Please remeber to link the FAQs to this new one.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know how unfortunately

mark s (mark s), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Here is the FAQ.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:17 (twenty-two years ago)

*slightly embarrassed*

how does one type in italics?

Christopher William Radford (Chris Radford), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:36 (twenty-two years ago)

....... where the square brackets are the pointy brackets all pointy pointy.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

where the square brackets are the pointy brackets all pointy pointy. = <i>where the square brackets are the pointy brackets all pointy pointy.</i>

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

FAQ updated: it refers technical questions to Graham for the moment, until someone else steps up.

HTML questions shd probably not go on the shouting for the moderator thread seeing as even 12 millimeter lizards can answer them!

mark s (mark s), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

cheers dan and pete!

apologies mark

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Friday, 13 June 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Archel (Archel), Friday, 13 June 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, Jess is messing with my posts on the Truckers with Indie Hats thread. I'm perfectly happy to spar with Jess -- hell, he's so offensive you can't help it -- but not if he can actually go into the HTML to make himself look less foolish after the event, and then mess around with my HTML when I point out that this makes my subsequent posts senseless (eg this, which he may even have changed back by now, who knows):

'(I see Jess has used his moderator privilegesgodlike powers to make himself look less foolishsuper duper by going in after the fact to correct his 'famers manual' spelling blunder.piss me off. It makes my subsequent entry look a little odd, but I shouldn't think Jess really minds that.)

Momus'

This is a clear abuse of moderator powers.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:28 (twenty-two years ago)

mark s sez he doesn't want to deal with me so he told me to turn myself over to the proper authorities

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

(i changed it back, you big baby)

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Please don't do it again, Jess, because it's only the possibility of losing which makes the game worth playing, and how can you ever lose if your spider skills allow you to leap from building to building, correct spelling mistakes, etc?

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Ask Gwen Stacy and Uncle Ben.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

"with great power comes great temptation to fuck around with momus"

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

"With each six-pack of Coca-Cola comes great temptation to fuck around with Momus, plus a chance to win $1,000,000"

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Spider Man Pic

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Han överrumplade mig totalt

I know that feeling, Spidey.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:20 (twenty-two years ago)

what i want to know is why is peter naked in the bottom of the panel

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

With each six-pack of Coca-Cola comes great temptation to fuck around with Momus, plus a chance to win $1,000,000

If Jess wins I want him to pledge to donate that money to the Plaster Caster Foundation.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:23 (twenty-two years ago)

he just got probed by Doc Ock

H (Heruy), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, I saw that abuse-of-power by Jess. My position was that it was indeed an unwarranted abuse of his privileges, but since it was Momus I thought it was okay. And it was very funny.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Could we keep this thread mostly image free for faster loading please.
It will help us handle things when we get a rash of tubgirl pics being posted.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

My position was that it was indeed an unwarranted abuse of his privileges, but since it was Momus I thought it was okay.

You need the laughs more than I need the respect, that's for sure Martin.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry Noodles!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:42 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Momus, Martin deserves the laughs more than you deserve the respect.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

That was unnecessarily nasty, I'm sorry. I regretted posting it as soon as I hit the button. Please ignore.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Carry on, Emma. I only blink when someone is being

a) intelligent
b) generous

We should probably stop cluttering up the area around the fire bell in case there's a drill or something.

Momus (Momus), Friday, 13 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Ha! I was confused by the Emma comment until I realized that's what my email address says. No, my name is the same as yours, Momus, and my email address is backwards to prevent googlization.

NA. (Nick A.), Friday, 13 June 2003 18:33 (twenty-two years ago)

could some one please delete the link I posted on HERE. PLEASE!

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello!

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

thank you!

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 18 June 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Can the URGENT REQUEST FOR NEW YORKER ILX0RS thread please be re-titled to indicate that the urgency has long passed? Thanks.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Saturday, 21 June 2003 12:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Much obliged if a moderator could delete this thread. I'd be even more grateful if a moderator or someone could delete my current feelings of irritability, loneliness, and sulkiness.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Cheer up! I dreamt the other day that "j.lu" was somehow code for "Julian Barnes". That will teach me to try cryptic crosswords in bed.

Sam (chirombo), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 10:48 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd rather not delete it j.lu, it doesn't really fall under Appropriate Deletion Conditions

just let it fall into disuse, or else turn it into something else...

(i think yr posts are always sensible and pertinent btw: "threadkiller" sometimes = "why post when j.lu just said it so well?")

(plus i am still feeling guilty that long long LONG ago i teasingly cited you as the poster most responsible for evil on ile, the point of the joke being that it seemed to me obv to EVERYTHING that you were SO NOT THIS!!)

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 11:05 (twenty-two years ago)

plus i am still feeling guilty that long long LONG ago i teasingly cited you as the poster most responsible for evil on ile

1) I don't remember this.

2) I'd actually be flattered if you meant it, because it would mean that I had made some sort of memorable impression on someone.

j.lu (j.lu), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 22:56 (twenty-two years ago)

you've made a memorable impression on me!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 23:05 (twenty-two years ago)

j.lu roxx u r all not blessed with memorable acronyms

jess (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 25 June 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Can someone please re-size the pic i posted of james dean on the smoking thread? Ta & sorry! :-)

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 June 2003 11:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Pinkpanther, resizing the pic doesn't change how big it is in terms of downloading, just how large it displays, so huge pics take the same time to download even if they are shown at small size. If it's too big we can change it to a link instead, if you like. I'm at work now so everything loads quickly...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 June 2003 12:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh right, leave it then. Oh & pls ignore the fact that I'm an idiot when it comes to techie things.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 27 June 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Knowing less than me about computer stuff is not quite tech-idiocy (I'm one of quite a lot here who work with the things).

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 June 2003 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, you posted a link to an image. That's more than most. Definately not "idiocy".

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 27 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Hullo, I fucked up visibly here Manchester Man has same phone number as God , if a kindly mod could please fix the HTML then I'd be grateful, and make an effort to always say nice things about them at all times

Matt (Matt), Monday, 30 June 2003 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Done, I think.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

You think? God, these moderators are getting worse and worse...

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hush, you. ;) I wasn't sure if that was exactly the fix he had in mind, though it certainly made the post look a lot better.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 00:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Exactly right, thank you.

Matt (Matt), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 14:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Kiss ass.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Heavens! Someone needs to unbreak an HTML Tag in the "Heavens!..." thread ;-)

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 1 July 2003 21:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I've accidentally duplicated a post on the IL* Challenge thread under my own name - if its within the remit for these things any chance you could remove the first one?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Friday, 4 July 2003 08:49 (twenty-one years ago)

no no matt its funny.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh well, it's done now. Sorry/my pleasure

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 4 July 2003 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Hasn't this worthless dillweed sort of progressed beyond being just a mildly annoying imbecile?

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Saturday, 5 July 2003 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I think your description of him is generally accurate and fair, and although I agree that that post is not an acceptable way to address someone on ILX, I'm disinclined to delete it until and unless the person being so addressed/harassed asks me to. I have written to faggotry (don't know if it's a real email address, of course) to say that this is not acceptable, but I've no idea if that will get us anywhere.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 5 July 2003 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

way to be approached by the sophisticated mr diamond. who will correct mr diamonds harsh brutalities? i suspect no-one.

worthless dillweed, sure.

martin, haven't recieved your e-mail yet, but i will check pronto.

being an equal asshole about it will not make me go away any faster, really.

do you really think i cannot come back?

faggotry (faggotry), Saturday, 5 July 2003 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Will someone please delete my drunken indiscretions on this thread?

I don't forsee any problems but then I don't want to ask for them either.

