The problem is either using an impersonal pronoun ("that") to describe people ("professors"), a grammatical no-no (should be "who"), or, if you read it differently, then the books are "grammatically challenged", which is kind of stretching things, anthropomorphization-wise. OK, that's not a huge error, but I wouldn't call him on it except the content of the post begs for it. I think you figured out the spelling mistake.
The other problem is that THIS IS AN INTERNET MESSAGE BOARD AND NOTHING MATTERS

I came of age in a time ripe for innovation in the field of lego spacecraft engineering. The invention of the long clear ones, the x-wing style space windshield pieces, the big wheels (perfect for landing gear), etc. I really wish I had taken pictures of some of them, the GI Joe Intergalactic Transport, the Gobot Destroyer, Bumblebee's Time Travel Flyer, etc. I weep for the lost documentation of my childhood's greatest endeavors.

I don't like George W Bush. Rather, i don't like his policies. I think he's dangerous, incompetent and stupid. I do not support the war in any capacity. I don't know WHAT we'll do, as a nation, under four more years of George W Bush. Perish, probably.
That said, I think if I decided to vote in this coming election, which would be the first (and presumably last) time, I think pulling the lever and casting a vote that would help to ruin the day of people like Michael Moore, Kathleen Hanna, The Beastie Boys, Steve Earle, Bruce Springsteen, Sean Penn, Alec Baldwin, Linda Ronstadt, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, Madonna, and REM, would feel much like a hundred china white spikes in my vein. It'd surely bring me to an internal-organ warming state of supreme ecstasy, culminating in a cream colored climax the likes of which no mortal man has ever experienced.
One more fucking protest song, and, to paraphrase an Onion column from a few months back, my vote is going to cancel out yours.
And you just TRY to keep Mellencamp quiet.
In this way, I exploit democracy's greatest flaw. And STILL help to keep Heinz-Kerry from moving into The White House. Rightfuckingon.

No they wouldn't. They are justifiably relegated to the sickly, foul-smelling, waste-choked bed pan of deservedly-forgotten pop history where they belong.

i dunno, "call and response" is pretty pervasive as a technique, not limited to spirituals. i wouldn't say that spirituals are the most proximate context here. rap music is the proximate context, if we need one. there are "call and response" patterns all over rap music.

As far as I'm concerned, Marcello Carlin outstayed his welcome here long ago. He has show little courtesy for anybody else on these boards in recent times, and should know better than to expect from us the type of generosity and patience which he himself has failed to deliver time and time again.
By bringing his problems to ILE, Marcello effectively opened himself to criticism. If he wasn't prepared to witness a discussion of his person, he shouldn't have gotten personal on the boards.
Putting "DO NOT READ IF YOU HATE ME" in your thread title does not magically refuse entry to those that hate you and want to condemn or provoke you. There is a standard of freedom of speech which I at least try to uphold here, and Tom was well within his rights to make the comments he did.
The fact that I personally agree with the points he raised have nothing to do with this policy decision.

