Exclusive: Mass Nomination Shocker Monday 10 JulyDay 53, 16:03The housemates have been dealt the harshest punishment for Jayne's persistent rule-breaking.
Every single one of them will be up for eviction this Friday... all except her.
Big Brother stunned the House when Jayne was called to the Diary Room and given a severe telling off live on the plasma screen. Big Brother cited her "talking about the outside world on numerous occasions" and told the 37-year-old: "You have let yourself down, you've let Big Brother down but most importantly you've let your fellow housemates down."
Story continues below
Only then did the House learn the significance of that final sentence as it was revealed this week's nominations had been cancelled and every housemate bar Jayne would face the public vote.
Nikki greeted Jayne at the Diary Room with a hug, but what do the other housemates think?

I don't want Spoiral to go - there's a lot of entertainment still to be had from him. The house needs a really menko bloke in there to balance things out. Surely Susie will go purely through a) being fucking boring and b) still being the target of anger over all that wasted Kit Kat money.

Him shouting at Nikki got me very angry (I like how this thread has basically turned into Nikki luvvers VS Aislene luvvers) and yet again Mikey proved his lack of balls by being sat right next to Nikki and still letting Spiral scream venom at her - then going having a quiet chat with the guy afterwards making him think his actions are all ok! The one person who would have possibly stopped him being such aggressive slime is Jonathan - if only he'd gone in instead of the appalling Michael..

I should add Sezer but without the looks and - I hate to say it - the charm. Though it wasn't really charm, more relentless smirking smarm. Still, only slightly better than Spiral - his dancing to Candyshop was utterly ridiculous and horrifying, all at the same time. The look of a guy so 100% certain that this girl would 'suck his lollipop' only to be shot down in flames minutes later. Superb.

Reasons I like watching Nikki:- I've never seen anyone quite like her before, she's fascinating in so many ways (the way she over-pronounces words, the little-girl-who-never-grew-up)- She's in the TV, ie. not here in my face making my brain explode. I pity the housemates for having to put up with her and it's great being able to switch off when she gets too much.- She's baby. She serves as the baby of the house and it's interesting seeing how people treat her. Same as Jade a few years back, she's a horror but one with an important role in the house. One of the reasons I don't hate Richard as much as most on this board is because he treats her like a little kid, and hey, I like that. - She's a spoilt brat and it's just plain funny seeing her wind people up. Swaggering 'street' girl Aislene really can't cope with it and I love that. - She's not malicious. She never does anything intentionally nasty, it's just pure self-obsession and yes that's bad but it's more forgiveable than the out-and-out spite of Grace.
and I dunno, help me out here? Jed? Anyone?
― Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 11 July 2006 10:52 (nineteen years ago)
i dunno, i'm starting to worry about my state of mind though because i was thinking i'll genuinely miss her when she leaves the house. more cause for concern is the fact that i scour youtube for clips of her, some of which i must have watched 10 times in a row.
lets turn the question round though: why would anyone want to watch any of the rest of them? even pete is only interesting now when he's gravitating towards nikki.

And if sex-attacker Spiral doesn't go on Friday - and really, how can the public not want this cunt out?! - then it has to be Aislene. Both Jennie and Nikki have said how she intimidates them, which I can imagine all too well. Swaggering about, casting snide looks, rolling her eyes at people - and she doesn't add anything back! Both Nikki and Jennie bring the cutesy laffs but Aislene does fuck all except a) cry, and b) complain about how awful it is that she's the centre of attention. Was it Nikki who said that Aislene has somehow become a major player in the house (due to being be the lesser-of-two-bores put into the 2nd house) and doesn't deserve it? She's right.
But back to the main point, the lack of Spiral footage worries me. The more they show of him the more public hatred he'll inspire, so why aren't we getting this?
― Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 13 July 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)
Last night for example - Pete & Aisleyne are in bed chatting, Nikki throws a strop and bitches on with Jayne about how they're talking about her, which is all a load of bollocks. Where are the cutesy laffs? All I see is a stupid paranoid spoilt little brat!
Luckily according to the poll the public agrees with me.
― Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 13 July 2006 12:02 (nineteen years ago)
"Imagine" being the key word here, I think. Jennie's relationship with Aisleyne clearly revolves around Jennie needing her affirmation, which is understandable given the way she entered the house. Nikki is Nikki. My sympathy is entirely with Aisleyne having to be the focal point of a whirling vortex of suspicion, resentment, jealousy and neediness - she's almost replaced Pete in that position.