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 5 July 2003 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Have removed your phone number from that thread sam! Wahoo, my first bit of useful moderating!

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 5 July 2003 19:33 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks jel! :)

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 5 July 2003 19:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, fuck it, I refuse to apologize to you,f.

Of course, I've had my share of regrettable posts to ILx. And these were largely due to being drunk and obnoxious; but, quite frankly, it doesn't get anymore reprehinsible than the way you addressed an ILXor. Di is way fucking cool. Your loutish persona is a fucking joke. You have NO right to address anyone in that manner, fuckwad.

Honestly, I can't believe that other ILX0rs do not have a problem with your moniker. I can only think that people have become sort of lazy about cottining it. Sad.

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Sunday, 6 July 2003 04:08 (twenty-one years ago)

As someone who appreciates a sweltering mass, I think his moniker's hilarious. Relax, man. Let the people to whom the offense was commited do the getting offended.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 6 July 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

haha - Kenan = German people circa 1930s

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 6 July 2003 04:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ew.

TS: dick jokes vs. concentration camp jokes

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Sunday, 6 July 2003 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

What the hell is the problem with the name "faggotry" ? It's fantastic.

Andrew (enneff), Sunday, 6 July 2003 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Somewhat off topic here ...

I seem to have missed-out on the transfer of "administrator" from Graham to ____ to ____. When one hits the link to contact the site administrator, the mail still goes to Graham - and while I like Graham and have no problem sending him email, I'd like to have any sort of administrator issue emails sent to the right person, whoever (or whomever?) that might be. So, um, who is in charge these days?

Oh, and so far as screennames are concerned - well, it seems to me that we all have the right to protray ourselves as we choose - and who is anyone else to criticize us for those choices? I mean, condem me for my actions, not my name, please.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 6 July 2003 05:29 (twenty-one years ago)

mark s is the man to see probably

James Blount (James Blount), Sunday, 6 July 2003 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks, James. Much appreciated.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Sunday, 6 July 2003 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

''Honestly, I can't believe that other ILX0rs do not have a problem with your moniker. I can only think that people have become sort of lazy about cottining it. Sad.''

trolls are to be ignored (can you tell i've been here for a while?) and that's it. faggotry is harmless.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Sunday, 6 July 2003 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

faggotry is of no consequence. nothing to see here

gareth (gareth), Sunday, 6 July 2003 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

gareth tells the truth. i'm just a posting fag of no consequence.

calm down my people. call me a fuck, a fag, a piece of shit, whatever! i'm sorry, i apologize, i typed this incorrectly.. i make no sense... not even capitols (ha, capitals)! ban me! delete my posts! i was so wrong.

i'll try to never post? sheesh...

i really didn't realize that my posts meant so much.

but cheers. even you mr diamond.

faggotry (faggotry), Sunday, 6 July 2003 21:30 (twenty-one years ago)

My other name got use on this thread. Please delete!

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Um - will someone please delete my last post on this thread:

Dizzying excess of vulgarity -- C or D?

I cross posted and thought I was on the say something offensive thread, and what I posted would have worked there, but not where it ended-up.

Thanks.

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Er - um - please cancel that last request. Everything is cool and copasetic and stuff. Thanks anyway *smiling*

I'm Passing Open Windows (Ms Laura), Monday, 7 July 2003 03:45 (twenty-one years ago)

rosemary: Done.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 7 July 2003 04:14 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry faggotry, i didnt mean to offend, it wasnt meant in a bad way. i only meant theres no big deal here, there is nothing of any bad consequence, theres nothing to get all het up about. your posts are no different from mine really

gareth (gareth), Monday, 7 July 2003 08:34 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks, felicity!

rosemary (rosemary), Monday, 7 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

theres nothing to get all het up about

Or even lez up.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 7 July 2003 16:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm very tired and I accidentally posted mosquito(e?)s to ILM. Anyone with the chops can just delete the thing.

thank you! your friend s1utsky!

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 02:52 (twenty-one years ago)

s1utsky you owe all mosquitoes an apology for that grossly insensitive thread. for shame.

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

they are our enemies! I feel no shame!

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:02 (twenty-one years ago)

If you want to post a new thread to ILE, slutsky, we can lock the other one and link it to the new thread.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:04 (twenty-one years ago)

New thread posted, link made, awaiting lock order.

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

SHUT 'ER DOWN

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Done done and done.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:08 (twenty-one years ago)

swatted like a true pro

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

nice one!

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I still rosemary's real name on that photo thread.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was going to make a DEET joke but it just wasn't happening)

s1utsky (slutsky), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

NYC FAP Photos (picture thread)

wrong rosemary name here

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I've corrected that name.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

would a moderator kindly delete this outburst of mine?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

NO DONT DELETE IT! HE'S HAD IT COMING FOR TOO LONG!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Keep it! He deserves it!

Haha cross post.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Tico Tico is correct: in fact we have committed the outburst to memory and will deliver it in person at the FAP tonight, by the deadly means of CLOSE HARMONY SINGING

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, he's right up his own arse.

Oh.

I'd sign it under fair comment actually.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I will not delete it, kindly or otherwise. It is one of my few pleasures in life.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:53 (twenty-one years ago)

(the male catfight, I mean, not the spitefulness of small power plays)

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:54 (twenty-one years ago)

power play?

Chris Radford (Chris Radford), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I was attempting to clarify that turning down a request for deletion is not that which gives me pleasure. I'm going to delete my unclear antecedent now.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

there really are too many moderators around here, it seems. it's like, u can just be talking innocently to one of your ilx phriends, and before u know it, he/she lurches out and deletes something somewhere, making u feel so less powerful as you realize that he/she has been a secret moderator all along. it's like living a double-life.

who here is *not* a moderator? or is there any list of who is ?

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

NON-ILX MODERATORS:

Vic
... *tumbleweeds*

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, fair enough, F. I have no idea who I was picking on; is he some kind of ILX mascot or something?

amateurist (amateurist), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

More of a bogeyman.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

ok ya'll, it's, like, me and dada as non-moderators and the rest of you who are ...TS?

we win!!

Vic (Vic), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

have no idea who I was picking on; is he some kind of ILX mascot or something?

Ha ha, I haven't earned the right to categorize Ptee, but it's not like he's a multimational mogul or anything.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

He's not?

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Arrghh.... Apologies for the name confusion Rosemary.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

(Since Rosemary isn't your real name anyway, can I call you Parsley?)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

marjoram

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 8 July 2003 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't you dis my multimational - I've got tendrils everywhere.

Pete (Pete), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:40 (twenty-one years ago)

shut it mascot

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:44 (twenty-one years ago)

someone might wanna give kate a hand or some medication or company or something on Uglification and Derision

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:47 (twenty-one years ago)

No, that's OK, me and Jason are just fine by ourselves.

http://1.im.cz/img_novinky/spirit02.gif

kate (kate), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:48 (twenty-one years ago)

they lopped off his head!

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Dammit, could some kind moderator kindly fix the Alex James image on this thread by putting in the I? Cheers...

kate (kate), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 09:34 (twenty-one years ago)

That would be THIS thread:

Uglification and Derision

kate (kate), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

check

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Mwah! Mwah! I kiss you!

kate (kate), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 10:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Could someone resize or remove the really huge picture I posted on the robot thread? I didn't know it would turn out so big.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Okay, moderating out the giant Tom Selleck pic on the Threadkillah! thread was completely unnecessary IMO.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:10 (twenty-one years ago)

it crashed my machine dan and i'm using broadband

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ok now dada is posting photos to every single new thread. this is going to cause major problems for those of us with slow connections. it was funny for a few hours.

