Defend the indefensible. Geir

OK, I know this could go badly, but :

Rule 1: It's called "Defend the indefensible". So, if you come not to do this, you may read, but not add.

1: Despite disagreeing with 99 out of 100 things he ever says, I admire his breadth of musical listening. He may be almost always wrong, but he always seems to know the band/music/song/whatever.

2. He is unfailingly polite despite some pretty virulent abuse.

Also he likes a lot of very good music, and if he just stuck to commenting on the stuff he liked we'd all be very fond of him.

(NB Geir if you want this thread locked or deleted then it's within yr rights to ask for that.)

3. In spite of being a total divvy, nice people feel the need to defend him.

It's funny that you should say lame and boring in this thread, because...

5. his persistence is as admirable as it is frustrating
6. his own music is OK!

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 10 March 2006 10:51 (nineteen years ago)

Geir is my subconscious, rockist alter-ego. He appeals to my "enjoy music for its melody" side. It's good to hear from that side occasionally.

Dave will do (dave225.3), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:28 (nineteen years ago)

8. He loves some great prog rock albums (despite using them in service of defending some woefully dogmatic musical ideologies), and his tastes are more similar to mine than I would care to face. :) Tom's #2 also OTM.

Joe (Joe), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:34 (nineteen years ago)

9. He likes English psychedelia and "Aerial Ballet" by Harry Nilsson

10. But he does not like coloureds musics.

10a. though he claims not to be a "rascist."

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:40 (nineteen years ago)

No matter how wrongheaded some of the things Geir says can be, I get more bored with the kicking he gets. And he's still here in spite of the fact that some people might be inclined to talk around him in a DNFTT kind of way, and he's none the nastier for that sort of abuse, plus I'm in agreement with him at least in regard to certain bands he likes (Rundgren for ever, Coldplay never).

Lotta Continua (Damian), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:42 (nineteen years ago)

Yes, Geir-bashing is becoming more and more boring. His biggest flaw is not his alleged racism, but his love for Coldplay.

all done before really though: Geir Hongro - Classic or Dud?

Konal Doddz (blueski), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:46 (nineteen years ago)

10. But he does not like coloureds musics.

Music doesn't have a skin colour.

I dislike R&B, hip-hop and blues, am not too fond of soul. That doesn't have anything to do with skin colour though, and I also dislike music in the same genres made by white people.

Geir Hongro (GeirHong), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:49 (nineteen years ago)

So you hate black music when it's made by white people too?

Rotatey Diskers With Dadaismus (Dada), Friday, 10 March 2006 13:53 (nineteen years ago)

how boring

Then again Geir never called Cornelius a "Jap twat". I guess that's #11.