tonight's show, after telling aisleyne she had been "slagging" her off but "thought the world" of her and, immediately after, telling her it was okay and not to worry about it (???), aisleyne was crying and jayne was annoyed by it and aisleyne was going into the diary room and jayne said "do you want me to come in w/ you?" and aisleyne said "no, I'll just go by myself" and jayne said "yeah, but do you want me to go w/ you?" (?????) she said she wanted to be honest and set things straight and that she wasn't a "bullshitter". a pause. "... like you", to aisleyne. aisleyne and michael, who was waiting outside the diary room w/ her, just froze, their mouths open. when they asked jayne about what she'd said, jayne didn't even bother making something up that the "... like you" could have been about but just totally denied saying it and used the common moron tactic of "yeah, I said it, then, whatever you say". INSANE INSANE INSANE GET HER OUT
pete getting upset about the insects before always seemed a bit played up, even if it didn't seem put on, but, in the diary room, there, he seemed really genuinely upset when, asked if he thought anyone in the house understood why it upset him, he kind of realised he was all alone and that no-one did understand and I felt upset, too

I'm coming to the conclusion that Jayne, having watched Grace in house, is deliberately going for notoriety. She knows she's not going to win. She knows the Nuts and Zoo career isn't going to happen. She knows she's not going to get a presenting job. So she's going all out for the quick tabloid Big Bitch sell. Either that or she's just fucking stupid.

honestly, i think they're all going mad.
re: aisleyne. her astonishing thickness ("what's a monarch?") suggests she squandered the basic educational opportunities that were offered to her because she was too busy being cool and street and hard. either that or she's so caught up in the image she's trying to project that she thinks she has to act stupid, which is even worse (although i don't think it's the case). either way, she is a complete and utter tool, and my sympathy for her is non-existent.
luckily for her, jayne, spiral, mikey and probably nikki are way, way bigger tools, for a variety of reasons. i'd far rather see any of them go before her.

jayne is a *mentalist.

I don't dislike her anywhere near as much as Jayne or Grace but she is drrreadful. Today I am disliking her mostly because of her chinless 'hyukhyukhyukhyuk hyuk hyuuuuuk' gormless laugh, laced with a hint of sneering superiority.

In the spirit of fairness, if she had told Aisl about what sshe had actually said to Kikki, she'd be talking about how Aisl came across to the viewing public and effectively talking about the outside world again.
Also, she's screwed up life in the house, twice over, and no-one has taken a stick to her. Therefore, she feels that she is liked in the house, and she may well be right.

a) WTF is this "patois" thing? all i hear is, umm, a girl from london. it's not how she says things that bothers me; it's what she says. and the crying. and the "i'm not a weak person" protestations, which really did make me see her as the school bully brought down a peg or two. and ... oh, see my comments passim.
b) the rest of them are mostly very thick - imogen, mikey and others have come out with some pearlers of idiocy. but the clip of aisleyne on "big brain" or whatever it was, being asked a succession of simple general-knowledge questions and getting them all wrong, does suggest she's not the sharpest of the assembled tools.