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

it was an embed obliterating the entire thread: ie same as if you or i had locked it to "win"

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 9 July 2003 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

The problem is that Dada is doing something really interesting (I mean, not every post is golden, but overall...) and yet it's formally irksome to... um, to those who have slow connections and can't be arsed to change their setting to "turn images into links", I guess. Does that setting not work or something?

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:54 (twenty-one years ago)

no offense to either party, but the Dada stuff reminds alot of Custos in rimshot mode

James Blount (James Blount), Thursday, 10 July 2003 05:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Chris, I don't want to turn that setting on b/c the average ILx user does not abuse photo posting to warrant this. Why should I miss out on everyone else's photos b/c Dada is completely overkill?

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 06:11 (twenty-one years ago)

but you don't really miss out, you can view any photos you want to by clicking on them. at least has merit as a temporary solution

ron (ron), Thursday, 10 July 2003 06:28 (twenty-one years ago)

But how do you know which ones you want to click on??

Many of us occasionally post pics that add to the goodness of a thread. I don't want to be forced to miss out on this occasional pleasant surprise b/c some asshole can't think of anything else to do.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 10 July 2003 06:32 (twenty-one years ago)

don't get me wrong i totally know where yr coming from. as chris points out, dada occasionally posts pics that add to the goodness of threads. (though i'd say the nature of the gimmick will make that less and less the case with each post)

ron (ron), Thursday, 10 July 2003 06:51 (twenty-one years ago)

have the brains around here or the isp investigators, etc finally figured out who this person is yet ? ned?

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 10 July 2003 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I've had to change my settings to 'turn images into links' which I suppose is no big deal but I feel a little sore about it. I liked seeing the odd picture come up.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 10 July 2003 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

As Dada is a very new poster, initially there is going to be a huge burst of activity. Probably s/he will settle down into a more regular pattern of posting that will be managable and acceptible to other posters. Give him/her some time, and if this continues to be a problem, then I think we should address it.

Because I've generally been quite pleased with Dada's occasional contributions.

kate (kate), Thursday, 10 July 2003 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone tell me if "Did anybody else cry at the end of the 25th hour?" has 24 spoilers in it?

Ed (dali), Thursday, 10 July 2003 10:11 (twenty-one years ago)

No I surmise that thread's about a cinema film called the 25th Hour.

My understanding of 24 is that a 25th hour would rather spoil the concept. But maybe you were asking about the specific number of "25th Hour" spoilers there are in that thread, in which case the answer is still no, but may be yes later.

I am not a moderator but am happy to provide this service.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 10 July 2003 10:17 (twenty-one years ago)

My feeling on dada is that some of the pics are good contributions, and as someone on a dial-up at home, it's not even the frequency of them that's a problem - it's that some of them are really colossal, like hundreds of times the size of regular pics. I don't want pics that take half an hour to download. Plus the instance on the Threadkiller thread, which was just abusive. If those small-minority cases were eliminated, I would have no problems - though I'd happily live without most of the pics, many of which make no real contribution and aren't intrinsically interesting.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 10 July 2003 10:29 (twenty-one years ago)

If the ISP is any indication, Dada is a completely new poster. Beyond that, nothing is known.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 10 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

sigh, mark - "someone"'s whining you're a nazi again

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

And this time in ALL CAPS!!!! Oh joy.

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it is his way of saying Mark S. is sexxxy.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Songs about women that think they're sensitive/caring but are actually skeevy/misogynist/sexist was a thread that I was waiting to be ruined by him for a long time...

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:23 (twenty-one years ago)

man, ilx moderators ain't nothing to fuck with!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

congrats congrats I am in awe

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

kate - open sesame!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

meanwhile, ilx moderators: engage!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that what that was about? Ah dearie me.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, he's posting all over all kinds a threads now - see here.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

(I would like to opine that if the original thread had been left alone rather than deleted, the progressively uglier ones wouldn't have happened.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

so what now?

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

(they haven't gotten progressively uglier have they?)(I didn't see the original - too fast for me! - but the successors have been identical no?)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

they looked pretty identical to me

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

(JBR: follow mark's lead. at his signal, unleash hell.)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It's an identical message on about 10 threads. If we kill one, we really need to kill them all. (And yes, I fully support killing them all.)

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

(me too. use 'search' option to initiate 'kitchen light: cockroach scurry')

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Kate is james hetfield shockah!

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The latest incarnation of the thread which was deleted started making personal swipes at specific posters.

The whole situation bothers me because I base a good amount of my schtick on hyperbolic filth and while I don't think Spooner is particularly funny or anything I do have to wonder why it seems like I can get away with it but he can't.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

(I would like to disagree with Dan. Hi Dan!)

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

James has fluffier sideburns.

Dan: because you are friendly and Spooner is evil.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I was disagreeing with Dan's previous comment not that one. I think Ned's right although sideburn talk confuses me.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:58 (twenty-one years ago)

We've been through this before with regards to my own occasional filth.

-Posters such as Dan, myself, etc. are capable of occasional filth in bursts of funniness, yet it is not the ONLY schtick that we ever contribute to the board. We are members of the community, we don't just drop in to provoke posters like little boys pulling the wings off of flies
-Posters such as Dan, myself, etc. (except for a few regrettable drunken or emotional outbursts) generally DON'T insult or personally attack other posters

I can't really quantify or qualify the difference, but there is a difference. Perhaps simple the fact that the behaviour of and moderation of posters like Spooner makes us THINK about what we are doing, rather than just continuing it blindly.

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 14:59 (twenty-one years ago)

MAYBE U SHOULD ASK OTHER POSTERS WHO USE THESE BOARDS IF THEY WANT A THREAD DELETED BEFORE U ACTUALLY DELETE IT

sean g, Friday, 11 July 2003 15:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Grow up, "Sean".

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

So Tim, you think if we hadn't ignored the original Gwyenth thread, he still would have posted two others titled "Return of the Gwyneth thread" with nasty comments in them and then posted "Return of the Gwyneth thread" in all-caps to eight others?

Also, while filth is predominantly what Spooner has offered, it isn't the only thing he's offered. (James's search shows that.)

I'm not complaining about being in the ILX clique, mind you; it's just that I never really thought of one actually existing and I generally like to try to talk to everyone. (This is how the online me is markedly different from the real-life me.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Sean, why are you shouting? The rules of the boards are quite clear and grossly distended rehearsals of the "delete" / "don't delete" argument will only ever be boring.

Dan: he'd have said something else just as tedious and I think as a kind of sign of boundaries of acceptability deletion is a good thing in that case.

Tim (Tim), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan - you think he wouldn't have? this is someone who clearly WILL NOT BE IGNORED < / glenn close>

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:07 (twenty-one years ago)

do we need to rehash mark s' dictum everytime or do we need to rehash the preface pseudo-free speech discussion first?

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:08 (twenty-one years ago)

James B OTM - use the search function and revive the 9000 old threads about free speech on a private forum if you want. Meanwhile the mods will and should delete anything this tosser posts.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, I see yr point, but yr markedly funnier. And there's many other reasons, as above I guess... I just follow ILX mod rules as laid down by Tom/Mark, and they seem like perfectly good ones. I don't think Calum's a difficult enough case to warrant worrying about on this sort of level, maybe someone will be one day (maybe Dada already is?).

