gah i just realized it's good friday!! i live in a heavily italian stretch of brooklyn and there are hundreds of people marching down my block and holding big wooden crosses and umbrellas! then they stopped moving and settled on my corner. now a catholic church priest is giving a sermon and there's a dude singing religious music (in latin?) really loud through a megaphone!

what do i do? i closed all my windows and am blasting "impeach the president"!

i thought a wooden cross was some sort of vampire talisman, right? or do i have that part wrong? i was super confused to see people carrying them!

geeta (geeta), Friday, 14 April 2006 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Perhaps these folks have some advice for you: www.waroneaster.org

You've heard there are still Christians in contemporary America, geeta? or has the media conspiracy to render them invisible done its work?

Those Filipinos are hardcore worshippers. Makes Stations of the Cross look like a cakewalk.

This happens every weekend on Graham Ave.

Lean out your window and shout "Give us Barrabas!"

Forget the cops--this is a job for Homeland Security: "Swarthy religious militants are gathering outside my apartment. They're speaking some strange foreign language I don't understand, but I think I heard them say something about lynching a Jew."

In Italian/Tagalog.

I don't find that metaphor very reassuring. Every umbrella I've ever had lasts about a week if I'm lucky, before the wind flips it inside out or the spokes snap or something.

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Just like Jesus.

phil d. (Phil D.), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:11 (twenty years ago)

let a frown be your umbrella

dave vire think (dave225.3), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:15 (twenty years ago)

I've gone on a Good Friday wooden-cross march with gay Catholics in the West Village, and let me tellya you get priceless looks from all the pagan vampires.

I think the only loud obnoxious Easter celebration I may have to worry about is the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence 27th Annual Easter Egg hunt (and maybe the pentacostal mexi-church next door, if they're really rockin)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Geeta? Are you safe? What's happening out there?

Martin Van Buren (Martin Van Buren), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:43 (twenty years ago)

geeta this has happened to me more than once. My only advice is to just leave your house and run far away because no amount of blasting music helps.

Allyzay Rofflesbot (allyzay), Friday, 14 April 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)
