hi, my name is marooned, my interests are entropy and kimchee ramen, hobbies: waking up and everyone's entitled to his own infinity, excuse my superior taste...

pop albums:

(10) godspeed you black emperor - yanqui u.x.o.: not their best record, but if you don't respect them you are [insert dogmatic statement of the kind oscar wilde would make were he alive today, preferably including the words 'caliban' and 'corrupt' several times]
(9) nautilis - are you an axolotl?: well, are you?
(8) coh - netmörk: the New Music™
(7) phantomsmasher - s/t: {irony}music for romantic evenings together{/irony}
(6) ekkehard ehlers - plays: especially great if you're reading stendhal's le rouge et le noir while listening to it
(5) city of caterpillar - s/t: very ably walks (ok, make that "juggernauts" [insert witty statement which makes the angry grammarians think twice]) on rather thin ice
(4) interpol - turn on the bright lights: love songs for non-lovers (& cut the backlash nonsense)
(3) asa chang & junrei - tsuginepu: since because [see note on item 5] of that s*itty movie it's not cool to use the word 'serendipitous' anymore, i'll just call it, erm, "grand"
(2) cassetteboy - the parker tapes: jacques derrida, eat your heart out [insert random insult to angry philosophy undergrads]
(1) sonic dragolgo - don't stop the music: if you don't ENJOY this record, there is no hope for you. i'm dead serious. if you enjoy this record and don't FORCE your local dj to play it, you (ahem) SU*K!

pop songs:

(10) autechre - cap.iv
(9) yeah yeah yeahs - rich
(8) mono - com(?)
(7) spoon - the way we get by
(6) xinlisupreme - all you need is love was not true
(5) boards of canada - 1969
(4) boris with merzbow - water fuzz
(3) múm - green grass of tunnel
(2) walkmen - wake up!
(1) aaliyah - more than a woman [insert preemptive admission of 2001 release date; insert sophisticated defence against accusations of novelty-hedging etc.; insert expletive of whirlwind in pre-sponse to all the (ahem) "haytaaz"; insert (cough) "props" to anyone who spotted the wyndham lewis/BLAST reference]

random fun facts:

--- if there were an album that had 'moon in june' as side a and 'a plague of lighthouse keepers' as side b, it would be the best album of all time
--- the u.s.a.'s form of "democracy" is a sick f***ing travesty
--- ozeki asashoryu will win the yusho next sunday in the kyushu basho

"ozeki asashoryu will win the yusho next sunday in the kyushu basho"

Oh I know exactly what you mean.

Curtis Stephens, Friday, 15 November 2002 03:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd cut the backlash nonsense, but I LEFT MY URGE IN THE ICEBOX!

Anthony Miccio (Anthony Miccio), Friday, 15 November 2002 03:23 (twenty-three years ago)

curtis: well, since musashimaru lost yesterday...

anthony: exactly

But Fushitsusha is still the #1 act other than Derek Bailey and Jim O'Rourke that appears at least once in every issue of the Wire. And the latter two achieve this by being sickeningly prolific.

And Autechre isn't pop, it's crap.

TS: Autechre : Fushitsusha? (laptop + Max/MSP vs. guitar + hair)

Tom Millar (Millar), Friday, 15 November 2002 03:42 (twenty-three years ago)

ridiculous!!

(so stick around marooned i BEG you)

bob zemko (bob), Friday, 15 November 2002 04:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ilm is fucking doomed...

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 15 November 2002 04:13 (twenty-three years ago)

wait, wait...this is just marcello...white flags down everyone...

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 15 November 2002 04:16 (twenty-three years ago)

bob: very nice! lol

tom: TS : Autechre > Anyone except maybe obvious sentimental faves... i'm hereby forfeiting the "i won't get into a discussion about ae"-approach, but really i won't, i'm off to the museum now anyway...

i didn't QUITE get the first part, tom, i guess i like the wire (and keiji haino even, going to see him play next week) theoretically but i haven't read a single issue, so...

jess: ?! but yes, doomed, evidently (a field day for wyndham lewis-aficionados, this)

by the way i've seen that other "10 something" thread now to which i could have posted, but screw it, i'm literally marooned and this is my first day on this board so...

i guess some people think it's to early to post their 2002 faves but everything that's supposed to come out is already available, isn't it? - so get the lists rolling this way!

Hello Marooned. Welcome to the boards. Your mention of Interpol reminds me to start a thread.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 15 November 2002 08:43 (twenty-three years ago)

jess: thanks, i appreciate it... is there a "short history of ILM" thread somewhere? i mean, really... there seem to be some prolific buggers on the loose here

honda: at least ONE person likes me and/or the mighty SD :) are you in japan right now?

tom: thank you! i promise to limit the "doom" i'll bring to this board to recreational doses

marooned (marooned), Friday, 15 November 2002 09:22 (twenty-three years ago)
