Heh. Go on, revive this thread next year. I dare yez.

nine months pass...
Well, seeing as no-one else will, and I won't be around the first week...
Pre-BB: "Nothing is what it seems..."
25 May 2005

The Big Brother team have tonight confirmed to members of the media and press that there WILL be 13 housemates in this year's Big Brother house on Friday.

However, as previously reported, the housemate that walks in last and closes the door behind them is in for a rocky ride, as the 13th housemate will be the unluckiest ever.

The BB team confirm that the housemates have 'nowhere to hide' and that they even have heat-seeking thermal imaging camera technology this year in the bedrooms to capture the housemates' every movement!

The housemates are currently in isolation and have no idea what awaits them, not even the 13th housemate knows about what is in store for them. They will face a number of decisions during their time in the Big Brother house, and this series promises to be the most unpredictable one ever as nothing is what it seems.

mark grout (mark grout), Thursday, 26 May 2005 14:28 (twenty years ago)

Never again, I said after last year's exploitation-fest. Never again.

Then the trailers started, and the weather's shite anyway, and I don't have a publishing deal or a holiday home in France or Greece, so what the hell.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:31 (twenty years ago)

I have a work night out tomorrow night. Would it be wrong to go home to watch Big Brother. Perhaps I could steer them to a pub with a telly then ignore everyone. Hmmmm.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:51 (twenty years ago)

won't b watching this one, saw none of the last two, in a nutshell, what have i missed?

piscesboy, Thursday, 26 May 2005 15:53 (twenty years ago)

it has been a year since the black rabbit whorehouse?

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 26 May 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

I don't know

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 26 May 2005 19:24 (twenty years ago)

Sweepstake on how many faux-lesbian pictorials Shell and Vanessa are going to appear in in Nuts and Zoo over the next two months?

I'm gonna go with 913.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 26 May 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

mrs fiendish has just reminded me that at 11.40 tonight there's the second part of that "best-ever housemates" thing. must ... resist ... naah, fuck it. damn. eleven weeks of my brain slowly rotting and seeping out through my ear.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

I remember watching jason enter, with colin, in the merchant city, that night

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:46 (twenty years ago)

How the fuck is Kate Lawler the 8th best housemate ever? Has this been really odd all the way through (I have just discovered this is on)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:51 (twenty years ago)

Haha, Stuart = 7th. This is like the poll of idiots.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:55 (twenty years ago)

Yet, i am watching it.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

cannot resist......help!!!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

Have Michelle and Stuart spent all their Hello! money voting for each other or something?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

I thought for a moment you meant that tosser Stewart from BB1 was #7. That really would have been a turn up for the books.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

the most tragic thing is i am trying to work out who the top 3 will be.

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

Jade, Brian, Tickle. (I haven't been watching so I have no idea if they've been on already)

You could sub Tickle for Cameron or maybe Alex?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Alba, do you mean BB2's Stewart? The wanker with the comedy contact lenses?

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

No, I mean Nadia. Channel 4 viewers have short memories.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

(xpost with myself)

I had totally forgotten the existence of loads of these people by the way.

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

really hoping that by missing tomorrow night's show i will manage not to watch it this year. (who am i kidding?) someone take my tv, please!

stirmonster (stirmonster), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

Sorry - yes, Stewart was indeed BB2, not BB1. He was a management consulant or something, fancies himself as a leader and I really hated him. Oh, it's all getting so misty.

Alba (Alba), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

I had forgotten Jonny and Ray both existed and they both came second in their series didn't they. Who on earth voted for Jonny (actually between him and Lawler I'd have voted for him, but only by default as I'd stopped caring by that stage)

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:46 (twenty years ago)

Aw, lovely lovely Helen! I'd completely forgotten how much I was in love with her at the time. God, that probably implies there's other girls from REAL LIFE who I used to be in love with and have also now completely forgotten. I should get channel four to do a top twenty rundown for me.

I'll be in the pub tomorrow. Boo. Can't remember having missed a BB opening night before.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 26 May 2005 22:56 (twenty years ago)

Well, we shall see the opening night, but the rest of the week, who knows...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

um, they keep saying E4 is available on Freeview from tonight, just in time for a summer of live streaming of housemates asleep on the sofa. anyone have confirmation of this?

koogs (koogs), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:41 (twenty years ago)

I had totally forgotten the existence of loads of these people by the way.
I know what you mean, although I am sure it is more a case of deliberately blocking them from memory!
I am so sad, to be excited about another BB.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

> anyone have confirmation of this?

yes, yes i do. it'll be channel 14 on freeview:

http://www.channel4.com/entertainment/tv/microsites/H/howtogete4/index.html

koogs (koogs), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

Never again, I said after last year's exploitation-fest. Never again.

Then the trailers started, and the weather's shite anyway, and I don't have a publishing deal or a holiday home in France or Greece, so what the hell.

-- accentmonkey (tris...), May 26th, 2005.

The weather's lovely down here at the moment, and I do have a publishing deal, so BB6 can go to hell.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:49 (twenty years ago)

I don't understand, does this mean E4 is going to be free free? It's already on Freeview Channel 14, but as part of Top-up TV. I thought C4 were launching a different free free channel later in the year.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 May 2005 07:58 (twenty years ago)

Free free on freeview free.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:01 (twenty years ago)

i do not want to be disappointed by this.

N_RQ, Friday, 27 May 2005 08:04 (twenty years ago)

What about some free improv on freeview free?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

70 and 71. Well, they look like they're improvising anyway...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:09 (twenty years ago)

the housemate that walks in last and closes the door behind them is in for a rocky ride, as the 13th housemate will be the unluckiest ever

so I guess they have already pre-determined which of the contestants it'll be, then - I wonder how they did this. I like the idea of someone being so insufferable that this extra hellish dimension was created especially for them.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:24 (twenty years ago)

I hope it's Calum.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

So that's where he's gone...

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:29 (twenty years ago)

They should ignore nominations/votes for this 13th guest so that even though s/he's having a pig of a time s/he'll think s/he's popular and will stick it out for weeks.

Onimo (GerryNemo), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

I thought C4 were launching a different free free channel later in the year.

Yeah, that was what they originally announced. However, I haven't heard anything about that plan for ages. E4 itself is indeed now going completely free on Freeview. Good eh? Don't know if they're still launching another channel or not.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:44 (twenty years ago)

I am ashamedly excited about this, if it's anywhere near as good as last year then I'm sold.

and WOW to teh E4 going freeview!

Ste (Fuzzy), Friday, 27 May 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

An E4 +1 channel has appeared on my Freeview and it's streaming constant trailers! But the E4 channel remains black. I hope this will change - my freeview is temperamental and blippy and I don't want to have to watch things an hour later than everyone else all the time.

I will probably miss BB all weekend - I'm flying down to see my folks, who are very anti, and my flight lands at 9.05 this evening so that's tonight's prog ruled out regardless.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

my fact-checking live-in says you have to retune the digibox to get it...

N_RQ, Friday, 27 May 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

I have to do that about twice a week anyway. TMF and Hits appear each time I do it, last between 10 minutes and 2 days, then conk out again. I'm a bit worried this will also happen with E4. It's just down to having the wrong kind of arial and living in the wrong kind of place, really.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 May 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

what is UP with channel 5 in norf lunnun? it's breaking my heart!

N_RQ, Friday, 27 May 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

news for people who don't like labels...
Eleven of the housemates are single, two are gay and two are bisexual. Three of them were born outside the UK.

One had a "high-profile occupation", another was in the Parachute Regiment, while a third used to be a professional windsurfer and basketball player.

mark grout (mark grout), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:18 (twenty years ago)

my source tells me channel 14 is currently playing 'the best of victor'.

N_RQ, Friday, 27 May 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

WHY AM I NOT AT HOME WATCHING IT?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Watching these highlights does prove to me that I would hate the BB house. The idea of no lock on the bathroom door, and people peeing on the bathroom floor, or in the shower, or any of that loo-related malarkey would not be for me.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 27 May 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

also...
The weather's lovely down here at the moment, and I do have a publishing deal, so BB6 can go to hell.

-- Marcello Carlin (marcellocarli...), May 27th, 2005 8:49 AM.

Your loss, Carlin, YOUR LOSS!

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Friday, 27 May 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

DEREK THE GAY BLACK CONSERVATIVE MUST STAY

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:13 (twenty years ago)

This is weird - it's the first time we've had a BB contestant who is already *big* in that he's had articles in national newspapers about him.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:15 (twenty years ago)

It's this year's big titted simpleton!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:25 (twenty years ago)

I like how meeting a black guy Maxwell said "This is off the hook". He knows what the kids say nowadays.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

Off the hook! Off the hook!

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:26 (twenty years ago)

It's this year's get-tired-quick idiot!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

Vanessa must go. Like, five minutes ago.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Isn't she one of the nurses on No Angels, anyway?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell obv fancies himself as a modern day Jim Davidson.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 19:33 (twenty years ago)

Do people still say "dry" as an insult?

Maxwell really doesn't like the look of Craig McFly.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

Ah, the I'm not racist but I hate immigrants line. Marvellous.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

She really has chosen the worst outfit of the lot of them - even the PVC nurse doesn't look quite as bad.

caitlin (caitlin), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:02 (twenty years ago)

All immigrants do want to bomb us, though.

Pfff. E4's on a delay. They've already shown us this bit.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

also, she is possibly the only female person who didn't say something along the lines of "I know I'm sexy and gorgeous".

They should replace Sam with someone who's an actual Oxford student.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

THE EYES! THE EYES!

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

also, it will be no fun watching Makosi be the unlucky 13th because she will just cry. Maxwell and Anthony, now there are people I'd like to see psychologically tortured.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Betfair already has a live betting market. Roberto has been installed as the preliminary favourite by the look of things.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

Man, I wish I'd had the presence of mind to buy a set-top box today.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

(I have a soft spot for Makosi because I love her hair, also she used to be an elephant: maybe she and Mary can bond over past lives!)

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

also - "come on, headdress - don't let me down now, bitch!"

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

I really, really hope Sam gets booted out next week.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

How are we meant to discern between any of the "I'm so gorgeous" girls? Half of them really aren't, anyway. Lesley is FAT. Possibly Saskia is the most boring. I can't even remember them now.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

fuck! totally forgot it was starting tonight. having skim-read the thread - thanks folks - my vote's for mary already, or maxwell maybe.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

actually, that 1/4 sri lankan dimwit saskia who thinks all immigrants should be booted out is going to make things very interesting i suspect. her constant 'im not what you expect! im challenging your expectations as i speak!' blather is brilliant.

blahbariantheoriginal, Friday, 27 May 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

I skipped most of BB1/ BB2 - watched some of BB3 (cannot remember why - maybe Kate's legs?), missed all of BB4 and BB5. I tuned in tonight because I heard a Brit porn star was gonna be cast and was interested to see who it might be. Now I regret wasting an hour of my life.

So is the catch this year that they are all - every last one - the sort of hideous cunts that you would speed up a lorry in order to flatten on the road?

TONY - I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY. TWO OF THESE GIRLS, ONE OF WHOM ADMITTED TO BEING THICK AND THE OTHER OF WHOM SAYS CHRISTINA AGUILERRA IS THE MOST IMPORTANT WOMEN IN HISTORY, ARE AT MICKEY MOUSE UNIVERSITIES GETTING DEGREES.

BUT KEEP PUTTING IN YOUR 50% OF PEOPLE INTO FAKE UNIS.

Degrade degrees further you little shit. Make all of us who worked hard in academia comparable with these thickos. I hope this country rots.

Big Brother Bob, Friday, 27 May 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Saskia was 'I'm not racist but...'. Vanessa was the one with no distinguishing features at all.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Oh Vanessa was the retard wasn't she? I mean, I did actually assume she was mentally disabled there.

There should be a ban on people with the same names as last year's lot being used, especially if like both Vanessas they are entirely nondescript.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

oh yes WHICH WAS THE ONE WHO HAD NEVER READ A BOOK?

and why wasn't HE chosen to be the unlucky 13th?

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, I really really hated Vanessa last year, so she can't have been that nondescript. That said, I can't remember much about her, apart from her being the target of Jason's sex pest action.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

Any thoughts on potential winners, controversial characters etc? Think Derek could do very well.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

It was Craig who had never read a book. Craig, the boy who wanted to promote the opinions of his hairdressing salon.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

Craig's an obvious cunt.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:37 (twenty years ago)

oh yes WHICH WAS THE ONE WHO HAD NEVER READ A BOOK?

Craig.

I seriously think that Vanessa could win the series. I did so well on my work's election sweepstakes - guessed the amount of Labour wins right and managed to beat the exit poll two weeks before the day - that I might actually put a bet on her.

Still, look at Davina on toilet cam:

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

It would be great if Mary did win, but I think she is possibly too weird.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

I thought Derek would stand out like a sore thumb when I saw him but not any more, he is quite canny and also amusing to watch. If he doesn't go on about the Tory stuff too much he could well become a favourite.