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

The first thread did continue to get worse and worse as he just waited for us to delete it and was as bad as the ones that followed it. His only reason for posting it was to get it deleted and to tell you the truth Im getting paid while Im hitting refresh every minute or two so it doesn't bother me playing his little game.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Free Speech for sean, and the general public's reaction here.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:17 (twenty-one years ago)

it's like cloak and dagger!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You missed some, Noodles!

kate (kate), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:19 (twenty-one years ago)

with Cal, um, Spooner as the imaginary Dabney Coleman and yr. friendly neighborhood moderator as the real Dabney Coleman!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Poor old Raymond Scott! To see his thread so traduced!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:24 (twenty-one years ago)

(The whole "whacking-a-hornet's-nest-until-it-stings-you" analogy is just as applicable to the moderators as it is to the participants in The Fight, you know...)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:47 (twenty-one years ago)

(but the moderator's got beekeeper suits)

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 15:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes it's me, and I know I said I'd not come back but I need a favour...

Could someone with ILM admin privileges delete the dickish posts in this thread, please?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:00 (twenty-one years ago)

which are those dan?

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yours, for one.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i figured. mr. decorum.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

The rules cut both ways; posts that are trying to stir up bad feelings are supposed to get deleted.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, you're right, you should delete it. it was an oblique reference to the boy who cried wolf, btw.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't see anything that merits deletion, Dan. Is that really a rule? I think it's a matter of degree. This is just a supposedly humourous sly dig. ILE is full of that stuff.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

"supposedly humorous" nails it.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I should say that I am against deleting every thread Calum posts, just because they are by him. I am all in favour of deleting all his repetitive and stupid misogyny, and his threads whining that we delete same, but that one he started about strawberries was fine (possibly despite his intent) - if he revisited and started whining again, get rid of that. He has caused too much trouble and been too much of an arsehole to deserve more consideration. We should consider banning his whole IP domain too, though that would freeze out anyone else who happens to work for his employers.

I still think we should be keeping copies of his more abusive stuff. We might consider threatening to send highlights to his employers, with times and dates, pointing out that he is posting this stuff from their machines.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:24 (twenty-one years ago)

whoah, martin, a lot of stuff we all write would probably be considered outside the bounds of what our employers would like us to be doing at work!

also the offending posts on the calum thread were mine, not calum's (for a change).

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 11 July 2003 18:25 (twenty-one years ago)

what a weird coincidence that he should post on the same day all the spooner stuff goes down!

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 11 July 2003 20:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I posted a thread on ILM that seemed like a less-than-terrible idea at the time, but I've since been convinced I was wrong. Could you erase it? Thanks.

(Why do I even bother? I want to sit in the back of the bus too...)

Prude (Prude), Monday, 14 July 2003 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone delete my pictures near the bottom of this thread: NYC FAP Photos (picture thread). I don't know if they are messing things up by being so big, I'm going to shrink them and repost. Thanks.

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 14 July 2003 11:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Prude, there was nothing wrong with your thread. Don't let nasty Josh browbeat you. I'm not deleting it.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 14 July 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

That Girl seems to have posted her phone # again on the "EXCELSIOR" thread. Not that it's my business, but I can't imagine she wants to leave it there forever.

Kenan Hebert (kenan), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I've taken initial action on that; I'm assuming That Girl will quickly ask for full action to be taken shortly.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 July 2003 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Does anyone want to help me out? It's fucking up my geocities stuff and my webpage.

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll change them to links k NA?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Done.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Damm Dan is quick on the draw

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:33 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a gift.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

aslong as its not a gif, cause those things are copyrighted.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

That's not what your wife said - boo-yah!

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, and thanks Dan.

NA. (Nick A.), Monday, 14 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

N.- Okay, if you say so. I'm too thin-skinned, which is probably why I don't post very often.

Prude (Prude), Monday, 14 July 2003 14:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Moderator(s) currently around, could you just take away my last post on the dinner party thread? I was good-naturedly jesting with Ally, but now I'm worried if I offended her or anyone else and it's troubling my conscience. I don't want to throw any insinuations around here these days.

Thank you.

Vic (Vic), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:04 (twenty-one years ago)

seems a bit unnecessary since I A) already saw it B) don't particularly care??? WTF? Not offensive to me!

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok then leave it there, I quite like my work, honestly. See if you can put it up a bit higher, maybe cast it over in bold. Easy on the typing - I spent a hell of a lot of time getting that fucking spelling right, what with my typo-frequency on here!! Oh, and you can put a few emphatic spaces in between some of the words if you want to. Just be CAREFUL!!!!

Vic (Vic), Monday, 14 July 2003 16:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the chuy loco posts viewed here and here strike me as vaguely racist, 'vaguely' cuz chuy doesn't quite seem to have his stereotypes down ("mang" and "joo" tend to be more stereotypical cuban). anyhow, fyi

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

james i think it makes more sense to call mr loco on this if you feel strongly (the subtlety is surely over the heads of all outlander mods anyway)

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 08:09 (twenty-one years ago)

eh, my vigilante days are over

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 08:11 (twenty-one years ago)

and to be honest it might be more due to....wait for it...oversensitivity on my part

James Blount (James Blount), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Pls can you delete the pic I just put on the 'Best Men' thread. I could see it earlier, but now I cant, but anyways, I don't mind pics of me on the net but, well u know. Cheers! Sorry to be a pain!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

link?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

sure thing.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanx, you're a star!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you remove the name of the bar I suggested from this post.

Tiga at Bugged Out @ The End: Jul19

It's meant to be a secret.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I am very star.

Ed, that whay you want or did I screw it up (I saved the text just in case)

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Also this

Tiga at Bugged Out @ The End: Jul19

three posts above the original one

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

wtf?

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

technically its a private members' bar but they play a little fast and loose with the terms private and members'.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Is that right, then?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

perfect. Thanks

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Private members bars aren't secret though.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes I think it should be in giant flashing letters on the front page with "(ED TOLD US)" in brackets.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:30 (twenty-one years ago)

All must turn up there sporting hats emblazoned with this logo.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:36 (twenty-one years ago)

In addition, pictures of Ed on the hats would make things clearer.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Fake lustrous blonde dreadlocks emmanating from the back of the hats would make the look complete.

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

An actual shout, not taking the piss out of Ed:

IT'S ON MY THREAD, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF, EEEUUUWWW!!!

In Praise of Kate St. Clair

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:05 (twenty-one years ago)

you wanted hatton wall deleted? i dont understand. i dont want to go if it is too good for the general public

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I've been Sp00nered. I feel unclean. GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF, GET IT OFF!!!

(If this were a 50's sitcom, I'd be perched on a chair holding my skirts and shrieking about a mouse running around the kitchen.)

kate (kate), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

What is going on with the code? At the bottom of the "Heavens! ILX is slow and frustrating ;)" thread there was an admin log of actions taken by Graham today.

I also tried posting something in another thread and it wouldn't let me, so I was wondering if the code is being messed with.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:22 (twenty-one years ago)

The general public are welcome, the licenscing authorities are not.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 15:23 (twenty-one years ago)

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Heavens! ILX is slow and frustrating ;)
"12:05 PM, 16 Jul 03 Message 3689862 deleted by Graham
12:05 PM, 16 Jul 03 Message 3689862 deleted by Graham"

Didn't we fix this problem?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 16:47 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't check whether the message was already deleted or not, hence the duplicate if you reload or click back or something. I guess it wouldn't be that hard to fix.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Thats not the problem Graham, care to guess again?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

You're a cunt?

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 17:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh you mean me using my software backdoor to systematically oppress comments that aren't to my liking. Sorry about that.

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Graham is your address stil the same? I would like to send you a CD.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, rather then drag this the fuck out, why are you still holding admin privledges?
This is SHOUTING-for-MODERATOR thread pt. III!! [derailed: go to thread IV]

Oh you mean me using my software backdoor to systematically oppress comments that aren't to my liking. Sorry about that.

I don't know you, I don't put it past you.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:08 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know. The only way to remove them is from the database and I don't have a password for that any more.

