is there a thread about X?

they're unsearchable, which is somehow appropriate. they're also way overdue to be ripped-off bigtime.

If you search for "exene" &/or cervenka" it brings up a few related threads, but not a specific X thread.

Weird how this band seems to have just vanished off the map in recent years.

uh, why don't you try searching under one of their album titles? (haha xpost)

or why don't we just have a thread about X? yeesh.

they were one of the first punkish bands i ever got really into. i hear really good things about the australian X too.

"The World's a Mess It's In My Kiss" is one of the biggest, sloppiest, realest, best love songs I've ever heard.

Saw them on a reunion tour a couple years back, and they still destroyed, although Exene sang slightly different lyrics to "Nausea" ("say oh no oh no oh no/my head's in a vice") in ordeer not to offend Billy Zoom.

Devestating lyrically, as anyone who's ever been hopelessly in love and still able to fail in love with somebody else at the drop of a hat can attest. Had the chops of a prog rock band, but never for a second seemed like they were slumming with there three chord 1234 music.

Apropos of nothing, X Japan's guitarist hide may have died as a result of autoerotic asphixiation.

is Billy Zoom born again or something? I love how he smiled all the time onstage, so unpunkly punk

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Friday, 24 February 2006 19:05 (twenty years ago)

Yes, he is.

x-post - yeah, the Australian X were really good. "I Don't Wanna Go Out" is a classic. you can still find that am rep CD from about 13 years ago.

morphius reissued an assie x album too, right? at least i seem to remember so. i'll have to check them out.

wangdangsweetpentangle (teenagequiet), Friday, 24 February 2006 19:12 (twenty years ago)

i used to have an (the?) aussie x album -- i liked it, but i eventually deleted the mp3s b/c i was low on disk space and something had to go.

Not sure about that, I'm really only familiar with this, which is their classic and well worth tracking down.

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Friday, 24 February 2006 19:53 (twenty years ago)

Which was an answer to this thread

Redd Harvest (Ken L), Friday, 24 February 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Goddamnit. A coworker "borrowed" my copy of Los Angeles, and I really need to get another... Thanks for reminding me.

js (honestengine), Friday, 24 February 2006 20:06 (twenty years ago)

Weird, everybody rants about how good they were live and some mention Unclogged in those threads but NO ONE rates Live at the Whiskey A Go-Go on the Fabulous Sunset Strip ?

the australian X are definitely worth a listen (don't disregard me for my patriotism). The aspirations album is awesome, in particular the song "suck suck"

alexandra glazov (moscow nights), Monday, 27 February 2006 14:45 (twenty years ago)