The dimwitted public will, unfortunately, take against Mary :(

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:38 (twenty years ago)

I mean, they were booing Mary for no reason as soon as they saw her.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:39 (twenty years ago)

I think Mary is too ethereal for most voters. No really phwoor factor for male voters, and a bit of a stretch for teenie texters to identify with her. But Nadia did win last year....

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

also, some of the so-called straight men this year are camper than the gayers. Given that the gayers include Kemal this is quite some feat. Craig and Anthony I am looking at you here, but not for too long as - despite what you think - you're both fugly.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:40 (twenty years ago)

Mary's route to public acceptance could be via aura reading, I think.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:41 (twenty years ago)

Lesley's a munter.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but she's not really a witch, right?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Faceparty being YA friendster rip off?

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:42 (twenty years ago)

Well, it depends what you mean by witch...

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

I think the 6-pint theory of gayness might be proven with one or two of the men.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 27 May 2005 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Yesterday frontbench Conservative MP Gerald Howarth was criticised by Labour for telling a 'tasteless' joke about Black Tory member Derek Laud.

He is reported to have told a dinner party: "I have a lovely story about hunting. One of my friends is Derek Laud, who some of you will know. Derek is as black as the ace of spades.

"Derek is the first black master of foxhounds in the New Forest. One day he was out hunting, he actually looked splendid in his hunting pinks. And these antis were there, and they shouted, 'What are you doing hunting with these people?'

"So Derek gave this great smile, (and says) 'Well I am enjoying a good day's hunting, old boy'." Howarth said the reply came: "Well a hundred years ago, they would have been hunting your ancestors."

"So Derek looks down imperiously from his mount, and says to them, 'A hundred years ago, my ancestors would have been eating you'."

Dermot has just reported that Mary thinks the gnomes are alive.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 May 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

GOOD NEWS: Mary likes Kemal and Mary, so they're guaranteed some good editing.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 27 May 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

I just got some Geordie woman from AstraZeneca's voicemail.

SCIENCE IS OK. CRAIG INTRIGUES ME.

All the rest can go to hell. Mary is having you all on. She wants a TV presenter gig just like all the rest.

Actually, I kind of like Saskia, despite the racism (which I missed cause I was too busy laughing at the "I can't be racist cause I'm a quarter Sri Lankan" preamble.)

And Derek's not a bad man, except by association.

Vanessa perhaps wouldn't be lined up against a wall.

I am being too soft, again.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 23:17 (twenty years ago)

Anthony = the Cristiano Ronaldo of reality TV. He must go. First. Then Craig.

I like Maxwell, he'll come good eventually, I think. My first thought on seeing Roberto was "they've got too many cocky ladies men in here", and then realised I was a FILTHY RACIST and only saying that because he was Italian. Even if I am eventually proved right.

I suspect this series might suffer for lack of a Stuart or Shell, there's such a thing as overegging the mentalism pudding. And probably too many "I'm really shallow, me" girls in there.

Initial hunch = Maxwell will win. Science will put out an atrocious record.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 27 May 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

Has anyone uncovered Mary's Livejournal yet?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 27 May 2005 23:33 (twenty years ago)

The faceparty thing for Lesley can't be real. It said she was online for me too, that she last logged in on the 27th (wouldn't she have been a bit busy?), her outfit on there is the only one she's been seen in so far and her favourite author is suuposedly "her who wrote Tracy Beaker".

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

I agree, about Maxwell! I think Mary is for real, though.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:10 (twenty years ago)

I like Mary and Derek but I haven't actually seen any of this yet.

Also I don't get the derrick joke at all!

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:11 (twenty years ago)

ILX Poll:

Who is the most psychologically damaged out of all the housemates? My early hunch is Lesley. I have no idea what made Derek into the man he is (posters of Thatcher on his teenage walls?) but he seems to have found some peace in himself.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:13 (twenty years ago)

They should replace Sam with someone who's an actual Oxford student.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:21 (twenty years ago)

Damged people: I think Lesley also. She will be at the centre of something gruesomely entertaining, I think.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Saturday, 28 May 2005 00:24 (twenty years ago)

My considered opinion so far:

Yay: Derek, Science, Kemal, Mary
Bleh: Vanessa, Roberto, Lesley, Anthony, Makosi
Argh: Sam, Little Craig, Racist Saskia, Maxwell

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 28 May 2005 07:48 (twenty years ago)

Lesley only lasted a couple of hours before getting them out, and then partook in a "three-way snog" with Anthony and Vanessa. Could be horribly fascinating.

Makosi has finally had the task explained to her so she understands it.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 28 May 2005 07:56 (twenty years ago)

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:16 (twenty years ago)

two of the women described themselves as bubbly in their diary room tests = aaaaaggggggrrrrrgggggghhhhhh

this is the first bb where I don't identify with any of trhe housemates in any small amount, is this a sign of getting old?

also, Dermot O'leary - be ashamed of your terrible autocue reading last night - yr supposed to be a professional

Porkpie (porkpie), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:33 (twenty years ago)

Roberto has SO MANY TEETH. He must have about a hundred in each row.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

The sound drop-outs on E4 are bugging me to death already.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:52 (twenty years ago)

I've never been a fan of Dermot but he is starting to annoy me almost as much as Davina, which is to say A LOT. They are actually more annoying than some of the housemates.

I think the fact that Derek has brain and wit, and will probably be very funny (both intentionally and unintentionally), will ultimately be more important than his Tory-ness: I can see lots of people on this thread taking to him.

Alba is otm re: Maxwell. He is perfectly normal, we have all encountered people like him, they are cunts => he is a cunt.

As someone on BBLB pointed out last night, it is interesting that all the girls except Mary think they're gonna be the hardnuts, the alpha females. And some are going to get eaten alive. Mary could succeed because she's pretty much the only female who hasn't expressed a desire to play those games (I think Vanessa's role will be more village idiot, as well). Talking of Vanessa, people said last night that she hand Craig had 'bonded', uuuurrrrghhh.

I pretty much agree with RickyT except Makosi is closer to 'yay' (I feel so sorry for her) and Anthony is definitely in the 'aargh' category.

Lex for BB house '06!

don't tempt me!

The Lex (The Lex), Saturday, 28 May 2005 08:56 (twenty years ago)

b-b-b-b-but, the question on everyone's lips....

who is the premiership footballer that Saskia has shagged?

my bet = Michael Carrick

Porkpie (porkpie), Saturday, 28 May 2005 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Is shagging a premiership footballer not a bit passe for BB contestants? I haven't seen any of this yet, but from photo up there Saskia looks like Michelle from last year.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

Lex, you should so do it!

RickyT (RickyT), Saturday, 28 May 2005 09:16 (twenty years ago)

I thought Makosi had completely flipped out last night - then I realised she's playing the get-everyone-to-hate-me game. And she's doing quite well at it.

Disappointed there's no decent looking blonde girls this year. WTF's that about? Sam is the only one worth looking at, and, as usual, the BB fanatical gays & girls will soon block-vote her out.

Oh, I don't suppose the Mail will touch this one, but he seems, shall we say, a bit controversial which is the kind of thing that knots their knickers about reality TV. Also he is high-profile, and a mate of the Hamiltons, and their alibi when they were accused of that sexual assault stuff a while back. I imagine he must be very thick-skinned to put himself right into the public eye in such a goldfish bowl environment.

I have no opinion on whether any of this stuff is true, by the way.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

I had exactly the same thought. Especially as I probably qualify as lefty, vegetarian-who-eats-fish intellectual.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 10:30 (twenty years ago)

Watching the Top 20 housemates thing on C4 this week, I was struck by how innocent the fist couple of series now seem. The housemates did generally seem like reasonably ordinary people who wanted to try a novel experience, rather than the tryhard media wannabes that we get now.

Adam Faithless (Adam Faithless), Saturday, 28 May 2005 11:26 (twenty years ago)

BEST BIG BROTHER EVER!!!

(I just noticed no one seemed to have said that yet.) I'm catching up via E4 repeats - I was watching the wrestling last night. I like Science, Kemal, Makosi and Mary, except I suspect she might prove much duller than the initial image after a bit. Derek will be good value, much as I dislike some things, obviously (I mean, black AND gay!). I dislike several, but it's very early days.

Makosi is a terrible unlucky 13th, as she is too dumb and affable for it to be a contest or good entertainment.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 28 May 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm hooked already, although I agree with the sentiment that there really is no-one to root for this year. Actually, come to think about it, last year was pretty much the same.

The alpha female scrap looks to be the best entertainment - with Lesley being the obvious loser - Did anyone see how she was floppingly eager to wap out her breasts but then screamed for a dressing gown so no-one would see her belly? The way people just walked away from her exhibitionism was the first proper cringe moment of what looks like many to come.

The audition tapes seemed to be a bunch of obvious fronts, I doubt many of them will bear much resemblance to what they're like. Most of the comedy ones they showed of people who didn't get through looked utterly awesome - especially the eat-my-hat dude and the old guy.

Predictions - lots of snogging but no coitus, no brawls but some hair-pulling cattery, a few tremendous rows and an ocean of tears at least once a day. Looking good.

On one hand I've got myself to blame (Lynskey), Saturday, 28 May 2005 11:55 (twenty years ago)

The stuff re: Derek and alleged paedophilia. I've just searched google, and there's only two references, neither of which in any way has any proof attached. This is not all over the internet, there are no traces of it really. I mean, think of the amount of damages he could get for libel and character assassination if they did publish. And without the evidence, and I mean hard culpability, there's no way any of the press would touch this, although things about links in South Africa in the 1980's might emerge soon.

Naughty science.

Oh, and that unlucky 13th person thing was utterly pointless. Makosi doesn't have to get the house to hate her, she'll get the sympathy vote from the public just for being up for nomination in a 'cruel' fashion. It's some kind of morality test isn't it?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 28 May 2005 15:39 (twenty years ago)

I am amazed at how many people like Mary. She is embarassingly idiotic. There are way too many thickos this year, there is nothing entertaining about watching people so stupid they can barely string a sentence together. Science and Derek can stay, the rest must be evicted NOW. Especially Sam.

I hope that I warm to at least someone, but I really don't see it happening.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 28 May 2005 18:52 (twenty years ago)

It is a very young house this year. About half of them seem to be under 20. The youngest housemates are almost always the least interesting. This house is just not balanced enough.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

Kamal is very annoying, but I really like his face.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Listening to Mary in the diary room, I think she's actually the person I'd like the most if I knew them. Even if she does has scary eyes.

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:28 (twenty years ago)

Disgusting.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

ach, she's ok actually. her and science i like. the rest really should be shovelled into an enormous pit and covered with molten lead, for the benefit of society at large.

especially lesley. not enough lesley-hate going on round here for my liking.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:35 (twenty years ago)

Lesley's just your average tacky nightclub slag, really.

I did like Derek's reaction when he met her: "You're from ... " (in slightly distasteful voice) "Yorkshire?"

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I can't see me liking any of these people, though perhaps Science will prove to be less annoying than the rest of them (haha, I will be proven wrong BY SCIENCE, do you see?).

Perhaps they will all get kicked out and replaced with better ones.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

What a bunch of tarty, dull, stupid and horrible people. Roberto seems OK too, I hope his heading to bed was as a result of that three-way snogging incident.

Do people really behave like that? Also if I just met a stranger that I was going to be stuck with for a few weeks, my opening gambit probably wouldn't be to query the authenticity of her breasts then invite everyone else to do the same.

I am going to HATE Lesley.

Makosi is a bit dippy, isn't she?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

A bit?

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:47 (twenty years ago)

She seems endearingly dippy than stupid and shallow though, which is sort of OK I think.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Ok, I take it all back, it IS funny to laugh at stupid people and this is hilarious!

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:56 (twenty years ago)

Relatively speaking, I mean. I hated Helen who was the epitome of dippy, but she would be great this year compared to Lesley and Vanessa.

(xpost to myself)

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:57 (twenty years ago)

who was snogging?

yes, young

3 are 19 (vanessa, lesley (who seems older, in a bad way) and someone else, oh, kamal? only 3 over 30 (mary, roberto and derek). the others are 20-24, really, I think.

too young.

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 28 May 2005 19:58 (twenty years ago)

On the Livestream, Science just shouted "I don't wank cause I'm a black Jew!"

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

! did he explain why he did wank?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

Haha.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

Wasa just half-watching the live feed. They seemed to be talking about sex and "brown patches". I'm not sure I want to whole-watch.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Now they are talking about rimming. Filthiest BB ever? I don't think I understand what the brown patches bit was about.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

Lookey-likey roffleness

Oh, I can't remember who was snogging as I can't even remember who's who yet. Vanessa was involved though, plus one other girl and a guy. It was a bit weird, all three of them simultaneously snogging. I wouldn't have thought that would be pleasant or even properly feasible, trying to kiss two people at once - it's a whole extra nose each to try and avoid crashing into.