Date: Thu, 23 Sep 2004 20:09:43 -0700 (PDT)From: Rick Ele Subject: O! SUCK ME, PROG! (S'morgue Anagrams)
A class action suit against Pitchfork Media claimingmisappropriation of the word "prog" has been filed onbehalf of all the music geeks that comprise theSPOCKMORGUE roster, some of whom held picket signsreading "SUE MOCK PROG" in today in front of PforkHqtrs.
PITCHFORK MEDIA staff were not available for commentbecause they were away at a HOT KID CAMPFIRE singingcontemporary emo hits and roasting marshmallows withother smarmy likeminded western-shirt-wearin'blowhards with very small pointy eyeglasses.
WEASEL WALTER never saw a SWEETER "L.A. LAW" episodethan the time Blair Underwood and Corbin Bernsen'scharacters both unwittingly hooked up on a blinddouble date. He recently suspended his exacting venuestandards and played a house show, but he rememberedwhy he generally doesn't book house shows for FLYINGLUTTENBACHERS where some perv spiked the punch withrohypnol causing a FUNNY LITTLE GHB SCARE, andeveryone went home with a complete stranger.
George was only kidding when he said Weasle's drummingwas totally overrated, but it did succeed in spurringWeasel into playing those drums like never before, andthus the FLYING LUTTENBACHERS proceeded to BURY LITTLEG. CHEN FANS with a paint-peeling performance. ThenWeasel re-enacted the famous Chicago "DiscoDemolition," but only this time it was a small pyramidof K.I.T. 7-inches on smoldering on the floor.
No one wants to imagine their parents humping...andstrangely enough, CURSE OF THE BIRTHMARK had to cancela gig because of one members emotional distress; hisonly comment was "I saw FATHER RUB MOTHER...I SICK!" (I couldn't even attempt a tie-in for FIRM SORBETHACKER HUT.)
DEATH SENTENCE PANDA played in Kris Kringle outfitsand xmas stocking-caps in their new extended swirlypsych lineup which includes a sitarist who was like atotally DEEP ENCHANTED SANTA.
Now that Matt St. Germaine has announced a new pricingscheme for his CDR and DVDR duplication services,FREEDOM FROM has become synonymous with MR. DEMOOFFER. Backwards subliminal messages in the Ova!/HappyMothers Day... CD have been used in music therapy atstate psychiatric institutions, and the governor ofMinnesota has recognized FREEDOM FROM RECORDS fortheir efforts which have REFORMED FORMER OCD's.
The band T.I.T.S. made such a splash in their firstfew months of playing out at Bay Area gigs, but theybegan to get more ambitious to create an even biggerbuzz by staging their own break-up to cash in on theircontrived "ex-members-of" status, then "reuniting" asEX-TITS ARE BIG and signing to TIGERBEAT SIX.
TIGERBEAT SIX figured they'd hafta strap on an EXTRABIG SET to renegotiate their contract with Numbers nowthat they're like hella-big in Europe 'n' shit.
Don't even think about asking DEERHOOF to play a showunless you get the event catered; they weren't theleast worried about beer tickets at their show...allthey cared about was "Is there FOOD HERE?" But that'swhat happens when you play the D.A.M. House threetimes in '97 and '98, where we routinely blow $300 ongroceries for every party.
Speaking of Davis, the COACHWHIPS were so amazed atthe population of cows on campus last week when theyplayed the Agrarian Effort Co-Ops. Before kicking offthe show, Dwyer asked, "What's that smell in the air?" The answer: "AH, COW CHIPS." Some Aggies actuallyreinforced the cowpoke Kings-fan stereotypes by havinga cow-chip tossing competition at the horseshoe pit.
NARNACK RECORDS moved their NYC offices to ConeyIsland to make lunchbreaks more interesting. Now theyare situated on a totally RAD SNACK CORNER with a hotdog cart, a falafel place, and a pizzeria all within50 feet of their door. After adding Sonic Youth andThe Fall to their stable of recording artists, NARNACKRECORDS sought to invoke a reunion of Krautrock greatsCan, but those DARN CAN ROCKERS have finally takenwell with retirement after many uninspired soloprojects.
Many of you know that GUITAR WOLF is famous for pukingon stage after seeing this happen last year at theHemlock Tavern. Well, after eating a bowl of grapesand melons and taking several flaming shots at thebar, some GUITAR WOLF fans were treated to the bizarreand shocking image of FRUIT AGLOW coming outta thesinger's mouth at their last performance.
The new Sassy Magazine is reaching for its cool oldroots by rekindling it's cute boy band alert--rememberwhen they occasionally put the spotlight on indieartists like Nation of Ulysses?--and in the nextissue, they are featuring BLACK DICE. Some girlsapparently are swooning, but a BI CACKLED when askedfor comment, but she would reconsider if they added afemale member to round out the band. (Yeah, some ofthese are reaching....)
No one would've figured ANIMAL COLLECTIVE to be majorsupporters of the Descendents or All, but they agreedto headline a recent benefit concert to protest thedevelopment of condos on the site of the band All'spractice space in Fort Collin, CO. Panda Bear waseven heard shouting to the crowd, "You can't EVICT ALLON MALICE!" Some longtime fans wondered if theirfavorite band had sold out when they didn't show updressed like animals and one member wore a NICE EVILMALL COAT from Hot Topic.
LIGHTNING BOLT are really excited by Adrian Beltrechallenging former Phillies great Mike Schmidt for theall-time record for most homeruns in a season by athirdbaseman, and they've also been chronicling BarryBonds' race to 700 career homers and Albert Pujols'bid to become the fifth major leaguer to drive in 500runs in his first four big league seasons. You canread all about it online in Brian's NL HITTING BLOG.
UPSILON ACRUX waited too long to reserve a domain namefor their band website and had to pay off oneopportunistic "fan" who had reserved upsilonacrux.com,.net, and .org. "URL PANIC SUX!" Paul said.
LE FLANGE DU MAL was mistakenly double-booked at anall-aged club in Santa Rosa the same night Velvet Teenwas booked to play, but they championed on andpersisted through an unseemly MALL FAN DELUGE.
CRACK: WE ARE ROCK is shooting for the stars for theirnext full-length release and aiming for mainstreambreakthrough success; they'll be quitting theirdayjobs as soon as possible and will be damned if theycan't make music and tour full-time rather than WORKCACK CAREERS.
Taking cues from the parallel Hepatitis Youth tourwhich followed them all over the U.S. last time, ERASEERRATA is scheduled to play A RARE EASTER performancein front of a Catholic church next spring. Thoseparishioners are gonna be so pissed! I can't wait tocatch the look on their faces on videotape!
If you weren't clued in by the occasional referencesto Filipino-American culture on the first Rose ForBohdan album, then maybe you'd be surprised to knowthat the mogul behind DEATHBOMBARC is totallycommitted to lowering and tuning Hondas and Acuras andaffixing stickers that inexplicably say "Top Fuel" and"Powered by Mugen" all over the windows. TheDEATHBOMBARC street-racing club has been winning manyawards for their outlandish and innovativeturbocharged Civics and Integras. And if you everwanna see some fine hotties, you should come to someof the car shows. So many bikini girls pose next tothe cars, and there's all kindsa freaks lookin' forhott boi with an unnecessarily loud exhaust tip tohook up with. These events are like a "D.O.H.C. BABEMART."
All of the bands on DEATHBOMBARC hafta sign a pact sothat when they die, the members are buried in thelabel's very own mausoleum on the beach. It seemskinda weird, but when you see it, you will think it'sa totally RAD BEACH TOMB, and you will be itching tosign your band on the dotted line.
Just like LIL POCKETKNIFE, in fact! Some vintagesynth nut was so enamored by their keytar that hetried to run off with it. He was a very handsomefellow, but not after the club bouncer caught up tohim a block away and punched his face in. That was aFINE LICK, KLEPTO.
Ben from LOAD RECORDS was inspired to get in on theimport tuning action and even used attached ahella-sick rear wing spoiler that stuck up two feethigher than the roof of his car, but it applied somuch downforce on the back wheels, which is the lastthing you want when you're modifying a front-drivecar. The compression rate on the VTEC motorskyrocketed after the ill-advised addition of aparticular bolt-on turbo, and then the CAR DROOLED. Those East Coast guys should stay outta the WestCoast's import tuning game....stick to your Camaros,East Coast!
When Dim Mak released yet another useless record byThe Apes, everyone looked the other way, but EATSTAPES was happy that Dim Mak also made the album inall three major formats including cassette. Theyplayed the Apes tape in their little tape player andmanaged to build a really cool song out of theblandest track on the album, then they released it asa sorta remix called "TASTE APES." Yeah, that'spretty clever, huh?
All bands are used to getting "Freebird" requestsshouted at them, but at the last COMETS ON FIRE gig inSoCal, some old-school punker with a flannel shirtaround his waist had the nerve to request they play aCircle Jerks cover. To which, the band suggested thatthe mosh-dude and his moshy friends get in a circleand see which ONE COME FIRST.
Dan from ON/ON SWITCH was so impressed with shows inDavis after seeing a couple of them, but the last onewas a bad experience when he stepped in somethingreally foul. It didn't help Davis' cowpoke Aggieimage in the least when a stampede of cattle brokeloose from the animal husbandry lab and ran throughthe streets, defecating all over. "If there are somany smart ag and bio students at UCD, tell them todevelop a NON-SHIT COW, and I'll come back," Dan said.
But those scatological-brained dudes in POPULAR SHAPESwere pretty much awesomed by this bovine shit-storm. "AHA! SUPER PLOPS!" exclaimed the drummer.
That is all for now.