(I posted a stupid message and removed it ten minutes later. No conspiracy. I was too busy trying to make everything work to have time for back doors. About the worst I can do is kill long searches, and that gets old pretty quick)

(No Ally, I'll email you)

Graham (graham), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Please do Graham! :)

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 18:15 (twenty-one years ago)

regarding graham's post to that thread about speeding ilx up: if certain administrative actions are a major factor then it would certainly help to request that the 4 million people with moderator privileges don't just use them in order to tidy up after themselves. I was looking around on the log page the other day and a surprising number of moderator actions involved changes to posts that the moderator in question made.

although I did this a few times myself when I was a moderator I must say, besides the extra load on the server this just does not seem that cool.

Josh (Josh), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 20:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I am am bad culprit of this (tidying up typos, making wording better immediately after posting, though not later cause that seems like cheating). I did not stop to think that it might slow down the server. I will stop.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 21:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Good show, old boy, have a slug.

nabisco (nabisco), Wednesday, 16 July 2003 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes don't do that moderators, he says hypocritically. (I didn't do it much, actually, and certainly not for typos.)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 17 July 2003 07:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Just a question, are there some scheduled tasks on the server that occur between midnight and 3 aussie time, because that my explain the slowdown around this time. (and of course, the meeting off last hour of UK work, NYC lunchtime and just in the office westcoast)

Ed (dali), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah crap, I'll stop too

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the long searches are the real pain, they accumulate, then they slow down the newanswers caching, and THAT then slows down all requests based on newanswers, so all these things snowball into a, er, logjam (can you snowball into a log jam, mm jam. paper jam is my favourite)

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 17 July 2003 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Are all searches long searches, or are there any tips for getting them quicker? Because it's not like the punters are crying out to be staring at a blank screen for minutes.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The more common the word and the more search terms you use, the longer the search. Try to think of one unusual word that appeared/might have appeared in the thread you're after, if possible.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:15 (twenty-one years ago)

There's a Spooner thread on the loose on ILM and it's lasted longer than usual. Can one of the mods please crush him like a puny ant?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Thursday, 17 July 2003 10:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Provide links please.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 17 July 2003 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

No offense intended, but could we not have an error message that reads: "TURN BACK YOU POXY FULE!" Having to read that repeatedly makes me slightly nauseated.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it should say "FUCK!" in enormous 72pt letters in red flashing text t odraw everyone's attention to it within the workplace setting!! Also: midi files and porn.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

How about tubgirl pic?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Midi files OF porn.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

It just sounds too D&D or something.

Rockist Scientist, Thursday, 17 July 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

That is the best error message EVAH! (you poxy fule!)

Chris P (Chris P), Thursday, 17 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Erm, what's happened to the 'search' feature?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

here are the links to the spoonered threads:

POX titties

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Spooner is being personally offensive towards me on the "nice arses" thread. I would ask that his comments about me please be deleted in the interests of good taste. Thank you. But you can leave the stuff about Julian Casablancas, that's far more interesting.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:38 (twenty-one years ago)

delete this thread too:

POX nice arses

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

No! Don't delete that thread! Everything that wasn't him was nice!

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I think graham should always have admin priveleges.

That Girl (thatgirl), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:40 (twenty-one years ago)

its gonna be an effort to just delete his posts bcz he'll keep posting to it but whatever. the links were asked for. i just gave it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Sigh. Can you not delete it, but just delete his offensive post and lock it? I liked Sonic Boom saying I had the 10 best asses in pop.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

heh. like i said. whatever.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:45 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe get the ip (since apparently it's where he works) and e-mail someone else there 'here's what this fucker does on your dime' (or at least threaten too).

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

in any case, some generic ip blowback might be useful.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

also, as I have registered the e-mail address spoonered@excite.com, I must profess outrage, OUTRAGE!, at someone posting using that e-mail address. ahem. let him use his own addy.

James Blount (James Blount), Friday, 18 July 2003 07:56 (twenty-one years ago)

(I was going to post this on the "Nice Arses" thread, but it's now locked (why?), might as well post it here. So this is about Spoonered.)

But he used to be capable of sensible conversation too, I remember. Call me a hippie, but I've always thought reasoning with someone (if it's possible, and in this case I still hope it is) is a better option than being aggressive towards him (=deleting half of his posts). It'll just make him more convinced that we are pseudo-liberal Fascists, and he'll keep on coming in more and more oppressive incarnations.

Please, "Spooner", prove me I'm not wrong.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

If we hadn't tried a bunch of other options first, do you think we would still be reduced to this? This is not something that has been undertaken lightly or without debate.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Isn't it a bit harsh to get in touch with his work? Isn't it just possible to block the ip address?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

yes. it is v harsh. he's harmless.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

i think its fine as it is to just delete his threads.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just trying to summon back the old Calum, who was merely irritating, not aggressive, and at times capable of intelligent conversation. But I guess he's beyond hope now. *sigh*

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

By the way, how do you know he posts from work?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 18 July 2003 08:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i think it's a lost cause tuomas: also it's rubbish that calum wasn't aggressive — he turned into "spooner" the moment someone argued with him (especially a woman): his idea of "free speech" has always been absolute prtoection of free speech for HIM but the moment anyone says something HE dislikes he was calling out for it to be deleted by the moderators or for other posters to be banned — and taking up a lot of our time doing this

i'm trying to find the recent ADMIN page which explains the decision in full, but search is disabled and i can't get onto the uncategorised total list at the moment

mark s (mark s), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, but he did post normal, non-irrittating comments as well, and he was at least able to defend his point of view with some sense, even if few agreed with him. This new guy, he doesn't even try.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm feeling kinda evil here - guys I'm not this other chap. I'm a trouble maker, true, but not this other guy. I'll stop this rubbish tho.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:10 (twenty-one years ago)

If you're really telling the truth, great! And, if you want talk about other things than titties and arse, you have at least my blessing.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:14 (twenty-one years ago)

what stopping means = "stop playing deliberate timewasting mindfuck games with the moderators"

mark s (mark s), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Torture a puppy in front of him and we'll soon see if he isn't Calum.

(Now I'm not a moderator I can say really unhelpful things like this!)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 18 July 2003 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone please go change the name reference on this post to the correct psuedonym? I'm sorry!

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't think Tico's identity is a big secret.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:31 (twenty-one years ago)

That post?? It doesnt matter - it's not a secret, it's just my "I'm not in charge so don't ask me to do anything" identity!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:32 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you should revert to Tom for everyday purposes and call yourself Charles if you ever want to be in charge again.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I love you, Nick Dastoor.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:36 (twenty-one years ago)

(anyway I just felt like a jerkoff, I know it's not a big secret BUT neither are several psuedonyms around here but if I went about doing that to them they'd kill me with guns)

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i am changing my name to pika pika :(

pika pika (mark s), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Mark, will you be my little butterfly?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I want to be Tikka Tikka, but I fear I will be eaten!

Tikka Tikka (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:40 (twenty-one years ago)

thats kinda lame pika

luka luka (gareth), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

That's it, I want in.

Monday Monday (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Is this better?

Duran Duran (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Have we all gone mentalist then?

raus raus! fila fila! (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry to talk shop but...
Can someone please tell me if it's possible to post a pic from an email in a hotmail account. I have done it twice now & you can see it for a bit then it seems to disappear, wtf?

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Hurrah!

Knicker Knicker (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Remember Little Caeser's?

Pizza Pizza (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I was going to post that, you bastard Perry.