I'm watching E4 just now. There is spanking going on, and a lot of aeroplane-noises-in-lieu-of-conversation. Max and Sam are in the other room and look bored stiff.

"Can I ask you a personal question, after they had licked your arse did you kiss it" - cue more aeroplane noises. Kids today, eh?

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:47 (twenty years ago)

They seemed to be talking about sex and "brown patches".

And things their roommates do on their couches?

caitlin (caitlin), Saturday, 28 May 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Behrooooz!

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

I have stopped watching now, it is boring.

I can't remember why Roberto was on my hit list yesterday. I suppose he is OK. I think it was just exasperation at the inevitable sexual boasts (he never goes for longer than 2 weeks without sex).

Sam looks prettier than yesterday. I suppose I do fancy her.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

please, let us not call maxwell "max".

RJG (RJG), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:07 (twenty years ago)

Kemal is very pretty.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:12 (twenty years ago)

Ailsa, it is perfectly possible for three people to kiss, but it limits your movements enough that it's not terribly interesting to do it for long. (I realise I have become predictable...)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

I should have known. Is't Maxwell just called Max, I thought I heard that on BBLB today?

Martin, I realise it's perfectly possible (I saw it happen on national TV), I just think it looks silly and not enjoyable.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:33 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, badly edited and unfinished post. That "I should have known" was about something else that I took about because it was silly.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I think a fight is about to break out...

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:37 (twenty years ago)

i'm drinking red wine and watching "ferris bueller's day off" on DVD. i'm now relying on this thread to keep me informed about BB for the next however-many weeks. please god, let the fight involve max(well) and derek sustaining severe testicular injuries.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:53 (twenty years ago)

Max(well)'s mate was on BBLB and said "What's all this 'Maxwell' - he's called Max".

But he can be Maxwell if RJG prefers.

I am drinking gin & tonics and watching Lost on DVD-R.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Sam could be very pretty, but her hair is badly cut and styled and doesn't show her best features anywhere near enough (/bitch)

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:56 (twenty years ago)

Oh, I liked her hair.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Fair enough, I just think it should be longer and luscious.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:00 (twenty years ago)

I am drinking red wine and not watching A Fistful of Dynamite (but my husband is) and I would much rather be watching either Big Brother or Ferris Bueller.

I think Sam is pretty, but that's not going to make me like her. Lesley is a wobbly fat old minger. I have no problem with wobbly people (I am one myself) but I do when they squeeze themselves into wee things that don't fit properly therefore looking like slappers with wobbly bits on extra display. Then try to kid on that they are thin.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

HILARIOUS!

Kemal and Science's argument was just better than the whole of BB5. I hope they are in it til the end.

Sam is rank.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Science is "trying it" on the web stream at the moment, "from da hood" he insists.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

Also PVC nurses uniform = worst thing ever that wasn't Jason's thong this time last year

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:04 (twenty years ago)

What was the Kemal/Science argument?

I am drinking orange squash and watching what is allegedly USA vs England, but it's about USA B vs England C really.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

Saskia and Sam getting on well.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

Craig is the new Marco, ghastly in every way. CRAIG MUST GO!

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:08 (twenty years ago)

The Kemal/Science 'debate' was about whether or not Science is from the hood and whether or not Kemal is a she-male. The best bit was them insisting that they really liked each other in between calling each other pricks and screaming. Also:

Science: I am not pissed off about this. Well, I was pissed of about the salad cream earlier but that's over.
Kemal: Well, I don't know anything about the salad cream issue.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:11 (twenty years ago)

At first I thought, oh no, Kemal is just going to be Marco 2, but actually he is brilliant.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:13 (twenty years ago)

Now they're arguing about destiny and predestination.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Everyone needs to be watching this.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

Well I haven't really seen him since his annoying entrance, other than to note than he does have a good face. I'm looking forward to seeing this salad cream issue fight.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

OK, I will watch. Lost has frozen on me anyway.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:15 (twenty years ago)

yeah, I love his face.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:16 (twenty years ago)

I have been tricked. I just turned on and there was no fight. Just Mary and Roberto talking about hens and the sea.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

I suppose I could wait for it to come around on E4+1.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:18 (twenty years ago)

This is not the way I hoped Saturday nights would turn out.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

It'll switch back soon.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:19 (twenty years ago)

I've just realised that Kemal sounds just like a (female) friend of Lauren's. I like the voice better on her. Perhaps I am a homophobe after all!

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:32 (twenty years ago)

Kemal and Makosi are trying to light a cigarette on an electric hob. I am amazed, but i am really finding Kemal quite attractive.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:33 (twenty years ago)

Cathy, stop it now.

I am losing track.

Anthony, Makosi, Mary, Maxwell, Roberto, Saskia and Science are all straight, yes?

Of the rest, who is bi and who is exclusively gay?

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

No one except Derek is exclusively gay, I think.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:40 (twenty years ago)

OK, I have now watched the good-natured argument about whether Science is from the hood on E4+1.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 22:50 (twenty years ago)

we're now watching ferris bueller's again, only with john hughes's commentary. this is exactly the way i hoped saturday nights would turn out.

surely craig is exclusively gay?

what i don't understand is: he's a hairdresser. so how come he looks like his mum cut his hair with a wonky pudding bowl?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

There's something very only gay in the village about Craig.

Thoughts on watching +1hr feed just now:

I still fancy Sam, though her make-up always seems to look like she's slept in it.

I don't think Saskia is going to last long.

Anthony has gone up in my estimation.

I feel a strange warmth towards Vanessa.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:12 (twenty years ago)

Also, I have this feeling that there's some illness inside Sam. This is possibly a misogynist reaction to her boasts about her sexual appetite.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:14 (twenty years ago)

Sam repulses me the most out of all of them. Perhaps I will never get over her "well I'm a feminist but I don't know I'm also a bit of an egalitarian" comment. Plus she keeps thrusting her arse in everyone's face. And she is walking around in underwear and high heels! And she thought Christina Aguilera was a feminist icon!

Craig said earlier he has never had sex with a man and isn't into labels like 'gay'.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:20 (twenty years ago)

Craig said earlier he has never had sex with a man and isn't into labels like 'gay'.

I had the idea whilst out earlier that Craig is going to be on this for the next two months, with everybody thinking that he's a 'proper queer' and right towards the end he's going to say something silly like Brett Anderson's "bisexual man who's never had a homosexual appearance" quote.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:26 (twenty years ago)

but I don't know I'm also a bit of an egalitarian

"Equalitarian", surely?

I would just like to clarify that I hope Sam is not ill.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:27 (twenty years ago)

Did she say equalitarian? Oh my gosh.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Well that's what I heard.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:29 (twenty years ago)

Confirmation, of sorts

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

How very ridiculous. She has had a boob job according to the Channel 4 website. This is a house of huge boob rivalry.

Cathy (Cathy), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:37 (twenty years ago)

Hers aren't really huge, but you are right about the general boobiness. Better faces, smaller boobs demands this disgruntled viewer.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:44 (twenty years ago)

Well, they don't have to have smaller boobs. I don't think these things have to be a trade-off. Though Saskia really could do with smaller boobs. They are kind of ridiculous.

Makosi's bum is great.

Alba (Alba), Saturday, 28 May 2005 23:46 (twenty years ago)

They were discussing boobs earlier, and ranking the girls in order of boobiness. Leslee seems to be outraged about Saskia infringing on her big-boob territory.

Still love Kemal.

Cathy (Cathy), Sunday, 29 May 2005 00:06 (twenty years ago)

Pace yourselves dudes, we've got three months of BB!

She did say equalitarian.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 29 May 2005 07:53 (twenty years ago)

I think I'll wait until next week and start watching it then. For one thing, they're all acting a bit like dogs in a new situation, mounting each other and growling, and that'll calm down after a while. For another, if anything interesting happens this week it will be repeated a million times over the next eleven weeks or so.

Oh yeah, jel's right. She did say equalitarian. I shouted at her.

accentmonkey (accentmonkey), Sunday, 29 May 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

The Sunday Mail has all their surnames today. Science apparently goes by the name of "Science the Great".

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 29 May 2005 10:11 (twenty years ago)

The one thing BB highlights every single year without fail is the extent to which women despise each other. Hello Lesley's shrieking, jealous attack on Sam last night when her ridiculous efforts to court every male's attention failed and the boys, unsurprisingly, decided they preferred Sam.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Sunday, 29 May 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

It's the same as The Apprentice in that regard, the women take against each other immediately, while the men collaborate for mutual benfit until it really matters.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 10:51 (twenty years ago)

I think this is rubbish. The only reason the women aren't hanging out with each other so much is because there are so many gay men to play with.

Also, the biggest argument so far has been between Science and Kemal, hasn't it?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 11:25 (twenty years ago)

That's true, but a common theme in BB has been female backstabbing - All of the women vs each other in BB 4,Michelle and Vanessa in BB 5, Saskia and Lesley in BB6.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

Making any generalisations about human behaviour from the people who end up on BB seems, at best, unwise.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 May 2005 11:47 (twenty years ago)

Still not watched this since the initial hour. I recall thinking Sam was shaggable if she had a brain/ personality but she has neither and - thus - her sex appeal is kinda cancelled out. You'd do her and then just want to get as far away as possible from her but she is the token eye candy I guess.

Still disgusted that former polys let these dumb tarts in to get Mickey Mouse degrees.

To be honest, they are all cunts - just like on previous BB's. It is media whoredom at its worst and SHOULD NOT BE ENCOURAGED.

I pity those whose lives are so empty that they need this gash on their box.

Film_Frank, Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:03 (twenty years ago)

I love being pitied. Pity is the 21st century's most underrated emotion.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:07 (twenty years ago)

Adrian, there are loads of men who have had personality clashes too - I don't see why they don't count as backstabbing if Saskia and Lesley's animosity does (can you backstab someone you've only just met?)

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:09 (twenty years ago)

yes, but it's frowned upon.

jel -- (jel), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha.

Anyway yeah, I guess my terrific bit of gender politics is: men fighting with each other is maybe seen as a bit of fun, the natural order of things. Whereas women fighting with each other is thought to be indicative of devious, seething agendas, who knows what else they've got up their sleeves etc.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:17 (twenty years ago)

I see what you mean, but the animosity in large female groups on BB, and in other TV situations where women are forced to be competitive with one another (hence Apprentice)- I find that quite pronounced, and something worth keeping an eye on.

It seems to be more prevelent amongst groups of women on these shows, that's my point, and I feel this is not necessarily due to how the viewers interpret the interactions.

Bearing in mind the Saskia/Lesley stuff is in a nascent stage, I think in the cases I mentioned the animosity goes deeper than personality clashes, onto things like attractiveness, popularity etc. I'm not saying all women on BB are like that, just that plenty are.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

according to the news of the screws today, "lesley was a real bitch at school". wow, i'd never have imagined.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

not just in BB - women in general hate on other women. BB votes are predominantly by girls - girls always get voted out of BB first. Cos they're "OMG so shallow and playing a game and false and etc etc" (meaning: pretty and popular with boys, yawn). Yeah, the fag hags will vote out Sam and Saskia as soon as poss.
Boys don't vote out boys cos they're good looking. Doesn't happen

charlie darling, Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

He's good, N is.

When is this on tonight?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:24 (twenty years ago)

One of the reasons I started watching BB, season before last, is the quality of the comments on ILX about it. This time I'm already thinking of giving up.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:38 (twenty years ago)

Keep the faith, Martin!

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:51 (twenty years ago)

When is this on tonight?

9pm, I think

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 29 May 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Kemal is amazing.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:30 (twenty years ago)

It's the same as The Apprentice in that regard, the women take against each other immediately, while the men collaborate for mutual benfit until it really matters.

Half an hour into today's episode and this is proving to be nonsense of the highest order.

All my initial impressions seem to have been wrong. I like Makosi, and Maxwell is clearly a cunt after all. And someone strangle Kamal please. "I think *I'm* the most mature person in here, along with... some of the others."

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:32 (twenty years ago)

And Maxwell is a twat.
(xpost)

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

Mary is a goth = I definitely want her to win.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Don't you mean a gothic?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

So far I want Derek to win. Tory or not, his poem at the start of the programme was fantastic. He'll have a hilarious foppish TV double-act with Boris Johnson before the year is out.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

That gothic conversation ruled.

Derek's poem had a good rhythm and delivery, but the words themselves were a loads of crap.

I like Makosi, but was that crying thing in the diary room a joke? If now she's got the most hilariously fake-looking upset face I've ever seen.

I hate that it's only Day 2 and already we've had the "I might argue with you but I respect you for that more than the people who've stayed in the background" nonsense. A flipside of the whole "I'd rather someone hated me than that they weren't bothered one way or the other" thing.

What makes wankers like Maxwell hate quiet people so much? Is it that they worry that silence = contempt?

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Did Science really just say "power to the people"?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Sam's crooked teeth are annoying me. And I was wrong about her hair.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Makosi reminds me of my year away. Not necessarily in a good way.