― Flyboy (Flyboy), Friday, 14 July 2006 09:01 (nineteen years ago)
so why didn't she just say: "i was talking to nikki and i said something about how people were coming across on the show?" instead she barrelled in going: "i was slagging you off, aisleyne!" as if that was the reason everyone was getting punished.
but then the way aisleyne began crying etc seemed oddly unreal and forced ... ach, i'm probably being hugely unfair on her, but that's how it seemed to me. perhaps it's because, after all those ridiculous and unnecessary histrionics in the second house, i can't take her emotional outbursts seriously at all.
― grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 14 July 2006 09:02 (nineteen years ago)
contrast that with nikki's ugly circus of passive-aggressive co-dependence, trying to make pete guilty for her feeling threatened by the other women in the house and wailing later that pete is 'hers', because 'i saw him first and we bonded' (which is word for wodrd what lea used to say)... well, i actually find someone like that easy to 'hate' (if you can hate someone who is on the telly box)
― i am not a nugget (stevie), Friday, 14 July 2006 09:04 (nineteen years ago)
i don't think it was... jayne's been fucking with her head for days, asked her abt her and pete in front of pete and everyone that morning - and then the housemates are gathered in the lounge, jayne is spirited away to be punished by big brother, and the first thing she says on her return is "i've been talkinmg about the outside world, i was slagging off aisleyne" - and this was the very first thing she said when she got back from the diary room. it seems like a pretty obvious headfuck to me...

― i am not a nugget (stevie), Friday, 14 July 2006 09:11 (nineteen years ago)
nikki is crazy and probably shouldn't be in there. she has some kind of weird egocentric disorder going on and seems unable to accept that the world around her doesn't necessarily involve her. this is why i wish i'd studied psychology; i'm fascinated by the way people react within these groups, and i wish we were being told a little more about it (as opposed to having platitudinous nonsense spouted at us on "big brain" once a week. OMG the housemates are "stressed"! well, NO SHIT.)
i digress. something about aisleyne's behaviour makes me agree with ian, suzy et al (her "queen bee" comment upthread sums it up for me) BUT i'll admit that a lot of her behaviour (trying to make it up with nikki etc) goes against that. i wish i'd paid more attention to her behaviour in the second house so i could actually make a more informed observation here, but ... i dunno. she seems to veer wildly between strutting about like she owns the place and playing the victim, and that suggests either a) she's quite duplicitous, or b) she's really not got the emotional intelligence to deal with anything other than the simplest of group dynamics (eg "aisleyne, you're the boss").
as for the "slang" and "accent" ... i dunno, it all sounds pure 21st-century london to me. that's one of the things i love about young london english (for want of a better phrase): it's informed by so many thousands of other cultures that by the time the rest of us have caught up with it it's morphed into something else entirely. you get me?

But the mindgames to the younger/baby members of the house is a-ok?
the 'patois' thing ... is being cited above as one of the ways in which she is 'intimidating' people, or as a reason why she is so hated.
Nuh uh, it's cited as a reason why she makes my toes curl - this woman in the late-20s talking like some kid hanging out with her mates at the bus stop, "I'm too ghetto for this house innit, hyuhyuhyuhyuhyu hyuuk". The bullying and victim-tears are the reasons to dislike her.
Oh and 'she reminds me of me mates innit' doesn't really get to the essence of this innate goodness that I'm failing to see in her. Try again.

she seems to veer wildly between strutting about like she owns the place and playing the victim, and that suggests either a) she's quite duplicitous, or b) she's really not got the emotional intelligence to deal with anything other than the simplest of group dynamics (eg "aisleyne, you're the boss").

jayne is a big fat fuckin' liar (i met somebody like her at a party last night - she threw a drink over me then denied doing it - then she fell into a table of glasses and started moaning about how nobody appreciated her 'speaking her mind')
richard calls mikey a "fucking asshole" to his face, then goes into the kitchen and complains about people acting aggressively
― dave q (listerine), Friday, 14 July 2006 11:04 (nineteen years ago)
i haven't seen the mindgames. they probably weren't as overt or obvious as those conducted by grace, nikki, jayne etc. i am quite slow, you see.
Oh and 'she reminds me of me mates innit' doesn't really get to the essence of this innate goodness that I'm failing to see in her.
well, i get the impression you'd probably hate my mates, so don't bother.
and i didn't say 'innit', but thanks for adding that extra bit of 'colour'.

i have to say, tho, i got majorly steamed at the way nikki and jayne were LYING to aisleyne when she was standing outside the diary room. it was just so blatant, and pathetic. i'm not sure if watching this programme is good for my health.