Temper Temper (Nicole), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

It doesn't work linking images from your hotmail account, because you need to be logged in to hotmail (and you don't want to give us your password, trust me!) to see it. What happens is, you view it in your inbox, you post it here, while the image is still in your webcache, you see it online (even though we don't, because we were never in your inbox) and when it drops out of your webcache, you can no longer see it.

kate (kate), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

PP, hotmail probably retitles the urls of attached pics as your mailbox updates, so it's not a good way to post a pic. Have to get some webspace I think. Do you have a home ISP that gives you any?

Knicker Knicker (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah - what Kate said too. Duh.

Knicker Knicker (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

i am feeling lame today

pika^2 (mark s), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I will put forth my normal offer to house pictures for people if they cannot.

raus raus! fila fila! (mlescaut), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Im sorry kate, but I had to do it.

Taylor Taylor (Mr Noodles), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:55 (twenty-one years ago)

It's a real catch-22, isn't it?

Major Major (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Bucking the trend in a Kim Possible style.

Senoir Senoir Senoir (Mr Noodles), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I might adopt this one permanently

Rikki Tikki Tavi (RickyT), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Sen-wah!

Yapple Dapple! (Dan Perry), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanx Nick, I used the boy's site. I am not totally down with all of this you know, I'm still learning!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:07 (twenty-one years ago)

a great way to get some free image hosting is start a yahoo group. you have to make sure to set it up as a public group

ron (ron), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

there is already an ilx yahoo group

Pizza Pizza (dali), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes but ron, does it allow remotely embedded links to pictures? Yahoo Geocities doesn't.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 18 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone explain what happened to the search feature, and if the old options are going to come back? ILX is so huge now it'd be nice if it had some more choices for filtering content, and search worked well for this, though I suppose if it was slowing the server down too much it might be worthwhile to look into other options. Hope that doesn't sound ungrateful; I know it's free and lots of people have put a lot of effort in and all that.

chester (synkro), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The search function was unfortunately causing some temporary shutdowns of ILX, as you noted, so we're considering changes/upgrades to the server. Fear not, it will return!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 18 July 2003 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks Ned, I just saw Graham's explanation on the other thread too.

My point here really is that I've found the keyword + search-after-this-day or before-this-day features more useful than the new answers page, and wanted to make sure the big lizards knew people appreciated their efforts.

chester (synkro), Friday, 18 July 2003 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

could someone kind please eliminate my email address from the thread about "any SF-area ILXors wanna do a favor for their old pal Neudonym?"

that would be very nice. I'd say ditch the thread entirely but who cares really. plus I want gygax to read my thank you.

Neudonym, Saturday, 19 July 2003 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

done.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 19 July 2003 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

apologies, it's msn groups i'm thinking of :(
you can post them elsewhere as long as you set up the group as public.

ron (ron), Saturday, 19 July 2003 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

you have to use their built-in upload feature rather than doing the ftp route, but other than that it seems to work ok. one small annoyance is that the urls of the pics are insanely long strings of gobbledygook

ron (ron), Saturday, 19 July 2003 00:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I have posted a pic (where the link has broken) on the 'so right then, who do you fancy' thread which was in my hotmail in box. Does this mean people can now gain access to my mail & if so, please can you delete the pic. Someone has asked a question that might have come from my inbox & i am now starting to panic! cheers!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 07:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Hotmail login info isn't contained in the url, so don't worry.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Phew, thanks very much for that N! I was very worried for a moment there!!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:04 (twenty-one years ago)

The reason Mark knew your name is cause of your botched link to somewhere on your hard drive, the path of which has your first name in. Do you want me to delete that?

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh right, yes please! I meant to ask for that to be deleted the other day! cheers!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah I'm pretty dumb, i know!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Monday, 21 July 2003 08:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Could somebody explain what this whole "x-post" and "crosspost" stuff is? I've apparently missed something. I'd search for it, but...

Simon Generic, Tuesday, 22 July 2003 07:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Its just a way of recognising that you've said the same thing as someone who was posting at the same time as you.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post = "oh no what i wrote now has a different meaning bcz you just posted that , but you know what? i'm not going to rewrite it"

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 22 July 2003 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

mastercard advert just lost it's work friendliness.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

whoops sorry about that

ken c, Wednesday, 23 July 2003 12:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Can someone conver these two really huge images into links.

Dorset

Ed (dali), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm having trouble moderating the "favourite animals..." thread to say PICTURE THREAD — it won't save for me. Can another mod try this?

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 24 July 2003 10:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm getting "Subject Save Failed" too

Alan (Alan), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Ich auch.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought an x-post was a thread mutating post.

Pete (Pete), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i can alter other stuff [= i just inserted three dots in my post above to check]

mark s (mark s), Thursday, 24 July 2003 11:55 (twenty-one years ago)

(oops i put this in the wrong moderator thread at first, here it is again)hi moderators... i'm trying to put a picture in my profile and the url won't fit, it gets chopped off short...... do i just have to get a better url or can it be fixed at this end? thanks :)

minna (minna), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Ed: done.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I'll look into it minna.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:52 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks

Ed (dali), Thursday, 24 July 2003 12:59 (twenty-one years ago)

cool thanks mr noodles

minna (minna), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, try again on Monday.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:06 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, shall bump

minna (minna), Thursday, 24 July 2003 13:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Minna, try again when you feel like it - I've widened the field on the web page.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 July 2003 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin it sounds to me like the database is the thing cutting it off - I don't think the form has a length limit.

Graham (graham), Thursday, 24 July 2003 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Does tinyurl.com work with linked images?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:09 (twenty-one years ago)

http://tinyurl.com/hy2q

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes.

Minna - go to http://tinyurl.com, enter the address of your jpg, then use the resulting tinyurl address as your image location instead.

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 24 July 2003 17:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Graham may be right (and thanks!), I'm brand new to this! Is the URL over 75 characters long, Minna? If it is, I will need to widen the database field.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 24 July 2003 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Methinks the 'Calum Judgement' has fallen by the wayside a bit.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 25 July 2003 10:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(TT i just emailed you on the above email but it bounced back twice) (i'm at work)

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Friday, 25 July 2003 10:57 (twenty-one years ago)

luche libre (chaki), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I think there is someone on the The ilx admin situation thread who a couple of posters have a history with (see Tom or Ned) who we really don't want to get a foothold on this board.

If there was ever a case for instant IP banning - Ricardo is it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm scared already, and I have no idea about him other than what you posted. How'd he find that post so quickly?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:13 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah. that's what i'm wondering. i'm not scared tho'.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Christ knows. He was always good at those interweb search things (he was involved in the early Google beta's so he has all that basic code.) The reason we never talk about pre-Ilx (for want of a better word - and certainly the reason why we haven't posted that boards name) was because there was nothing he liked better than bragging about all that shit and what he could do.

Tom knows better than me (and yes, alright Tom you don't have to keep e-mailing me - I know its my fault I shouldn't have mentioned it) - which is why him and Ned never speak of it.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Are his doombots still lurking around, doing his bidding?

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only scared cos people who think they're demonstrating colossal power by being too good at the internet depress me, I think

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Ricardo and Ned, in happier times*:

http://marvelrecharge.tripod.com/preview/doomryurc.jpg

*this was back when Ned was buff and still had short hair.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

u dont have to ban me u fukkers im going i will keep watching though the truth is i was just a depeche mode fan who wanted to talk about the best band ever and all i got was piss taking and nothing has changed ned is a bully space rock spack rock more like and tom boasted about seling violator he can rot in hell its lucky im maturer now or your board would be fukked good

ricardo, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:23 (twenty-one years ago)

im not being funny but please can we ban ricardo. this guy stalked my girlfriend for 2 years, and i had to deal with him in public more than once

regular poster under false name, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I've got in touch with his IP. Fingers crossed we won't be hearing from him again.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

he owns is own ip range i think, somewhere in brixton?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Panto season has started early this year!