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:04 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell's schick is excessively tiresome on the live stream. Does he ever do anything apart from being a caricature of a geezer? Seems to be very little depth to him.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

the biggest argument so far has been between Science and Kemal, hasn't it?

You didn't see Lesley make a cunt of herself screaming at Sam I take it? What an obnoxious fucking beast.

I liking Maxwell more and more. He hasn't been wrong yet.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

Are they going to carry on bullying Makosi like this past the first week? If so, they might as well just give her the prize money now.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

The thing about Makosi is that her way of annoying people to get the nominations seems too close to the real her - like she's drawing on what she knows her bad side is. I suppose that's the easiest way to do it, but it means people will find it hard to put the memory of it away once she (one hopes) can reveal to the others what she was doing this week.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

i'm not so sure. these people are so stupid i'm surprised they can remember how to breathe.

i was wrong about science. he's a knob. luckily for him (and indeed everybody else), the presence of max(well) and lesley has created an enormous swirling vortex of utter bastardry that effectively negates anyone else's character flaws.

i hate these people. and i hate myself for watching them :0

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:20 (twenty years ago)

i hate you for hating yourself for watching them :l

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Good for MARY btw.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

I don't think Maxwell is a bastard by design or anything, I just think he gives a one-note performance of geezerdom, and I'm not sure he has very much else to offer.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:27 (twenty years ago)

Mary, Derek, Roberto, Anthony, Saskia, Makosi - all of these seem like solid, good-natured people to me.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

I'm scared of actually watching this properly in that I will be sorely dissapointed it won't be anywhere near as good as last year.

from what I have seen though there seems to be an awful lot of sound cut offs this time.

Ste (Fuzzy), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

x-post: derek's politics are hardly geared towards good nature. and i'm not forgiving saskia for the "i'm not racist, but ..." stuff.

mary's ok, yes, and i might grudgingly admit that makosi is potentially all right. roberto might as well not exist. anthony has surprised me by being far, far less of a tool than i feared.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:32 (twenty years ago)

Aw, that's cruel!

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 29 May 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

i love the way the new diary room chair makes them all look like dennis waterman in little britain.

daytime e4 coverage is great ambient tv. watched them get all the firedoors pointed out to them yesterday and the portrait painting today. (fucking frog advert 3 times every break is wearing me down though)

Scary Mary to win, obv. that said, she's not half as weird now she's ditched the gandalf cloak.

koogs (koogs), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:41 (twenty years ago)

The thing about Makosi is that her way of annoying people to get the nominations seems too close to the real her - like she's drawing on what she knows her bad side is.

haha did you see her sister on BBLB? Dermot was all like, she'll probably find it hard to get people to hate her. And the sister was like, oooohhhh she can do that just fine. I hope she doesn't leave too early, I want to see more of the mad Xtian stuff.

I thought Science would be cool, and I thought Kemal would be even more annoying than Marco. I was wrong on both counts. Kemal is actually rather funny (relative of course) and Science needs his head bashed in post-haste. After Maxwell of course.

I don't know why people always leap on the fact that the girls tend to be suspicious of each other in a way that the blokes generally aren't - they might not be uniting in a gang but they're not allying themselves with the blokes either. The girls seem to form individual alliances, usually with a gayer but sometimes with another girl. Obviously none of this applies to Lesley as she is deeply fucked up and noxious.

How and why have I managed to think all that despite not watching it since Friday? gah.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

I think this thread does need to remember how great Victor and Jason's late night chats were last year. Because the rest of the house got to bed before them, Channel 4 was forced to show whatever conversations the two were having around week 7/8. One night just had two minutes of silence and huffing, before Victor goes: "The internet. What's all that about then?"

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:47 (twenty years ago)

OTM. I'm not sure how I'm going to cope without Victor this time around. Please tell me he's writing a column for the Sun or something this year.

Allegiance-wise, this BB is falling down exactly the same lines as the previous one. Alpha male types + girls they fancy on one side, younger gayers + other girls one the other, in the middle/diplomatic types (Roberto/Mary = Dan/Shell), older bloke who doesn't seem to fit in anywhere (Derek = Ahmed).

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 21:57 (twenty years ago)

Yeah - I noticed that too. This year I am much more fond of the 'hareem' though. Marco and for large sections of the show, Nadia, did my fucking head in. Kemal is a throwback to the good, funny and intelligent camp days of Brian.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:02 (twenty years ago)

The gameplaying is the only thing that seems to be keeping Makosi interesting. She seems a bit dizzy in the diary room. Having to have the rules of her task spelled out twice? Wakey wakey.

Derek, Alberto and Saskia seem nice enough.

Mary is a complete flake but somehow not as much away-with-the-fairies flake as she initially suggested. Her 'witchy' 'spiritualism' and what-have-you is actually just a bit learnt-from-Sabrina the Teenage Witch level and not much more. It's a front for her massive, myriad insecurities which are revealed when she decides to, for instance, shower fully clothed. She shouldn't be on this show.

Science: just a complete twit. His incessant loud babbling and sub-Victor frontin' is skull-achingly tiresome. Already.

Craig: seems to have based his whole existance in the image of that camp brummie off The Salon. His in-your-face bitchiness has been a bit toothless so far.

Sam: nice eyes, great arse, fantastic legs and, er, that's it. Zoo and Nuts are going to make her quite a lot of money. And if she wears those hot pants and stilettos I'm not going to be complaining too much.

Lesley: completely obnoxious.

Kemal: harmless fag-hag fodder.

Vanessa: like Craig her intentions to be the shallowest, loudest, omigod gossipyist bitch like ever am I bovvered though? has been undermined by too-strong competition (ie: Lesley). A non-entity.

Maxwell: "Ello! My name's Maxwell and I'm a law abider! Good bloke fairly, but I get well lairy when geezers look at me funny - bounce 'em around like bunnies".
At the moment he's an indispensible antidote to all the flakey dipshits. As a result, he's prob my fave at the minute.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Victor was BORING last year! We need no reminders of him.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:07 (twenty years ago)

Victor was ace, more like him please.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Victor was entertaining for a bit, really nasty at times and boring when he was playing up to his image for the cameras too much.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

It's the versatility which made him interesting, hence ace as a contestant.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

versatility?! Victor was about as one-note as BB contestants get which is saying something.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

It was his malcontents double-act with Jason that was the really funny thing to watch - not all the shizzle-my-nizzle stuff.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 22:59 (twenty years ago)

the fact that they were pissed off was amusing but not entertaining - in practice it was just the two of them in bed moaning.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:04 (twenty years ago)

No, but I always got the sense with Victor that he was a rounded person - flawed, yes, but rounded. We saw humour, diary-room stuff, his friendship with Jason, as well as the less pleasant side of Victor, the ranting and petulance. But I still think there's no one who's comparable in BB6 as of yet to him, but it's early days.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:07 (twenty years ago)

I think I just enjoyed the fact that Jason and Victor were so pissed off. Actually there were shades of it today with Maxwell getting cross when he thought everyone was laughing at him from the loft. Maybe it's just the pleasure at seeing masculine blokes feeling persecuted by a gang of girly boys and girls.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:08 (twenty years ago)

I think Science wants to be Victor, or at least appeal to a similar demographic, but doesn't realise how to do it as of yet.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Science is so sweet compared with Victor. He was all apologetic and "I don't want to offend anyone" even his fury in the diary room. He's very wound up and shouty but completely lacks the aggression of Victor. I don't really think they're comparable at all.

Alba (Alba), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

If I was Science I'd have got fucked off with Kemal as well, he came across as a condescending little shitbag.

There was an element of watching tonight's episode that reminded me of being at school. I think it was the bit when Science and Kemal were trying out-dickwave one another and Science was all "he doesn't know what a freestyle is!" while everyone else was cackling behind them.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 29 May 2005 23:19 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell has girlish hands. It said he is a maintenance engineer ... Maintenance engineer of what? Lego models?

fields of salmon (fieldsofsalmon), Monday, 30 May 2005 05:34 (twenty years ago)

Nah, lego models can make your hands pretty sore.

caitlin (caitlin), Monday, 30 May 2005 05:55 (twenty years ago)

Roberto will crack and be this year's Ahmed.

Victor was great last year.

I haven't watched since Friday.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 30 May 2005 07:05 (twenty years ago)

it's slightly disturbing that science doesn't seem to need to breathe at any point, he just babbles VERY LOUDLY for minutes on end. he seems to be the least mature of the lot of them, in terms of being able to fend for himself (eg fishfingers and salad cream as staple diet requirements)...

every time maxwell comes on the live feed they dip the sound, i'm assuming this is because every third word is fuck...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 30 May 2005 10:12 (twenty years ago)

If I was Science I'd have got fucked off with Kemal as well, he came across as a condescending little shitbag.

but Matt, condescending is kind of the default option for anyone trying to communicate with Science! How could you NOT condescend?

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 30 May 2005 10:31 (twenty years ago)

I think Science is closer to Ahmed than Victor. Suddenly getting disproportionately angry at the flick of a switch when he doesn't get his own salad cream way, and going on and on about it and being stubborn about it all.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Monday, 30 May 2005 10:46 (twenty years ago)

science's "gimme a freestyle" part was a naughty bit of nonsense.

cozen (Cozen), Monday, 30 May 2005 11:17 (twenty years ago)

every time maxwell comes on the live feed they dip the sound, i'm assuming this is because every third word is fuck

no, it's because his very existence is enough to cause offence.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 11:30 (twenty years ago)

maxwell is a big fanny.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 30 May 2005 12:49 (twenty years ago)

science is a big fanny

RJG (RJG), Monday, 30 May 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

I think Science is closer to Ahmed than Victor.

Science is definitely the one I see most likely to break, go mental and chuck plates about when the others do something really tiny that pisses him off.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Monday, 30 May 2005 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Reports suggest Mary has been doing some excellent freestyle rapping.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 May 2005 15:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm quite glad that this seems like it's going to be rubbish this year. there's not a single character to hold your attention and they mostly seem like watered down versions of previous year people. also, 13 weeks! thats a quarter of a year Big Bro is on for now which is quite ridiculous.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:27 (twenty years ago)

I like the concept of watered down people.

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

The show always seems boring to me, at first. By the end I am ravenous for that reality action. I am sad to be missing the boring part.

Ally C (Ally C), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Derek is Camilla Parker-Bowles's buddy!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

of all the stories out there about derek, that ain't the most interesting (see upthread).

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Continuing the theme of guilt-by-association, does this mean Prince Charles is a paedophile?

Alba (Alba), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:55 (twenty years ago)

it means EVERYONE CALLED CHARLES IS...oh, wait.

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Monday, 30 May 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

max(well) has taken to calling derek "del boy".

max(well) needs to undergo some severe testicular trauma.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Derek is fantastic. an eccentric. Maxwell disgusting yes, tonight, "let me finish DAR-LING" ugh.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 30 May 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

Derek really is growing on me.

Mary needs to do more in order for her to remain my favourite/current MSN display picture.

Kemal OTM re Anthony ("He's attractive. And that's it. That's his plan for the show").

Maxwell is horrendous.

Has Vanessa done anything yet?

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:01 (twenty years ago)

Kemal is far sharper than any of his über-camp fag predecessors, isn't he?

Roberto is growing on me, he seems genuinely nice.

Makosi is really bad at playing her game. I still like her but wish she wasn't the unlucky one, she'd be more entertaining if her small brain didn't have to cope with an ongoing task all the time.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Considering Kemal's previous competition is the truly odious Marco and Brian "Brian's Boyfriends" Dowling, it's not much of a competition. But he sonned Science in their argument last night, and if he can manage a good bitch in the diary room every couple of days, that'll be entertainment enough for me.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

The Sun has apparently discovered that Max(well) has been involved at the rehearsal stage in both BB last year and the Farm this year. Both Endemol productions, amidst rumours of a mole. Surely nobody is that vile if it isn't an act?

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:28 (twenty years ago)

well, you'd hope not. but ...

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:32 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell hasn't actually been as vile as I expected (I fully expect that this is because I haven't seen it rather than because he hasn't done it). Actually, this is something of a recurring theme - none of them apart from Lesley are quite as cuntish as I thought they'd be from their audition tapes, which isn't to say that they're not still vile. Lesley is truly in some other realm of odiousness.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:34 (twenty years ago)

I enjoyed Craig's crying fit at realising he was totally out of his league today.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:38 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't it really obviously manipulative though? It didn't seem very real. I loved the way Makosi completely forgot about her plan and went to comfort him, and Roberto awwww.