how does it relate to awe/sublimity/beauty and things on the epic/grand scale. if it finds awe/sublimity/beauty isnt it small and/or localised does it find it at all.

AnswersIs there a temporal element as well? I.e. I'm thinking that whatever is sublime to post-structuralism is something dynamic and occurs over-time (and is potentially endless). Whereas, epic and grand things remind me of monumental architecture and is high-modernist by contrast. -- Spencer Chow (spencercho...), October 4th, 2004. (later)

Voice of Journalist: (shouts) WHAT DID YOU SAY?
Cooper: (louder) PICTURES ON A WALL. (faraway look) BACK AT SOME PLACE... (shakes head) THAT DOESN'T EVEN EXIST ANYMORE.
Voice of Journalist: MR. COOPER, SPEAK UP.
Cooper: SOME OF THEM ARE...(looks at Grissom) RIGHT HERE IN THIS ROOM, AND SOME OF THEM (faraway look) ARE STILL OUT THERE SOMEWHERE, DOING WHAT THEY ALWAYS DO -- (patiently) GOING UP EACH DAY IN A HURTLING PIECE OF MACHINERY - PUTTING THEIR HIDES OUT ON THE LINE - HANGING IT OUT OVER THE EDGE - PUSHING THAT ENVELOPE - AND HAULING IT IN. (thoughtful, faraway) BUT THERE WAS ONE PILOT I ONCE SAW WHO I THINK TRULY DID HAVE THE RIGHT--
Voice of Journalist: (shouts) HOW CLOSE WERE YOU TO NOT HAULING IT BACK?!
Cooper: (looks around, pause, realizes what's called for, grin) WHO WAS THE BEST PILOT I EVER SAW? WELL, UH...(big grin) YOU'RE LOOKING AT HIM.

Personally I'd suggest YHF on 180 gram vinyl, the demos; while great versions aren't great quality, they've got an analog generation or 2 in there. Try searching out some live stuff, there's been some great tapes made of some of the recent shows (i.e. a DSBD / AUD Matrix from the 9:30 Club). Anyway, here's an article talking about your point...
