I'd say "ignorant bastard" is being a bit harsh.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Does Alex in "Mainhatten" [sic] realize that the name of the burrough is misspelled?

King Kobra (King Kobra), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Only an ignorant bastard would dedicate a thread to the ignorant bastard who started 7 threads on Radiohead

j/k

JasonD (JasonD), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:39 (twenty-two years ago)

but i just looked lower in the threads and noticed what you were talking about. what an ignorant bastard that guy is. haha.

JasonD (JasonD), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Mainhatten is in Germany, you ignorant bastard.

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

hey, hey, slag off, ya ignorant bastard!

King Kobra (King Kobra), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

thank you, alex in nyc. i really love to discuss songs instead of concepts or whole albums or bands. there is much more i can get out of it. and if you don't like radiohead just ignore those threads, what's the problem? if there was any other album this year where each song was worth talking about would you tell me please william? i haven't heard it.

mainhattan<>manhattan. mainhattan is frankfurt in germany. main the river and -hattan the skyline.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

main – the river
hat – the pointy thing you wear on yer head &
tan – what you get on yer ass after hours o' spankin'

dyson (dyson), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry, Alex. Didn't mean to rag on your band. It's just that I was watching a clip of Radiohead performing Creep on the old Arsenial (sic?) Hall show and I was struck by what a big melodramatic sissy Thom Yorke was/is. That performance was a bit over the top for taste. They might as well have been auditioning for StarSearch or something.

William R Henderson (Cabin Essence), Friday, 13 June 2003 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I need to go and start about a hundred threads on every single released by Duran Duran, The Police, Yellow Magic Orchestra, Echo & The Bunnymen, and then another bunch for every song on the last two Flaming Lips records, ooh, and I'd like to discuss every individual song on my Clash box set too, does that sound like a lot of fucking fun for everyone?

alex it's fine to be a fanboy but a thread for every song seems a little much, maybe

Millar (Millar), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

i've actually enjoyed these threads, i don't think it should be too much of a problem. remember - it was naked as sin that started this game...

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:06 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm fine with it; if you want to do that, millar. just please not duran duran – please.

dyson (dyson), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:09 (twenty-two years ago)

alex it's fine to be a fanboy but a thread for every song seems a little much, maybe
those threads will be forgotten soon. i am not a fan of radiohead at all. i used to almost hate them before amnesiac. but the last two albums have been grand cru and i feel that each song on those records deserves a thread. radiohead somehow seem to distill our time, the 21st century, the estrangement and the beauty of the estrangement.

and hail to the thief came out on monday. why the heck should we discuss some old duran duran rubbish?

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:17 (twenty-two years ago)

hail to the thief as I recall also already had its own thread. It just seems ridiculous. Whatever 21st century Radiohead is distilling certainly isn't the one I live in, I can tell you that.

Millar (Millar), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:19 (twenty-two years ago)

those threads will be forgotten soon

The ILX database is not going to forget them. And this is more the issue I have with starting a thread-per-song deal... besides the whole indulgence issue, I'd hate a precedent to get started where the search capabilities and capacities of ILX would become crippled because someone really likes a band, you know? (I'm speaking for myself, and not the moderators, I should note)

radiohead somehow seem to distill our time, the 21st century, the estrangement and the beauty of the estrangement.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:21 (twenty-two years ago)

IF THIS SHIT KEEPS UP I AM GOING TO MAKE A THREAD FOR EVERY SONG BY THE LOCUST!

Jon Williams (ex machina), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Case in point.

donut bitch (donut), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

perhaps the threads could have been spread over a few days (i think that's how naked as sin did it, and there were no complaints then). doesn't bother me personally, though, but i'm a radiohead fan :-) Maybe it's a drag if you've no interest in them.

weasel diesel (K1l14n), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

This is like growing up gay in the American south.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:37 (twenty-two years ago)

or like growing up jon williams

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I *AM* GAY.

Jon Williams (ex machina), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:45 (twenty-two years ago)

i think this album begs for closer examination of the individual songs. well done alex.