The Lex (The Lex), Monday, 30 May 2005 21:42 (twenty years ago)

The Sun has apparently discovered that Max(well) has been involved at the rehearsal stage in both BB last year and the Farm this year

and, thinking about it, surely spiky-haired faux-geezers like that are ten a penny in the endemol offices. it probably wasn't max(well), just a max(well) lite.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

Isn't The Farm just for "celebs" (total Z listers admittedly, but not just folks off the street)? One of Max(well)'s friends blabbed that he was on the reserve list for last year's Big Brother.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:12 (twenty years ago)

yeh: i assumed that if max(well) was at the rehearsal, it meant he was in some way employed by/connected to endemol.

is this in today's (tuesday) or yesterday's sun?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:14 (twenty years ago)

He is a horribly bad singer, as is being proved on E4 just now.

ailsa (ailsa), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:21 (twenty years ago)

I find almost all of them likable! Anthony and Sam are ludicrously attractive, Kemal is quite bearable, Mary isn't pulling her weight but is full of mad wiccan potential, Derek will save the Conversative Party and plausibly surge to its leadership if he comes out before they elect someone, Makosi seems like a really good human, etc...

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:29 (twenty years ago)

I disagree

RJG (RJG), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:38 (twenty years ago)

Famously.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Monday, 30 May 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

Ugh, Craig is whining at Vanessa and Lesley right now about Max (who has called Craig a 'poof', oh no, what a deadly insult), Saskia (?) and how Makosi called him a 'wanker'.

He's such a horrible person, I really hope his friends in the real world are watching and realise that he probably talks about them all behind their backs in the same way.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 00:35 (twenty years ago)

I like makosi's bum.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

she has big eyes.

cozen (Cozen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 06:19 (twenty years ago)

Is bum feminine, in French?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:14 (twenty years ago)

Makosi had her period and was seen naked, but I didn't glimpse a blue thread. And I know that's a gross thing to be looking out for. Sorry.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:17 (twenty years ago)

yes! (xpost)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:17 (twenty years ago)

Are you suggesting she was faking it, Madchen.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:18 (twenty years ago)

Not necessarily.

Madchen (Madchen), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:24 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps she uses a Moon Cup

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

it's great.

"You see, Sam is why we need to knock down Oxbridge and build a bunch of council estates over them.

BROOKES PEOPLE

N_RQ, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:37 (twenty years ago)

Vanessa is the black children's TV presenter-ish one who hangs around with Craig and Kemal and smiles sweetly a lot.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)

Well we shouldn't knock down either. Knock down some council estates instead, if the likes of Maxwell and Craig and Lesley are the best they can produce.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Favourite Vanessa moment so far: her earnestly asking Mary for the definition of "a gothic".

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 07:43 (twenty years ago)

Suffering from a bout of insomnia, I ended up watching the live feed for almost two hours last night. Craig spent virtually all of this time engaged in one big whinge/bitch fest. He must go.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 08:08 (twenty years ago)

so far kemal is pissing me off the most, but none of them are really engaging me. maybe mary, who i think is the steeliest of the lot.

N_RQ, Tuesday, 31 May 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Was Craig's bitchfest entertaining at all?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 08:10 (twenty years ago)

Not in the slightest.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 08:38 (twenty years ago)

Craig is a dismal excuse for a human being.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 09:04 (twenty years ago)

it's all very camp this year, like they took marco as the template for half the male housemates. and bubble as the template for the other half.

science is as about as ghetto as i am.

have we seen gnome-cam in action yet?

and the thing with makosi and the keys, the correct one being the last out of 160 she tried, was there a trick to it?

koogs (koogs), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 09:07 (twenty years ago)

I was wondering that too: was there really some sort of radio-control release so they could make sure that she would have to try every one?

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:16 (twenty years ago)

that's what i figured. the real star of the show, like last year, imho, will be big brother and the pranks he pulls.

i nearly pissed myself when he said to Makosi, "Unlucky."
so deadpan. so perfect.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:21 (twenty years ago)

Funny that a lot of Craig's hysterical bitching last night was targeted almost exclusively against Makosi and Kemal, like their presence has robbed him the position of being the biggest look-at-me-look-at-me dwama queen.

Maxwell also had "the 'ump" cos Sam kissed Ant, he was saying "I was hopin' there wuz gonna be some fit birds in 'ere"
Someone: "and is there?"
Max: "... nahhh... ".
All he wants is birds, beer and football. Why didn't he just go down the pub instead of on BB?

David Merryweather (DavidM), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:22 (twenty years ago)

in the pub he only THINKS everyone is watching him.
on BB, everyone actually is.

g-kit (g-kit), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:40 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell has made it clear to Anthony that he fancies Sam (when sat on the couches, with Vanessa). Which makes it even better that Sam has said she is attracted to (the rather likeable imo) Anthony, and they'll undoubtedly get together - meaning millions of people can watch the repulsive 'cockney geezah' squirm and desperately try to pretend that he "ain't bovvered, not one bit bruv".

It's a bit sad how there isn't one genuinely likeable female, just a whole bunch of 'other girls hate me!' alpha femmes. Mary just seems *damaged* (I give it three weeks until she suffers an enormous breakdown and spits out some uncomfortable revelations for the BB producers). I realised I could never like her after watching her nod eagerly at Makosi's toe-curling "You're a very spiritual person... you don't look like a quitter..." drivel.

I'm astonished by all the Science-love above, he's no more than an obnoxious brat who does that hateful argument technique of IF I SHOUT THEN I WILL BE PROVED RIGHT. And that "Pfft, he doesn't know what a freestyle is," comment was possibly the lowest BB moment yet.

Kamel to win, Craig to be a post-eviction suicide.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

Mary just seems *damaged* (I give it three weeks until she suffers an enormous breakdown and spits out some uncomfortable revelations for the BB producers).

I noticed that this year they have been stressing that all the contestants have been thoroughly tested by psychologists. I *think* they also said that some potential contestants were weeded out by this.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 10:57 (twenty years ago)

For being well-balanced.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:01 (twenty years ago)

Maybe they cut corners so they could get a headline-friendly wicca witch in, because it really doesn't seem like Mary is coping with it too well.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

i'm shamefully addicted, for the first time. i was going to buy the people and the news of the world yesterday so that i could find out about sam's kinky sex shame and bunny-boiler tendencies and how the drink-driving tory nearly killed us all (yes - ALL), but i got dragged out of the shop. so, if anyone has the lowdown then please share.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:08 (twenty years ago)

What do tabloid papers think is so shameful about *kinky* sex?

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:10 (twenty years ago)

and one of the papers also promised to reveal the REAL reason why roberto had to stop teaching. i'm really regretting now that i allowed good taste to sway my paper-purchasing habits.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:14 (twenty years ago)

From what I can remember, the article stated that Roberto punched a pupil. There was an investigation into it but Roberto resigned before it was completed. Back in BBland, his bizarre Italo-Barnsley accent cracks me up but I hope he leaves soon as he's too dense and well-meaning for any true entertainment.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

but the lady viewers love him, apparently.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:19 (twenty years ago)

the article stated that Roberto punched a pupil

hurrah. roberto to win.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:20 (twenty years ago)

"apparently"

xp

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Oh and Sam likes to have sex. Her first boyfriend did a kiss and tell, revealing that she refused to strip naked for him, complaining that she had a spotty back. However, The Truth was that she had had a boob job and once this was revealed they began to boff for England and they both had lots of orgasms and cum lots of times [(c) M. Carlish].

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

I think Lauren was just paraphrasing. They don't actually say it's shameful as such:

http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/story_pages/showbiz/showbiz1.shtml

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:22 (twenty years ago)

btw, I thought Makosi making the effort with Mary was quite sweet, rather than "toe-curling".

It's easy to mock the content of any confidence-boosting talk, but that's what often makes people not say anything at all, which is usually worse.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:23 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the intention was sweet, and I suppose it did the job but what can I say.. I watched, my toes curled, the end.

Affectian (Affectian), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:29 (twenty years ago)

Peak of passion there, marvellous. Dearie me, Sam can just fuck right off.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:31 (twenty years ago)

actually, the people or whatever it's called did have KINKY SEX SHAME emblazoned on the cover.

the real shame, though, is vanessa's two-tone hair. UGLY AS SIN!

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:32 (twenty years ago)

I'm never sure why people buy the People.

Yeah the intention was sweet, and I suppose it did the job but what can I say.. I watched, my toes curled, the end.

Don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool by making his world little colder, man?

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

I decided, years ago, that Big Brother is just like my university archaeology digs. It's with stupid people, on the telly, but there's really no difference at all.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:36 (twenty years ago)

alba, i like that!

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

The Italian dude came out of helping Craig very well, he was the only one who got him to stop blubbing and also he seemed very good at giving advice, even if it was fake or him acting up for the cameras it was nonetheless quite impressive.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:38 (twenty years ago)

craig's reason for being so upset was that his plans for manipulating the others and playing people off against one another weren't working. i found that hilarious - in the preshow when he started going on about what a master manipulator and wreaker of havoc he was, i knew he was bush-league.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 11:41 (twenty years ago)

Oh and I objected more to the 'your aura is so very strong' content of Makosi's little pep-talk rather than the fact she did it. There are better ways to make someone feel better about themselves and the situation they're in - appealing to Mary's spiritual side would work in a sense but more pragmatic advice would serve her better. And sound less like bullshit.

From the footage of the discussions of the paintings, it looks like Sam is being portrayed as the megabitch of the house. But then, maybe she is - doing her fliptop spitelaugh when Saskia was described as having pretty features shocked me.

Well, obv, anyone who genuinely *is* a master-manuipulator isn't going to want to boast about it. Derek is almost certainly going to prove to be better than anyone at that, purely because of his job.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

Sam is GREAT. Until she opens her mouth (to speak or shriek with laughter for no apparent reason). It was depressingly obvious women would be furious with jealously with her, lo and behold, they are.
Saskia if prettier though - since she's had her hair done.

Mary is a complete flaky idiot. How anyone can stand her sub-Mystic Meg waffle is beyond my comprehension.

Kemal is the obvious winner. Voters are suckers for his kind of non-threatening gender-bendy shtick.

David Merryweather (DavidM), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Let's see:

Love Makose, but that might be mainly because she's gorgeous and has a great bum. (And because she's having a bit too much fun pissing everyone off)

Derek: Gay, black and Tory: How the hell does that work? Presumably the Toties keep him around so they can mock him behind his back and use him as a sign of their (fake) inclusivity. (Everyone in both minorities is denying all knowledge of him I expect). It's also obvious (to me, if no-one else) that he's out to try and "organise" the house on his lines with him in charge.

Vanessa: Harmless but transparent; hangs around with the pretty boys all day.

Science: I want to hurt him so badly. As a black man I feel he represents us in an even worse fashion than Derek does (or Victor did for that matter). Just the fact that he calls himself Science makes me grind my teeth.

Maxwell: The chirpy cockney shit has got real old in a real hurry. It shouldn't be an eviction, it should be an execution.

Interchangeable slapper with big tits: What's the point in hating them? (Although I do). They want their five minutes in Hello and they'll be happy and out of our hair.

Kemal: A bit too camp (and then some!) but probably raises the average IQ of the house a couple of points.

As for the rest of them. I haven't seen enough coverage yet to judge them as harshly as I expect they deserve.

Derek is to me what the Maestro is to the Incredible Hulk.

Sam is all bod and no brains. Unfortunately, I, too, like the bod.

Anthony is almost perfect for Sam. He has a very punchable face.

Science should get together with my psycho brother. They can get into an argument over whose musical greatness ineptitude services humanity the most lest, and then get into a case of the asshole murdering the shithead.

Mary is strangely compelling. Maxwell's a twunt. Kemal is fabulous, but silly. Vanessa needs a slap. Craig needs to nail his face to a bus.

What do the others do agin?

this caught my eye as well (probably because it was moving), the odds from Paddy Power:

Winner of Big Brother 2005

Scary Mary 7/1 (!)
Maxwell 9/1
Kemal 9/2
Makosi 9/1

Okay, your favorite "follow UKBB via the interweb" mentalist is back in full effect! I just scanned through the housemates' pictures on the Channel 4 site and I have to say that, first impressions-wise:

I FUCKING HATE THE FACT THAT SOMEONE NAMED "SCIENCE" IS ON THE SHOW, BEAT HIM WITH GIANT BATS MADE OF BATS.

The font on my computer makes "Sam" look like "Sau", tee hee.

Kemal is the frontrunner for the I'm Trying Too Fucking Hard prize.

Makosi must win because ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWR!

Hahahaha Mary is runner-up for the I'm Trying Too Fucking Hard prize but goths are funnier than scene queens because they're so fucking earnest.

Poor Vanessa, someday someone will tell you you're cute and you can then calm the fuck down.

Saskia must come in second because rowr.

A Wee Problem
Day 5, 13:00

A nasty surprise in the loo set tongues wagging in the garden. Does someone need a bit of potty training?

Apparently something brown and unsightly has been spotted on the House toilet seat, and to add to the situation, not everyone has been hitting the target when they've been producing a number one either.

The combined effect of this haphazard toilet behaviour is upsetting some of the more delicate Housemates.

"Someone has left poo poo on the toilet seat," a disgusted Science announced in the garden.

