For me it's this one:

Boredoms "Vision Creation Newsun" is basically a Phish jam

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:20 (twenty years ago)

Don't, it's not worth it.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:21 (twenty years ago)

I've been saving that one up.

I avoided opening the Big Brother thread for six days and unsurprisingly have got into a big, enjoyable, work-annihilating argument already.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Used to be the "Lost" thread but now I can't help cautiously reading up to wherever I'm up to in NZ (just had the Locke's dad/hatch/Boone gets fucked up episode)

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:24 (twenty years ago)

Tom, thanks for coming to this thread. While you're here, can I ask you something: Can you delete ILX now, please?

(You can put it all back later. After say a week or so)

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:27 (twenty years ago)

i only open about 20% of threads. the ones that look like they may interest me.

g-kit (g-kit), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:30 (twenty years ago)

Is Anyone Anticipating The New TV Show LOST? ....

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Seems like somebody excelsiored from my Unopened Thread, perhaps to rain on my parade.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Identify An ILX0r With Whom You Have A Weird Set Of Things In Common
and
Your least favorite ILXor - no circle jerkin' plz

Thread I never should have opened:
Big Brother (UK 2005) - Who are these painful showoffs? : thread 1

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:50 (twenty years ago)

"Identify An ILX0r With Whom You Have A Weird Set Of Things In Common" because I know no one will have anything in common with me. Or more likely have never heard of me.

Also,
"Hey! Network Admininstrator Motherfucking Prick! This is the NSFW thread where I fuck your cunt and then taunt you some more. - (a thread about badminton)"

diedre mousedropping and a quarter (Dave225), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I kept up with Sex, 'with someone you're not attracted to at all, or when you wish you weren't there to start with..' for a good 275 or so posts, but now I just can't deal.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

the Big Brother thread is growing at an alarming rate and I just can't follow it anymore

Ste (Fuzzy), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Aw, I thought everyone would love to jump in and fite!

So far, the thread's been a good discussion, besides myself and others being assholes, which is to be expected. Some genuine music criticism has been offered (and I'm not talking about me, my criticism is totally disingenuous!)

Unfortunate Prankster (Unfortunate Prankster), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:55 (twenty years ago)

What has happened in the not-attracted-to thread to make it top 300 posts?

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:57 (twenty years ago)

hairy nips

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

(he's not joking)

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Where to begin. Basically, hairy nipples were invoked and the discussion has moved to wider questions of philosophy, stereotyping and self-determination.

Xpost!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Also, it will shortly explode because Tuomas has advocated the abolition of all professional sports.

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

Right. Some places even an administrator fears to tread.

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

I think the discussion on that thread (about body image, beauty norms, pressures on women, feminism, etc.) has been pretty interesting. I just wish the ILE women would take a more active part in it.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:03 (twenty years ago)

you're only adding to their pressures

RJG (RJG), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Big Brother (UK 2005) - Who are these painful showoffs? : thread 1

Because this is the first year that I won't see any BB at all hurrah, and I'm worried the thread will make me start compulsively watching the damn thing after all via the internet. Or at least make me *feel* like I've watched it.

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Tuomas has advocated the abolition of all professional sports.

Considering that Tuomas has rarely been seen without a regiment of Scandanavian amazon beauties, I think it's kinda rich, his telling us to 'loosen our beauty standards and all. ;)

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Let them start an argument next time Tuomas

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:05 (twenty years ago)

Actually they did.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

I kind of feel I've read 100 threads on that sort of thing to be honest. Also the BB thread is that except in a non-abstract context!

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:06 (twenty years ago)

Actually they did.

http://www.uky.edu/Projects/Chemcomics/assets/images/argh.GIF

Hmm, I need some tea.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:07 (twenty years ago)

They did? They didn't seem as committed to it as you, if so.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:09 (twenty years ago)

Huh? I just referring to the fact that it was Di and Gem who started the discussion, I just continued on that.

(x-post)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

He's right.

M. White (Miguelito), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:11 (twenty years ago)

Finally, someone admits it!