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Friday, 13 June 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

you know, hmv in london has a whole radiohead "hail to the thief" exhibit. its very arty, but i still dont see the point.

Bob Shaw (Bob Shaw), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing on these threads have made me want to hear the album.

Brain, Friday, 13 June 2003 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

>>if there was any other album this year where each song was worth talking about would you tell me please william? i haven't heard it.<

yet MORE albums i kind of like this year

please note links to two additonal threads, as well.

(and these were from before i heard the brooks & dunn album, even!!!)

chuck, Friday, 13 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't care if you are jon, yr. still acting like an asshole.

(also i think we did something similar for the last album. if enuf people treat an album like an "event" then it makes plenty sense. but yes -- spacing out is good. maybe alex can revive and add to one each day or something in sequence. this matters mainly coz it'll help his threads get the attention they might be worth [how would i know? i don't pay attention to radiohead])

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Friday, 13 June 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

alex - melissa already started a thread for every song (a chicken in every pot) back in february when it leaked. even if hail to the theif was twice as great as you say it is there isn't a need for two threads for every song on the album.

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 14 June 2003 01:14 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't find those threads, james. i found six threads on six songs. but they were not started by melissa, they were started by "naked as sin"

for those who are interested, here are the links to all threads:
- 2+2=5
- Sit Down, Stand Up
- Sail to the Moon
- Backdrifts
- Go to Sleep
- Where I End and You Begin
- We Suck Young Blood
- The Gloaming
- There There
- I Will
- A Punch-Up at a Wedding
- Myxamatosis
- Scatterbrain
- Wolf at the Door

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i didn't find those threads, james. i found six threads on six songs. but they were not started by melissa, they were started by "naked as sin". so i added the eight threads on the songs missing. there is only ONE thread by song now. at least after what i have found with the search. which is becoming quite slow actually.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:42 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry about that. i hit the submit button too many times. always the same thing, no patience. ilm has become quite slow though.

alex in mainhattan (alex63), Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah James, I didn't start them. *vaguely offended that you just assumed it was her*

Melissa W (Melissa W), Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe if the titles looked better it would be defensible starting a thread for each song. In fact, I'm going to start individual threads for everything by Anal Cunt

dave q, Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:55 (twenty-two years ago)

ha - my bad, I actually went and looked at the thread's afterward and you're right. I don't know why I though Melissa started them threads. (if it means anything it just means "Melissa = World's Greatest Radiohead Fan")

James Blount (James Blount), Saturday, 14 June 2003 07:57 (twenty-two years ago)

melissa in being easily offended shockah ;-) (look winky face, no need to be ofended).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Saturday, 14 June 2003 11:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Sigh. Ah well, imagine that, me not opening a thread that calls Radiohead fans ignorant bastards!

kate (kate), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

IF THIS SHIT KEEPS UP I AM GOING TO MAKE A THREAD FOR EVERY SONG BY THE LOCUST!

Now we're talkin.

scott m (mcd), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 13:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Nobody at all complained when Jeff and I were doing this for the Streets' album last year! (I think we got bored after 5 or 6 anyway)

I am very keen on individual song threads but yes they should be spaced out and in an ideal world there should be some kind of question in the thread to get things rolling, not just 'oh say something about this'.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I'm an asshole because I don't validate your terrible, boring musical taste?

Can I put my foot up your ass?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I think the key is whether these threads have been popular at all. And yes, I think they have, to some small extent, at least -- because lots of us have been listening to HTTT a lot lately and are eager to share our opinions. I wouldn't want people to do this for every single new album they like, but only because it'd be more difficult to garner as many responses and so the threads would die slow deaths. But it wouldn't exactly bother me.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:30 (twenty-two years ago)

FASCIST

Jon Williams (ex machina), Tuesday, 17 June 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it's fair enough, even though i haven't read any of the threads
if enough people enjoy them then their existance is justified,if not the threads aren't harming anyone...