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Friday, 25 July 2003 11:32 (twenty-one years ago)

hes behind you!
oh yes he is!
(etc)

joni, Friday, 25 July 2003 11:37 (twenty-one years ago)

In all seriousness, if someone is stalking someone I'm all for banning them. I'm just a joker, don't take me as anything else.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:02 (twenty-one years ago)

thats what ricardo said as well, at first. that was a really messy situation in the end. really fucking strange, to think it all came from just a message board originally

gareth (gareth), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I'm stating my opinion, I don't mean harm to anyone. People who go on a board to cause harm need banning. Just my view. I'll get back to being silly again soon. sorry.

Spoonered (Spoonered), Friday, 25 July 2003 12:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I am bemused by the fact that Larcole assumes I am a large green circle.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm sorry to ruin the fun but as pointed out twice on the top 100 posters thread: can someone please delete the posting of the stats lists? Since it reveals all of our fucking email addresses to all and sundry without needing to log in...

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Done it.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:42 (twenty-one years ago)

(x post sorry tom)

Yes please if there is anyone out there today with both sides of their branes still connected, do that one thing.

Archel (Archel), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Thanks babe. Why the switch back to Tom? Is this like a Clark Kent/Superman scenario?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Nope -

When I'm 'on call' as a mod/admin, it's Tom.

Otherwise it's Tico Tico.

Another administrator needs a break so I volunteered to come back and do my duty by the boards.

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

It's more like the hitman being pulled out of retirement for one last job scenario.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:48 (twenty-one years ago)

More like a cop Nick - can I be saddled with a rookie moderator on my last patrol and have to bring in a dangerous serial troll?

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:49 (twenty-one years ago)

"I made it all up and it came true anyway."

Tom (Groke), Friday, 25 July 2003 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

How do we know if its the real Tom and not an impostor? I propose we put both of them in an electrified maze full of 90s indie CDs and Ayingerbrau round every turn. The evil impostor Tom will die a swift and painful death after clasping hold of the booby-trapped copy of the eponymous Blur album.

Cripes - I shall never lie again if that's the upshot.

There you see, out of a great evil some good may yet come.

james (james), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)

It was such a pretty red button. I just had to push it. I didn't mean no harm.

Pete (Pete), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

One thing I kind of miss about Greenspun now is all of the board shutdowns. I actually think it would be a good idea if the boards were to shut down for a few days so that everyone can cool down and stop being so irritable and snappish.

Larcole (Nicole), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:32 (twenty-one years ago)

What gives you the right to say that?

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck off, elf-boy.

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 25 July 2003 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

I know this is not what is supposed to go on here, and I apologize in advance, but could someone go here and add an i to the beginning of the picture link? Do it if you like, or call me a fucker if you like.

Bryan (Bryan), Friday, 25 July 2003 20:32 (twenty-one years ago)

That's someone else's post, so no. Also, we are trying to really curtail the number of changes we make - they are surprisingly demanding on the database.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 25 July 2003 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Dada, Saturday, 26 July 2003 05:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Could someone delete my *Plonk* post from Why is Religious Education part of the curriculum but not Political Education? ? It makes little sense without Calum's preceding post.

Also, the "All Updated Posts" link off the New Answers screen is missing, which can mean people making an unneccesary search to find threads (eg, this one).

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:14 (twenty-one years ago)

ummmmmmmm, second problem is noted, one of us will have to look into it, it was mentioned elsewhere this afternoon.
Martin, you wanna straighten out that other problem with his post?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Hm, I'm not sure what to do there, Andrew - there are a whole bunch of things reacting to some comment by Calum that has been removed. It does make it hard to make sense of several posts. Not knowing what to do, I will do nothing. Some other moderator may wish to intervene, but these changes really slow up the board a lot, so I'm disinclined to make loads of fiddly changes to lots of posts.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 20:48 (twenty-one years ago)

for some reason, some fucking idiot posted a really disgusting picture in this thread below (in case you were wondering it's not the one of robbie williams naked but it's the one of a spider and its truly revolting.) the guy who posted it is a c***.

Taking Sides: Robbie Williams Vs Coldplay - which one is more brain numbingly, unbearably, complete and utter shite? (21 new answers)

neil, Tuesday, 29 July 2003 21:26 (twenty-one years ago)

the guy who posted it is a c***

If "c***" means "Calz" : watch it, buddy. If it means "cunt", you're mostly right. And the picture is as necessary as the thread it's in.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Tuesday, 29 July 2003 22:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh God, I had to look, didn't I?

Matt (Matt), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not sure why its missing at this very moment, but in the meantime.

will have to do.

Its been hacked into service now Andrew F. Don't play with it too much in the next day or two or it might fall off.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 01:50 (twenty-one years ago)

ok sommermute, i apologise. i over-reacted to the picture because i'm a card-carrying arachnophobe. maybe you could explain why the photo is necessary and what it means? and what is Calz?

neil, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, fair enough, Martin.

Cheers, Mr. Noodles. While I'm on the subject, the link to "Show All Questions" on the New Questions page should point to "&complete=true" instead of "?complete=true", cheers.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Never mind neil, I think Mr Noodles deleted the thread anyway.

Sommermute (Wintermute), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 10:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Can you send me what I asked for? You need to do SHOW CREATE TABLE on each of the tables, and then launch mysql in quiet mode and run SELECT * FROM daylight and copy the result. Then you can carry on breaking things.

grrr, Wednesday, 30 July 2003 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well what do you know, your right Andrew, check back tomorrow or so.
As Im sure we have all noticed by now, Tom answered Graham on the other thread the complaint was raised on.
Sorry Sommermute, I was just feeling little patience for Callum's crap yesterday.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 13:08 (twenty-one years ago)

disturb the pillars of capitalism

I have a problem with the slander being aimed at me by someone calling themselves Spoonered on this thread. I'm being called stuff that is seriously out of order and that genuinelly offends me. Much as I might cause some debates here that heat up I've never labelled anyone a racist or used such contemptable descriptions of people I do not know.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:08 (twenty-one years ago)

"do you need me to point out your 'rape is not a crime' posts elsewhere? or your 'the darkies are ruining british music' "serious" posts?"

I think this should be removed, the guys saying I'm a racist, which is such cock as you know. I think that seeing that you guys remove posts from me, and others, rightfully if they are slanderous - this should be taken off too.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:15 (twenty-one years ago)

you used racist terminology on that thread - it's fair to call you racist.

spoon ered (spoon ered), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

censorship! censorship!

spoon ered (spoon ered), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Get a life loser. I will not be Googled on your sick, fucked up, horrific comments - I was a victim of racism myself as a youngster and I have, grudgingly, spoken a little about myself which I don't use ILE/ ILM for. I will not tolerate your vile and sick comments and I will fucking kick your ass if we ever meet you racist, sick bastard. What a loser you are. Get a life.

Calz (Calz), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:20 (twenty-one years ago)

consider I'm not a straight white male I have no doubt you will want to try to 'kick my ass' if you ever meet me. maybe you can bring some of your jackbooted friends with you you facist twat.

spoon ered (spoon ered), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I deleted what is supposedly Calum's surname (no idea if it is or not or how 'spoon ered' got it) from that thread because that's totally against ILX rules.

Please drop this now.