Unfortunate Prankster (Unfortunate Prankster), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:18 (twenty years ago)

Big Brother fourthed, because last year I did do what Archel fears to do.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:19 (twenty years ago)

This thread. Honest.

caitlin (caitlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:22 (twenty years ago)

ken c (ken c), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:25 (twenty years ago)

I can't open the "Lost" thread, though I do like that the thread title ends with an ambiguous "OM".

I always open the "Which ILXor..." threads out of morbid curiosity about how long it will be before it all kicks off between the meta lovers and haters.

The "sex with someone you're not attracted to" thread is ilx derailment at its best - from "hairy nips, urgh!" through "the tyranny of fashion" to "BAN BASKETBALL NOW" with some classic posts in between.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:37 (twenty years ago)

I have nothing against TITTWIS but I do wish their latest one didn't keep making me think "Oh good, a Gwen Stefani thread!"

Tom (Groke), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:38 (twenty years ago)

Same here, except it's "Oh shit, a Gwen Stefani thread!"

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

(yes, I'm annoyed by threads I don't read. It's my schtick)

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:46 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad yr back Andrew

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

The best thing about the "Sex with.." derailment is that it came from an offhand tschh-boom remark from hstencil.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:47 (twenty years ago)

That's the only thing about it

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

So you blame Hstencil?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:02 (twenty years ago)

I don't really blame, it's just boring and at MOST a lot of preaching to converted crap.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

On the other hand, I blame hstencil

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:06 (twenty years ago)

Oh, and this one: Having penetrative sex during your/your partner's period: classic or dud

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 2 June 2005 16:12 (twenty years ago)

The playful sparring on this classic thread turned ugly a while back so that even with my settings properly adjusted to avoid endless threadloading I still don't wanna go there:
Dave Matthews Band : Name Your Reasons Why They Are So Bad & Hated.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:36 (twenty years ago)

What the hell are those TITTWIS thread about?!

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Jordan, I didn't read them for a while, either, but they're basically just like the Chicago thread but with wider participation. (Many of the same participants, though! -- like N/A, Sarah, Kenan, Jocelyn.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:45 (twenty years ago)

Basically, it's a thread about nothing:

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:50 (twenty years ago)

man if i had a nickel for every time someone asked that.

oops (Oops), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:51 (twenty years ago)

Seriously. We've had the TITTWIS debate before, people feeling like it's a secret club or whatever. Um, it's not. It's a bunch of us whining mofos getting together for a giant circle jerk. The more the merrier. And no one's nipps are an issue. Ever.

Jordan (Jordan), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

DVDA or Scheisse

? And here I thought I was a porn connoisseur.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

I haven't been to a TITTWIS thread since someone tried to pull one of those *offers Pleasant Plains a drink!* things.

Pleasant Plains /// (Pleasant Plains ///), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

That was probably me. It's because of stuff like that that I've tried to stay away from hre over the past year.

When I was involved in a little fite with Aaron Z and the Questionizer, Aimless told us: c'mon guys there is a thread for this kind of thing. When I clicked on the link I was at TITTWIS.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, okay, we get it.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:51 (twenty years ago)

We don't fite though.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, luna, I wasn't picking on TITTWIS, I was just having a flashback to a thread I never want to open again.

Ken L (Ken L), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:54 (twenty years ago)

Nah it's cool - it's a recurring theme.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 2 June 2005 20:55 (twenty years ago)

W i l l (common_person), Thursday, 2 June 2005 21:31 (twenty years ago)

I'm not trying to start trouble but is there any overlap or rivalry between the TITTWIS crowd and the Mongrel hordes?

Ken L (Ken L), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

Rivalry? Why would there be rivalry?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:22 (twenty years ago)

On another note can I just ask that people be careful what they list - this thread is not asking about threads you simply ignore or arent interested in, it says threads you CANT BRING YOURSELF to open, which implies you're scared of/wary of/disgusted by the content, ya?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Or well, avoiding spoilers etc.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

Anyway, the monrgrels thread is for the most part, very australian discussion, but we get other visitors regularly like Tad, Ned and so on. We do get into really interesting discussions from time to time too - me and Moley had a great one on the trickster archetype in dreams, Jungian theory and such. We just talk about whatever - current australian events and tv, work, life, etc.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:41 (twenty years ago)