Such as? Also, Nikki is not ACTUALLY a baby.
Nuh uh, it's cited as a reason why she makes my toes curl - this woman in the late-20s talking like some kid hanging out with her mates at the bus stop, "I'm too ghetto for this house innit, hyuhyuhyuhyuhyu hyuuk".
Yet more utter, utter bullshit. Plenty of people "in the late-20s" [sic] say things like "you get me?", as far as I'm aware there isn't some kind of cut-off point in age after which one has to speak the Queen's English. Plus the phrase "ghetto" was used to describe Aisleyne first by the likes of Grace, with very dubious overtones - at no point have I heard Aisleyne saying "I'm too real for this house, I'm from the streets" - she might think she has a better grasp of reality than Nikki, but who doesn't?

I thought I corrected that [sic]! Aislene as a 1920s flapper... hm. Anyway, sorry Flyboy I can't help but wince uncontrollably when I hear anyone out of their teens talk 'street'. Shoot me. With your 'gak'. And your 'posse'.
If you'd watched BBLB last night you'd have seen countless examples of Aislene making an utter, utter dick of herself. Including about 4 examples of 'I'm too ghetto for this place' and a brilliant snippet of Nikki in the diary room pissing her sides at Aislene's way of speaking. Oh and did you know Aislene is so ghetto she once has to eat bourbon biscuits for breakfast, lunch AND dinner? And this one time, yeah, she had nothing to eat but frozen peas! (that was her explaining just how ghetto she is)

it's a bizarre combination of quite disturbing (the muted colours; the fact she looks v young; the sinister "director's commentary" at the start) and fucking hysterical (the music! the camera falling off the bed! the unforgettable denouement of some welsh bloke's big fucking arse going up and down!)
poor imogen, though. i bet he promised her he'd destroyed that. ach. you can't trust anyone these days.

To add to upthread it was actually Sezer who first called attention to Aisleyne's patois issues. I am quite sure that considering his background - and despite his smarmy misogyny - that he would be well-placed to comment on just who is and isn't posing as a ghetteur. Aisleyne is like the girls who made my life hell at school until they inevitably became pregnoids at 15.

i dunno. i think - and i might be alone here - that she went at the right time. i've never particularly enjoyed watching her, as i've said elsewhere, but i can understand why other people do (mrs fiendish thinks she's great); however, her schtick was starting to become seriously annoying and i think that within the next two weeks the tide would have turned and the "fun" of watching a needy, insecure and borderline insane woman lurching wildly from emotion to emotion would have turned rather sour.
but this way she'll be remembered - like tickle and jade - as one of the great winners that never was; and she gets to keep her sanity (or what there is of it) and avoid the inevitable falling-out with jayne that was bound to come. etc.
i'm still surprised she was voted out, though. i thought everybody except me and the rabid pro-aisleynites absolutely loved her. ah well.

remember how much we used to care about Big Brother? lmao! This series probably had about ten threads on its own.
The classic BB episodes on E4 atm and the "who is she?!!!" Nikki Grahame freakout episode is one of those featured. Her screaming around the garden flailing her head around.
The fight night episode from 2004 is not featured although I imagine that one would be somewhat problematic to show just now, to put it mildly.

Aisleyne! Her autobiography is my favourite celeb book ever, it is the only one I own that comes with cover recommendations from Charlie Brooker, Mike Tyson and Amy Winehouse.
I think of the first seven series so fondly. It started just as I started high school so I was the right age for watching them, ie I was home pretty much every night instead of going out and missing episodes, which is why I couldn't stick with the later seasons. Plus, everyone was watching them and talking about them, I don't really think you get that factor quite the same now.
Coming from a small working-class insular town in the west of Scotland, BB was probably the first time I was ever exposed to people of such different backgrounds and experiences. It was really useful fo me to see Brian Dowling win at an age when I was figuring out my own gayness, that even despite the Keep The Clause campaign and the fear of homophobia everywhere there was another narrative possible, one where a gay man could be liked and successful.