Sensitive Science thinks that anyone who leaves "skiddy bits" should clean up after themselves and that whoever fouled the seat should be made to wear a diaper.

The finger pointing started immediately. Makosi said that Roberto was actually the last person in the toilet. But Roberto claimed innocence and he knows that the culprit will be uncovered eventually.

"Here everything is filmed, so the one that is shitting on us will be named and shamed," he reminded Housemates.

"I did a shit, I flushed and I washed my hands," Anthony blurted out. Is that a confession?

"I don't poo so, it can't be me," Makosi claimed.

No wonder she seems a bit uptight!

The Ghost of BEST HOUSEMATE EVER (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 13:55 (twenty years ago)

I don't think Makosi really does "thinking strategies through". It's a pity that she is being made to.

Wouldn't the obvious way to get lots of nominations without also making everyone hate you and thus nominate you FOREVER just be to have an "I-want-to-leave" crisis plus tears? And then be nice, so everyone nominates you out of sympathy?

Sam continues to be repulsive. She told Maxwell she thought he would be 'great in bed', then got off with Anthony in front of everyone, then went in the diary room and said she thought she might want to shag the 'Spanish guy' (I suppose she means Roberto).
Then Anthony told her "you don't really come across as that intelligent" which he claimed was not meant as an insult. She pouted and did that ridiculous face which must be supposed to be sultry.
Also, she has a really bad parting.

Leslee and Saskia don't seem as bad as I'd thought they would be from the first night. Not particularly interesting, but not awful.

Kemal and Science has sussed that Makosi is under orders from BB to act weird. She didn't do a very good job of denying it when they confronted her. I don't think she will get the most nominations, so I hope she doesn't get evicted.

caitlin (caitlin), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:52 (twenty years ago)

i like Derek's outrageously posh voice - i hadn't heard it til now because everytime ive watched so far he's been sleeping.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

cathy: since BB2

CRAIG MUST GO

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:05 (twenty years ago)

you've got your wish! mary will be kept in, simply because we've never seen a full-on nervous breakdown on live television.

i cannot fucking believe nobody voted for lesley.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

nominated, even. ach, it's been a long day.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:08 (twenty years ago)

If only both could lose. Make it a double eviction!

dm, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

theyre pontificating right now on the nature of the show. kamal says its meant to be about 12 ppl meeting each other, not starting arguments or trying to win money despite being talentless at the end of it. hes kinda OTM. even though he will prob get a career at the end of it.

perceepisspants, Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:25 (twenty years ago)

one hundred and twenty percent

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:37 (twenty years ago)

Listening to Science talk gives me a headache.

M Philip O'Nyman (Ferg), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:48 (twenty years ago)

i was just thinking the same - i've met so many people like him who totally bombard you with chat about themselves while saying stuff like "i'm not trying to direspect you, i think you're a good guy" - if you respect me give me some thinking space and let me get a word in edgewise!

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:51 (twenty years ago)

You git me?!

bert (bert), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

Science is full of shit. Telling Kamal "you're confused" etc. in weak attempt to deflect his own discomfort re dude's sexuality. I love how Science and Mary went from being my favourites after 5 minutes to least favourites after 5 days.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:55 (twenty years ago)

people like him who totally bombard you with chat about themselves while saying stuff like "i'm not trying to direspect you, i think you're a good guy" - if you respect me give me some thinking space and let me get a word in edgewise!

Totally, I just had to turn it off to avoid gnashing my teeth at Roberto half-heartedly trying to get some sense out of him in lumbering fashion

M Philip O'Nyman (Ferg), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:57 (twenty years ago)

what's science's accent an amalgamation of? i can't get my head round it.

jed_ (jed), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 22:58 (twenty years ago)

Leeds + Jamaica, I think. It's great!

JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 23:05 (twenty years ago)

Ok so I just watched the livestream for plural hours um alcohol yeah excuses.

I have realised that I really dislike Kemal simply because he is exactly like me at nineteen, like, down to the hair and everything. He had this row with Maxwell where M accused him of being set against him from the start because M is a lad, etc, etc, (I hate Maxwell less for noticing this), it sort of faded out, then K went of to start it again, deliberately putting on his heels first and fiddling with them throughout the conversation as if to be all 'you are a lad! I wear heels! NEVER THE TWAIN SHALL MEET'.

I like Anthony more and more each day.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:14 (twenty years ago)

I disagree

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 01:24 (twenty years ago)

Famously.

Does Makosi still have to play the winning nominations game now? I disagree with cozen about her bum.

Also, how can people be getting sick of living in an ace house and having nice food and new people within *five days* of getting there? This is like a dream, for me, I am perpetually tempted to enter for this reason alone.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:15 (twenty years ago)

They gave them all trendy haircuts before going on. You would like that as well.

Eyeball Kicks (Eyeball Kicks), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:18 (twenty years ago)

Ouch!

I should stop watching this now.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 02:31 (twenty years ago)

I hate craig.

cozen (Cozen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 06:18 (twenty years ago)

Craig and Mary are my two least favourites anyway, apart from Sam, so I will be happy whichever goes. I like Anthony and Saskia more now through seeing the ways they coped with evil Mary.

I wonder why Makosi has chosen to only tell Kemal about her secret mission. I can understand her not wanting to tell the two up for eviction that it was because of her while they are still in the house, but couldn't she just say that BB told her to be nasty or else she'd be evicted? And she could have a fresh start with people.

So, has everyone been in a fight now except Vanessa and Derek? Or have they too and I missed it?

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 06:39 (twenty years ago)

theyre pontificating right now on the nature of the show. kamal says its meant to be about 12 ppl meeting each other,

Note for Kamal: please learn to count. kthxbye.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 07:07 (twenty years ago)

haha goodbye Craig, I cannot envisage Mary being voted out ahead of that whiny bitch.

but couldn't she just say that BB told her to be nasty or else she'd be evicted? And she could have a fresh start with people.

this would require thought on Makosi's part. I'm pretty amazed that her plan seems to have succeeded, and maybe if she just cuts out the diva behaviour people will put it down to first-week nerves or something...

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 June 2005 07:35 (twenty years ago)

I'm expecting that the next time she gets drunk she'll just start telling everyone anyway.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:00 (twenty years ago)

How driveyoucrazywithgiggletits is Mary's eye twitch, as seen during the bust-up with Saskia? It's like her eyelids have never quite learned how to narrow.

How giggletits happy is the house, for that matter?

Negativa, True Believer (You know you love it when I'm dressed in drag) (Barima), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:02 (twenty years ago)

fuck craig. mary did pretty well against the awful saskia. do we think saskia has really had two heart ops?

and yes, why is every conversation about tits?

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:03 (twenty years ago)

was it a mistake for Mikosi to tell K that she chose the housemates up for eviction?

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 08:05 (twenty years ago)

x-post: because the house is full of them?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:12 (twenty years ago)

It's time for the first in an occasional series, retarded comments from the Digital Spy forums.

Episode 1:

Saskia seems the only girl with that delicious combination of brains and beauty.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:35 (twenty years ago)

I thought Saskia came out of their tiff far better than Mary, who just seemed to have a vendetta against her for having big boobs. Saskia has never mentioned her boobs unless challenged over them, that I have seen, and isn't thrusting them in anyone's face. It's everyone else that's making a big issue out of them.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:37 (twenty years ago)

saskia is vile, though. and do we think she was lying about the heart ops?

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:38 (twenty years ago)

I voted for the first time. Craig must go.

jel, Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

No one nominated Lesley! wtf.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:45 (twenty years ago)

I believe her about the heart ops.

Cathy (Cathy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:54 (twenty years ago)

i must admit, my natural instinct is not to believe anything she says. this is unpleasant of me, i know, but ... meh. i wouldn't trust her as far as i could throw her.

that said: she did come off better in the mary-fight.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

i thought she came off as a bully in the mary fight. also i think she is lying about the heart ops. and she *does* go on about her looks and talent, etc, and the conspiracy of attractive, non-stupidly-large-breated, intelligent women in acting.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 09:57 (twenty years ago)

I thought Mary came off far worse.

"Don't say "listen to me" it's up to you to talk and for me to listen if I want to."

And yet what was the second sentence Mary uttered when it was her turn to speak? (HINT: it was the words "listen", "me" and "to", but in a different order)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:01 (twenty years ago)

Last nights show was great - Masoki could not have chosen a couple of more hatable housemates (bar Maxwell).

I'm starting to really dislike Mary and the way she beats everyone around the head with this 'Be honest and real and not fake' bullshit [if everyone was like this it'd just lead to tons of resentment and nastiness - how unpleasant was it when Mary kept repeating "I don't like you"?]. Saskia came out of the argument far better than she did and I'm glad that it appears to them both that the other housemates agree (due to the eviction nominations).

I would like to know whether Saskia does have fake breasts or not. It wouldn't change my opinion on her either way. I don't think she is lying about the heart operations, but I'm gullible. If she hadn't said all that horrible "I'm not racist but..." crap in her video diary I'd like her much more.

Kamel gets better every day: "You know who I feel like? Kate Bush!" *gallops off across the garden*

I'm glad Kamel treats Max how he does, there are far too many Maxwells on the planet and not enough Kamels. TS: Fiddling with high heels vs. Maxwell's shoutshoutSHOUT-over-everyone-else with warped logic, backed up with a delusional 'I take the piss out of myself more than anyone' coda. Fuck that guy.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:03 (twenty years ago)

Saskia and Mary - both awful.

The "one I want to win" hasn't really emerged yet. I like Kemal, I cling desperately to the idea that Science isn't awful, find Makosi funny, have nothing against Lesley or Roberto, hate all the others. All quite watchable tho.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Mary and Saskia equally pathetic. Mary hides under her own hair like she thinks she's Ally Sheedy in the Breakfast Club and even if Saskia did have heart surgery it was a pathetic time to point it out. Also hate the Rolling Ghetto Beeyatch Body Pop thing she started with because whenever anyone does that 'are you DISRESPECTIN' me?' rhetorical bullshit you just want to say 'now why would anyone do that?' and beam, innocently.

Yeah, also a total bully as she is easily double the size of Mary. I hope another housemate remembers to call out that heart ops scars are down the centre of the chest, not around the edge of the tits.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:05 (twenty years ago)

maxwell pretending not to be able to pronounce makosi's name was vile.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:06 (twenty years ago)

My favourite subplot is the Sam, Anthony and Max love triangle. Anthony is the only good guy in this little mess and it's highly entertaining to watch him feel tight on his buddy Max but be unable to resist Sam's charms.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:08 (twenty years ago)

what charms?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:10 (twenty years ago)

anthony is a tadpole.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:13 (twenty years ago)

"what charms?"

Despite having a mouth like the Joker and being almost wholly EVIL I know I would have a massive crush on Sam if I was around her. And I'd hate myself for it. Her perma-bikini wearing just ramps the whole thing up to the power 10.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:15 (twenty years ago)

i have decided who Sam reminds me of (until she opens her mouth to speak and ruins everything): dictionary corner girl from Countdown. this is a good thing.

that said, i'm on the verge of giving up on BB this year - i just get the feeling that the abyss is gazing also.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:54 (twenty years ago)

could someone please just firebomb this house? i saw my 1st 10 minutes of it last night and and immediately plummetted into the blackest pit of depression (lasting until i turned over).
they are really dreadful people. who's the loudmouthed cockney dude? he needs a really serious kicking. also why is it that every year the producers of the programme try to be more shocking, but appear to think that the only way they can do it is up the queer quota - i find this a bit suspect.

stelf)xxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:03 (twenty years ago)

dictionary corner girl from Countdown. this is a good thing.

Suzie Dent? crikes.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:18 (twenty years ago)

the loudmouthed cock(ney) dude is max(well), who is a total, total, total, total dick. when he comes out, i think i'm going to travel down to london and chin him.

the problem this year - the same thing happened last year too, to be honest - is that everybody's a "personality", an archetype. now, i know the likes of gos and dean and steph and so on weren't exactly fascinating to watch, but at least they gave some sense of balance. right now it's like watching a fucking school playground full of hyperactive little shits.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:21 (twenty years ago)

Suzy OTM re: Saskia's body popping. Saskia was bad enough at doing it that she seemed to be impersonating Mick Jagger.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:24 (twenty years ago)

There are two ways a BB can go:

Bunch of ordinary people slowly reveal their hidden weirdness.

Bunch of self-taught 'characters' slowly reveal their hidden normality.

With the latter (i.e. this series and last) it takes about 3 weeks of hatred before the more interesting nuances start coming out.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

I think Tom is right - I had an argument last year with Barry on the first night or thereabouts where he insisted that none of these people could possibly have any hidden depths. I think this will be a good BB.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:34 (twenty years ago)

i actually found myself quite liking the mega-gay dude. he seemed like the most reasonable of the lot. is saskia the one with the *REALLY MONSTROUS* knockers? if so, she's quite unpleasant, too.

stelf)xxxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

She has plenty of knockers, it's true.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:48 (twenty years ago)

The other things about the early weeks is that because there are so many housemates if you only dip in some evenings you can get really skewed perceptions of who is horrible or not. Best to assume they all are until it calms down a bit.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:51 (twenty years ago)

a fine view to apply to life in general!
btw, totally off-topic, have you got popso jamz yet?

stelf)xxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:52 (twenty years ago)

I'll gladly stand up against Saskia's knockers. Baddddum-tishh..