I mean just looking at the title I had no interest in opening the Mongrels thing and then I learned it wasn't for me and I wouldn't understand it anyway and that made me feel slightly more interested but still not enough to open it. The NBA thread is teh fab though, yer crazy.

tremendoid (tremendoid), Friday, 3 June 2005 03:44 (twenty years ago)

I remain decidedly puzzled by those people who can't figure out that the TITTWIS threads are basically just threads where people are free to pop in and talk about what their lives are like at the current moment, followed by additional posts about the way people feel. If ILX didn't have a TITTWIS, you would see so many more new threads that there would be one hell of a gripefest amongst the majority of individuals here, and many of these new threads would essentially be nothing but devolutions of geography-based chat threads that would alienate those of us who are geographically disadvantaged.

Having said that, I never click on threads that are, at the surface, about things I would have absolutely no idea about based on specific geographic factors that relegate those threads to only those people who live in a certain part of the U.S./the world. These include threads about British pop culture (unless the thread title sounds incredibly interesting), any of the Chicago threads, most of the mongrel/sheepfuxor threads (the threads I've visited were threads I was sorta invited to), any threads relating to life in NYC, etc., etc., etc. Which adds up to quite a lot of threads. Which explains why I don't seem to interact all that much over here.

The Kind and Benevolent Oracle of Dee (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 3 June 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

(I love the NBA threads, BTW.)

The Kind and Benevolent Oracle of Dee (Dee the Lurker), Friday, 3 June 2005 04:13 (twenty years ago)

I don't mind the NBA threads! I'm sure they're very interesting! But I just don't follow the NBA, or the NFL, or Premiership soccer, or any other sport besides baseball (which has its own board), so I just don't think reading those threads would be much fun. Similarly, I've never seen Lost -- even though I've heard it's great, I'm just not much of a TV guy -- so it seems kinda pointless. Nothing against Scott or anything!

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 3 June 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

Transfer Speculation Thread

For a long time I thought these threads were about people speculating about their possible work transferrals ("I have to move to Chicago!"), and then a couple of days ago I finally clicked on one and found out it was about FOOTBALL! Well, that didn't make it any more interesting to me.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Friday, 3 June 2005 07:53 (twenty years ago)

For me, it's many of the ever-increasing proportion of threads that are there for people to sneer at others. They are what are making me feel less and less at home on ILE.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 3 June 2005 11:27 (twenty years ago)

Right now I am desperately avoiding the Dr. Who threads until I have caught up on the episodes that I missed due to un-geek-like Being In A Band And Having A Life At The Weekends activity.

Other than that, well... sometimes threads surprise me. More often threads surprise me in a negative way when the title makes it look REALLY COOL and it turns out just to be about football. :-(

The Square Root Of Negative Two (kate), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:10 (twenty years ago)

For a long time I thought these threads were about people speculating about their possible work transferrals

Ha, that's what I thought these threads were about until I read your post, Tuomas.

Jordan (Jordan), Friday, 3 June 2005 12:21 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes, like today, there's not a single thread title on 'new answers' that grabs me, but you know there's still gold in them thar hills, and then it's just a matter if you feel like sussing it out.

Aaron A., Friday, 3 June 2005 13:52 (twenty years ago)

I've decided that I definitely have to stop opening the "Explain this comic to me" thread, because all those Perry Bible Fellowships strips are just really really upsetting and depressing for me at the moment.

caitlin (caitlin), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 06:54 (twenty years ago)

"Will Hamas ever be our friends?" I opened it once, vented, and have no desire to revisit it.

mike a, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 11:16 (twenty years ago)

I can't open the BB threads anymore because, like the show itself, I feel the coverage of it on our threads has gone downhill. I don't really need to see people complaining about the fact that someone is fat or is ugly or is a munter. So I've stopped watching the show and reading the threads and now I feel less annoyed.

In fact, being a fat munter makes me less likely to want to open any threads about people being fat. Or munters.

I toy with the idea of opening the Dr. Who spoilers thread, but I don't want it spoiled. And it was very hard for me to stay away from the Lost thread even when I was a week behind.

Well, that didn't make it any more interesting to me.
What a great line. I imagine you folding your arms and throwing your pen down while saying this.

Transfer Speculation Thread