N. (nickdastoor), Wednesday, 30 July 2003 21:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a problem with the slander being aimed at me

Not for nothing, Calum, but you've spent the better part of a week doing the same to me, and you don't see me crying like a girl. Get over it, learn yr lesson.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 31 July 2003 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

The only protection Moderators will allow you is that of not having your personal details published. If someone wants to hurl racist insults at you or call you racist, Calz, then you'll just have to defend yourself. Sorry, but this can only be taken so far.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 31 July 2003 03:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Q: Is there any way to tweak your individual settings to plonk a specific user?

J (Jay), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

A: Wish I could find the thread but killfiles were declared undesirable by all 12 foot lizards.

For your reading pleasure: ADMIN: Killfiles?

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:19 (twenty-one years ago)

It's funny -- I was the one to originally bring it up, but now I think killfiles are a terrible idea. Go figure.

Larcole (Nicole), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Crap! looks like trackback ain't doing to well.
This Is The Thread Where You KEEP ON SHOUTING FOR THE MODERATOR!

Might also be interesting to read why we didn't do such a thing with the G1erb0t starting a few posts above that one.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Who is "Bryan from Kappa Sig" and why is he credited with 138 new threads in the past 30 days on ILM?

amateurist (amateurist), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Thx for the info Noodles. Not exactly the answer I was looking for, but I will soldier on notwithstanding. And I don't think I agree with the rationales for the "killfile bad" position -- they all seem to assume that posters will cabal up and plonk other people en masse. I think the only reason that ever happened on Usenet was because it's so easy to establish a killfile.

J (Jay), Wednesday, 6 August 2003 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, I'm totally pro-killfile now

well yes, but, it's still a little surprising...

it seems a very simple thing they've done as well, ie just put a body background= tag in, i'm surprised no one's thought of it before.

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 09:32 (twenty-one years ago)

that crossed a line obv

mark s (mark s), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Someone did it on a Butthole Surfers thread, this is much lovelier

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

x-post, dang

it's been done from time to time. there was some awful-looking thread where the background and the post-backgrounds were different images (possibly the hamster faced N. pic) fer ages. Go practice in the HTML playground.

Alan (Alan), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

For more fun in HTML playground, find the thread with no title, I liked that trick. I suppose I should work on fixing that loophole if G never got around to it.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Wednesday, 13 August 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha - the thread with no title is impossible to click on. It could say anything down there.

I have a nasty feeling that if this background trick catches on people could end up abusing it SO much.

This is a strange question, but looking at the ILF statslist, I have been at

60 (1)

for several months running. This despite the fact that I have posted perhaps ten (at most) messages on ILF in the past month, and to my knowledge have not started a new thread there in that time. Is this an error in the stats program?

There are a few threads I know I'm never going to read for one reason or another - is there a function that allows you to ignore a thread, i.e. it doesn't appear in new questions or new answers when you're logged in? Is this a terrible idea?

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 18 August 2003 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

No and yes. We've done this one enough times already.

Ricardo (RickyT), Monday, 18 August 2003 16:07 (twenty-one years ago)

These days!

Ricardo Suave, Monday, 18 August 2003 20:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Please can someone mark the 'fave playmates' thread as unsafe for work? thanks.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 07:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, I don't know how to link threads.

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I changed the offending photo to a link, maybe people will get the idea not to directly post that kind of picture. Will revisit.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

thanx!

Pinkpanther (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The guy who posted the "Who sucks the most, France or Sweden?" thread may be a potential troll. Keep an eye on him.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry I missed it, RickyT. After all, I only post here to annoy you. Sheesh.

Mark C (Mark C), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 12:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Could someone delete my posts here, please? They were stupid and pointless and could very well have caused damage to Gareth's thread.

Bryan (Bryan), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

You're going to have to get someone besides me to do that, Bry-Bry.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

That was hilarious!

Mr. Diamond (diamond), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I changed the offending photo to a link, maybe people will get the idea not to directly post that kind of picture. Will revisit.

A bit much, considering the question, non?

ModJ, Tuesday, 19 August 2003 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

There is no reason for deleting that! (Also the thought crossed my mind too.)

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 19 August 2003 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

A bit much, considering the question, non?
Well, y'know, you can still click through to the picture, but I won't be offended it anyone wants to change it back and change the subject line. Whatever works best for everyone.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 20 August 2003 03:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Could someone delete the duplicate "I hate Bright Eyes" threads on ILM? I'm no fan of Conor Oberst, but it just seems redundant and a waste of space.

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 25 August 2003 06:49 (twenty-one years ago)

he'd be all "the problem here isn't, at least not completely, trife at the spinning wheel (i suspect we're used to trifean rhetoric by now)- it's that we got at least three (ideally) distinct arguments, set up in a way such that involvement in one implicates you in the rest. so if you think this isn't the ideal URL in which to be arguing these issues, you become inseparable from the person saying that race is no longer an issue in current american society" but he'd put it better, and be right.

mitch lastnamewithheld (mitchlnw), Monday, 25 August 2003 07:07 (twenty-one years ago)

he'd totally get my vote for class president

cinniblount (James Blount), Monday, 25 August 2003 07:15 (twenty-one years ago)

He's Finnish!

I was sad to find this out. "Kalevala" in his name is the Finnish national epic (like the Edda poems in Norway) which some of these stupid fascists use as an "inspiration" (there's nothing about racial purity there, but they use it to emphasize their "Finnishness"). Luckily, the extreme right-wingers in Finland are a pathetic bunch, we haven't had a noteworthy far right since the 1930's. I hope it stays that way.

Could you give a link to the message itself and we can get it faster. This may require clicking on the show all details button to see the message link.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 17:33 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, someone added the tag. i guess more "swimming pool" spoilers are not in my future.

Unless Andrew or Martin can get it going prior, I'll get my hammer out on Saturday and fix Matt up for you.
Lynskey if your still about can you email the IP to one of the email groups we use for this sorta thing?

RJG that is sorted

j-lu I think it is better to demolish that myth publicly (= everyone who reads is exposed to the truth abt it) than just delete it (= no one can read it who didn't already)

Done. I'll try looking into the reason why it wasn't working since Im enjoying Chelski struggling.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 30 August 2003 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, there was some Geir-started thread about songs with certain words in the title that just disappeared. What's that about?

hstencil, Saturday, 30 August 2003 14:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I mean just 'cause the guy is a doof, why delete the thread?

hstencil, Saturday, 30 August 2003 14:47 (twenty-one years ago)

okay so I don't have time to get mired in controversy, I've got to get going, but can whomever deleted that thread, at some point, post their rationale for doing so? It seems really arbitrary and - wait for it - creepy.

hstencil, Saturday, 30 August 2003 14:53 (twenty-one years ago)

That was me, meant to delete the image redirect from our eager grunge fan, ended up deleting Geir thread while watching Amaroso going bannanas.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Saturday, 30 August 2003 14:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil, if you wish to find out who did what, check the admin log. It can be found from the log page which has a link at the bottom right of most pages here.

i just deleted a thread started anonymously quoting someone else anonymously (long ago) attacking people for discussing a non-anonymous actual real now-occasional poster who i'm not going to name bcz the thread — even though it had her name IN THE TITLE — was nothing to do with her

get a fucking grip people

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 31 August 2003 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

ie make the point — if there actually was one — w/o merely incidentally and thoughtlessly trashing people who actually post here but are not in any way involved in any discussions you are currently having

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 31 August 2003 21:12 (twenty-one years ago)

fair enough mark, i didnt mean to call any one person out, you know? just to say i think misandry's considered AOK by a few too many people around here.

hstencil, Sunday, 31 August 2003 21:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ok fair enough zxcvbnm, but ask the question another way plz: i don't see why that poster should have to read all that stuff all over again when it wz really nothing to do with her, or anything she'd done, in the first place

mark s (mark s), Sunday, 31 August 2003 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)