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:53 (twenty years ago)

maxwell pretending not to be able to pronounce makosi's name was vile

otm x 10000000.

i fucking hate that guy.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:54 (twenty years ago)

how do you pronounce her name?
*ducks*

stelf)xxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:57 (twenty years ago)

the titspertise on BB is amazing. i would be worried if i was faced with saskias chest in an intimate setting.

ppp, Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

Mah-KOH-see I think. It's one thing not to know when you've seen her for ten minutes tho and another to mispronounce when you've lived with her for most of a week.

re Popso Jamz - I had to google! It sounds great though, will buy it when I see it, is it actually out, the websites I saw had multiple release dats.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:59 (twenty years ago)

i agree w/ greg about liking anthony more each day.. he's one of the only people in the house who actually seems to care, in a genuine and non-ghoulish way, when others are upset. he's got an air of sweet bewilderment around him, which makes him seem much less calculating than his cohorts.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:04 (twenty years ago)

The other things about the early weeks is that because there are so many housemates if you only dip in some evenings you can get really skewed perceptions of who is horrible or not. Best to assume they all are until it calms down a bit.
-- Tom (freakytrigge...), June 2nd, 2005.

hey, it's free now: E4, dude.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Somewhat dodgily, the Gooner only voted to evict black girls.

Saskia could play hacky-sack with those knockers as they conveniently hang down past her waist. Anyway, everything about that 'quiet word' she wanted with Mary has made me loathe her ("so that heart surgery, love - did they just take it out and replace it with silicon?")

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:05 (twenty years ago)

Ha N_RQ I know, when I said "dip in" I didn't mean the nightly shows.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

i'm really tempted to start watching now.
hating people on telly makes me a much nicer person in real life.

(off-topic stuff to tom: i'll send you a couple of tracks over tonight. it's a lot of fun)

stelf)xxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

iirc, davina said at the beginning that saskia had open-heart surgery when she was two (or thereabouts).

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:11 (twenty years ago)

it's terribly intrusive of me, but i want hard facts re. saskia's medical history now.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:13 (twenty years ago)

if she didn't get a boob job, then i want hard facts re: who manufactures her bra because the person who designed something that can keep tits that huge up around the collarbone should get some kind of award.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:16 (twenty years ago)

like suzy said, they seemed nearer her knees than her collarbone to me.

stelf)xxxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:24 (twenty years ago)

tits update: a co-worker says saskia is now saying... how to put this? saskia is saying she had keyhole surgery, twice, in the breast area... 'because she was having panic attacks'. my fact-checking team is hitting the phones.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:25 (twenty years ago)

her tits have discovered the secret of supernatural levitation.

panic attacks lead to keyhole surgery? bloody hell

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:26 (twenty years ago)

I like Sam and Maxwell the best. Saskia and Roberto in reserve.

Kemal critisised Maxwell for playing up to the cameras (yeah, that old one). This is a bit rich to say the very least. Gee whiz yet another poisonous, bitchy queen flouncing loudly about the BB house, like that hasn't got old yet.

Yeah, Saskia clearly won the arg with Mary, but then Mary is probably too vacuous and deluded to notice. And again she's been wittering about how that twit 'Science' is so intellegent and tells the TRUTH and is REAL just like her.

is saskia the one with the *REALLY MONSTROUS* knockers?

No, you're thinking of Lesley. She's the one who persistantly squdges her tits together and keeps asking "Are my nipples too big? ADo my tits look saggy?". But you won't get girls critisising her 'cos she isn't a threat (meaning: she ugly).

Yeah, also a total bully as she is easily double the size of Mary.

Also see Lesley v Sam, then. (except Lesley is 400 times the size of... anyone). But it was Mary having a go at Saskia. Both fall-outs centre around the usual reason - unattractive girl hating on the pretty girl. Predictable.

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:27 (twenty years ago)

she isn't a threat (meaning: she ugly).

She's hardly *ugly*, but she's rather porkier than the others. Not in an unhealthy, obese way, though - frankly, she's the normal-sized person, and the others are all fairly skinny.

(see also: the amount of cellulite on her thighs)

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:29 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell seems to me to be the worst bully in the house.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:31 (twenty years ago)

frankly, she's the normal-sized person

Come off it, she's overwieght.

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Mary is not unattractive, at least aesthetically. I'd love to see what Saskia looks like in another 10 years by comparison (Mary 32, Saskia about 10 years younger). Sam is the one who has had the implants, according to the BB6 site.

suzy (suzy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

Nah. There's no way Lesley's clinically overweight.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:33 (twenty years ago)

maxwell, sam, and vanessa need to be seen to by the hair police. vanessa's two-tone brassy yellow look - aiieee! maxwell's gel abuse - aiieee! sam's middle-parted, asymmetrical, multi-toned fright wig - AIEEEEEEEEE!

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:36 (twenty years ago)

Caitlin I'd guess she's a little overweight but not obese. Not coincidentally I fancy her more than anyone else in the house. (Also I've not watched enough to see her be as obnoxious as she apparently is.)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:38 (twenty years ago)

I wonder what Mary looked like ten years ago (not as good as Saskia, I'm guessing).

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:40 (twenty years ago)

speaking of hair police - look at science's hair on bb site.

http://www.channel4.com/bigbrother/latest-pics/themed_galleries/hairy_moments/index-page7.html

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:41 (twenty years ago)

Nah. There's no way Lesley's clinically overweight

come on! she's gargantuan. she is no stranger to the cake shop. she ain't obese, but she's overweight.

oh, x-post.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

no, i'm definitely thinking of saskia. she's awful.

haha. a colleague of mine has just told me that maxwell described himself as "the walking stephen hawking". that makes me want to slap him much less.

stelf)xxxx, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:42 (twenty years ago)

saskia looks thrown together. suzy otm.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:44 (twenty years ago)

Lesley can't be overweight - according to her FaceParty profile she's only 10st and a size 12.

(lesley_luvz_u is her username)

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:46 (twenty years ago)

I think Lesley may actually be clinically obese, though this is the least of her problems.

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:02 (twenty years ago)

x-post: ha, fuck off lesley. i'm less than ten stone and i'm a short-arsed male. indeed, before i started working out i was nearer nine. fuck's sake, the fat lying boot.

and SIZE 12? come off it. i've seen beached whales that would fit better into a size 12 top.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:04 (twenty years ago)

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:08 (twenty years ago)

mr. fiendish, i liked you better when you stuck to daydreaming about skinny women with oversized breast implants.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

i wonder how good dm looks when he's lounging around? it never ceases to amaze me how casually people call out women on TV for being fat and/or ugly.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:10 (twenty years ago)

The crap that comes out of her mouth is worse than the amount of food that goes in.

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

I am not surprised that you like sam and maxwell, the best

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:13 (twenty years ago)

oh, come on, guys and girls. there is no getting away from the fact that lesley is fat. derek is bald, lesley is fat, maxwell is a tosser. these are undeniable facts.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

the usage of bold tags there has really helped to convince me i must admit.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

Her ginormous breasts appear to be making her look much larger than she actually is to some people.

The Ghost of Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

thing is, though, lesley's size is a mere distraction. fat, thin or made entirely out of cheese, the fact also remains that she is a fucking horrific person; a loud-mouthed, whining, self-centred, nasty piece of work. her ugliness is all in those bitter, angry eyes (and, er, the appalling hair. she does, admittedly, look a lot better before she starts ironing it).

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:26 (twenty years ago)

i think part of the problem is that, growing up in blackpool, i met an awful lot of lesleys. awful being the operative word.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

are you wanking as you write this?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:28 (twenty years ago)

surely you wrote that

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:30 (twenty years ago)

All previous large BB contestants (i.e. Brummie woman from BB3, Gos) have been acceptably jolly - no bitching, no sex life, we'll leave those to the skinny folks thanks and get on with our cooking and comforting! I doubt BB will ever be won by a large person though. Of course ideally size would not be a factor either way.

Ultramarine were balding crusties IIRC.

Though they worked with Robert Wyatt who was a bit of a porker.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:38 (twenty years ago)

If only Lesley wasn't so bitter, aggressive and spiteful, people attempting to defend her might have a point.

dm, Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:39 (twenty years ago)

ultrasonic

I think Leslie is just a stupid moron, I don't really consider her superfat but I hardly think she deserves to be a representative for our times because she is supposedly happy with her body.

I would think anyone who wore a nurses outfit on their way into the BB house was a bit of a tool.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:42 (twenty years ago)

i don't personally find lesley attractive either physically or in any other way, but she's no worse than the others (ie saskia), and isn't aggressive or particularly spiteful.

How do the Sun have that Makosi pic!?

I really like Tom's point about hidden normalcies starting to show through around week three, it is very true I think. Best BB ever definitely, anyhow - there really isn't any equivalent of Penny in the house, someone whom you see and are immediately all "Oh. I see what you do. That's not very interesting, is it?"

I don't think it's fair to judge people by their entrance costumes, plausibly tool-hood is like in the contract re: them. I mean, Kemal's sari! He is nowhere near that bad.

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:45 (twenty years ago)

I don't think she's a representative for our times or anything, and I've not actually seen most of it this week so I've not caught her being obnoxious. In two threads time I will be hating her I'm sure. (Though not with the sound down, no I'm not proud.) But I honestly do think it's refreshing to see someone in a Reality TV programme who is fat or fattish and doesn't come over all jolly.

Maxwell is 10 times more aggressive, from what I've seen.

Emma was truly horrible yeah. I too need to watch more of it, maybe Tom has a point.

I will happily provide a list of apalling fat people as long as my arm, starting with Alison off BB3 and bloody Michelle McManus.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm not really watching it at all which explains my 'defensiveness' I suppose. But attacking someone for being nasty is all 'well and good', it's just that if they're big then 'fat' ALWAYS becomes a prefix adjective in the abuse. That's what we're objecting to I suppose.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

you don't have to like lesley (i don't much) but there's no need to get phobic about it. also, emma was funny, wtf?

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Basically I'm defending Lesley cos I think she's attractive. This is the same reason dm is defending Sam, except our rhetorical excuse clauses are different (me = she's standing up for fatties; him = everyone who hates her is jealous).

My actual favourite housemates are probably Kemal and Makosi (who is surely the most conventionally attractive person in the house?)

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Does Lesley's weight have anything to do with her personality?

er, no: that's exactly the comment i made above.

but there's no need to get phobic about it

it's too late. i've been phobic about women like that since i was 14.

emma was funny

wow. i think she was the single most objectionable person it's ever been my misfortune to watch on a television screen.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Not condoning Victor's actions on Fight Night, but Emma was irritating to watch for me, so God knows how people in the house put up with her. So fucking dense at times....

AdrianB (AdrianB), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

I agree with everything Tom says, except that I liked Alison off BB3! She turned up on This Morning yesterday and it pleased me that she's still in work, of sorts.

I think Lesley is quite pretty, but I don't find her personality too attractive and I'm put off by the flesh hanging out. Saskia, on the other hand, could do with some tops that are a bit lower cut because the high necks she sports give her shelfbust. Character-wise, I find her quite hideous (therefore she MUST stay in the house, for now at least).

Makosi is the only attractive person this year - she is completely gorgeous. How I long for some mancandy. It is a rare thing, on Big Brother :(

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

Emma's 'racism' amounted to questioning Victor's seemingly willing embrace of rubbish stereotype, or so she thought - her term for this ("some kind of black man") highly dubious. I don't know if she meant to say something else ('thugster' would've been cute). I canb't remember if there were any other questionable remarks from her. Victor was every bit as nasty in that fracas anyway.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

mary is otm re. roberto. makosi is probably the fittest contestant in any series.

N_RQ, Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Roberto's charming Italian ways and northern combo accent get me every now and again, but he's a bit maldini-esque for my liking. It's the pale eyes and sunken cheeks. Too early to judge his character, I think. He seems to be playing his cards close to his chest, which is what turns Mary off.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

I quite like Roberto, probably because he's a bit older than most of the others. I liked Makosi's reason for nominating him - "he puts olive oil on everything!"

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:44 (twenty years ago)

you know he was runner-up in "most attractive man in italy", or some such nonsense? (according to heat magazine, anyway.)

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Maxwell's constant "at de'end o'the day all ar wonted to do was av a noice fackin' beeah" whingeing was one of the most annoying things I've ever seen on television; he must be beaten to death with his own shinbones forthwith. He's made Craig seem like more of an irritant than a full cunt, so he should just be bruised lightly with Maxwell's shinbones afterwards.

I've still not seen enough of Makosi to work out how smart she actually is - she seemed cleverer than people had suggested. Other than her, Kemal and Derek seem to be the only ones with any actual genuine charisma rather than overbearing AT THE END OF THE DAY LISTEN TO ME bluster. Also Kemal is only 19 and I find his giddy enthusiasm amiable.

I feel a bit bad that Lesley provokes such a visceral reaction in me as she seems pretty badly insecure at the heart of it. Similarly, Sam is a total manipulative bitch (see when she hugged Lesley and rolled her eyes mockingly), which makes me feel bad for wanting to marry her. As has been noted, she will be fairly rapidly voted off by gays and ladies and will be relegated to the cover of Nuts/Zoo where her appeal will be lost.

This whole Mary thing just seems a bit wrong, really.

In this regard Lesley's brazen-ness is really appealing, especially as they're ALL loud-mouthed, whining, and self-centred this year (except possibly Anthony).

I'd just like to be the first person to have a big belly laugh at Craig's tantrum. er, wasn't his video diary all about diminishing himself to stir up trouble? The most telling moment came when he sobbed "Inside here - outside there, no one ever thanks me! No one ever buys me a drink!" Looks like Craig is equally despised out there in the big bad world.

And can someone tell Mary that if everyone in real life was 'real' and said so when someone pissed them off, well there'd be a lot of broken noses.

I can't decide who I dislike more but once again, three cheers for Makosi for choosing these two to be nominated.

Affectian (Affectian), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:56 (twenty years ago)

Considering how obnoxious he looked on entering the house, I think Anthony is one of the few I could actually stand being locked in a house with. I'm reserving judgement on Sam, Saskia and Vanessa because I haven't heard them actually say anything since the first night. I reckon I'd warm to Mary a bit more if she weren't so fucking pompous, although I want to believe she was right about Science. Haven't seen quite what's so terrible about Lesley and I was almost warming to Craig until his little "no one's acknowledging me!" rant.

I hate Kemal and Maxwell.

The bit last night when she thanked the house for not nominating her when she'd been such a bitch to them and how she great she thought they all were for being mature enough to look over it all (when she knew full well she had had equal most nominations) was great.

these people are, almost without exception, awful. how anyone can like makosi, pretty as she is, when she refers to herself in the third person all the time is beyond me.
craig is vile. anthony is tick but nice and mary shouldn't actually be in the thing in the 1st place. she really should be taken out for the good of her own mental health and i found seeing her on tv last night quite distressing.
nrq is otm about derek - he is horribly creepy, but i want him to stay around just so as the inevitable occurs and he molests maxwell at some stage.
as much as i hate maxwell, i am actually quite ipressed that he hasn't smacked kamal yet, who apart from the bath in the bin, which was funny, should have been punched almost continuously throughut the show.
the large breasted women are apalling (it's obvious why they both seem to dislike the really attractive one), so that leaves me thinking that the only two i could tolerate are roberto and vanessa.

i'm not sure he did. imo, kamal (who looks like lou reed with those sunglasses btw) is camper in BB compound than in the outside world not to show off for the camera but because it's a safer environment.

would all these arguments happen with any 13 people thrown together like this (in which case god help society) or is it something about the 'strong' characters that get chosen that makes it more likely?

koogs (koogs), Friday, 3 June 2005 09:28 (twenty years ago)

it's not so much that they're 'strong' characters, just that they're argumentative, which isn't really the same thing at all. Saskia talking about Derek last night/early hours: (paraphrashing)"the way he talks is surprising, cos you don't expect a black man to talk like that, do you?"
I can go off people and that pretty much does it, plus the fact she's gone back to wearing her hair scraped back = oh dear. Hope Craig stays to put her hair back in braids.

I like Makosi, in moderation, but when she gats carried away with all this "the idiots don't know I'm punking them 'cos I'm smarter and isn't my deviousness clever", she seems to have forgotten that this was a role GIVEN TO HER by BB. yeahbut kemal was *denying* that he was showing off: he's an exhibitionist anyway!! which is a punchable thing to say.

N_RQ, Friday, 3 June 2005 11:45 (twenty years ago)

well, he is the most punchable person on the planet.

g-kit (g-kit), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:49 (twenty years ago)

dm is wrong, again, and, this time, about what saskia said about derek.

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:58 (twenty years ago)

Why is craig's neck covered in hair?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:09 (twenty years ago)

why is vanessa wearing 4" platform flip-flops?

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:11 (twenty years ago)

those things should have been rounded up and burnt in the early 90s.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

why is mary saying she's a private person?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:12 (twenty years ago)

how do i get e4 on freeview?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:14 (twenty years ago)

retune yr box and go to channel 14.

N_RQ, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:15 (twenty years ago)

you make it sound like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 13:16 (twenty years ago)

... and await instructions.

N_RQ, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:19 (twenty years ago)

dm is wrong, again, and, this time, about what saskia said about derek.

No I'm not. That's what she said, in the pool at about 1am to Craig, Max and Vanessa.

dm, Friday, 3 June 2005 13:32 (twenty years ago)

i didn't see this conversation so i can't really comment. but she certainly did make some appalling comments on her audition tape that suggest her understanding of cultural, racial and societal issues is woeful.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:03 (twenty years ago)

derek has a funny accent

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

racist!

N_RQ, Friday, 3 June 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

no I'm not, I once dated sinitta

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

you mean you once referred to her as dated.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:26 (twenty years ago)

yes, that's not racist, is it?

RJG (RJG), Friday, 3 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

some revelations from heat magazine (i read it the gym, ok):

vanessa claims to be able to turn any gay man around. also, she is addicted to chocolate.

sam once stripped naked on a podium to win free tickets (for what, the article did not say).

mary was once a pole-dancer.

Yeah, revelations that are all on the contestants' profiles on the Channel 4 website. You would have thought that with Mark Firth appearing on BBLB fifty times a week he would have some proper backstage gossip to print. Thinking about it, he probably does, but he's too concerned about his TV career to burn those bridges...

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 3 June 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Saskia qualified her statement about not expecting Derek to have a voice like he does by saying "that's awful, isn't it, that you just assume because he's black..." So how I understood the conversation was that she was drawing attention to how Derek's voice and extreme poshness confronted them with their own preconceptions about black people. Which is not racist.

Cathy (Cathy), Friday, 3 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

OTM!

jed_ (jed), Friday, 3 June 2005 17:44 (twenty years ago)

Quite enjoying the editing together of Sam talking in the diary room about sexual tension and how sexy Anthony and Max are, whilst the clever clever editors cut in shots of Anthony and Max face down on the sofas sleeping with their mouths hanging open.

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:19 (twenty years ago)

haha!

jed_ (jed), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

wtf? who in their right mind would possibly want to see more craig on their tv screens over more mary? the british public are fools pt 94837617.

sam's diary room inanities make me angry.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:34 (twenty years ago)

Sam is an utter moron.

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

I wanted them both to go, but I'll take just one I suppose.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:38 (twenty years ago)

this is the right decision provided that Craig is going to keep crumpling into a little ball of snotty soggy rags every two days from hereon in.

Alex in Doncaster (Alex in Doncaster), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:40 (twenty years ago)

the thought of enduring any more of Craig's fucking repulsive whiny tantrums is hurting my head! GET HIM OUT.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

Mary would have left within a few days anyway. I think she was pretty unbalanced,

jed_ (jed), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:44 (twenty years ago)

> Quite enjoying the editing together of Sam talking in the diary room about sexual tension and how sexy Anthony and Max are, whilst the clever clever editors cut in shots of Anthony and Max face down on the sofas sleeping with their mouths hanging open.

was classic, yes.

she uses giggles as punctuation which would be quite charming if what she was saying wasn't such a waste of breath. plus her taste in men sucks.

craig's parents obviously think the sun shines out of his behind. must be a genetic thing.

touch the truck was interesting, yes. especially a few days in when they started hallucinating.

koogs (koogs), Friday, 3 June 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad it was Mary.

But it's always been a woman to go first, every time, hasn't it?

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:06 (twenty years ago)

sam is a dead-eyed monstrosity of falseness. i didn't realise quite how awful she was until i watched that diary-room thing. she's a living lie.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

I was amused by the way Sam was reduced to repeating 'sex' at the end of that diary room session. Well done dear.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 3 June 2005 20:50 (twenty years ago)

Mary was really sweet in her interview. I don't understand why her haters are hating.

Does Sam even fancy any of the men particularly? I think she's more in lust with the idea of shagging on Big Brother.

The Lex (The Lex), Friday, 3 June 2005 21:02 (twenty years ago)

she totally wants to do Anthony and Maxwell. mad cow.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Friday, 3 June 2005 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Mary being evicted was like England going out in the group stages of those football tournament they play. I knew deep inside she couldn't make it, but last four would have been nice. Again the United Kingdom shows it's disgusting intolerance of Gothicists.

elwisty (elwisty), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:30 (twenty years ago)

from the first series?

elwisty (elwisty), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

Is it time for a new thread for the 2nd week yet?

AdrianB (AdrianB), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:53 (twenty years ago)

yes

jed_ (jed), Friday, 3 June 2005 22:54 (twenty years ago)

Everyone is sweet in their exit interviews. I've had pangs of regret over the most disgraceful human horrors, this is why I usually make sure I'm in the pub on Friday nights.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 4 June 2005 08:26 (twenty years ago)

im fairly dissappointed that Channel 4 have reverted to "who goes, you decide" after briefly flirting with "who stays, you decide" for celebrity big brother this year. I think the "who goes..." leads to the most interesting/good to watch characters being ejected first (right enough - theres not many interesting/good to watch characters this year). i mean, do you think many would have voted for craig to stay over mary?

James Mitchell (James Mitchell), Sunday, 5 June 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

After much consideration I have decided I probably would have sex with Sam.

Television Tim, Sunday, 5 June 2005 14:23 (twenty years ago)

There was an article about Sam in the Oxford Mail over the weekend. She's studying Marketing at Oxford Brookes, and was sacked from her part time job as a 'hostess' at the Park End Club for getting drunk all the time and trying to seduce people. Or something.

C J (C J), Sunday, 5 June 2005 14:40 (twenty years ago)

Park End have hostesses!?

Gravel Puzzleworth (Gregory Henry), Sunday, 5 June 2005 15:17 (twenty years ago)

im fairly dissappointed that Channel 4 have reverted to "who goes, you decide" after briefly flirting with "who stays, you decide" for celebrity big brother this year.

Wasn't that just because CBB is a shorter series? Normally they start off with "who goes" and switch to "who wins" in the last week.

caitlin (caitlin), Sunday, 5 June 2005 16:49 (twenty years ago)

So who else would do Sam then?

Television Ted, Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:28 (twenty years ago)

not me.

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Wah! I've been away a week and there's 850 answers! Help me!

What happened? I see Mary went, and I saw the prog yesterday (counting task), what else/salient have I missed? (I had Science pegged as possible winner, but now I think he's the first nutter to crack!)

Funny, when I started this thread, BB2004 had just ended, and we had come to know and love the housemates anyhow. So I called it "painful showoffs" as a form of irony. But judging by the tabloids, painful showoffs is what they are. But they do that every year.

mark grout (mark grout), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

they're all still pretty awful.

N_RQ, Monday, 6 June 2005 08:20 (twenty years ago)

Sam is favourite to go this weekend, unless she walks out first. She threatened to last night, after her makeup bag was hidden.

Oh, and apparently there was a massive lesbo sesh in the bedroom which caused C4 to pull the live feed for some time...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Isabel called me to the TV saying "Tom it's lesbians"

And then all I saw was a load of bushes.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:27 (twenty years ago)

haha. what's the point of live feed if they cut the lezzing up? who was involved?

N_RQ, Monday, 6 June 2005 08:29 (twenty years ago)

science is as thick as jade goody.

http://bigbrother.digitalspy.co.uk/article/ds7778.html

Makosi was the first to initiate the intimacy, thrusting her hand down Anthony's pants as he lay innoncently on his bed. Quite how far she got is unclear, although a lurking Sam was heard to exclaim: "I just saw his dick!"

"I'm not just a piece of meat you know," Anthony said afterwards, as Makosi laughed. "I've got feelings."

He then advised Max: "You should lie in bed with her, see what happens."

As Anthony came to terms with the violation, Lesley and Vanessa were quietly getting to know each other better on the opposite side of the room.

When it became apparent that the pair were pashing, Makosi darted over and jumped under the sheets to join in with the fun. Strangely, Craig attempted to join them too but was promptly told: "Piss off!"

The trio went on to spend the best part of an hour in bed together, most of which was cut out by the live stream producers.

jed_ (jed), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:32 (twenty years ago)

pashing? Lesley and Vanessea? oh dear.

Sociah T Azzahole (blueski), Monday, 6 June 2005 08:54 (twenty years ago)

nine months pass...
AdrianB - The stuff re: Derek and alleged paedophilia.

Reply - Well he doesn't appear to have sued Scallywag magazine after they'd printed his name. http://pebpr.blogspot.com
